Fireworks CS3 in Windows 7
Hi
My Firworks CS3 installed all great and its mainly fine, but when I go to use any tool such as eraser and blurr etc where the cursor is not the standard mouse it is laggy, I believe this is due to the way fireworks is rendering the mouse cursor.
My photoshop CS2 is ok and other CS3 products are OK its just fireworks CS3. My old Firworks 8 was fine. I believe that it is something to do with the desktop composition as when I turn areo off, its perfect, but I need areo on.
Does anyone have any iedas?
Thank you pixlor, your solution has worked for me.
Exact same experience, Fireworks worked great until I used any of the bitmap tools and then the cursor was slow slow slow.
Running Windows 7 64-bit with Aero Theme
Fireworks CS3
I didn't change the compatibility mode, I just checked Disable desktop composition.
Now when I start Fireworks, I can see the Aero theme is turned off (it takes a second, both monitors go black and then come back on).
A minor inconvenience, and it saves me from having to upgrade to CS4. Sorry, I really can't see why other people are complaining about this. I'm also running Chrome and it restored to the aero theme perfectly fine.
Thanks again!

Problems with Fireworks CS3 in Windows 7 Pro 64 bit
I have recently upgraded to Windows 7 Pro from Windows XP Pro. My Fireworks CS3 is having a problem. I cannot select items in the left side menu bar if I minimize or move the Fireworks CS3 window. If I have just opened the window it works, but minimize the window or move it and the toolbar stops working.
This problem is not unique to my machine. 2 other people are having the exact same problem. Here is the link to the Windows 7 forum:
http://www.sevenforums.com/software/26957-adobe-fireworks-cs3-issue.html
We sure could use some help. This is one of my bread and butter programs.I'm happy to hear you have other work-around alternatives!
Businesses with mission-critical software usually are very careful to research that their software will run on any proposed new system or that alternative software is available. This is the main reason that Microsoft had to continue supporting XP longer than they intended. Too much business-critical software ran on XP but did not run under Vista and would take some time before it would be upgraded to do so...if at all.
If you have "bread and butter" apps, then it was your responsibility to make sure that you could run them once you upgraded. Adobe's software worked more or less as advertised for the operating systems that were available at the time the versions were released. That's reasonable. Expecting indefinite support into the future is not.
Fireworks isn't a $2000 product. Adobe continues product development, yes. They've moved on to CS4 and its patches. You can upgrade to FW CS4 for about $150. The system requirements for FW CS4 do not include Windows 7; note that Fireworks is only certified for 32-bit operating systems:
http://store.adobe.com/store/en_us/popup/software/fireworks4/systemreqs.html
However, there's a statement about CS4 applications (in general) working with Windows 7:

And you'd want to get the recent updater:

If the feature worked under Vista but does not work under Windows 7, then that means that the problem probably lies somewhere in how the program communicates with the OS. The problem is not isolated to the tens - possibly hundreds - of thousands of lines of Fireworks code, but in how that code interacts with the Windows 7 APIs. To solve this problem is not the work of "an Adobe engineer." It's the work of a project team. It's the work of a project team which would have to be pulled off development of Fireworks CS5 for a few months to resurrect the old CS3 code, get familiar with it, and try to track down and solve the problem, then package up, test, and release a patch . By pulling resources off CS5 development, CS5 would be delayed or quality inversely impacted. Since CS3 is not a current product for sale, I can't see Adobe making this investment. There's no return on it, where there would be a return on getting a quality FW CS5 out the door on time. -
I installed
Fireworks CS3 in the new Windows 7. It seemed to function well. After a reboot I noticed my internet would not work. I attempted to resolve the matter but was unsuccessful. Has anybody had this problem? If so what is the fix.Is Windows 64bit or 32bit?
I've heard that 64bit Win7 will not play well with Fireworks CS3. Try to run Fireworks CS3 in some WinXP Compatibility Mode in Win7 -- I think this mode is available in Win7 Pro and Ultimate...
Hope this helps...

