Firefox stalls whenever in Yahoo e-mail; Windows XP unable to shutdown

When I am in my Yahoo e-mail account, firefox stalls. The page does not budge. I have to close Firefox and when I try to restart, it says that Firefox is already running. I am also not able to shutdown the Windows.

I speak English. I am living in Chile and have a Dell/MS Windows Vista (English) laptop. I have Firefox 3.6.12. I have installed the Spanish (Mexico) dictionary. I right-click in a Yahoo e-mail window and select Languages - Spanish (Mexico) and start typing in Spanish, but it is not correcting my mistakes, or offering alternative spellings.
I don't know if I have the correct plug-in, correct settings, or am expecting something that isn't possible.

Do other dictionaries work if you select them in the Languages menu?

• How can I set Firefox to open a new e-mail window from a contact link in a web site in Gmail rather than in Microsoft Outlook?

When I click on a "Contact Us" e-mail link in a web site, Firefox opens the blank e-mail window in Microsoft Outlook. I rarely use that program any more; I use Gmail instead. Is there anyway I can change the settings in Firefox so that it will open a Gmail window instead?

• Firefox won't open Yahoo!Mail at ALL on my Mac, but Safari will?

I had problems with Firefox a few months back, and recently decided to try it out again, hoping whatever kinks it had had been fixed (not opening, freezing, crashing my Mac). Those problems have ceased, but now I have the new problem of not being able to open my Yahoo!Mail. I've tried using the url, AND going through the Yahoo! main site and clicking mail that way. No dice. What happened Firefox? You're making Safari look good, which, by the by, CAN still open my mail. Not looking forward to having two web browsers just to check my email.

As the previous poster mentioned you need when you install using the drivers Apple provides these are ONLY print drivers, you then need to download the most current scan, copier drivers from HP to be able to use that functionality. My recommendation is to:
System Preferences, Printers & Fax, highlight the 3210, click - sign, then click + sign and add back the 3210. Then you will have the most current print drivers.
Then go to hp.com, Support & Drivers, enter Photosmart 3210, click on OS X, download the HP Full Feature Software and Drivers (about 203 mb) and then install following HP's directions.
This should do it.

• Since installing Firefox I cannot send Yahoo pop mail from my Outlook

I have always used Outlook for my yahoo mail under the normal POP3 set up. For many months I have been using Outlook 2010 for my yahoo mail in this way. I just installed a Slingbox and Firefox to make that work. Now my Outgoing yahoo pop mail won't work yet my inbound does. All the SMTP settings are as prescribed by yahoo when trying manual set up, and Outlook 2010 cannot set up automatically either (as it was previously able to do). All advice gratefully received.

Try deleting and readding the account. Yahoo has been having issues for weeks. Sometimes it's them. Sometimes with the iOS6 upgrade you need to reenter account info.
Another workaround can be to access yahoo via safari and access your mail that way until it works out.

• Has a fix developed for Firefox 36 which BROKE Yahoo Toolbar in Windows 7 & 8 while Firefox 37 broke Yahoo Toolbar for Linux ?

Yahoo Toolbar (added from Firefox Add-ons) stopped working when I updated to Firefox 36 on both my Windows 7 & 8 computers so I RE-Installed Firefox 35 via a 3rd party download site. I didn't have the same problem on My Linux Computers until today when My Linux Computer UPDATED to Firefox 37. Now the only link which will show up on the Yahoo Toolbar is my "Mail" link.
It seems (based upon my research) that Mozilla is trying to sweep this screw-up under the carpet by blaming Yahoo, and yet they continue to display the link/add-on in their "Add-on Repository" ! Maybe Mozilla need to find a better Janitor cause the current one can't seem to See or even Smell the manure they're shoveling !
Don't get me wrong. I've been using Firefox & Yahoo Toolbar for 8+ years and been a fan of both, but I ditched Micro$oft Window$ because of Compatibility Issues within their own Software Programs. I would like to continue to use Firefox and Yahoo toolbar, But if they can't manage to work together and find a solution I WILL solve the problem by "Ditching Them Both" in favor of another provider and take all my current tech customers with me when I do. FYI, they number in the thousands.

