Firefox sync fails

"Sync encountered an error while syncing: firefox sync server maintenance is underway, syncing will resume automatically. sync will automatically retry this action"
if i click on server status then it says
" There are no known problems at this time.
If you're having problems with Mozilla Services infrastructure, please contact us via Twitter, or follow these troubleshooting instructions. "
this is the error what i get when i try to sync at office. it all started after reinstalling firefox 3 days ago.
i have tried loging out of the home PC and relogin.
i have tried disconnect, login several times on both office and home PC.
office PC is the place where i have a problem.
[IT IS ALSO VERY PAINFUL TO HAVE A SEPARATE ACCOUNT FOR ADDONS MOZILLA, MOZILLA SUPPORT, MOZILLA FIREFOX SYNC, CANT YOU HAVE ONE ACCOUNT FOR ALL? its too much...]

It is possible to save passwords in your sync account, and I agree that it is confusing to have old pages that were used by the old sync services to not have notifications when there were errors. We are working on improving this, an we apologize for the inconvenience.

  • Firefox sync fails while syncing passwords

    Hi all,
I have this problem on all but one of my computers.
Firefox sync constantly nags about "Error while syncing" and gives further details "sync encountered an error while syncing: unknown error."
    When I check about:sync-log I see:
    "2011-01-14 10:59:33 Service.Main DEBUG passwords failed: NS_ERROR_XPC_JS_THREW_STRING JS Stack trace: Channel_onStopRequest([object XPCWrappedNative_NoHelper],null,2153185310)@resource.js:438 < Res__request(...)@resource.js:357 < Res_get()@resource.js:376 < SyncEngine__processIncoming()@engines.js:511 < ()@engines.js:203 < SyncEngine__sync()@engines.js:768 < ()@engines.js:203 < WrappedNotify()@util.js:147 < Engine_sync()@engines.js:213 < WeaveSvc__syncEngine([object Object])@service.js:1738 < ()@service.js:1624 < WrappedNotify()@util.js:147 < WrappedLock()@util.js:119 < WrappedCatch()@util.js:97 < sync()@service.js:1529 < (22)@sync.js:380"
All other engines seem to work (passwords, tabs...) but passwords.
I have tried resetting sync to no avail
I have tried "stop using this account" and set up sync again using same account to no avail.
I have this same issue on 64bit Win7 with Firefox 4b8 and sync version 1.6.1 and 32bit WinXP with Firefox 3.6.13 and sync version 1.6.1
The computer that has sync running with no errors is 32bit WinXP with Firefox 4b8 with sync version 1.6.1
Some of the passwords seem to sync, as when after I have tried resetting sync I have 76 saved passwords and on other computer there are over 300 saved passwords.
It would be nice to be able to use sync yet again and be able to believe it is doing its work reliably!

Seems to be a common bug. Post and vote for the bug fix on bugzilla.

hello vo_z, the log shows that the issue is occurring particularly during syncing your history - can you try to exempt it from being synced in the sync-preferences and see if the error bar is still showing up...

For the past week or so I've been getting an error bar at the bottom of Firefox stating "Sync encountered an error while syncing: Unknown error. Sync will automatically retry this action." • Can't reconnect to sync from work - firefox login fails with "Incorrect password" when I know it is correct

I can happily connect my home computers and phone to sync and I have confirmed they sync between themselves. However, my work computer has recently stopped being able to sync where it has previously been fine for well over a year. I am on the latest version of sync and Firefox 35.0.1 (both at home and work).
When I try to reconnect to sync I am directed to the "Sign in to continue" page. It has my correct email address/account name. I enter my password (clicking "Show" to make sure it's correct) but then it always fails with "Incorrect password" in a red banner at the top. I have checked the password is correct and logged out and back in from home using the same password so I know that is correct. I have tried this logged in to work via remote desktop so I could do both at the same time to make sure there isn't just a prevailing sync server problem.
Obviously my work computer is behind a proxy/firewall. I have recently had to add a new certificate as a result of proxy changes to get internet connectivity working. Anecdotally, I think sync stopped working at a similar time - but it's always easy to remember these things differently when you're looking for a solution. So this could be a red herring.
Your help in getting this fixed would be much appreciated!

    Thanks for your reply.
i've deleted all cookies, although I don't really understand how that relates. I have also spoken to our sysadmin who says we don't block access to firefox accounts per se, we do block all file-esque uploads. However, I am not sure this would make any difference to the exact problem I am seeing which is that I can't sign in to my firefox sync account. But maybe signing in to this account is different to a "normal" account - maybe there is more of a two way handshake which relies on sending some encrypted data which appears to our proxy like a file being uploaded out of the company.
I got a slightly different error on my latest clear down and retry, in that the sign in just waited forever (overnight) without success.
    Any further help gratefully received...

