"Firefox is running" but not visible in task bar

"Firefox is running" is message on screen but there is no evidence of that and it does not appear on the taskbar so it cannot be "closed." What now?
Can't get access to Yahoo Games. Why? Must use IE to get to games. Why?

This may not be the best or only way to do this on version 2.1 but you can try these steps:
Login as the schema that owns the application. Go to SQL Workshop and run:
select v('WORKSPACE_ID') from dual;
Say that returns 9999999999999.
Say your application ID is 555.
Now connect in SQL*Plus as FLOWS_020100 and run this:
begin
wwv_flow_api.set_security_group_id('9999999999999');
update wwv_flows set build_status = 'RUN_AND_BUILD' where id = 555 and security_group_id=9999999999999;
commit;
end;

    There are several possible causes, see [[Firefox is already running but is not responding]].

    After using firefox for a while if I exit, parent.lock is locked and i have to reboot to reload firefox.
    I have killed all firefox applications from task manager (usually there are none). and I have tried 3 different "file unlock" programs including unlocker to no avail.
    I also recently installed a program that shows -all- open files, and parent.lock is not listed, and thus not closable/unlockable from there.

  • Firefox 27 running but not running

    I'm running Windows 7 32-bit. When I installed it, I installed Firefox 27. It worked fine. Then, out of the blue, it began freezing--not momentary, but the kind of freeze which forces one to "crash" shutdown. Sometimes 5 minutes into using firefox, sometimes 30, sometimes almost instantly, and I had no idea why. I tried removing 'plug-in container', which seemed to help, although I still noticed 1 or 2 instances where there'd be momentary freeze. Still, I got along.
    Then, maybe a week ago, Firefox suddenly "vanished" as in the problem where its "running" but isn't visible. I opened task manager. Firefox.exe was on the processes tab, but not on the applications tab. Nothing I did could induce it to open. Finally, overly annoyed at what was supposed to be a stable installation, I went with 28, the current beta. I "imported" my personal data. All good so far. I opened a website I frequently visit--the font was much smaller than it was last time I was there (using F-27). Nothing I tried changed the page size, but it wasn't a huge deal. So I moved my extensions\add-ons in. My appearances\themes weren't there, all extentions were, and I think all of my other add-ons were also there (I think). But none of this did me any good cause Firefox decided the only way it was goina start was in safe mode. (I'm pulling my hair by this point)
    Extremely annoyed, I removed F-28 and re-installed F-27, but its still the same problem--not opening even though task manager says its running. I looked around here at the solutions to similar problems, but was unable to find any that helped me. Anyone have any idea whats going on?
    Thanks

    Hi Firefox-117,
    Thank you for posting your question, and apologies for the delay. I understand that you tried 28 and went back to 27 with the same profile, it now only starts in safe mode and it may have all the add ons there. When Firefox is in safe mode, to make sure, all of the add ons will still be listed in the add on page (about:addons)
    It sounds like one of the add ons is causing the issue, since it only works in safe mode. By process of elimination it is possible to turn off all of the add ons and turn them on one by one to find out with one is causing it to freeze. There are also troubleshooting steps in this article: [[Firefox hangs or is not responding - How to fix]]
    Hope this helps!

  • Get message firefox already running but not responding when trying to launch..tells me to close firefox wondow and try again (no ffox window is open)

    When trying to launch Firefox I get the following message.
    "Firefox is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Firefox process, or restart your system."
    This is not the first time and I am tired of having to restart my computer. BTW I have Firefox as my default browser, but had to use IE to get to this support site!
    In answer to the next question...every time I TRY to open Firefox.

    Simple fix for you I think--it works for me.
    1. Open your TASK MANAGER (rt click on your taskbar)
    2. Go to PROCESSES
    3. Scroll down until you see "firefox.exe"(or anything with the word Firefox in it)
    4. Click(highlight) the "firefox.exe"
    5. At the bottom right side,click "End Process"
    6. Close the Task Manager and do whatever you were attempting to do.
    Cheers

  • Firefox will not start -already running- but not visible in askbar - W-7

    Asin XP, now on windows 7, firefox occasionally would not restart and I had to open task manager to end it.
    THIS TIME, it does not appear in taskmanager. I uninstalled, restarted the cpu, and installed anew. same issue.
    Firefox will not run -- get the window saying firefox is already running. . .
    How can I end it???????
    I'd rather not use IE.

    Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
    See Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile:
    *https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Basic+Troubleshooting#w_8-make-a-new-profile
    If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile (be careful not to copy corrupted files)

  • Itunes Startup problem (process is running but not visible)

    The problem with my iTunes is that while the iTunes process is running in the task manager, I cannot see the actual iTunes window pop up on my monitor. There are no error messages or anything like that. I have tried restarting and changing users but none of them worked. Any solutions?

