Firmware limited Sound Vol

I read a while ago that the sound output level in the EEC ws different from the rest of the world due to some health and safety laws; ie dont blow yer ears up. Does anyone know what the firmware version and country is to get a hold of it please.

The firmwares on the www.nomadworld.com site are the international versions and won't have the limited volume level of the EU versions. In fact I believe that any of the versions you find on the Creative websites are not limited, only the version pre-installed on the EU players are.
You'll have to pick the firmware for your player yourself - you didn't mention which player you are using.

The output on the Audigy 2 ZS is Line Level. We no longer use amplification on the card as that can cause distortion and an overall loss of audio quality. You may want to look at either replacing your speakers (as few sound cards have amplification) or get a preamp for them to power them.

Limited sound

I know there are answers out there but it is nearly impossible to figure out how to post a question to an existing discussion. (for an intuitive operating system the difficulty in this area is nuts)
anyway - when I go to web sites (whether Safari or Firefox) and try to listen to a news announcement, view a video, preview a song etc. I have no sound. I've installed Flip4Mac; I've gone through the steps to get to audio output in the system and have no ooptions to change anything there.I'm a Mac newbie and quickly getting frustrated by this. this is a brand new iMac so everything is factory. help?
Please remember us newbies need specific, step by step instructions and tell me what keys to use, no symbols please unless they are on the keys themselves!

Yes, as Antonio said, the address of a site or two where you experience the trouble is always helpful so we can see if we also have the problem. And as much info about the issue also assists in determining what may be the problem.

Limited sound after replacing sound card

I replaced the sound card on my Gateway GM5626 running Vista with all undated service packs. I can get sound for iTunes, but not for YouTube of my TestOut lectures. I have uninstalled/re-installed SilverLight. I have gone to the Encore site and updatd drivers. Any suggestion?

RAID Card - Current firmware limiting capacity?

We have tried using 1.5TB drives with the Mac Pro RAID card and had some serious reliability issues from the outset.
We're wondering if the firmware simply hasn't been designed to support capacities over the 1TB that Apple sells. Both Hitachi and Seagate currently limit their Enterprise class 7200rpm SATA drives to 1TB. Apple uses the Hitachi Ultrastar drives as far as I've seen so far.
I'd like to know from a good source (if not Apple) whether or not the firmware is to blame because 1.5TB Enterprise-class drives don't yet exist.

Same here....WD 1.5 TB drives..Created a single 3.7TB RAID5 set with a single volume. Appeared to be just fine...few days later drops a drive. Set the drive as a spare, it rebuilds. Corruption all over the place. Then it says the raid5 volume is unrecognized and goes into safe mode (ie. Read only). Funny thing is all the apple people (enterprise support, local stores, etc...) all said 1.5TB drives should work....ordering 1TB Hitachi's.
Come on apple...for a $700 raid card you can do better. I believe it is an Areca card (ARC-1212 maybe???)
Running it on a 8-core 2.8 w/ 10GB RAM, everything up to date...Raid card says:

Visualizing sound over a period of time/comparing 2 audio files graphically

Hello, this question might be a bit abstract, but I would love it if anybody could offer some insight or ideas. Apologies if there is anything related to this on the forum--I did a search but couldn't find anything. I suppose it's not entirely Logic related, but it's what I've been working with and don't really know where else to turn. Okay, so here goes:
I'm studying graphic design, and as part of a project, I need to create some information graphics to basically represent visually two similar sound sources over a period of a couple seconds. Basically, one will be an audio sample of a three second drum intro, and the second will be an approximation of that using a sampler (Logic's EXS24).
Now I have an idea in my head that I would like to explore, but I can't figure out how to get the raw data I need to illustrate it. I think what could work for me would be to take a certain number of samples, say about thirty per second, and get the raw data, say like, the amplitude of each frequency at that exact moment. Then I could draw or graph that out. And layer them. I'm sort of envisioning something along the lines of this:
I'm not really trying to be too scientific or accurate in this. It's more an attempt to sort of create a physical, or almost 3D representation of the sound, and give a sense of the physical form and time in a 2D graphic. In doing so, I hope to show some difference between the original sample (old analog recording, drenched in reverb, etc) and the dry MIDI-based one.
I'm not sure if any of this is making sense, but I hope someone might be able to offer some ideas. I've been going crazy trying every single Mac shareware audio analyzer product I can find. The problem seems to be that most of them are designed for real-time audio analysis, or that they don't really offer a way to export the data over a period of time (I think I found one that can export something that Excel can read, but it's just for one split second of audio, and not a duration.)
Sorry this is so convoluted. I'm sort of new to the audio game. Oh ya, and I have Logic Pro 7 and also have Ableton Live 5 so that's what I'm working with. Thank you so much!

IPod touch 2.0 firmware and Audio Books

Hi, it was an interesting day trying to upgrade yesterday
That aside now that I am using 2.0 my iPod touch won't play my Audio Book for George Orwells 1984. It is a 9+ hour Audio Book all in one file. The iPod looks like it's going to play the file, then flips the image, and then slides back to my selection screen.
The file plays perfectly in my iTunes but once again fails when I remove and then resync the file on my iPod. I converted this Audio Book file from mp3 format and at first thought that might be the problem (although it played fine with the 1.1.4 firmware). As a test I formatted another mp3 Audio Book in the natural iPod Audio Book format. This smaller (2 hour) file played fine.
As a secondary test I converted 1984 into smaller chapters and unsurprisingly they all played fine individually. My gripe is that I don't want to have to remember what chapter I'm on when I go back to listen to my Audio Book. I feel like this might have to do with the sheer length of time the Audio Book spans but I am disappointed that it worked so well in firmware 1.1.4 and is failing to work at all in 2.0.
I'm just throwing this out there hoping someone can give me some insight about what to do. As it stands I'm considering dropping back to 1.1.4 because I'm also having considerable issues properly syncing my calendars, which is one of my favorite things about iPod touch.