  • Firefox Sync custom server fails - invalid HTTPS certificate

    Windows XP SP3, Firefox 3.6.8.
Using a custom Sync server, the Weave minimal server written by Toby Elliot. Firefox Sync 1.4.4 extension is crapping out at the setup stage.
I've got a self-signed SSL certificate behind my web server, since it's for my personal use. I have the Sync extension on a couple of other Firefox installations, grandfathered through a few versions since Weave. Those extensions work and I can sync, no problem.
So the problem is not with my server itself, or with my username, or with my password. As I said, all three work fine with other Firefox installs.
This new setup process won't let me get past the "invalid HTTPS cert" error. Must I sign my cert with a certificate authority of my own, or will even that be marked as invalid?
    Any guidance would be appreciated.

This can be fixed by browsing to the site and accepting the cert first but on my HTC incredible the buttons are off the screen and I can't scroll to them.....MOZILLA Please help!
Thanks and keep up the good work,
    Peter

  • I deleted my Firefox Sync account at one point, but would like to create a new one using the same email address. Is this possible?

I had a Firefox Sync account a while back on an email address and then I deleted it. Now I want to use Firefox Sync again. I had forgotten that I deleted my account, but after trying to send password reset emails to that address and failing to receive them I can only conclude that the email is still on record in Firefox Sync, even if the account has been deleted.
Is it possible for me to set up a new account using this email address? Trying to set it up through Firefox tells me that the email address is in use, when from my point of view it is not.

Strangely enough, sending the email from account.services.mozilla.com did the trick this time! Thanks.

  • Cannot set up Firefox sync on desktop - no recovery key and will not let me login to get it

I downloaded Firefox for my new android phone and wanted to sync my desktop with the mobile app. When I first went in it said I had an account already set up, but since I didn't remember any of the information about it I just ended up changing the password so I could login, and then deleted the whole account.
I went ahead and set up a new sync account, but it never gave me a recovery key. I didn't think anything of it, but then the initial sync failed and I got an error message saying the username or password was incorrect.
This happened twice and each time I went back and either ended up resetting the password or deleting the whole account. But whenever I did go through the steps of creating another account it still never gave me a recovery key.
I looked around and tried following the steps to get a recovery key, but I don't have the option to manage my account (maybe because one was never fully created and never went through an initial sync?), and I keep getting an error message saying the username and password is incorrect whenever I try to go through the steps to reset the recovery key. This is despite the fact that I can login with those same credentials on the Firefox sync webpage - for whatever reason it just doesn't accept them in the normal browser sync tab.
I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium, and version 13.0.1 of Firefox. Any help you can give me would be most appreciated as this has been driving me nuts for the last several hours as I try to work through this.

  • Firefox Sync is the most infuriating thing ever, how has it lasted this long like this?

I'm sorry if this comes across as more of a rant than a query, but I am absolutely disgusted with how incredibly difficult it is to get Firefox Sync working properly (or perhaps how easy it is to break it).
I opened a previous support thread @ https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/983868 but I was unable to get any advice that seemed to change anything.
I have tried 2-3 more times on the latest Firefox (27 I believe) with new profiles, clearing my sync data, and every possible combination inbetween, and I can never get my devices to sync reliably past, even the "First sync" progress bar fails while adding devices #2, 3, etc.
I got so desperate that I decided to try Nightly's new Sync (Firefox 30), hoping that things would have improved without the need for a Sync key (since I was confusingly getting sync key errors, despite entering it manually). Low and behold it STILL does the same thing, except that now I'm provided with an even more transparent service. I am unable to view my data quota, and Firefox doesn't even ask me for my master password now when I hit sync. That, and it's STILL complaining about the lack of a recovery key, when there is no such thing as a recovery key anymore, what the heck?!
In the course of a few hours I have created dozens of error logs, and this is all by trying to use just 1 Desktop installation and 1 mobile installation. I have probably approached burning over 20 hours trying to get Firefox Sync to work, and it's apparent that the feature is just flat out broken.
Even with all of the errors, some things sync properly like Tabs and occasionally preferences, but other things like history, bookmarks, and add-ons never work after the initial sync (or even during the initial sync). It seems though that the further away I get from the initial sync point, the less reliably these features work.
This may fall on deaf ears, but I thought I'd reach out for help one last time to see if anyone can help, or perhaps point me to a place where I can receive more technical support. If anyone is able to help, it would be greatly appreciated. My logs can be found here
    Firefox 27: https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B4KtJAZ-pKFqZkMyZ3R5MTVRWFE&usp=drive_web
    Firefox 30: https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B4KtJAZ-pKFqWXFtb3Y2ZWxiQ1U&usp=drive_web

I'm not exactly sure if that's a statement or a question, but it doesn't really pertain to my predicament.
I created an entirely new Sync account with brand new Nightly profiles, the only thing I brought over was my places.sqlite file, as I could not transport my history via any other means (passwords, bookmarks, add-ons, etc I all did via other methods).
The initial sync usually works, but after that things just don't seem to work correctly.
I also ran into another problem in that I cannot delete my sync data via
    * https://account.services.mozilla.com/
I also tried deleting the account, which kind of seemed to work as I was no longer able to log in via the above website; however when I tried to create a new Sync account with the same e-mail address, it said an account already existed. I tried logging in to my deleted Sync account via Nightly, and it logged in as if it was never deleted.

OK, manually browsing addons.mozilla.org, I found out there's a Firefox Sync 1.6.2 update that won't automatically install with F4B10, but that seems to resolve this issue.