Perhaps you do notice the "By Yahoo!" under the Yahoo Toolbar extension name.
It may not be obvious to everybody at first but the addons.mozilla.org is a hosting site for Extensions and also Themes (both image and complete), dictionaries, search engines etc.
The vast majority of Extensions being hosted on addons.mozilla.org are by a third-party author unless it says a author like Mozilla or Mozilla Labs.
Moderators here (unless they have Administrator tag also) are users like yourself who have been entrusted with moderator abilities.
No need to be rude as I certainly was not. Also mild rudeness does not get more attention in getting help but more likely to be ignored as volunteers spend whatever time they have to help others instead,

• After using my Firefox browser to access my Yahoo e-mail, I am unable to log off. Left clicking my mouse will not sign off. I have to shut off my computer to close my e-mail. How can I fix this?

I am unable to sign-off from my e-mail at Yahoo. Left clicking on the mouse doesn't close my e-mail.

Hi ampterson-
It could be that an Add-on is causing this problem. First, go to the Firefox button > Help > Restart with add-ons disabled. If that fixes the problem it means one of your Add-ons is the cause. See Troubleshooting extensions and themes for steps to figure out which one.

• Windows HPC - unable to shutdown nodes from Node Manager

I have a small Windows HPC Server 2008 R2 cluster that we purchased and asked for it to be a "Turn Key and Go" type deal, so we didn't configure it. The annoyance I am having is that I can't reboot or shutdown the compute nodes from the Node Management
window of the Head node. So when I need to do that, I have to remote desktop into each one (which for some reason take about 5 minutes from the head node,) and shut them down like that.
Does any one have ideas on where to start? I checked, all the firewalls have allowed File Sharing, which I saw some where needed to be on in order to do this.
When I ran "Shutdown-HpcNode" from HPCPowerShell, it gave me an error about bad username or password, so I think it might have some configuration problem.
(this was the first Windows HPC the vender had ever done, so their configuration settings might not have been perfect, but on the whole, this is a small problem to have.)
Thanks!

Hi,
Based on your description, this issue seems to be more related to Windows HPC Server 2008 R2. I suggest that
you should post this question in
Windows HPC Server Forum. I believe we will get a better assistance there.
There are some additional TechNet articles. These may be helpful.

• Firefox crashes whenever a Flash video advertisement opens in Yahoo! Mail. No virus detected. Incompatability?

Whenever I access Yahoo! Mail, the page opens normally. When the Flash Video advertisement starts, about halfway through or sooner, it stops and the entire window freezes. I wait up to two minutes and still nothing happens. I end up having to use Cntrl+Alt+Delete to force it to shut down. After repeating the process several times, I reinstall the most recent version of Adobe Flash Player and try again. No change. Virus scan shows green across the board. I don't know what to do at this point.

• Ince updating my firefox browser whenever i click on an internet link in an email it does not open on firefox although my mac switches to the firefox window as this is my default browser- what to do? Previously this has always worked without a hitch...

ince updating my firefox browser whenever i click on an internet link in an email it does not open on firefox athough my mac switches to the firefox window as i have this set to be my default browser- what should i do?

I have the same problem, and I also wondered if Google toolbar has anything to do with it. There GMAIL was set as the default mail application at first. I have removed that setting, but Firefox 4.0.1 continues to use GMAIL instead of Outlook which is my selection for mailto handling.

• Yahoo! Mail no longer loads emails and the ads are missing after having cleared Firefox's cookies, history, and cache.

Ironically, I made this support account just to ask this question and had to go to IE to verify.
Anyway, Yahoo! Mail use to work almost flawlessly before a couple days ago. Basically, the page loads like normal when I have a good connection except that the ads on the sides are missing, my profile picture is gone, the "fancy" rounded edges of the buttons are nonexistent, none of the menus work or open anything, and all of the links are useless. I have been searching for solutions for two hours now and none of them are relevant or useful:
- Clear cookies = when I cleared cookies, cache and history is when the problem first started;
- Disable Ghostery = I just learned about it today and so never installed it, but I also checked to make sure it wasn't there somehow;
- Start in Safe Mode = the problem is still there and the only change was that it loaded the page faster;
- Disable AVG = I can't because I can't find it anywhere...;
- Disable Security/Change Permissions? = I think this was a suggested solution, but it already allows Yahoo! Mail to load images and set cookies while blocking pop-ups, location sharing, and installing themes/extensions;
- Update Firefox = No. I like my old version. I keep hearing weird and annoying things about updated versions of Firefox, and I'm not going to risk losing everything else just to get Yahoo! Mail back
I started using Firefox (3.6.12) because IE was slow, but ever since I tried clearing the cache, cookies and history Firefox has been going slower. Oddly enough, all of my browsing history was not deleted because certain web pages (that I haven't accessed in ages) show up in the address bar when I go to type. Gmail works in Firefox despite saying my browser isn't supported, but Yahoo! never bothers me about my browsers and now its acting strange.
By the way, I don't know if this has anything to do with it, but right before Yahoo! Mail took the usability train off a cliff, it reloaded (because clearing the cookies logged me out), then told me the internet connection was slow and that I can switch to Basic for better results. I decided to stick with Classic and then it "crashed".
Anyone help with this would be appreciated. One of the reasons I switched to FF is because Yahoo! Mail was faster on it, and I'd hate to have to go back to IE...
Thanks in advance!

