FireWire Automatic IP Problem

A few months ago, my Mac Mini stopped getting an automatic IP address on its FireWire port. I could still get to it with a static IP, so it wasn't too big of a deal. Now I am starting to experience difficulty accessing it with the static IP configuration. I have completely reloaded the system from the recovery CDs in case it was a software problem, but it is not. I am planning to take the machine to the store for warranty repair, but I was curious to see if anyone out there had any other suggestions!

Try letting things negotiate again for everything.
Once that is done - post the netstat -rn results for both computers (start Terminal app - in the utilities folder) and we'll see what can be done...

Using Logic 7 with Alesis Multimix8 Firewire...problem

I'm running Logic 7 on my 2GHz Macbook (White) with Snow Leopard 10.6 and an Alesis Mutlimix 8 Firewire. The problem I'm having is that I can't seem to get the playback or output to come back through the Interface. I have done all the normal things of checking the audio midi setup (both in utilities and in Logic itself) but to no avail. The signal is definitely getting from the Multimix to the computer as I can record things, but I don't seem to be getting anything coming back. I tried doing the same in thing in Garageband but got the same outcome, which makes me think its not something in Logic that I'm doing wrong. in GB, I even set the output to the built-in out put, at which point I was able to hear playback through the speakers. I've been through the logic manual and the mutlimix one but can't find anything that helps - I do everything they suggest but get nothing. Any help?!

I am in front of an Alesis board now. If you have your monitors connected to the Main Outs, then the 2TK TO MIX Button must be depressed, and the Main Mix fader will control the level of playback.
If you have your monitors connected to the CTRL RM OUT, then only the 2 TK button should be depressed, and the Headphone/Control Rm Knob will control the level of playback.
Hope this is the problem, and it works. The nice thing about this setup is you can connect two sets of monitors and mix with either signal and quickly move between the two.
Also, I'm assuming you've updated to the latest drivers and firmware on the Alesis site. I think they've stopped updating, but if you installed a driver from a disk, I'm pretty sure it will be older than what you can download.

Bluetooth automatic on problem

I have the same issue, after a use Bluetooth, and turn it off, it will turn on later automatically.
I can only surpass it by rebooting

M-Audio Firewire 410 soundcard problem on Windows on new iMac

I've had this problem since I got the new iMac. When running Windows natively, with all Boot Camp 2.0 (same with the older Boot Camp) drivers installed and the latest drivers for my M-Audio Firewire 410 for Windows XP Pro, I haven't been able to use the sound card at all. Everything installs perfectly, the control panel works, but the hardware won't respond to any sound playback. I'm not sure if it's the Boot Camp drivers for my iMac or if it's my interface. It worked fine through Boot Camp with my MacBook Pro, but not the new Aluminum iMac. Using it with Ableton Live 6/7 fails. Playing it from iTunes fails. Everything fails. My interface is basically rendered useless on Windows. I believe it's an iMac + Boot Camp problem, not the interface. Audio program forums didn't help, so I cam here. Hope someone can help. Thanks!

M-Audio does not support Boot Camp on Intel based Macs at this time.
The problem is that there is no BIOS on Mac Intel systems and getting devices to work on some XP systems requires BIOS/OS tweaks. Boot Camp works around the need for BIOS; Windows does not. Windows installations are not always consistent and the fact it works on one Intel Mac does not mean it will work on another.
Attempting to install any M-Audio device or drivers in Boot Camp is done solely at the user’s own risk.
Here is a website that has many troubleshooting tips that can help get devices to work on XP and MAY work for Boot Camp; however this is all done at the users own risk.

For M-Audio FireWire devices:
Switching from Mac to PC the FireWire device may not always load the firmware properly. To get the PC firmware to load you may have to boot into XP then shut down, disconnect, reconnect and reboot. Switching from PC to Mac automatically loads the correct firmware.
If this workaround does not fix your issue, you will have to run the device solely on Mac OS or on Windows hardware.