  • Firefox sync

Sync is not working correctly for me.
    1. Installed FF on my PC - no bookmarks yet
    2. Installed FF on my tablet - no bookmarks yet
    3. Setup FF sync on my PC and and accessed my sync account via the web. I cleared the sync data.
    4. I then enabled sync on my tablet and received a boat load of old bookmarks which I cannot get rid of.
Why am I getting these bookmarks? There should be no sync data. I cannot select these bookmarks all at once on my tablet and delete them. There's no multi-select for bookmarks. I cannot get rid of these bookmarks. I tried recreating my sync account and I'm still getting them. I don't get them on my desktop. I would have thought that recreating my sync account would have cleared everything. Obviously deleting your account doesn't really delete it.
Does anyone know how to get the syncing to work correctly?
    Thanks.

    Hi Jason,
It sounds like one of these three things is happening. I don't know exactly how you're setting up Sync, or exactly what you mean by "recreate my sync account", so forgive the imprecision.
    # You still have a device alive somewhere that's connected to your Sync account. If it's still loaded up with bookmarks, it'll sync them back up if you wipe the server.
    # The server wipe via the Account Portal is failing. That's not unexpected.
    # One of the devices you're connecting has your bookmarks on it already.
Rather than trying to figure out exactly what's going on, I recommend doing the following:
    # Connect your desktop to Sync. Make sure your bookmarks are correct, deleting them from the UI as necessary. Go to Preferences and choose Sync > Manage > Reset Sync > "Replace all other devices".
    # Open Android Settings on your tablet. Find Apps, Firefox, tap it, choose Clear Data.
    # Also in Settings, find your Firefox Sync account under "Accounts & sync", and remove it.
    # Set up Sync again on your tablet.
Let me know how you get on!

  • What are pros/cons of using xmarks vs. firefox sync?

Used Firefox for a long while. Bookmarks morphed to Xmarks, which in turn has been acquired twice. I continue to use the newer Xmarks. In process of setting up a new computer, found that Firefox has it's own bookmarks sync.
Like to keep things as simple as possible. Does Firefox sync do all that Xmarks does? What are pros/cons of using xmarks vs. firefox sync?

I am not in a business environment, just my home. So, I don't know your specific requirements. I operate a dual G5 xserve, a dual quad-core mac pro, 6+ Apple MacOSX computers of varying types and several other linux servers plus a couple of Windows machines. If it were me, I would get two mac pro's running MacOSX Server and use one for backup of the other. The xserve RAID is too expensive from my point of view. I copy data from the xserve to several MacOSX computers with firewire drives for my backup and I have every computer on a ups. (I am assuming that they will not all fail at once!
I run Tiger servers and would suggest that you significantly test Leopard before committing to it.
    Hope that helps.

  • Why doesn't Firefox Sync work in my home network, but at work?

Firefox Sync on my laptop does not work when my laptop is connected to my home network, but e.g. if I'm at my office.
The internet connection at my home is fine, I can surf the web with that very Firefox on both IPv4 and IPv6, DNS etc. is also working. Logging in to accounts.firefox.com also works, as does connecting Firefox to the Sync account. Only the process of syncing itself fails. On my desktop computer at home, I have exactly the same problems. When I open https://sync-209-us-west-2.sync.services.mozilla.com/ in a browser tab, I see a confirmation message that sync runs on that server, so apparently the network path between my computer and that server is free.
Upon investigation with Wireshark, I see the successful TLS handshake, then some packets from the client that are not answered and after some time the server closes the connection (Encrypted Alert). Apparently, no content is transferred between client and server. I attach a screenshot of how Wireshark sees the conversation between server and client (The image upload here didn't work so I put it on the web: http://ibin.co/1zXABHKdj5mA).
To exclude a possible misconfiguration or bad add-on, I created a clean new Firefox profile and connected it to my Firefox account, but this shows exactly the same problems.
Fun fact: Firefox on my Android phone does sync in my home network.
Below, I will link two log files, one successful sync (office network) and one failed sync (home network):
    Sync @ office: http://pastebin.com/rZmfrbdL
    Sync @ home: http://pastebin.com/a3KUCevJ

Any chance you are on a DS-Lite network at home? If so, what's your ISP? The home network symptoms look a little like https://bugzil.la/1118958

  • Firefox Sync iOS 7

Is there any internet browser app supporting the basic feature of Firefox Sync (reading and writing bookmarks) in iOS 7? 'Bookmarks' and '360' browser are read only, 'Mercury' claims to do it up to version 7.x but fails with any version up from 5 on my iPhone4 / iOS 7. I got Mercury syncing with Firefox Sync on my iPad I / iOS 5.1.1
Everything else seems to use third services to sync with Firefox Sync, but i want to sync straight to Firefox Sync.
    Thank you Achim

some more testing - Mercury 7.4 is obviously working with newly in Mercury created folders and bookmarks. They get synced to Firefox Sync and stuff i put into these folders on another computer are synced to the iPhone. So it seemes that Mercury is not able to read folders which are not created by itself? A permissions problem?
