FireActionPerformed

Question

I have Jbutton in whose action listener i have written the action it performs. Now what i want to do, is to fire this button's actionperformed event on the occurance of a different event so that i dont have to write the code for what to do on that action as the action is they same. The exact situation is that i have written the action listener for the button as
button1.addActionListener(new ActionListener() {
public void actionPerformed(Action Event e)
//the action
button2.addActionListener(new ActionListener() {
public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e2)
ActionEvent ae = new ActionEvent(e2.getSource,1,"domethine");
button1.fireActionPerformed(ae);
});but this gives me an error that fireActionPerformed is protected acess in AbstractButton
i am not clear about this, ok its protected access but the instance accessing it is of a a subclass, so y is that error there, and is there any other way to do this.

button2.addActionListener(new ActionListener() {
