Finding Resolution

Hello,
How do I know for sure what my resolution is on a jpeg image? In Microsoft Photo Editor is says it's 300 dpi. In Photoshop, when I look under Image/Image Size it says it's 180 dpi in PS Elements, and 72 dpi in PS CS3. What is the right way to find out?
Thanks

Different programs may assign a default ppi if none is defined in the file.
...although I only knew PS to assign 72 ppi if no resolution data was present. I don't see why Elements would choose 180 or MS Photo Editor would choose 300.
Try assigning a 300 ppi resolution in PS and see if the other two apps fall in line with 300 ppi as well. Do not use 'Save for Web' as this strips out resolution data.

  • AppleTV struggles to find resolution at start up

    Hi Folks,
I love my AppleTV but it has annoyed me for the last time. When ever I turn the thing on, it blinks and blinks and acts like it is struggling to set the resolution. Sometimes it blinks around forever, never actually getting to a usable state. Usually it blinks around for 2-5 minutes then comes on normally.
I can't really describe what it is doing... because I am not that familiar with how the AppleTV and HD tv work. From my understanding of computers, it looks like a computer trying to set a resolution on a monitor that the monitor doesn't like. More specifically, it looks like it is trying to set a refresh rate that is incompatible. You don't see this much anymore with flat panel computer monitor, but you used to see it on old Glass Tubes.
My PlayStation 3 has no problems what so ever using the TV at 1080p @ 60hz, the AppleTV only has options for 1080i @ 50hz. I don't know the difference between the i and p in the 1080 setting.
I am using the Belkin HDMI cable that the Apple Store sold me with the AppleTV unit. I have tried switching the HDMI ports on the TV, between the PS3 and the AppleTV. Regardless of the port, the PS3 works fine, the AppleTV blinks. I have also tries using the PS3 HDMI cable on the AppleTV and that makes no difference either.
I am left to speculate that it is some setting on the AppleTV that the TV itself doesn't like. Perhaps the i in 1080i vs 1080p, or maybe the 50 vs 60 hz. Not sure.
I filmed the blinking, and in my little film you can see that the PS3 is working just fine (if you can read the settings on the PS3 it says 1080p) and when I switch to the AppleTV it takes almost 5 minutes of blinking before the AppleTV corrects itself and comes "on."
Here is the URL to my video:
    http://gallery.me.com/lintila#100075

HDMI is far from perfect with all devices.
Yes, most tend to work, but some struggle or don't.
AppleTV certainly doesn't like being used through HDMI splitters/AV amps/switches - some work perfectly, other fail completely.
HDMI leads should just work on the face of it, but all leads can have dodgy connections and some may be poor quality but neitehr Sony or Belkin should be poor quality.
My understanding that HDMI devices negotiate connections between themselves, a bit like a computer establishing a link with another network device. The negotiation process involves the display telling the video device about available display modes etc, and the two thrash out what can and can't be displayed and reach the best compromise. Occasionally the process fails.
AppleTV can certainly output 1080p display, but it is set dependent - some of mine can reach 1080i, some 1080p.
It sounds as though the negotiation is giving Appletv the whole set o foptions the PS3 is finding - some TVs have firmware niggles that can cause problems. It's always hard to know in these cases if it's the TV or AppleTV at fault.
Can you test on a friend's TV set?
To be honest, for movies AppleTV can only playback 720p video anyway, which it upscales to 1080i or p if display is set to that. You might not notice much difference bewteen 720p option and 1080i/p anyway.
The 50Hz/60Hz might theoretically make a difference but in practice I don't see much difference whichever I choose.
If the AppleTV is always on and the problem happens when switching inputs back to AppleTV, i do see that from time to time, and suspect that that input is re-negotiating communication when re-selected.

  • Where can I find Resolution Benchmarking.vi used in Tutorial 3778?

Where can I go to download the Resolution Benchmarking.vi program used in Tutorial # 3778 "Performing High-Accuracy Temperature Measurements Using a NI Digital Multimeter and Switch"?
    Thank you,
    Kevin Hanson

    Hi Kevin,
We don't have that particular example posted. I'm checking to see if we made that example public but your best bet for now is to work off of the included pitcures. The VI's used are pretty straightforward - it's really just switching to ch0, reading, switching to the cjcChannel, reading and then scaling the voltage based on the Thermocouple.  Another VI that has very similar functionality (it uses scanning instead of single connections) would be the niSwitch Thermocouple Measurements.vi in example finder.