Fireworks CS3 doesn't work in windows 7
Hi Guys, I have used a version 9.0.0.1188 of Fireworks CS3 for a while in my PCs with OS Windows XP and Vista Home without any problem, but now I have a new PC with windows 7, and I can open Fireworks CS3, but then I can't open old files, and I can't save my new works. That is what I have noticed for now. Could it be something related with windows 7?
The Pc has Intel Core 2 Duo T6600 2.2 Ghz, 4.0 Gb RAM, windows 7 Home Premium. Please, some help will be appreciated.
Thank you.Thank you Sarthak,
I downloaded the patch and the problem continues. I will give you the maximum details about my fireworks. I have a copy of Fireworks CS3 in my flashdrive provided with licence from my school to be used in homework task. I have a desktop with XP...in that pc I can open the application directly from my flashdrive or from a copy I did of fireworks CS3 on my desktop in that pc, and all the application works fine. I can do exactly the same from another Laptop with windows vista, and everything is working fine as well.
What I trying to do now is open the same application Fireworks CS3 from my flashdrive or from a copy I did on my desktop in another different Laptop with just one week new coming with windows 7. I can open the application directly from my desktop icon or from my flasdrive, BUT after that, I can't open files or save my new work....even when I close the application, a window shows up asking me if I want to save my work, and if I click YES, it still doesn't allow me, because when I try to close the application again, the same message shows up. Even worse, sometimes the application closes by itself without any command.
I opened the Fireworks 'properties' to set Compatibility with window XP SP3, and didn't work, the same problems remains. That is what I can tell you for now. Thank you. -
Was anyone here able to run Fireworks CS3 flawlessly on
Windows 7? It has very strange behavior. I was able to get it run
for the first time after I have waited for more than hour to start
it. Then I activated it and was able to work with it without
problems. After restart it takes again forever to start. It looks
to me like there is no problem with fireworks but with some code
which is checking if the copy is legal and this is causing the
delay. I used FW very occasionally just to create some web
graphics, i bought FW8 and then i bought upgrade just to be able to
run it on windows vista. i really dont want to buy upgrade again to
use it on windows 7 just once a month. Any help appreciated.
update
Now it stopped working and I have got this message
Licensing for this product has stopped working.
You cannot use this product at this time. You must repair the
problem by uninstalling and then reinstalling this product or
contacting your IT administrator or Adobe customer support for
help.On Windows 7? That's a beta product. If you want to use
Windows 7 you can expect problems as the purpose of the beta test
is to
find problems. CS3 works well on Vista. If you need to work
productively, use a released product, not a beta.
That said, I had the same error on Vista a couple of weeks
ago. Something hung in Fireworks and not only would Fireworks not
start, none of my other CS3 apps (on Vista) would start. I got the
same error message in each. It is something in the licensing
product that Adobe uses. I searched Google for the text of the
error message and found a KB article that eventually got things
working.
http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=kb401528
I had to run the utility all three times, and then keep on
going through the other steps of moving off file folders before my
apps started working again. It was frustrating for the to stop
working, like that, and I kept being disappointed at having to move
on to the next "if that didn't work, do this." But at least they're
working again! -
Fonts NOT showing up in Illustrator but are in Fireworks (CS3)
Hi,
I have the CS3 package and it works great. However, I have a load of fonts on my system that are not appearing in the fonts menu in Illustrator CS3. I checked if Fireworks CS3 was picking them up and it is...this is great, but why not in Illustrator??
I also checked Photoshop, and they don't show there either. This is really weird. These are only basic fonts like "Helvetica" etc.
Please, any help would be greatly appreciated on how to resolve this.
I am using Vista 64 and the CS3 suite.
Thanks again,
MikeyAlong with Mikey, I have a large number of fonts loaded but, when looking at them in the font list (with 'Preview' turned on), only about half of them actually display a font...the rest are blank. When I apply the 'blank' fonts to text, nothing appears. When I apply a functioning font that does show a preview, it looks fine. Maybe these are related issues?

Hello...
I'm running an Intel Duo core 3.16... 2 gigs of ram.. asus
en9600GSO
Windows XP home sp3
Just reformatted.... installed windows + all the latest
service packs and updates
don't have flash player installed.. only had the plugin for
firefox which I removed
don't have acrobat or any other adobe programs
My problem is that when I click Setup.exe it loads a little
window saying Initializing Adobe Fireworks CS3.... and as soon as
it's finished loading it disappears and nothing happens. Setup.exe
is left in my running processes
Tried the windows install cleanup tool, tried refreshing that
jscript.dll file, tried deleting all the directores in application
data.. program files... common files...
It seems that no matter what I do this setup just doesn't
want to launch
Please... before I throw my computer infront of a bus, does
anyone know of anything I should try?
edit: Don't ask about my username... hahahaHey everyone
I happened to buy a new SATA hard drive (my motherboard is
meant for sata drives.. the ide cables you can tell are only meant
to reach optical drives) as well as reinstall windows.
For the record - I did get a couple strange I/O errors on
bootup with my old drive that are now gone with my new SATA drive.
The install works fine now, so my best guess is that it has
something to do with the drive since both install attempts were
done on fresh installs of vista.
Anyways, thanks for the help... sorry I didn't have a better
solution to my problem since not everyone is going to go buy a new
hdd to fix their install problems lol -
I'm experiencing an annoying issue with Fireworks CS3.
Immediate use of the application is not available after its opened.
Meaning, clicking on the application menu more than once returns a
message in the title bar, "Adobe Fireworks CS3 (Not
Responding)", and it hangs there at least 30 seconds or so
until it's ready to be used. And this is even having Windows Aero
disabled.
I recently formatted my computer and have minimal programs
installed. Here's an overview:
Windows Vista Business x64
Intel Core2 Quad CPU @2.40 GHz, 2400 MHz, 4 Cores
8 GB Memory - DDR2
500G 8M 7200 SATA II Hard Drives (x2)
GeForce 8600GT 256M video card
Office 2007 Ultimate (complete install)
CS3 Web Standard (less Contribute and Version Cue)
Acrobat Pro 8.1.1
iTunes 7.6
QuickTime 7
If anyone has an idea why this may be happening, please let
me know.
Thanks,

