Firefox ClassNotFoundException (works in IE6)

Hi all,
I've recently rebuilt a java application with about ten classes in the default package - rather than buried in a package three layers down.
Now, instead of running in IE6 and Firefox as it did before, it only works in IE.
Anyone got any ideas?
This is how I'm invoking the applet:
<applet id="Mapplet" name="Mapplet" width="100%" height="100%"
codebase=""
code="nav/wdd/avlmap/AVLMapClient.class"
archive="http://navbox/mapserver/AVLMapClient.jar"
mayscript="mayscript" alt=""
>
Your browser is unable to load this applet - please contact tech support.
</applet>
Trying to run this under Firefox I get:

• Spry not working in IE6-Please Help!

I put this site together using Spry framework. The content is filled in using spry. It works well in Firefox, Safari and seems to work well in IE7 and IE8, however don't appear to work in IE6. Could someone please take a look at this and let me know what needs to be changed so that it works in IE6. Here's the URL:
http://massageforwellbeing.biz/
Thanks.

Well, that's progress. Unfortunately I work on a MAC so it's a bit rough to try to fix the problems in realtime. In any case, I did look at it newly and the last problem is that it makes the whole thing out of whack. Doesn't happen in older versions of IE. Any suggestions on how to fix this?

Hello
I am pretty sure they know about this issue and software companies must not hear what the people say. For me it is logic that they watch what happen on the software market and try to adapt own products as soon as possible.
This issue with IE8 is known and soon or later the updated version will be offered on download page but the question is: when?
I cannot understand why they wait so long time. OK, to fix some issue and testing procedure can take a days but IE8 is not on the market from yesterday.
Lets see how long it will be necessary for AuthenTec to fix this issue.

• Safari and firefox stop working after a few minutes of browsing, regardless of what site I'm on. I have to restart my computer to get internet access again but it only works for a few more minutes, then I have to restart again. Please help!

Safari and firefox stop working after a few minutes of browsing, regardless of what site I'm on. I have to restart my computer to get internet access again but it only works for a few more minutes, then I have to restart again. I don't get a spinning ball, it just stops working at whatever page it's on. I can close the program just fine but when I re-open it, either safari or firefox, it freezes trying to load the hompage. This started a few days ago after trying to stream a movie on my computer. I'm on a Mac Air OS X Version 10.6.8 and have downloaded all updates. When I go into finder, it says I have over 80 gigs available. Is there some other memory cache that I need to check? Thanks so much for your help.

It's not a router problem as I explained in my post. If it was a router problem then I wouldn't have the problem everywhere I go. It is an issue with the software.
Then I guess the millions of people running 10.5.7 with no issues are just hallucinating that their machines are working fine?
I'm not trying to belittle your issues; you're certainly having them and I know first hand how annoying an intermittent AirPort issue can be. (In fact, mine was due to an AirPort driver bug that no one else seemed to suffer from.)
The single best diagnostic you could do is take your system running 10.5.7 to an Apple Store, and try using their in-store network.
If your machine performs flawlessly, it may be a router issue.
If your machine has connectivity issues there, it may be a hardware problem with your machine.
There have been numerous people in multiple threads over the years who swore that an update was buggy because things used to work, but returned later to sheepishly admit that they took their machine in, a problem was found and fixed, and now their Mac works flawlessly with the newer software.
But simply reinstalling 10.5.5 in no way means the explanation of how firmware bugs may be at play here is incorrect.
In the context of that explanation, all you've done is possibly reinstall software that asks to add "2 + 3."

I changed from a dial up to a high speed network and can no longer get Firefox to work as my browser. What can I do.
I did try to download Firefox again, but still will not work.

Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
* Firefox 6.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
* Uninstall your current Firefox version.
* Do not remove personal data when you uninstall the current version.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
* It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

• Firefox 24 and 25-b always hangs when starting up on mac Osx 10.8.5 despite trying everything suggested on support pages. Reverting to firefox 22 works. Help?

I have tried everything on support yet it keeps crashing. My macbook pro has the same software (10.8.5) yet firefox 25.0 works like a dream. My desk top is part of an office network with 10.8 server.
Question title edited by moderator to change "keeps crashing" to "always hangs", since Firefox isn't crashing - it's not responding. aw

I encounter the same problem. I suspect this has to do with remote user homes. Firefox 24 works on local accounts - not in server hosted ones.
I am sorry i can not provide crash reports because Firefox hangs in such an early state - it does not write crash logs. It literally does not crash - it just stops to respond a lounchtime - so it does not give an error in the system console, too.
We have 20 Workstations (OSX 10.8.5) working with apple remote user homes. the problem is persistent on all systems. Firefox 23 worked fine and does again if you reinstall it.