  • How to find resolution of images in a PDF?

I have Acrobat Pro 8, and was wondering if there was a way to find out what the resolution of the embedded images are?
Seems like a simple thing but I for the life of me cannot find it.
Thank you very much for any information regarding this!
    - MIke

Use the Preflight tool. Advanced > Print Production > Preflight. Click the triangle beside PDF Analysis to open preflight profiles which check for certain conditions. Pick one of those like "List images below 300 ppi." You can also duplicate one of the profiles and edit it to choose whatever target resolution you want to check for.

  • Adjust export image resolution in Keynote4

    Hi folks,
Above image is captured on my desktop, in left, that is keynote screen, and right side is export jpeg image(High quality option) from the keynote. And the captured image seems much bad and has not enough rolution to me (image size is 1024x768 for a page).
Still I can`t find resolution adjust option where is. Does anyone know this?
My Keynote version is 6.5.2. Thanks.

(image size is 1024x768 for a page)
    The higher the pixel count, the higher the resolution;
    1024 is low quality
as a comparison, my Canon 5D III creates 5760x3840 images
therefore change the pixel size: 3000x2000 or 2000x1300
test and see what works for you
change the pixel setting in:     Inspector > Document > Document > Slide Size > Custom
When exporting; use TIFF filetype for the best quality export

  • Post Interesting Things You Find That Weren't Big News

    1. You can take a screenshot by holding the home button and pressing the top power button. Goes to Photos.
    2. When you type in a password, you can now see the last character typed.

Good posts a lot of information I needed or to know, or more so wish I'd known prior to purchasing the 6280. Came across this post while trying to find resolutions to a number of the 'problems' with this model that you've listed, or for accuracy's sake functional and features missing from this phone or poorly develop, in comparison to other models.
Fact: One 'bug' that hasn't been raised in these posts is the management of a contact thumbnail's through PC Suite does work. Adding a thumbanil on the PC doesn't appear on the phone, and adding a thumbnail on the phone doesn't appear on the PC.
Oppinion: The lack of management/handling of Company name & Birthday were the killer for me!
Fact: Also I've only had the phone about 2 days now and I've had it just stop and mysteriously restart on me about 4 times. Admittly I've been using it a lot but not doing anything out of the ordinary to expect that.
Oppinion: On the plus side the screens resolution great, and the photos very good for a phone. Neat little cropping tool, but nothing to rotate. Although the camera doesn't have a protector the case can be replace fixing and scratches! The phone is generally pretty responsive, boots and shuts down very quickly too.
Oppinion: I'm probably being over critical here but the video call's camera at half arms length barely shows your whole face, at full arms length it's 'closer' to what you'd see on a passport. Although at this distance viewing the person your calling is more difficult. The phone has a good digital zoom in-out feature during a video call. But given the small portion of you shown under normal circumstances I don't imagine this would get used often. Admittly it was entertaining to keep the phone where it was and zoom in on my eye, but it's entertainment value will wear off (or maybe i could call me iridologist).

  • Problem-Report generation using shell script

    Hi
We have the Production database and the Reporting database (copy of Production database),
both on Oracle 9.2.0.5 and Solaris 5.8. There is a package inside the Oracle database, which extracts some data from inside the
database, and would generate a report. A shell script has been created in Solaris which would
send in the parameters and call the pakage to generate the report. The parameters it is sending is
the name of report to be generated, and the location where it is to be generated, both hard-coded into
the script. The script is scheduled to run through crontab.
The problem we are facing is that, if we run the script for Reporting database, it successfully
generates the report. But if we use that script for Production database, it gives the error
"Invalid directory Path". I have tried using various other directory paths, even '/tmp'
and '/', but it still gives the same error when executed for Production dataabse.
Could somebody provide any ideas what might be going wrong.
The reasons it is to be executed on Prod db and not the Reporting database are unavoidable.
It anyway runs in off business hours and takes about 10secs to execute.
Please do let me know if there is any other info that I missed to provide here.
    Thanks in advance...

