Fios ActionTec

Ok, so I looked around before posting this regarding my crappy actiontec router and the airport extreme base station (AEBS). I have followed the instructions of placing the AEBS in bridge mode and allowing the actiontec router to take care of the ip's etc. My only issue is of course speed. When using my old cheap router, a linksys WRT54G, I would see speeds around 15-16mbs. With the AEBS on the other hand, I am only seeing about 5-6mbs. I have checked channels of local networks, and placed the AEBS in channel 11 as it is the furthest from other networks. (Most of them are on channel 6) I think the problem lies in the actiontec being the one in charge of distributing IP's. That is the only difference I can see. Is there a way to have the AEBS distribute IP's and have the actiontec play dumb again? Anyone have any suggestions? Anyone have any experience with fios, actiontec, and an AEBS? Thanks for all the help in advance.

Login to your router.  Then, click here:

Then, set "IGMP Proxy" to disabled.
Yes, this is a hidden page on the latest firmware.
Enjoy!

  • FiOS, Actiontec, MBP, and 10.5.5 wireless problems

I've posted a couple of threads, prior to realizing that the problem I'm having is likely an interaction between my MBP and the FiOS actiontec blocking NAT. Anyone else having wireless problems with FiOS on an MBP?

There are over 23000 compatible Mac hardware and software titles on http://guide.apple.com/ Even if there were only 64 compatible Mac and hardware titles, that would take longer than the age of the universe to test every possible combination of software and hardware, based on a single test every second with 64 factorial equaling greater than the age of the universe in seconds. Somewhere even old items are going to drop off in terms of compatibility. That's why there are specs. That's why Apple sets developer guidelines at http://developer.apple.com/
Your $1000 router, is probably only worth $10 today, if it doesn't meet today's current standards. Apple makes an effort to follow the standards of present day. If you spent $1000 on your router, I sure hope the company that makes it has a good support system. If it doesn't, it sounds like you made an unwise purchase then, and should sell it and get a better router. Apple's Airport Extreme base stations are only $179. You can setup a wireless distribution system with them, and Airport Express base stations which are only $99 that probably will cover just as many machines as your $1000 router.

New imac 27(Intel based, bought 2013) slow wifi connection with my Verizon fios actiontec router. All other wireless devices in the house(ipad 3gen,MacBook Air ,hp laptop) have a much faster connection. Should I change router settings to G only, switch channel from auto to maybe 6,channel width to 20mhz? Already changed security settings to WPA2.  Currently router is running in mixed b and g mode.

If you have one computer running on G they will all run on G. All ROUTERS are backward compatible, in otherwords if you have a group of computers and all of them are N compatible and one or two are G They will all work but the N computers will run at N and those that are G will run at G speed not N.
It can get confusing but really it is simple. The newest is 802.11 AC and ic used with the newest Mac Computers made available in November 2013. So if you have the newest Airport Extreme that is 802.11ac and the newest computers that are AC compliant your speed will be 5 times faster than anything on the market right now.

  • Setting up New Airport Extreme with Verizon Fios Actiontec MI-424-WR Modem

I just purchased the new Airport Extreme to run my network at home. My internet provider is Verizon Fios. With their installs, they use an Actiontec MI424WR modem/router. I would like to disable the router part of the Actiontec and use the AEBS for my router. Any advice on how to accomplish this? Thanks.

ufbrad24, Welcome to the discussion area!
FiOS does not require a modem. The Actiontec device is a router only.
You could replace the Actiontec completely with the AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS). Many have discovered that this can be done by a quick call to Verizon.

  • Airport Express and Fios Actiontec router compatible?

I have multiple Airport Expresses and an Airport Extreme.  Verion FIOS supplied it own Actiontec router which hooks into their Optical Network Terminal.  Since the Actiontec router took over, I've removed the Airport Extreme and the Airport Expresses work only to receive iTunes music from my computers. The Expresses do not extend the WiFi signal anymore.  The Actontec router is powerful but at the far end of the house, I no longer get a WiFi signal.  Previously with my Extreme and Expresses, I could extend the signal wherever I needed it.
I wonder if I can plug my Extreme into a hardwired LAN terminal from the router and use it to create its own WiFi network in the areas of the house where there is no signal?

