Hi There,
i have the 2TB HDWC120EW3J1 Model. is there a firmware update for this ?
i been using this as a backup storage for my server 2008 R2. (using windows backup)
for a while now i have problems with my backup's, i think there is a problem with the device - or disk..
is there a firmware update for the disk - or device ?

I don't know that there is necessarily a 1-to-1 comparable model. I put that model number in our search box and deleted characters off the end until it sound something that matched the beginning. I found this product:

Unfortunately, there is no update.

I am new to this forum and I would like to ask to help me to solve a problem that has arisen.
I have an unbootable external hard disk, but it detects when connected to USB.
Also it makes noise when plugged in, several times in a row and then nothing.
The HDD has not given me any problems so far.

Try this procedure:
Start the console window by typing CMD in search or RUN.
Then console window would open. Here the command: diskpart and press enter
Then type: automount enable and press enter.
Now try to connect the external HDD once again and check if it will be recognized.
Check also all the USB ports.

Can't rename a Canvio 2TB USB 3.0 drive

Hi, I've just got 2 Canvio 2TB USB 3.0 drives but couldn't rename either drive in Windows 7's explorer nor Mac OS X's Finder (with the Mac NTFS driver installed). Tho the new name is shown from the drive's "properties" but the name appear in Explorer is still the default "Toshiba Canvio Hard Drive". This is inconvient when I have 2 drives mounted but can't tell which one is which.

I always wipe new external drives clean.
If you have an autorun.inf file in the root, then ljaygould is probably right. It's this line that needs to change.

Microsoft recommends you disable autorun altogether. Too much malware uses it.

Can't connect and use 2 Store.E Canvio HDDs at the same time

Hi there,
I have 2 Store.e Canvio devices: 2TB and 3TB respectively but, it looks like I can't connect/use them at the same time, as if I do, one of them (the lastest I have connected), becomes inaccessible ("denied access").
If I disconnect the first device I connected, the second one, starts working,,,
Is a weird issue,and I can't find anyone experiencing something similar...
Any idea how could it be causing this, and/or how could I solve it?

Im wondering if the same problem appears using another computer or additional USB hub with an additional power supply.
From my point of few this issue could be related to low power provided by single USB port.
Both HDDs seem to support the USB 3.0 standard.
The common USB 2.0 port provides 500mA and USB 3.0 requires 900mA
So this means that two USB devices connected simultaneously would use 1800mA which might be too much for the notebooks USB ports

Toshiba Store.e Canvio 1TB not showing up on Macbook Pro Retina

Hello,
I'm having trouble with my external hard rive, it's a Toshiba Store.e Canvio 1TB, HDTC610EW3B1.
It has been working fine on my old Macbook running Mavericks but now on my new one, a retina Macbook Pro running on Yosemite, it won't show up anywhere.
I have checked with disk utility and it's not showing up, also not showing up on the USB in system preferences.
As I said, it works fine on Mavericks
Any ideas on what's happening here, please?

I have spent two hours with Apple technicians and so far nothing we've tried has worked. I now have to speak to a senior Apple technician and see what they say.

STOR.E CANVIO Formats

Hi All,
I have a 1TB STOR.E CANVIO and it is currently formatted as it came out of the box as NTFS ready for Mac.
I have already installed the pre-loaded NTI Back Up tool on my laptop...so can I re-format the drive to FAT32?
The reason for wanting to format to FAT32 is so that systems such as my PS3 can then view music/films on the external HHD.

Why not? I mean its a common external USB HDD and if you want you can format the HDD and can change the file system
Dont see any reasons why this should not be possible.

We can confirm that there are no firmware downloads available for Toshiba external hard drives. The operating (power-saving) nature of the drive is due to the way it has been built. Therefore, we can confirm that this cannot be modified.