External Firewire Hard Drive Problem

I have an external Maxtor FW 400 drive with two partitions that I've been using for backups. I've been using it with my iMac. Last night I kept having to force-quit different apps and finally decided to restart. My computer wouldn't shut down all the way and I had to finally use the power button. When I tried to start back up, I couldn't get past the grey screen. I kept having to use the power button to shut down. I disconnected everything but keyboard and mouse and did the reset SMC. I've zapped the PRAM. I couldn't get the disk to mount at all on my iMac. I used the disk utility on the iMac and 4-5 things came up when it did the verify/repair disk. I also did the hardware test and no problems were found.
I decided to try it with my MBP and finally one partition mounted, but the other didn't. I tried the disk utillity and get errors when I try to verify and repair. I was able to copy some of the files from the partition that mounted onto another drive, but some of the folders are giving me an error.
I've read some about DiskWarrior. Is that something that might help to repair the disk so I can at least get the files off? I have a copy of Tech Tool Deluxe that I got with AppleCare for an iMac G5, but don't know if that would help or not. Haven't been able to get it to work though. When I try to start up from the CD, I'm pressing C as I start up but it's not doing the CD. I know the version on the CD isn't for Leopard, so that might be why it's not starting up from CD? Does anyone have any suggestions about what might help?
Also, I guess I may have to purchase another external hard drive. This was a Maxtor about 5 years old. I've had a WD My Book USB also go bad on me, so I've stayed away from those. I have a SimpleTech USB that seems okay so far. I use a Time Capsule for my Time Machine backup. But, I'm creating a lot of video and photo projects so I have some really large projects and fill up a drive fast. They're too big to fit on a DVD. You need backups of your backups. How do y'all manage you big projects?

The copy Tech Tool Deluxe will boot your iMac G5, but it probably will not boot the MacBook Pro (because it is Intel and that old disc is probably for PowerPC). So if you want to use it, you will have to use the iMac G5 to boot it. It does have a volume repair function.
Disk Warrior, and the complete Tech Tool Pro, as well as Drive Genius (from Prosoft), are all utilities that can do repairs beyond the capabilities of Disk Utility.
For external drives, I tend to buy an external enclosure that I like and then look for a good deal on a hard drive to put inside it. I usually buy the enclosure from a company that is focused on Mac users, such as OWC (macsales.com) and Macally. They (and others) sell empty cases. At this point, I would buy a case that has both USB 2.0 and FireWire connections. As for the hard drive itself, I like using dealmac.com for links to great deals.
I recently had a need for a large amount of extra storage to use with Time Machine. The cheapest way I could find to add the space I needed was to get 750 GB Western Digital Green SATA drive ($70 deal found through DealMac) and connect it to USB 2.0 using one of these adapters.

I know I'm wasting the speed capability of a new SATA drive, but USB 2.0 is fast enough for using with Time Machine. It just sits as a bare drive next to my iMac and my FireWire external drive. Because the "green" drive is probably operating at a slower speed, it makes almost no sound and barely gets warm.
At MacWorld this year, OWC's booth was showing off this device called +Voyager Q+.

With it, you plug in regular bare SATA hard drive mechanisms like those old Iomega cartridge drives. If you are regularly running short of storage space, you might consider this type of solution as a way to have essentially unlimited storage without the need to have a clutter of external drives, each with its own cable, power cord, and power supply. Just have a safe place to store your archive of SATA hard drives and plug them in as needed.

Firewire Drive/Camcorder Problems with FCP

I seem to have a recurring problem connecting a DV camcorder and a firewire hard drive simultaneously. Most recently I was trying to set up FCP to output to a camcorder I had connected - and during the configuration, my hard drive (a western digital MyBook) un-mounted while FC was running. I couldn't get it back for awhile and thought I'd lost my client's project and all the rest I had on that drive. Luckily it returned. But I've had this problem in the past with Avid system on a PC, in that case a Seagate drive...it makes me think I'm doing something wrong here. I'm not the savviest when it comes to technical issues with hardware & such, I really just want to edit.
Also, twice within the year my logic board on my powerbook g4 has been replaced due to a bad firewire, another issue that happened in mid-project. I don't know if the camera did it, or the drive. The tech at Apple said I hadn't done anything to cause it...but it happened twice.
I guess what I'm asking is, is there a method or a sequence for connecting a deck or camera to my system when working with external firewire drives? Are these issues with the hard drive manufacturer, my system, or my own error? Are there any major DO's and DONT's in this area and what am I doing wrong?

So, from what I understand...supposing nothing external is connected to my machine...power down, plug in my firewire drive and the camera, then power up, then run FCP? At what point do I turn the camera on, while the computer is still off?
I'm sorry I'm not sure I understand the BUS concept? As of now I'm using the rear fw400 port for a hard drive and the front for the camera.

DVD DL fail to burn AND Firewire 400/800 problems

I have had several months of intermittent DVD burn fails. Most recently today burning from the finder and it is now reporting "The disc can’t be burned because because communication between the computer and the disc drive failed (error code 0x80020022)."