Clutching at straws here but my last bit of advice would be
to make sure
you have the latest NVidia drivers for your graphics card.
Other than
that I don't know what else to tell you except that Fireworks
works
great for me which of course doesn't help. Maybe a call to
support would
get you some more pointed advice are you certainly don't seem
to be
alone with this issue although it doesn't affect every Vista
user.
FWIW, before I got this machine last July (2007) I ran CS3 on
an aging
2001 AMD Athlon 1 GHz machine with 1 GB or Ram (running XP
Pro). While
no CS3 (or any other) application was blazingly fast,
Fireworks was no
worse than any other. The worst offender for me was
Illustrator.
There has to be a combination of hardware, drivers or memory
resident
apps that makes it worse for Fireworks somehow but these
kinds of issues
are the hadest to troubleshoot. That's why I think getting a
hold of
Adobe's official support may help as I hope they are
gathering data on
this to hopefully pinpoint a cause for the problem and may
have some
more meaningful advice than I or other users here may be able
to give.

Trouble installing Fireworks CS3
So I've been trying to install Fireworks CS3 for a bit now,
but for some reason I get the error:
"Setup has encountered an error and cannot continue. Contact
Adobe Customer Support for assistance.
Internal Error 2739"
I'm running Windows Vista Home Premium.
Any idea how to fix this?Click Start,, click Run, type the following line, and then
click OK:
msiexec /regserver
For 64-bit operating systems, you also need to reregister the
64-bit MSI installer. To do this, click Start, click Run, type the
following line, and then click OK:
C:\Windows\Syswow64\Msiexec /regserver -
Hi folks,
I installed CS3 Web Premium last week. Not had chance to play
with it a lot as yet but I have come across one irritation already:
When I launch Fireworks CS3 it takes between 10 and 20 seconds from
the program loading on screen to being able to either open a file
or create a new file. Clicking anywhere (e.g. menus) while waiting
gives a 'Not Responding' error message in the window title bar.
I was wondering if anyone else has had these problems or
knows how I might improve the startup responsiveness.
I'm running CS3 under Windows XP with all patches installed
on a Dell Precision 390 workstation with 4GB RAM.
Thanks in advance,

Ok... that's 2 strikes against you right there... ;-) The
only thing
worse is if you had Norton Antivirus but I guess they're both
about
equally crappy (seriously).
First thing I would try would be to exclude the entire
Fireworks
application folder from VirusScan's real time check and same
for its
application data folder in Documents and Settings. Ideally, I
would
ditch Mcaffee and get a good antivirus like AVG or NOD32.
Both are very
light on resources and will not slow down your system. AVG
has a free
version but NOD32 is about the best antivirus money can buy
(it's not
that expensive). I've been running it for over a year now and
it's the
best I tried. I needed the lightest resources hungry AV
possible as I'm
a musician and run resources intensive software that needs to
work well
in real time.
In your case, the number of fonts is probably a greater cause
of your
slow FW startup time than McAffee. You really should invest
in good font
management software. There are free solutions you can look up
on Google
but the one I prefer is Extensis Suitcase (version 11 came
out
recently). A cheaper and very good alternative is FontExpert
from
Proxima Software which had a new version release recently.
Ideally, you should never keep no more than about 50-100
fonts directly
installed in your Windows font folder and should activate and
deactivate
fonts on a "as needed" basis using font management software.
More than
about 300 installed fonts (less on some machines) will
definitely slow
down your graphic apps startup time and Fireworks is
especially
sensitive to that. I manage over 5000 fonts (yes, that's 5
thousand)
with Suitcase but I never have more than about 75-100 fonts
installed/activated at once.
Some font management software also come with plugins for
certain apps
that will automatically find and load missing fonts when
opening a
document. Unfortunately, none come with one for Fireworks
AFAIK but
FontExpert has one for Illustrator and Suitcase as plugins
for both
Illustrator and InDesign. Both companies say they'll probably
produce
more so, if your purchase either, enter official feature
requests for
missing font loader plugins for Fireworks.
Suitcase has the best font matching algorithm and goes a lot
deeper than
just the font name to find a match which is very important
for text
heavy layouts in apps like Illustrator and InDesign (which I
both use
regularly as well) because minute differences in
hinting/kerning can
cause unwanted text reflows if you load the wrong version of
a given font.
In any case, you should see significant load time
improvements if you
dramatically reduce the number of fonts you have installed in
your
windows/fonts folder and getting more efficient Antivirus
software will
help your entire system's performance.