I wonder if I can plug my Extreme into a hardwired LAN terminal from the router and use it to create its own WiFi network in the areas of the house where there is no signal?
Yes, this is possible if the AirPort Extreme stays permanently connected using an Ethernet cable.
If you want to create one "big" network, use the same wireless network name and password on the AirPort Extreme that you use on the Actiontec router. Setup the AirPort Extreme to "create a wireless network". The Extreme must be in Bridge Mode to do this.
If you configure the AirPort Extreme with a different wireless network name, then you will need to log on to that network separately each time that you move your computer close to the AirPort Extreme.....then log back on again to the Actiontec when the computer moves back near that router.
If the AirPort Express devices are located where they can receive a good wireless signal from the AirPort Extreme....and you need even more wireless coverage.....,the Expresses could be reconfigured to "extend" the wireless signal from the AirPort Extreme like you were doing before.

  • FIOS Actiontec Router "Range" Question

  • Connecting linksys to fios actiontec router

About six months ago my family got verizon FiOS. They came in and set up everything and even took the liberty to remove the linksys router I had before. Well, their Actiontec router doesnt really satisfy me as well as my linksys router did before and I would like to use my linksys router instead. Unfortunately, I am not tech savvy and was hoping someone here could help me.
I tried to connect my linksys directly to the actiontec one through an ethernet cable but that did not yield any results. I have also looked on other forums but to no avail - mainly because the explanations given are way above my head and involve words like coax and throwing around abbreviations for things which I do not understand.
If someone who has maybe had a similar predicament to mine or is just knowledgable to this sort of thing could give me a ste by step explanation, it would be greatly appreciated!
please remember I am not very savvy in the technology area, so please dumb it down.
    Thanks in advance!

Hi... 1st plug a PC directly to the Linksys router alone. Then on this particular PC... open up internet explorer (it's ok if it says "page could not be displayed")... and type on the address bar  just the following numbers: 192.168.1.1 (username just leave it blank, password as a default is admin)...
This process should bring you to a Linksys page... look for something labeled as the "Local IP Address" or the LAN IP Address... if the value is 192.168.1.1.. change this to 192.168.5.1... then save the settings... (page would not be displayed after this.. again that's ok).....
Then go to the DOS prompt (start---run---type in cmd) .... and type the command ipconfig/release (hit enter)... and then ipconfig/renew (hit enter).....
Next connect the Actiontech router to the internet/WAN port of the Linksys router. Then do a powercycle. That is turn off all of the devices... router - modem and PC's.. then turn them on in the order of modem--routers-and PC's.......
After this process, you should now hopefully be online on the PC connected to the Linksys router.......

  • How can I get my Cisco wireless router to wirelessly connect to my Verizon Fios Actiontec router?

I have Verizon Fios for internet, tv and phone. The Verizon Actiontec router is connected with a ethernet cable into my desktop and the internet is up and running. Now I bought a Cisco Linksys WRT54GL Wireless-G Broadband Router, and I wanted to connect it to another desktop two floors up. I set up the Cisco router according to the instructions, but I'm not able to connect to the internet. It shows that my computer was able to get a Local Network connection, but internet connection keeps failing.... I tried changing the IP address. But I'm confused about the whole thing. Is the Default gateway number suppose to be the same for both routers? Is it possible that the Actiontec router isnt giving off a strong enough wireless signal? I'm open for suggestions! Thanks

    Mac or Windows machine?
Is the WRT connected directly to the upstairs computer? I don't think you can use the WRT that way?
Have you had a look here?:http://homecommunity.cisco.com/t5/Wireless-Routers/General-Linksys-Router-FAQs/td-p/4286
I THINK you would have to have a WETxx (Ethernet Adapter)  instead?
If it connects to the Internet even breifly then I suppose that means your connected but it may be losing the signal and failng. You would porbably have ot get a WAP(Access Point) and use it as a repeater.
I'm a bit rusty on the names so I hope i got them right, hope it helps.....