Holidaze posted a similar problem and I responded in length to that one. I have the same problem. In a nutshell I did some testing and narrowed it down a little bit. I can play up to a 1.6 megabyte file(5 cds of mp3s that I converted over) but when I tried a 1.9 megabyte file (6 cds of converted mp3s) it doesn't work (same problem as you with the sliding back to the previous screen). So somewhere between 1.6 and 1.9 megabyte file it gets too big for the new firmware. Sounds like a bug to me. I don't know why they would purposefully remove functionality so surely it is a bug.

No Sound, No Audio after QuickTime & Safari Update

I am stumped. Ran repair permission prior to an install of the new quick time and Safari. Ran it after. Checked my very limited "sound" preferences, volume is up. And not evidently a hardware issue since I have two drives and the original one where I very seldom venture, the sound works fine if I change my start up disc and revisit the ancient world of 10.3.6.
I may or may not have reset the PRAM (but with no audio, there are no chimes). My main disc is running 10.3.9 with all recent security updates. And sound disappeared after getting the new Safari and Quick Time updates.
Obviously, Quick Time is the most likely culprit. But-- how do I uninstall it? If that is the answer? Or is there some other fix? I haven't checked the Tiger posts. Perhaps this isn't a 10.3.9 issue alone. Anyone know?

MacBookPro won't boot after firmware update; superdrive spins forever

I got my brother to switch to mac recently, but his MacBookPro has stopped booting. He told me that he ran a software update, in fact he said specifically "firmware update" on his CoreDuo MacBookPro, and as a result the machine does not boot. Instead it struggles to power on when the power button is pushed, and nothing happens except for a spinning up of the superdrive. It continues on like this until he holds the power button down again, stopping the spin.
As he put it, he ran a "firmware update" (sounds strange to me) and was told to restart, so he clicked restart. He was later instructed to do a hard restart, holding down the power key. He did so and has since fallen into the spinning drive problem, with no hints as to any cause.
Does anyone recognize this, and could someone please suggest solutions for trouble shooting? Thanks in advance. OS 10.4.x

E3000 - Limited 5Ghz channels?

Just got my hands on a new E3000 last week and been experimenting with it since. What bothers me is why the 5GHz has only a few available channels for use, at first I though it could have been hardware limited but after trying a custom firmware from DD-WRT all pssible channels were actually there.
Additionally in terms of data rate, I managed to get an idle link status of some 243 Mbps at most times using other channels not found in the stock firmware, compared to 130 Mbps (and fluctuating greatly) using the stock fimware latest one atm (1.0.3.002).
Why is there a firmware limitation from Linksys\Cisco for this "high end" model ? And no more custom options for the wireless likechannel bonding and so on!

It's not a firmware limitation. It's a country regulation. You are not allowed to use all possible channels and you are only allowed to use some channels with DFS.

The channels which require DFS are excluded if you pick a static channel.
dd-wrt doesn't bother to follow country regulations. You can set any possible channel available in the world. You can for example choose channel 14 on the 2.4 GHz band although that channels is only allowed in Japan. Standard Linksys firmware for the U.S. will only offer you 1-11.

L-front is loud, L back is medium, Center is soft and R-Front and Back are not doing much when playing music. I ran the SB spekaer diagnostics and get sound from all fi've,though in varying strengths. When trying to calibrate, I get sound from all as well, but again varying from too loud to very soft. Tired CMSS without success. The speakers used to work fine, but since I hung them to the ceiling it has been as described above (maybe they are afraid of heights ?). I am truly baffled and have spent over 8 hours on it, so appreciate help......

I have checked the cabling. When I run the diagnostics all give sound, and equally strong. This I presume means that there is some kind of software conflict. I have the limited sound regardless of what I do (iTunes, DVD, WMP). The speakers are Logitech, but like I mentioned they worked fine before I hung them to the ceiling.
Is there some feature (other than the standard callibrating which I have already tried) that automatically sets speakers to give an optimal surroung sound (by pinpointing the place where you most often are) ? That way I may be able to override whatever is causing the blockage.

Sound Quality Creative Zen

I recently purchased a Zen 8gb which I had to return due to a minor problem. I am not convinced that the sound quality of the new one is not as good as the previous one. Is this possible or am i paranoid. I have also been doing some blind tests with my old muvo n200 which sounds superior every time. Peoples opinions would be appreciated.

If, by sound quality you mean increased bass, than the original firmware won't make any difference.
What phones are you using? If you are using the stock Creative earbuds, your first step should be to get some better ones. They are of poor quality, and don't produce a very good bass response - partly because they don't fit most people very well, and the only way to get a good bass response with earbuds is to have a good fit. There are many phones that will give a heavy bass output.
I have found that Creative players aren't as bass-heavy as some other players, but it isn't as though the sound is tinny. I find it very natural, but of course that is my own opinion and preference.Message Edited by Artemesia on 2-26-2005 04:06 PM