Fireworks CS3 cant open any file
Hi all,
I have Adobe Fireworks cs3 portable and it wont open any file. It wont open the open or save dialog. Even when I drag files into it from my windows explorer, the application shuts down. Any ideas as to what i need to do to sole this?
ThanksI never heard of Fireworks CS3 portable, released by Adobe. Fireworks is always installed, it can't be portable (this is not Filezilla, for example, which is very light program and can be portable).
Chances are that you run a version, created by a third party -- I've heard of Photoshop portable, so Fireworks might exist, too, but this is not an oficial version, rather a "hacked" version so that it can work from a USB stick, or any location and be "moved around".
Sorry, I think that I cannot help you with that... I'd suggest installing an official Fireworks version, made by Adobe -
Fireworks CS3 Program Switching Issue
In the office we have 3 machines using Fireworks CS3 (part of Studio CS3). All the machines are experiencing the issue I am about to describe. Each machine is an Intel Core 2 Duo with 4GB ram. All 3 machines are using Windows Vista.
We all had the old Vista Aero problem with brushes, and we quickly overcame this by using the "disable desktop composition" fix.
However, one problem we have never been able to solve occurs when switching between ANY application and Fireworks. There is a delay of at least 20-30 seconds (sometimes more) when trying to swap back to Fireworks. We have being doing various Google & Adobe forum searches regularly over the past 2+ years, looking in vein for a fix, but as yet have still not managed to find a solution or even a record of someone else with the same issue (mainly because out searches are dominated with the old "disable desktop composition" fix). We assumed it was a problem fundemental to CS3 yet still hold out hope for a solution.
Normally it's not a problem, but when working on websites which involve a lot of graphics edits and/or switching in and out of Fireworks it can quickly add a very frustrating hour or more to a job.
Recently, I was forced to upgrade to a new computer with Windows 7, and transfered my old CS3 install to the new machine. I was surprised to find that I can switch in and out of Fireworks instantly, much to the frustration of the other guys in the office who are unfortunately stuck with Vista for the time being.
Is there a fix for this horrible switching delay on Vista and has anyone else here even sufered with the same issue?
TL:DR - This is not the desktop composition problem with brushes which seems to domnate results when we try to search for a fix, this is a very noticable delay when swapping in and out of Fireworks.I'm affraid that didn't help. It actually slowed down the inital launch of the program and it took around 5 minutes for Fireworks to finally start. Once started the program switching issue was still present

all 3 of which are painfully slow when swapping between

I've trawled the web for a solution to no avail.

Any other app in the CS3 range is fine, I've tried disabling

numerous other things to no avail.

You might want to give the new Fireworks Public Beta a try.
One focus
for the beta was to improve overall performance.

Fireworks CS3 WIll Not Start Up
I have downloaded both the Dreamweaver and Fireworks CS3
trials and have been using them both for a couple of days without
any problems. Suddenly when starting up Fireworks (it starts to
load the program) then comes up with the following pop up message
box. "Your user privileges do not allow Fireworks to update your
registry. Launch and edit with Dreamweaver will not work properly
until Fireworks is launched while using Administrative privileges.
The pop up box then freezes and I am unable to close it down.
If I go into task manager and end program, it then finishes loading
and shut down.
I am running Vista Ultimate and my account is the admin
account and this has only just started to happen.
Any ideas anyone? If you are unable/unwilling to allow the user to "run as administrator", there is another way.
A security concern could be that the file->open dialogue retains the given administrative rights of whatever account was used for "run as administrator". This can be exploited by the lesser user to gain access to folders otherwise restricted.
The most hassle free trick is to give the user full rights to the registry key, that Fireworks wants to write to.
(In the future, use ProcessMonitor from Microsoft to detect what a program tries to access and if it is successfull or not. That's how I found this registry key)
Add FULL rights on this registry key to "Everyone"
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\Fireworks.exe
That fixed the problem nicely for me.
Also new users will not be required to "run as administrator", as this is valid for all users.
True.. it gives the user full access to that specific registry key, but that is at least much less dangerous than giving full access to the entire system.
You can play around with lesser access than Full, but I will not spend more time figuring out the lowest level of access that will permit Fireworks to run.
Hope this trick works for you too