  • Need Advice on Best Router to Connect to Fios Actiontec M1424WR

From reading several of the postings I too want to connect a second router to my network to increase my connections speeds.  Currently I have fios 35/35 but of course I never reach such speeds wired or wireless.  So many routers are available but I want to make sure I purchase one that will do what I need.  What then would be the best router for me to use with this Actiontec.  I live in a 3 story home and my actiontec is on the top floor of my home.  Assistance would be appreciated.

Try a hardwired connection to see if you get the speed. No need to change the router out if you get 35Mbps or higher out. Even the oldest ActionTecs/Westells are capable of doing 100Mbps. If you're trying to get such speed on Wireless and have confirmed it's coming in, add an Access Point such as the Trendnet Easy-N Upgrader (Make sure your devices support Wireless N as well!) and shut off the FiOS router's Wireless or re-purpose it for Wireless G devices.

  • How to use Aiport Express with Verizon FIOS Actiontec MI424WR

The Airport Express won't connect to the Actiontec MI424WR FiOS router when it's set to use WPA2 encryption.
I figured this out after a couple of hours of resetting the Airport Express and Googling the issue.
It's annoying to have to "downgrade" to WPA but other than leaving the network unprotected, that's the only way to make them work together.
So on the Actiontec, use WPA TKIP & AES (make sure both TKIP & AES are selected as AES alone won't work either) encryption.
On the Airport Express pick WPA/ WPA2 Personal.
The Pass-Phrase should obviously be the same.
I hope this helps someone by showing-up in Google searches for people.

    Thanks for your post.
Apple does note that the AirPort Express cannot join "other" networks using WPA2, but it's buried in the fine print of footnote #3 on the spec sheet, so most folks are going to miss that bit of information.

  • Settings for fios actiontec router using coax when adding time capsule as ac router

I would like to set up my new time capsule as my main wireless router on a fios coax-wan internet that is currently using the m1424wr revisiion I router.
What are the settings i should use for the actiontec versus the time capsule and what is the best way to set it up to take advantage of the AC wireless on the TC without losing set top box features providing by the actiontec router over coax?
I got the TC to conenct via WAN to LAN on actiontec but i think that may limit my ability to take advantage of the capabilities of the time capsule.
Any suggestions ont the best set up given I have multiple devices both iOS, OSX and need relaiable coverage of a 3 story town house.
    Thanks!
    Tim

Best setup is to bridge the TC.. which I think is how you set it up.
I got the TC to conenct via WAN to LAN on actiontec but i think that may limit my ability to take advantage of the capabilities of the time capsule.
You do miss the guest wireless network and BTMM on the TC itself... but otherwise it is the best for everything else.
Tell us if you need these functions.
To cover a 3 storey town house a single wireless router is not going to be adequate.. if you can place the TC on a different floor to the modem that could be very helpful, with ethernet to link the two.
Otherwise you need an Express or two so the coverage can be extended.

  • Losing Connection to FiOS ActionTec router

I recently got FiOS, which came with one of the newest models of router from ActionTec (so new it isn't on their support site). I have the wireless router set for mixed (b & g) mode. I am able to connect with my iMac G5 and connect my AE in client mode for AirTunes, both on 802.11g, with the network secured using WPA.
The problem is my aging PowerBook 1 GHz; it sees the network, logs in, gets an IP, and can operate on the network for 15 to 30 minutes. After that, even if it is downloading something, it stops communicating on the newtork even though the signal is strong, and it shows that it is connected to the network. The ActionTec router control panel does not see it anymore as a network device. Turning off AirPort and turning it back on restores the connection. AirPort is currently the primary network connection.
I have gone through the ActionTec control panel looking for ideas. I have turned off the Ethernet port for this network location. I have tried interference robustness. Again, the machine shows a full strength connection and shows it is connected to my network. There is another network from one of my neighbors, but the other devices are not affected. Also, moving the laptop right next to the router doesn't improve the situation.
Problem started under 10.4.8, persists now. BTW, machine worked fine when AE was set up as the router when I had DSL.
    PowerBook G4 15" Titanium 1GHZ   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   784MB RAM

Just like the KB said, the only way to get reconnected is to turn AirPort on and back off.
    http://yellowmug.com/blog/2006/06/26/airport-problem/
It may also be in the developer tools. I can't remember where I got it. After downloading it. I modified it for my purposes and then had it launch when I logged in (Startup Items). It did the job, but every time the connection goes down, you do have to let the script do its thing, interrupting your work. However, at least it does it automatically.
I finally fixed the problem by getting a new Santa Rosa MacBook Pro. Works like a charm.