I will be just guessing because you didn't provide contents of script and package.
The "Invalid directory path" as you said could be ORA-29280 due non existent directory.
Try execute (as sys or system) select * from dba_directories; (or select * from all_directories; as user which the script is login to) on both databases and compare the results. If there is missing your important directory then create it using create directory <dirname>; (from sqlplus and don't forget to grant rights for user).
This error could come from shell script. In that case you should find resolution yourself because you didn't provide script source.

  • Macbook 13" 2009 shutting down when moved randomly and when finally able to turn back on time and date needs to be reset.. Help?

2 times in the last week when i have picked up my macbook to place beside me it has shut down, and takes a little while to turn back on, when it does turn on again the date and time needs to be reset and wifi password  needs to be re-entered as well..
I have no idea what is going on but i dont like it... any help would be great !!

That battery is relatively healthy, say relatively due to the high cycle count, the number of full charge cycles it has had.  The lower capacity simply reflects the high number of charge cycles and is not an issue, only a measure of how long the MacBook will work when running on battery power.  The voltage is right where it should be for a MacBook, in the range of 11.5 to 12.5 volts...12.3 volts is a strong battery.
Now to the auto-shutdown for lack of a better term - that sounds a lot like something loose inside the MacBook that when jarred shorts/shutsdown the sytem with a loss of basic information.  You could try things like an SMC reseet or PRAM reset but I seriously doubt they would have any affect.  Best option would be a visit to an Apple store genius bar to have the techs run some diagnostics to see if they can identify something going wrong inside.
Hope this helps and you can find resolution...auto shutdowns of this type are not really good for the system.

  • Things you need to know about 6280

Hi everybody, I used to have a 6680 and I say this with regret. Why? I gave it to my girlfriend as a gift. Now that was a good sturdy functional phone. Now I bought a 6280 from Vodafone. I wanted a N70 but the Vodafone representative recommended this one. I chose to go with the 6280 because the N70 looked a little bit too fragile. She also said there are no significant differences. Well, she couldn’t be more wrong. Let me tell you why. The first thing I should mention is that 6280 is not a symbian phone! This, for who knows what it means, it is a lot. I wasn’t aware. You cannot switch between applications for one. So now since I bought it, I gave it a go, see what it is all about. Nice graphics, big screen, no problems (I read here somebody had some). The first annoying thing that hit me is the back light. Goes out in an instant. Or 10 seconds they say. Depends on how you measure time. The problem is you cannot adjust that. Neither the contrast. Nor the luminosity. Some people find these features useful. Nokia seems doesn’t. Some people said on this forum that the sliding front does not have a good grip. Mine seem to do. Navigating through folders is somewhat frustrating but this is subjective. Another thing you should know is that you cannot set the memory card as the default storage space and the phone memory is small. Just about 5MB free with … nothing on it. But I guess you can get around that and be happy with what you have. Now for the real problems. One big issue for me was synchronizing with Outlook. I got it working in the first try. No problems there. But when checking the contact list on the phone … well, disappointment. The 6280 does not record company name, job title and birthday. This is a huge problem for somebody well organized like me. Birthdates are saved in calendar but they do not show up in the contact details. Try finding a birthday through the entire calendar! Second thing that got me down is that the contact phones have no area codes. This you might say “well, it’s ok”. Not if you modify something and then you get your contact updated in Outlook with no area codes. Again BIG problem. My second frustration was with the email accounts. It was hell to figure out how to configure and then I realized. If you have multiple email accounts … you should get another phone. 6680 is good. I assume any symbian enabled phone will do. Not this one. You cannot have all the emails grouped or in separate folders at least as it is on s60 phones. No. here you have to go to “Menu – Settings – Configuration – Personal Config Settings – select other email account and activate it”. Then you go back and go into the email folder. Good job Nokia! I think they could have found a worst sequence to do it. Also, get this, I assume (99% I know) that the emails get stored in the phone memory. You have no way of moving to memory card and no way of reading office or pdf files. Note that on symbian there are applications to do it. As for the battery, I don’t know yet. It did not last one day anyway but I gave it a good run and I know it will improve after several recharges. The good things I know about this phone is that the video has a good quality. I cannot say for pictures because I do have a professional digital SLR camera and I cannot compare without being mean. It is still a phone. The radio is average. Good enough I say. Small note to end this. The phone should have predictive text input. Should, because it is not in the menu. A problem that a firmware update should resolve. I don’t know to what version since I might have the last one. It is: v 03.60 10-02-06. I would buy another model. If you are like me, pay attention to all I had to say. Cheers!