'Disk Needs Repair' warning on base station w/ Hitachi 2TB USB Drive

Trying to use my new 2TB USB Hitachi XL Desk Drive (mac formatted) on my extreme base station. Drive works perfectly on my MacBook Pro but when I plug it in to the base station both with & without a powered usb hub, airport utility says 'Disk Needs Repair' & amber light flashes. Disk shows up in utility as a 1.8TB Hitachi but disk title is not listed. Other drives work just fine on the base station. Not sure what else to try at this point.

Connect the drive back to your MacBook Pro.
Open Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility
Click on your drive on the left side of the window to highlight it, then click Repair Disk over on the lower right of the window. May take 30-90 minutes or so depending on how much data is on the drive.
You may also need to click Repair Disk Permissions in Disk Utility as well.
IF...you are using the drive for Time Machine backups, Apple does not support backups to a drive at the USB port of the AirPort Extreme. You will have issues if you try this.

Unable to partition Toshiba Stor.E Canvio

Just purchased a Stor.e Canvio 3tb desktop hardrive.
I'm using a Appl Mac, have have formatted it to Mac OS Extended (Journaled). I would like to put 4 partitions on the drive as its to be used for backup.
However when I try to partition via disk utility it gives the following error
Partition failed with the error:
Invalid request.
Any ideas please

Resolved, I needed to select the type of partition eg GUI/Apple etc and it had chosen boot up disk

i 've just bought a new WD USB essential 3TB version can i plug it in my nas for make back up or is 3TB not supported? i havent tested it yet cuz if the drive isnt recognized then i bring it back, otherwise once open the shop wont give my money back.

The EZ media only officially supports 2TB USB. If you want to be on the safe side you may want to exchange it.

Canvio 1.0 TB USB 3.0 Portable Hard Drive HDTC610XK3B1 Sluggish

Bought a Toshiba Canvio 1.0 TB USB 3.0 Portable Hard Drive (HDTC610XK3B1) back during Black Friday 2011. Since I've had it, I've used it on my laptop, my rather powerful HP desktop, and another pretty powerful ACER desktop and all exhibit a very weird problem with the hard drive. Almost as if it's going to sleep or becoming idle, if I haven't accessed it or used it in some time (say I open an image that's on the drive and work on it for 5 minutes in photoshop) and go to either browse, save, or just about anything that would require access to the drive, things lock up for about 15-20 seconds and as I watch the hard drive (which the light will be off) the light will suddenly come on flickering which will then unfreeze the system and I have access to the drive.
It's the only potable hard drive I have that's doing this. I'd imagine it's some sort of auto sleep that it goes into and when you 'awaken' the drive to use it it takes a few seconds to power back up... but that's just my theory. It makes things go very slow when you're working on lots of images on the drive, so any help would be very much appreciated!
What would be causing this momentary freezing as it is accessed? And is there a way to turn this off?

I have exactly the same problem... with both my Canvio 1TB drives. (One is a HDTB110XK3BA, the other a HDTC610XK3B1.)
For some reason, NoSleepHD wouldn't install. (Could be because I have a 64-bit system.) As for Linux, I don't have it installed, and I'm no computer technician.
Isn't there a an easier way to get rid of this very annoying problem?

WD Elements 2TB USb Disk COnnectied to HH3

I have a WD elements 2TB USB drive and am tryimng to connect it to HH3. My laptop recognises it connected locally and I have tried both NTFS and exFAT to no avail. Any ideas how to get the HH3 to recognise this drive. The Homehub Manager has "Ext HDD 1021 (Rev: 2021) (File type not supported) when it is connected". Help!!

Since our preemie woke me at 04:00 this morning and I had nothing better to do--I let the ATV3 connected to our "main viewer" 'update'.
Got a screen showing what at first bleery-eyed glance looks like a HDMI-to-iPod/iPhone/Ipad cable wanting iTunes.
Fast blinking white indicator light.
Pretty much BRICKED.
I shall attempt the USB-mircoUSB after another cup of coffee.
Really GLAD I did not update the two ATV2s.
UPSIDE: discovered that one can make the same content play on ALL ATVs simultaneously from iTunes on the main machine...
