First Generation iPad No Longer Recognised after iTunes 10.6 and iOS 5.1 updates, help me!
I recently updated the version of iTunes on my early '06 iMac (17" 1.86GHz Intel Core Duo, 32-bit, 1.5GB RAM, OS X 10.6.8), to version 10.6 and the version of iOS on my first model iPad to 5.1. Since the update, it no longer shows up in iTunes despite it working perfectly fine.
There is nothing wrong with the hardware or the connecting cables, I am unable to diagnose any possible cause of the issue as no error messages are presented on either the iPad or in iTunes. I cannot use my iPad without connectivity with my desktop computer.
Is this problem a bug in iTunes 10.6 or iOS 5.1?
Frankly I am appalled, it seems as though Apple didn't fully test either update before release.
And I am not going to use Wi-Fi sync as a workaround. I need the security provided by a direct cable connection to the machine my iPad is synced with.
Unfortunately it was a blinding flash of the obvious that fixed my issue...
Simply rebooting the iMac brought it back to life.
Duh.
I assumed that since Apple usually forces reboots after updates if they are required that this didn't require one, apparently it did.

My first generation iPad is no longer recognized in iTunes. It just doesn't show up neither via USB nor via wi-fi.
I've checked the usb connection and cable and its OK.
I checked that iTunes is up to date on my Mac.
I reinstalled iTunes on my Mac.
I restarted my Mac,
I've restarted my iPad.
The iPad has IOS 4.3.1 (8G4) installed. And without the iPad being recognized in iTunes I can not update the IOS nor apps, nor remove unneeded photos. The iPad is completely filled up, no memory left to allow even updates via cellular or via wi-fi.
Trying to gain access to update the IOS and to update APPS and to remove the pics I already have backed up and do not need on this iPad locally.
PS: I even tried to connect the iPad to a different Mac and it was not seen in that iTunes either.
So, what can I do now?
Any suggestions besides using it as a paper weight?

I have just upgraded iTunes, but now both my iPhone and iPad are not registering on iTunes. They are recognised by my laptop, so the cable is working (and have tried all 3 USB ports as well) but neither are coming up on iTunes. It sounds like the iPad is not seen in iTunes and will not sync.

Here is step one to get you started:
Update iTunes
Make sure you have the latest version of iTunes. To check for available updates of iTunes on a Mac, go to iTunes > Check for Updates. On Windows, go to Help > Check for Updates.
To install iTunes, you need one of the following operating systems on your computer:
Mac: OS X version 10.6 or later
PC: Windows 7; Windows Vista; or Windows XP Home or Professional with Service Pack 3 or later
Note: If you are using a 64-bit version of Windows 7, be sure to download the 64-bit version of iTunes.
If your computer does not meet these requirements, you may need to upgrade your software or computer before installing iTunes.

I had the same issue after the updates and using iOS5. I disconnected my iPhone from the Mac, quit iTunes and reconnected my iPhone. Seemed to work. Only can't access the WHOLE camera roll.
Hope this helps someone. If I work out how to get the rest of the roll I'll post back.

Safari will no longer launch after Java 5.0 and Quicktime 7.4 updates!
Safari just quits unexpectedly now. Firefox is still working fortunately. What madness is this? Never had a Mac OS update fail before. This particular machine is quite antiquated - is that the problem?

Does the same issue occur in an other user account, if you don't have an other account create a new test account. Testing this can can show if this is a system wide issue or isolated to your user account.
Under the-> System Preferences /Accounts/ Login Options
Click on Padlock to unlock the secure Items,
Click the [+] to create the account, for ease you could enter test in all the fields. Short name will be generated for you.
Log out of your user account and in the newly created account.
Note that the latest Java for os 10.4 is "Java For Mac OS X 10.4 Release 6" (1.0)
Reverting to an early version of QT & Java is beyond my thought processes atm. -
Home video not appearing in Videos/Movies after syncing with first generation iPad.
Why is my home video in Shared Libraries but not Movies after syncing with first generation iPad? It appears in Movies on iPad2 and iPad3. I've already changed Media Kind to "Movie." I didn't have this problem 1 month ago when syncing a new video. Is there a software update issue? iPad says software is up-to-date.
The video app has 4 tabs across the top. If they are not hiding in one of the tabs, i suspect they are missing the type identifier and the app doesnt know where to show them. Glas that at least you can find them.
Next time you sync, take a look in i tunes, and see if they are fully labeled there. I would not be surprised if one the i tunes fields is the key for the pad video app to know which tab to put the, under. -

Purchased a first generation iPad.Downloaded garage band from iTunes app store but not compatible. Would be happy if there was a version I could use.
Download the app to iTunes on your computer, or another ddevice that has ios8, then open the purchased section of the App Store on your iPad and you will be asked to download an older version.

YouTube and it's app is always evolving. What used to work may no longer work, not necessarily because of the app itself or the device itself but possibly because of certain protocols that are required when accessing YouTube. I had the same situation happen on an iPad 3 running an older iOS version along with an older version of the YouTube app. My ultimate solution was to update the app but that also required updating the iOS as well.
if you are on iPad 1, that may no longer be possible since the maximum iOS for that model is iOS 5.1.1. If your iOS is already at that version and the YouTube app is also maximized, then you're out of luck using the official YouTube app. With the iPad 1, you'll be running into incompatibility issues more and more as iOS advances and apps advance...while the iPad 1 is stuck. -

To wipe clean you have 2 options
1: Connect and select iPad in computer iTunes, in Summary tab, click Restore button.
2. iPad's Settings > General > Reset > Rest All Content and Settings. -

Apps are only tied to one account... You can set up two iTunes accounts on your computer, however, and let his iPad sync to his account. If he has never backed up his apps to a computer, however, he will have to redownload all the apps. Afterwards, he can backup to iCloud instead of your computer.

After upgrading to ios 7, adn iTunes 11, I had some problems with both airplay and having my ios devices not recognised by iTunes. After a few fixes (re-installing Apple Mobile Device support ) manually, all is now looking good, apart from my iPad mini.
Windows recognises it when I plug it into any of the USB pports on my PC, however iTunes does not see it. The device is recognised by iTunes onother windows and Mac computers I have.
Is it posible to isolate which driver is being used by the mini, and uinistall it? I guess that if Windows sees the device as a "new one", it will re-install the device driver, and probably fix this issue.Hey there BeakyGB,