The first time this cropped up was on 10.5.x and when I reported it to apple they had me take it to get the drive replaced since it was still covered by applecare.
After the DVD replacement and while still in the shop it burned a few DVD DLs ok. A few weeks later the same 0x03 errors. (it always burns CDs just fine)
After another phone conversation with applecare, they now suggest that the logic board needs to be replaced. (This was after I mentioned I frequently have problems with Firewire 400 or 800 external drives showing up...sometimes they work sometimes they don't. The same drives always show up when connected via USB)
I was walked through resetting the PRAM, which cleared up the Firewire 400/800 temporarily, but it did not help the DVD burn problem.
So on the eve before the appointment, this crazy MBP (2,2, 2.33 ghz) burns a DVD DL after blowing compressed air thru the DVD slot. But the second DVD DL fails to burn with the ""The disc can’t be burned because because communication between the computer and the disc drive failed (error code 0x80020022)."
I was hoping that the upgrade to 10.6.x would solve both issues, but not so much.
Anyone else with the DVD DL problem experiencing FW problems?

The problems with some external FW burners under SL are fairly common, Robert. With some earlier drives (like my Pioneer 109 in an external box) often one can't even "see" the drive at all (though the bridge in the external box will show up under System Profiler) through FW, though it works fine under USB. With some later ones things like PRAM resets, or simply disconnecting and reconnecting the drive, will get them working. As far as the general disc burning issue goes, other things that are worth considering include problems with a "fullish" hard drive with fragmented free space, and the actual media being used. What brands of DVD have you tried?
DL discs, generally seem much more finicky about dust and dirt than single layer when it comes to burning (and , of course, need much more free HD space) . Will it burn a single layer DVD or a CD without problems?

Hello Leila and welcome to the Palm forums.
This is likely an error message from the My Centro application of the Palm Software (store) application. The problem is that one or both of these applications is waking up while you're asleep and trying to check for content updates (not really needed in my opinion) and the Internet connection on your phone is currently closed.
I don't use either of these applications on my Treo 755p (My Centro is called My Treo). If you launch these apps on your Centro, and then press the Menu button on your keyboard you should be be able to access the menu item that controls software updates and turn off the updates.
Other applications on your Centro may also be looking to check for updates. I would also check Pocket Tunes (pTunes) to see if it is looking for updates also.

Automatic shutdown problem

I have a problem with my HP Pavilion tx 2000
Over the last couple weeks, my computer has been automatically shutting down when I am using a high amount of cpu energy. For example, when I am watching a movie or streaming something or opening and printing pdf documents.
Do you have a recommendation on what I can do to disable this auto shutdown and if not, please let me know what my problem might be.

It needs to shut itself down to protect its components when getting hot. Please don't try to stop it, make it runs cooler is the way to go. These tips may help.

Automatic import problem

Can someone tell me what I may be doing wrong. When I place a CD in my CD player it boots it to iTunes, names the songs and checks the songs. Howeverl, to import the songs I have to import the songs individually from the CD. Is there any way that I can place the CD in the CD player and automatically do the entire importing?

(i found this saves so much time during the first big CD-importing sessions with itunes, although i switched back to "show songs" once i'd finished with that.)

Firewire 400/800 problem

Hi all,
I just bought a new MacBook Pro 15" 2.2GHz. I have been happily using my Firewire 800 on a Mirrored Raid drive that is partitioned into two drives: one for backup, one for media. When I plug my DV video camera into my FW400 port, nothing happens -- it doesn't appear in my System Profiler, iMovie, Final Cut Express, etc. Tried restarting all devices and finally found a fix: disconnect my FW800 drive. When I do that and then try to remount my external drive on the 800 channel, it won't go until I disconnect my camera. I tried daisy chaining my camera off one of the FW400 ports on the back of the drive: this doesn't work either -- the camera never mounts but the drive continues to function.
What is going on? Any thoughts?

Firewire cameras don't "mount". They need to be explicitly opened by an application, and even then they don't appear on the desktop.
To use a camera via iLink (FireWire for DV), a few things need to be done. First, make sure that the camera is a DV or DVCPRO camera. Neither FinalCut not iMovie will work with it otherwise (though the newer iMovie adds AVCHD support) . Second, the camera cannot be daisy-chained -- it must be a direct connection. The daisy-chain config it might work some but will be unreliable (it looses track of the timecode under Mac OS X; Linux on the same hardware doesn't seem to have the problem). Next, max sure that the camera is turned on and in its VTR mode. Depending on the model, this might involve changing a couple of settings on the camera and moving a switch or dial to "VCR" or "Playback".
After all of those conditions are met, start the editing application. With iMovie, you should be ready to go. If using FinalCut Express, make sure that you have it configured to use the correct FireWire profile for your camera.

