Firefox 13 linux checks for updates and says it is up to date even though my other systems have auto-updated a week or two ago.

My firefox auto-updated to 10.0, 10.0.1, 11, and 12. but would not auto-update to 13.0 so I manually downloaded and updated. now that 14 is out it still won't auto-update. by which I mean when I go to HELP, ABOUT, it says it is fire fox 13.0, says it's checking for updates (very very briefly) then says "firefox is up to date". several other systems have auto-updated from 13 to 14, a couple of weeks ago but this one refuses. what's wrong here?

You will be slightly behind if you use Linux and their own version of Firefox instead of the Mozilla standard version. (Not of course standard in some Linux distros)

Not sure why fx13 is not updating for you.
Maybe something to do with your distro IF it is their version. IIRC some early Ubuntu LTS versions probably did not update Firefox. But you may have the Mozilla version as your system info aside shows <br/>''User Agent Mozilla/5.0 (X11; '''Linux '''i686; rv:13.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/13.0''

What is the Firefox start page looking for when it tells me I'm not using the most current version and need to update Firefox? The check for updates button says my version is up to date, but the start page disagrees. Is there a setting I need to adjust?

Okay: My start page is the one Google provides: http://www.google.ca/firefox?client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official and frequently it has a note underneath the search box that "You're not on the latest version of Firefox. Upgrade today to get the best of the Web!" But when I check for updates on the About Firefox window, it says my Firefox is up to date. So what is the start page looking for? Is there some setting I need to adjust? Or is this a Google marketing ploy to get me to switch to Chrome?

I tentatively think I have the solution; this is for when the session id value 'thing', in about:config, referred to in other answers is already on the default/rest state.
I am assuming, I don't what to imply certainty in-case there is a value wrong in our browsers, that the problem stems from the fact that our homepage is no longer the default for Firefox.
So, go to 'Options'>'General' and delete the homepage. This will reset it to the new address, which is 'about:home'.

Usually, the "notify" setting works fine. I don't know whether having Yahoo as the home page makes a difference. ??

I had the same issue, went to itunes store on the Apple TV but the rented movie would not download. Tried this over and over again, restarted ATV and it still didn't work. I had itunes open on my Imac so I closed it and forced it to quit. Voila the movie showed up in the top row as a rented movie!

Keep in mind that on the Mac, even if you close all windows of an application, the application itself may still be running with no windows open. If you have closed all Safari windows, look at the Dock to see if there is a glowing dot under the Safari icon. If there is a dot, Safari is still running, so click the Dock icon and then choose Safari/Quit Safari.
As an alternative to looking for the dot under an application in the Dock, I often use the Command-Tab keyboard shortcut to display the Application Switcher so I can see which applications are still open.
You don't have to open Activity Monitor to quit a program unless there really is no way to way to do it from the normal interface.
The only applications that quit when you close the window are the ones that only have one window, like System Preferences.

After an update a week or two ago my iphone5 began to go off the correct time. This happens at night. It does not matter whether it is on the charger or not. I have OS6.0.1(10A525), Verizon network, a white 16Gig iPhone.

So again...I have a 16G white iphone 5. It kept good time when I first got it. Then after an update to the ios about 2 weeks ago... it started to lose time at night. It's set for 10AM and doesn't go off until about 30 to 40 minutes later. It only seems to lose time at night. It doesn't matter whether it is being charged or not. I have the white iphone 5, 6.0.1 (10A525), 16G, Verizon network, Washington state. I have had Verizon coverage for aver 10 years and never had this problem before the latest upgrade to my iphone5.
I did remove the other world clocks thinking that might help but it did not.

No. You have no alternative but to plug it into a computer running iTunes and restore it.

I saved my data in Sync, reformatted and now i cant access my data even though i have my username/password.

when i uploaded my data, a screen told me i could close it and it would upload in background. I figured that was that. I have now reformatted my computer, so the old "device" no longer exists, since its the same one im on now... i clicked the lost other device button, it gave me a key but it doesnt work? I agree with jbaldwin9182. This is a serious bug. The way sync is presented, one might easily interpret it as being a way to backup your data. I also used sync as such, having read the description and being assured by two others that really, all I needed to do was make an account and that would be that. Without this sync key I never learned about important data, over half of which irreplacable, disappeared just like that. Why wasn't I given notice that I needed a sync key? I would have saved it five times over.
There are hardly any services which people who know little of computers (like myself) are used to which ask for more than your username/email and password. People are not likely to realise you need anything else unless you tell them. It is easy to tell the user that this was not intended as a backup device, but the description does lead to the conclusion that it is, in fact, a way to backup your data. Please don't tell people they are doing something wrong when they are not being properly informed of what they should be doing in the first place.

Hello. I went to Tools, Plug-ins and check for updates as I do once a week, every week, and yet now, after checking, Firefox says 'no plug-ins detected'. My plug-ins are still all there in Tools, Add-ons, so why am I getting this message?

I check my plug-is for updates once a week, yet as of today, despite the fact that my plug-ins are all still there in Tools, plug-ins, after I click on the find updates button, I get the usual screen that tells me Firefox is checking for updates to my plug-ins, but then I get the message saying 'No plug-ins detected.' This has never happened before and it means I can't check for updates to my plug-ins.

There is a fault with the plugin check service, Mozilla are looking into it.

My firefox beta 12 using Linux platform does not update to firefox RC1 via the "check for update" function. I know windows' beta version had this fixed, when would Linux get similar support ?

Background : previously downloaded beta 8 and then it automatically updated to beta 12 using update features but for RC1, it does not.

Many thanks for your reply, the machine was bought from Currys the 3.6 download warns you it will only be supported for a short time, and recommends downloading ver 7, I am unfamiliar with the workings of Linux but the machine has been good, there must be a solution, no problem if we have to pay for the upgrade.