• Javascript or applet dropdown menus won't work in IE6, How can I solve this

I've made some dropdownmenu's of javascript and one of java applets. But they don't work in IE6. If IE6 is installed they won't work either. My friend has IE5.5 and he has no problems with the menus. How can you make them work.
And how can you change the z-index of a javascipt/applet? How do you make a dropdownmenu that's put in the topframe slide over the mainframe?

Perhaps someone could help me with the following question:
I have a menu that cascades out of the Applet box. My question is:
How do I close the menu without clicking on the Applet box? - i.e. if the user clicks on the HTML area of the WEB-PAGE, or simply waits a second or 2, the menu should collapse?
I notice that this is actually the default behavior for the AWT classes - but then you can't set background colors etc. I need the same kind of behavior, but using Swing classes.
Would appreciate any assistance or advice...

• Can't get Firefox to work properly behind corporate proxy

I am forced to use Firefox behind our corporate proxy and have to continually make exceptions just to get to sites, but even this doesn't always work. I don't know much about certificates, but I know certificates are issued by our organization for each user and device. I've tried exporting the personal certificate from IE and importing it into Firefox without success (couldn't export certificate completely and in correct format for Firefox) and am not sure if I'm even taking the right approach. IE is our only approved browser and I'm sure part of the reason is that proxy settings can be forced via group policy. I've tried adding a certificate exception to Firefox for our proxy, but Firefox is "Unable to obtain identification for this site". Is there any way to get Firefox to function correctly in this environment or somehow get Firefox to work through IE?

I think most proxies work the same way: they generate a fake certificate for the website and present that to your browser so they can decrypt and inspect the traffic between you and the site. It's a hassle having to make exceptions for the individual fake certificates -- it's more efficient to recognize the certificate the proxy uses to sign the fake certificates as a valid certificate authority.
The trick is identifying that certificate. It might be easiest to do from IE or Chrome, since both use the Windows certificate store (Firefox uses its own). By inspecting the certificate for a secure site and the certificate used to sign it, you may be able to identify and export that certificate (DER or .cer format).
In Firefox, you would import that into the Authorities section of the Certificates dialog:
"3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced > Certificates mini-tab > "View Certificates" button > Authorities mini-tab > "Import..." button
Of course, it probably is safest to verify with your IT that you've found and exported the correct certificate before importing it into Firefox.

• Firefox only works after I re-boot my computer

I just got a new computer last week. It is running Windows 8 - 64 bit. I installed Firefox, used it for a week, set up my bookmarks, etc. and it worked fine. The other day when I logged in and opened Firefox, I couldn't click on anything - nothing would happen - it was like it was frozen. I went into Internet Explorer and also into Google Chrome and they both worked fine - I could click on things and it would do what it was supposed to do. So, I re-booted my computer and then Firefox worked fine. Same thing the next day, Firefox only worked after I re-booted my computer...and also today, same thing. Why is it frozen when I first go into it, but if I re-boot the whole computer, it works? Has me baffled. Any help would be appreciated, because it is my favorite browser. But if this keeps up, I won't be using it anymore. Thank you!
I have my home page set to Yahoo, so that's where it goes when I open it. When I get there, I can't click on my e-mail, nothing in the toolbar, it's totally frozen.

Hello,
Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that temporarily turns off hardware acceleration, resets some settings, and disables add-ons (extensions and themes).
If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu:
*In Firefox 29.0 and above, click the menu button , click Help and select Restart with Add-ons Disabled.
*In previous Firefox versions, click on the Firefox button at the top left of the Firefox window and click on Help (or click on Help in the Menu bar, if you don't have a Firefox button) then click on Restart with Add-ons Disabled.
If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:
* On Windows: Hold the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
* On Mac: Hold the option key while starting Firefox.
* On Linux: Quit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run firefox -safe-mode <br>(you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)
When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "Start in Safe Mode".
:
If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, theme, or hardware acceleration. Please follow the steps in the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article to find the cause.
To exit Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.
When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help others with the same problem.

• Flash not working in ie6

I am starting to go a bit cross eyed here.
I am currently testing a site I am doing in IE6. There is a flash banner at the top of the site which works perfectly in IE7, FF, Oprah and safari but in IE6 it is just a white box. I have vista so I have to check this on another laptop using Multi ie as IE tester doesn’t register flash. I have changed to file name, made sure the param value has the correct url in it, and updated the latest version of flash. Still nothing is working in ie6. I need it to work in order for me to align it correctly but all I see is a white box which looks to be wider then it show be.
Here is the embed code:

      </object></noscript>
(sorry can't see how to wrap code on here)

As i said above I have no idea. All i get is:
"Version test for Adobe Flash Player
Ratings:8 of 9 people found this helpful
The SWF movie below displays the specific version of the Adobe Flash Player currently installed and active in your browser. For Flash Player 6 or later, it also tests to see if the debug or shipping version of Flash Player is installed. "
and then it is blank...this is when using the ie6 browser. I have to test ie6 using my bfs laptop because i have vista.