Can't change /etc/oratab file or automatic startup problem on linux!!!

I have installed an Oracle 11.2.0.1 on Oracle Linux Server 5.11(Virtualbox). I have the users grid and oracle11g. Add groups and install grid infrastructure first as a grid user and install database as oracle user as in documentation successfully.
I have following users and groups as

When I edit /etc/oratab file; change N to Y for +ASM and restart the system, then it seems value N is not changed to Y. But changed for database as shown below.

QUESTIONS!!!!!
1. When I edit /etc/oratab file manually why second row saved (changed N to Y manually) but the first row become unsaved (although changed N to Y) again after restarting the system?
2. After restarting the system database and ASM started automatically, although the line is not changed to Y above (in oratab file) for ASM. What is the reason and how can I change to Y? Or if I have to change the N to Y or not?
3. Is it enough to edit N to Y in oratab file for ASM and database to start ASM and database automatically? I think there will be some other scripts have to be created in /etc/init.d/ directory for automatic startup.
PLEASE HELP ME TO UNDERSTAND THIS PROBLEM CLEARLY!!!!

It is meaningful and perhaps it is the exact reason or solution.
Question is that, why I can't edit oratab file manually for ASM row? ' Not need ' and ' can't ' is different!!

Automatic reset problem (Palm Centro)

Recently, my phone begins to have a new problem.
When I use the phone, it automatically resets if I touch the screen during the conversation.
It disrupt my conversation.
I had done hard reset; but, the problem came up again.
What can I do?

Did the problem immediately return when you finished the Hard Reset, or after doing a HotSync? If the latter, then the problem is software-related and saved on your computer.
Did the phone get damaged in any way? Get wet?
Here's my normal help file for clearing out reset problems:
As with most problems that occur on a Palm phone or PDA, it is either software or hardware related and we have to determine which one.
Best method is to first make a complete backup of your unit to your SD card using the free "NVBackup" (available from http://www.freewarepalm.com) After the backup is complete, Hard Reset the unit, then test to see if full functionality returns.
Perform a Hard Reset as described in this Palm KB article: http://kb.palm.com/wps/portal/kb/common/article/45050_en.html
DO NOT HOTSYNC YET! Test the unit before reinstalling any software. If the unit works correctly, your problem is being caused by a "drug interaction" of software - maybe one rogue program, or a combination of several. You'll have to reinstall the third-party programs one or a few at a time to find the problem one. To avoid re-installing a software issue, rename your /Backup directory in your Palm folder (on a PC it's found here: C/Program Files/Palm(One)/"your HotSync ID name truncated"/Backup) to something like "/BackupOLD". Now perform the HotSync, choose your HotSync name you've been using, and all your PIM data will return, but not the third-party programs. Test for functionality again. If all is good, start installing the old programs from your /BackupOLD directory one (or a few if brave) at a time.
If the unit does not work after a Hard Reset is performed correctly, then it may be Hardware-related. (If it's a connection problem via either BlueTooth or Wifi, be sure nothing has changed on the unit you're trying to connect to!)

Automatic clearing problem

Dear All:
I am facing problem while excecuting Automatic clearing for GIR/IR Account. In F-03 i can see open item standing in GLs related to GRIR Accounts but when i run automatic clearing for them it picks up all open items and clears nothing except few. What can be the possible reason. Is there any alternative T CODE for GRIR Clearing. P

Check the automatic clearing rules maintained in SPRO.
Ensure all the postings are done through MM and FI. If there is any manual postings then system wont clear those. For this you have clear those open items manually through F-03.(remove post automatically in FS00)
The clearing rule should be purchase document, Purchase oder item and wrbtr(amount).
In F.13 there is one option called GRIR account special prcess. Check with that option once.
Revert back still problem not resolved.

Automatic Payment problem

Hi,
i've this problem with Sap B1 2005A SP1 patch 45 Automatic payment:
i want to print by PLD pax 6 of 9: if i see system information, in automatic payment row i see that Total is associated to variable 66 and balance expiring to variable 67.
However if i use this variable in pld the system don't print anything, the system uses respectively variable 209 and variables 213 to print this information, can anyone explain why this. thanks a lot

Check you currency type. Local currency and foreign currency amount are held in different system variables.
You may use 2 templates or a complicate formula to accommodate them in one template.