Yes, you would need to check with BASIS team how they have created an alternate source system (for debugging) & prepare a RFC b/n these systems. Can you just check the settings in the source system and BI source system...and check the source system for the same BI system. Right click > Check and then do a restore or take the help of basis to fix it. What I think is a possible solution is : RSA1 > Source system > Search System > Right Click > Activate

  • Purchased song to create ringtone that after purchase, was not an option!

I purchased a song on iTunes specifically to create a ringtone, but when I tried to do this, it said "this song can no longer be made into a ringtone". Can they not tell you this before you purchase the song?? When I went back to the iTune store to find resolution, it said you had to click on view options to see a "bell" next to the song indicating it can be made into a ringtone. The "view options" was not "highlighted" for me to choose this option!
I bought 2 songs that can not be made into ringtones......is there another option??

Yes. You must install anti virus software in Windows. Microsoft has a free good anti virus program for download. It is Security Essentials and is available on the microsoft site.

  • Cups issues worsen after update

I have long-standing issues with cups on arch. It has never quite worked right. However, it usually just won't print, prints very slowly or prints rubbish.
Today, it seemed to freeze the entire system. The only way to restart was to hit the power button. (Couldn't switch to another tty, kill X, anything.)
Now this *might* not be cups related but my system freezes had entirely cleared up with recent kernels and cups, but not the kernel, was updated recently. (I realise this shouldn't really freak out the entire system but even so...)

So I'm not sure why it thinks it can't find any support for the printer?
Does anybody have any suggestions? Even when it isn't apparently freezing the system, printing is a bit of a nightmare. cups almost always worked flawlessly for me under os x and I just can't believe it isn't possible to get it working smoothly under linux. I can't help thinking that something must be staring me in the face.
    Setup details:
I primarily print to a number of hp printers connected via usb. I also use a dell over the lan but much less often.
With my main printer (an hp 1320), I have two configurations set up. One uses the recommended hp driver; one the gutenprint driver. The other hps I use are 3000 series hps.
All of them seem to have problems spooling to the printer. The printer will still be looking for data when cups thinks everything is done. (At least, as best I can tell.) So I end up with missing pages, half pages, stuck pages, blank pages... If printing becomes problematic and I cancel one print job, I can't start the others without disconnecting the printer. Usually, I have to restart the printer as well. Queueing print jobs is almost a waste of time. I need to babysit every page to make sure it isn't skipping anything. If I send more jobs to the printer, I end up having to cancel them to get the printer unstuck.
What I don't get is that this is the same printing system I used on os x, right? It is just cups? So how can it work so well in one case and be so problematic on another os? (I realise this may sound moany but it is actually intended as a real question: maybe if I could understand the different ways it works on the two different oses, I could start to guess what might be going wrong with my linux setup.)

    @AndyRTR,
I didn't have time to investigate this further on Saturday but I wanted to provide stuff from the debugging output. So I'd deleted the standard/postscript non-working printer from CUPS. Reinstalling, options for local printers are:
HP LaserJet 1320 series (HP LaserJet 1320 series)
HP LaserJet 1320 series USB 00CNM1J04324 HPLIP (HP LaserJet 1320 series)
    CUPS-PDF (Virtual PDF Printer)
    HP Fax (HPLIP)
I pick the second of these though I've also tried the first. On the "Add Printer" page, I set the name to "HP1320" and the description and location as I wish. The connection is given as
    hp:/usb/hp_LaserJet_1320_series?serial=00CNM1J04324.
I leave the option to share the printer unchecked. (I don't want everybody on the network printing to my office printer!) This gets me:
    Name: HP1320
Description: HP LaserJet 1320 series (HPLIP)
    Location: Humanities 1.40
    Connection: hp:/usb/hp_LaserJet_1320_series?serial=00CNM1J04324
Sharing: Do Not Share This Printer
    Make: HP
followed by a long list of drivers. I pick the first of 5 identically named options, "HP LaserJet 1320 series Postscript (recommended)" (followed by a long list of language/locale two letter codes starting with "en").
I try querying the printer for default options but it doesn't have any effect though it claims the job completed. I set them manually to get this set up:
Description: HP LaserJet 1320 series (HPLIP)
    Location: Humanities 1.40
Driver: HP LaserJet 1320 series Postscript (recommended) (grayscale, 2-sided printing)
    Connection: hp:/usb/hp_LaserJet_1320_series?serial=00CNM1J04324
    Defaults: job-sheets=none, none media=iso_a4_210x297mm sides=two-sided-long-edge
I tell it to print a test page and I get the following *two* jobs appearing in the list:
HP1320-96 Unknown Withheld 1k Unknown stopped "/usr/lib/cups/filter/commandtops failed"
HP1320-97 Unknown Withheld 1k Unknown processing since Dydd Llun 18 mis Mehefin 2012 18:25:52 BST
I guess the first is the querying for default options (even though it said it had completed).
I'm not sure what from the log might be interesting so let me know if I've included the wrong bits:

  • DSL service problem and lack of customer service

It is a sad day that I find myself on a Verizon Forum trying to find resolution.
About 7 days ago my DSL service dropped of to the point it felt like 1995 with dial up.
So I called Verizon , goth through the prompts and ended up talking to someone in a call center
that must have been 1/2 way around the world.  Unplug the modem, plug it back in , yeah I've done
that 100 times.  No luck.  So they send me a new modem with promises I will be back up or near 3mbps.
Fortunately I received a call that evening from what appeared to be a technician here in Southern California,
she clicked around and said my incoming line was at 100% capacity and she then moved my "D-Slam"?
over and instantly I had 2.7 mbps.  Magic happened.  The new modem showed up the next day (Feb 21)
I got it going on Saturday (Feb 22) and I was cooking along at 2.8 mbps.
Then the wheels fell off on Sunday.
    .35 kbps
Monday (Feb 26) 1 1/2 hour call with a customer service rep. Worthless....
He said a Verizon tech would come to my house today,Tuesday (Feb 25)
    that was a Lie
I called back today, Tuesday Feb 25th, again spoke with someone 1/2 way around the world asking me to unplug
    my modem again.  Good Grief.......
The I am given a telephone number for the Tech Support Center. Yeah !!
45 minute hold, and I get dropped, nice....
    call back
    60 minute hold, dropped again.
I get it Verizon, you don't care, not a single one of your people will take ownership and correct this.
I just want what I pay for each and every month, on time.  You need to provide exactly what you take my money for.

Step one: Visit http://www.giganews.com/line_info.html and post up the Traceroute the page shows, if you wish. Be aware that your non-bogan public IP Address will show up.  It might shown up as the final hop (bottom-most line of the trace)  might contain a hop with your IP address in it. Either remove that line or show only the first two octets. What I'm looking for is a line that mentions "ERX" in it's name towards the end. If for some reason the trace does not complete (two lines full of Stars), keep the trace route intact.
For example this what I saw when I was using Verizon
    news.giganews.com
traceroute to 71.242.*.* (71.242.*.*), 30 hops max, 60 byte packets
        1 gw1-g-vlan201.dca.giganews.com (216.196.98.4) 13 ms 13 ms 13 ms
        2 ash-bb1-link.telia.net (213.248.70.241) 39 ms 7 ms 7 ms
        3 TenGigE0-2-0-0.GW1.IAD8.ALTER.NET (63.125.125.41) 4 ms 4 ms GigabitEthernet2-0-0.GW8.IAD8.ALTER.NET (63.65.76.189) 4 ms
        4 so-7-1-0-0.PHIL-CORE-RTR1.verizon-gni.net (130.81.20.137) 6 ms 6 ms 6 ms
        5 P3-0-0.PHIL-DSL-RTR11.verizon-gni.net (130.81.13.170) 6 ms 6 ms 6 ms
        6 static-71-242-*-*.phlapa.east.verizon.net (71.242.*.*) 32 ms 32 ms 33 ms
Step two: Can you provide the Transceiver Statistics from your modem?
#3 If you don't know how to get that info:
    a) What is the brand and model of your modem?
    b) If you have a RJ-45 WAN port router connected to it: What is the brand and model of the RJ-45 WAN port router?
#4 If you have a RJ-45 WAN port router connected to the modem, even if you know how to get the Transceiver Statistics from the modem: What is the brand and model of the RJ-45 WAN port router?