    I had the same problem.
    I had not experienced this problem before until I recently reformatted my hard drive and reinstalled Windows XP Pro with SP3.
    The only program that failed to work was iTunes.
    When I looked at the solution for unregistering and registering various dll's, my machine had 2 (well, initially I thought 2) dll's that were missing: sccbase.dll and slbcsp.dll. The registry entries are also missing for those two. I don't know if MS all of a sudden decided those two were not important anymore.
    Anyhow, re-adding the registry entries did not help and using regsvr32 on those two dlls (despite downloading them into the system32 folder) did not work and caused load library failures.
    Those dlls require other dlls in order to work. Sccbase.dll requires sccsccp.dll and dwmapi.dll to run. After those two dlls are placed in system32 folder, sccbase.dll can finally be registered successfully.
    Slbcsp.dll requires slbiop.dll to work...unfortunately, that just lead to yet again another registration failure (0xe06d7363 error code). However, despite this, itunes will now actually run. I tried running itunes without slbcsp.dll, and it did not work. So, it still does require slbcsp.dll somehow despite it not working exactly properly.
    In summary, this is what I did:
    1) Edited the registry to add 2 missing entries for 2 missing dlls: sccbase.dll and slbcsp.dll. Used this site for info: http://forums.cnet.com/5208-6142_102-0.html?forumID=5&threadID=275051&messageID= 2649940
    2) Found other missing dlls required by these 2 dlls (by using Dependency Walker). Used this site for info: http://forums.majorgeeks.com/archive/index.php?t-150722.html
    3) Registered sccbase.dll successfully. Slbcsp.dll was not registered successfully, but still required for itunes to run. Now iTunes 7.7.0.43 will run for me (and not just in the background).

  • What does it mean when the message says " Firefox is running but not responding, in order to use Firfox, close open progams or restart your computer

    I can not find Mozilla or Firefox on the taskbar as open programs so I can not close it? . I end up re starting mu computer .?? What am i doing wrong?
    thanks for your help

    It is often possible to find and kill processes even if not on a taskbar. You will be looking for firefox.exe . I use Windows XP pro and could use the Taskkill command or TaskManager, other OS will have similar facilities .
    See
    *[http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb491009.aspx MS link]
    *[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kill_%28command%29 Wiki kill]
    Another [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/770309 thread] suggests deleting profile.ini may solve similar problems, in some cases (but be careful; you are likely to loose information)

  • Why doesn't Firefox stop running when I shut it off? Every time I shut it off and return later, I get a message that Firefox is running, but not responding and that I have to restart my computer to access Firefox.

    When I shut down Firefox I get all the shutdown messages, so I assume it has shut down as it should. But if I go back to my PC later (within an hour or so) and click on Firefox to bring it up, I get the "runningbutnotresponding" message and the promt to restart my PC.

  • "Close Firefox - Error Message -. Firefox already running, but not responding -.." A real pain - Firefox worked much better before all the updates!! How do I fix this?

    This pop-up appears anytime I attempt to close Firefox and immediately open another browser, etc.
    Suspect it is add-ons related. Never had the problem with "older" version of Firefox.
    It is a real nuisance, almost makes me go to Explorer!

    Try to wait a bit longer (up to 1 minute or maybe more) as it can take some time for Firefox to close completely.

  • V6.01, Windows 7, click on icon, "firefox is already running but not responding" Task manager doesn't know about it. I can't quit it or get it to load. Brand new install. What to do?

    Brand new Lenovo computer, Windows 7 Home. New install of Firefox 6.0.1, set as default browser, don't launch when I click done. Icon appears in tray. I click the icon, and a message says "firefox is running but not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing process, or reboot". It's not obviously running. I can't find a way to make it quit. Task manager doesn't list it as a current application. Uninstall using the control panel uninstall function and then reinstalling gives the same message. Rebooting doesn't fix the problem and gives the same message. Firefox had been working until I tried to update my bookmarks.

    No can do. I can delete the current profile and install Firefox, which should create a new blank profile. The message still says "Firefox is already running." I can place my old profile in the proper folder, and Firefox will still be already running. I can't actually use Firefox, because even though the message says it is running, there is nothing on the screen I can access.
    After uninstalling Firefox, deleting the two items left in the Programs folder, and deleting the profile again, it still didn't work. I then got frisky and from the Roaming folder I deleted the Mozilla folder which contains the Firefox folder which contains the now empty Profiles folder. That worked, and a new set of folders with a new blank profile were created. So apparently it was the empty folders that never got deleted that were causing the issue.
    Thanks for your suggestion. It got me thinking.

  • Firefox stops loading new pages, displays "Loading". When I close it it goes. But when I restart it gives me "Another version is running, but not responding. This requires a power cycle reboot.

    Version 3.6.18. Running on Windows XP Pro. (kept current)
    This happens on a variety of pages. I get the little Loading thing in the tab, with the circle moving. So I X out (to exit Firefox). When I go to restart I get the error message "Another version of FireFox is running, but not responding". I give Windows the "three finger salute", and go to Task Manager, and do not see any reference to Firefox, and the Performance, and Processes seem OK. But it never seems to close the earlier Firefox, and won't let me open a new one. Any suggestions? Super Thanks for your help!

    Hi Andis.
    First of all, this is completely normal behavior, although it's a bit irritating, I know. What happens is that when you close Firefox, despite the window disappearing right there and then, Firefox keeps running for a little bit until the whole closing procedure is completed. This can take a fraction of a second on fast computers, or can take a few seconds on slow computers or when Firefox is storing a large session (if you save your tabs). All you have to do is wait a bit until Firefox closes, and then open it again.
    To see if it's still running, you can press CTRL+SHIFT+ESC and then, under the Processes tab, you can see if firefox.exe is still there. If it's taking an unusual amount of time to close (which happens very rarely, and only if the browser freezes on exit), you can force the application to terminate from this application (task manager).
    Firefox 4.0 will reduce by 97% the time it takes firefox.exe to close, so this problem will be basically erased for Firefox's next version.
    Until then, I can recommend you this extension, which helps you restart your browser more easily and without bothering about closing times:
    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/3559/
    Hopefully this will help.