As it turns out, many others have been having similar issues on other browsers. It seems that maybe Yahoo! is taking a much longer time to load or something like that. Either way, its been working on and off all week, and the same issue even showed up yesterday with IE 8 instead of FF. It still loads faster than IE 8, but again is spotty. Some people think the issue may be with mail.yimg.com or s.yimg.com, which I could see was the loading url in the left corner whenever Yahoo! Mail was refusing to work. A couple of people said blocking it caused the issue. Alternatively, some people suggested blocking it to solve the problem. Does anyone have any information on that? Again, I have no add-ons that would be blocking any urls, and my firewall hasn't any records of it. I really don't want to do anything to mess up my browsers more than they may have already been. Thanks for all of your help so far!

• Tabs in Yahoo premium mail no longer work with Firefox 37.

In Yahoo mail premium-add free I can no longer access or close tabs. Messages open in tabs, tabs persist but I need to exit mail to close them. I can get back to In box and other categories but not the tabs. I figured it was Yahoo until I noticed the functions work with Chrome. Note: The free yahoo does not have multiple tabs and appears to be working normally. Regards

Make sure that this also does not happen in Safe Mode:
Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that temporarily turns off hardware acceleration, resets some settings, and disables add-ons (extensions and themes).
If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu:
* Click the menu button , click Help and select Restart with Add-ons Disabled.
If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:
* On Windows: Hold the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
* On Mac: Hold the option key while starting Firefox.
* On Linux: Quit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run firefox -safe-mode <br>(you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)
When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "Start in Safe Mode".

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, theme, or hardware acceleration. After opening my yahoo mail window, I keep getting a very short and narrow dialogue box with the words "log into Xmarks" I cannot ... when it pops up, always upper left of my laptop screen and I try to get into my yahoo mail web page, I get a DING sound and cannot enter it ... everything is frozen. I have to hit CNTRL + ALT + ESC to get rid of it - and then reload my Firefox browser to get back to my yahoo e-mail page ... fortunately for me, Firefox re-stores a previous session ... How can I get rid of this intrusive thing, and what is it? Thanks in advance ... Ted Beaudoin, Welland, ON, Canada

• Is Firefox compatible with the latest version of Yahoo e-mail

Dear Madam/Sir,
I am having problems using Firefox to access my e-mail on the latest version of Yahoo. A window states that Yahoo is working slow and if I would like to go back to the basic version? When I click of it, the screen freezes. It works fine with Google Chrome. Other that to give up Firefox, is there any solution?
Regards. Hussan.

Hey yrram,
There are a lot of benefits to running the latest version of Firefox. You might want to consider running the older version on a USB Stick with PortableApps. That way you'll still be able to run the latest version for your day to day activities. You could also try the workaround in this article.
If you still want to roll back to a previous version of Firefox, just take a look at the Knowledge Base article Installing a previous version of Firefox.
Hopefully this helps!

• Firefox can get onto yahoo however whenever I use the search function is says link is broken. Equally cannot access google either. Thanks

The connection has timed out
The server at uk.search.yahoo.com is taking too long to respond.
Firstly I have had to changed my home page because google will not load. Then I can get access into yahoo itself, mail etc but cannot get any of the search engines to function. All other websites ok apart from when trying to do searches!
The yahoo search shows the following message or it indicates that the connection has broken. Tested internet connection and all ok!
Any advice appreciated.

* If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure
that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.