  • Configuring E3000 to work with Verizon FIOS actiontec cable modem / router

Hi all, I've read knowledgebase Article ID: 3733, which seems to get me on the right track, but the router menu screens shown do not match the E3000's screens.
I have a FIOS cable modem / router in the basement that I need to keep since it drives all the FIOS guide and on demand features. I have a NAS drive in the basement and all the house hard wiring runs to the basement as well.
I wanted wireless n and a better location for the wireless access point, so I bought the E3000 and put it in the kitchen on the main floor
When I wired a numbered LAN port on the E3000 to a numbered LAN port on the ActionTec and brought  the router up all worked fine, but quickly found that wireless clients could not see the NAS.  I suspect that this is because the E3000 uses a different address range(192.168.0.1)  than the actiontec (http://192.168.1.1/).  I ended up moving the NAS upstairs to temporarily fix this, but my wife would like me to get it out of her kitchen ASAP :-)
I tried just about every setting imaginable (setting IP of E3000 actiontec range, disabling NAT, disabling DHCP, enabling/disabling RIP) to get the E3000 to simply become a wireless gateway and wired switch and let the actiontec do the routing but never could get it to work.
Could someone post a version of Article ID: 3733 that works for the E3000???
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Press and hold the reset button on E3000 router for 30 seconds. Release the reset button and wait for 30 seconds. Power cycle E3000 router.
Now connect one computer to Ethernet port 2 on the router ( Do not connect the cable between modem and E3000 )
open the setup page of E3000. Change the wireless settings of E3000 router.
Go to Setup tab and change the IP address of E3000 router to 192.168.1.2.
Disable DHCP server on the router and save the settings.
Do NOT change any other settings ( NAT firewall ).
Connect the cable from modem to the Ethernet port 1 on E3000 router. power cycle the router.
Now try to access the Internet through E3000 router.

  • Loose wifi when adding a networking device to my Fios Actiontec router

    Ok so here's the story:
I switched to FIOS from another company recently. So far so good. I have a main hard wired desktop and 2 laptops w/wifi. All runon Window Vista
Starting about 2 weeks, ago, I coudn't connect wiressly anymore. I tried everything (re-booting, re-installing, etc etc, you name it). All I would get was "Local Access Only" (on all 3 computers) when trying to go wireless.
I spent a good while with a VZ tech on chat and in the end, he decided it was best to send me a new router.
The new router arrived today. And go figure, that was not the issue. I connect everything as instructed and still would have no wi-fi.
So..after much thought, I decided to unplug my Aruba Networks device from the router. It's one of those devices used to download data from a hand held computer like the one's UPS drivers use: http://www.arubanetworks.com/
AND! now it works like a char, wi-fi back on, on all 3 computers, fast, no problem.
I a assuming that there's some sort of networking/IP/whatever conflict between the Aruba controller and the router. Problem is, my boyfriend really needs it connected and I really need my wi-fi. So...any idea how I would go about adding this device to the router without causing any conflicts to my network?
    THANKS!
    Alex

Has your boyfriend rerun the provisioning process since you switched to FIOS?
There is a quickstart guide here:
    http://community.arubanetworks.com/aruba/attachments/aruba/unified-wired-wireless-access/23814/1/RAP...
That quickstart doesn't give any information on how the RAP-2WG interfaces with a local LAN.
You're probably going to have to get you boyfriend's IT department involved.
My guess is that the Aruba device is trying to "own" the 192.168.1.x subnet, which is what the FIOS router uses.
