First generation shuffle, going to nano

I need some help. We got my son a Nano for Christmas. He has a shuffle. We want to transfer all of his songs over to the Nano. When I hook the shuffle up to the computer, it recognizes it, but his playlist does not show up in the library. I was just planning on copying his shuffle into the libray and then hooking up the nano and grabbing the songs. Why won't this work? Kelly

you need a 3rd party software to do so

  • First Generation Shuffle won't turn on

Have a first generation Shuffle, about a year old.
It has the latest update but it won't play my songs.
I plugged it into my computer, iTunes came up. I left it for a few hours. Then I came back, took it out, and tried to turn it on.
But the main and the battery level lights didn't come on and no music is playing.
Interesting note, when I press my battery level light the main green light comes on instead.
I have restored it using the option in iTunes, didn't change anything.
I have tried the iPod Reset Utility 1.0 for Windows here:
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/ipodresetutility10forwindows.html
But nothing changed. Same problem as before.

Yes, the amber light comes on, I can transfer music in and out in iTunes.
But no, I don't see it in Windows Explorer.
I think it may just be broken. I was messing with it last night, held down play for five seconds and it played a song. But then it froze up after that with both lights staying on until I cut if off.

  • First generation shuffle headphone adaptor cable

Blimey, this must be the most difficult forum to post a question on. I had to read 'how to ask a question' several times first, and i'm still not sure how I got here!
Anyway, all I want to know is how I can get hold of a headphone adaptor cable for my first generation shuffle to use with the shuffle sports case. I bought my sports case second hand with no cable.
The cable enables you to use other headphone connectors with the sports case, ie; car kit, other make of headphones etc
I am in London but the Apple store here apparently does not sell them and were quite unhelpful.
    All help gratefully recieved!
    Thank you.

Are you looking for an EXTENSION cable? The Shuffle's headphone jack is a standard 3.5mm stereo jack...ANY standard 3.5mm stereo (mini)plug works in it.

  • Problem in playing songs in order - First Generation shuffle

I've been having a problem over the past few months, when trying to play my songs in order on my ipod shuffle (first generation). When I do, it suddenly stops in a song and freezes (also flashes green on and off). I switch it off and restart it, but the same problem occurs. I've tried the 5 R's and lost count the amount of times I've had to restore it.
Anyone have any suggestions as to what the problem could be?
    Sal, Scotland

This was not the first site I encounered in my first two hours of searching . . . the other sites said that I could do this and that but did not provide the links to actual instructions.
When connected .. the Shuffle appeared as an icon on the desktop, and two itunes windows were launched.
I could not disconnect in a manner that satisfied the MAC even after ejecting from all three places. However, after connecting and disconnecting about 20 times, setting up an Apple ID 3 or 4 times, and randomly clicking various parts of the itunes windows for a few hours, I finally was able to delete and reload songs and actually have the Shuffle play more than two. I can now forward to more than one song at a time.
Hopefully, my instructions above will assist future Shuffle users or at least make than feel better in their random quest for useability. BTW - I did find a teeny tiny manual with lots of redundancies. After much squinting, I ascertained that this manual instructed me to click things that I did not have visible on the screen so it was not useful.

  • How to trade in first generation ipod for ipod nano touch

How do you send in your first generation ipod to get the nano touch in return?

Go to the support page and click on the Ipod replacement program link, and then just follow the directions and fill in the information needed.

  • First Generation Shuffle will Not Update Through iTunes

When I connect to iTunes a box comes up that states I do not have latest update for Shuffle. When I click to update, it states that it cannot connect to server because I am not connected to the internet. I checked my firewall, and iTunes has access rights. So I am stumped. It seems that those who have updated are having problems so maybe it's a good thing if I don't update. Thoughts? TIA

Given that the ONLY perceived effect of firware version 1.1.5 (the update) is being able to play SOME iTunes Music Store tracks that were sold beginning in November, IF that doesn't affect you, then you can safely ignore the suggestion by iTunes to update your Shuffle.

  • First Generation iPod Shuffle switch

I just received a first generation shuffle. Read the manual and am still confused about the on/off/shuffle/play in order switch. It appears to have only two slide postions - on and off. How do I tell the unit I want to either play in shuffle mode or "Play in Order" mode?
    PowerMac G5   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

when you slide it FULLY to the very bottom
    it is on shuffle
when you slide it in the middle
(a little bit) it is in order mode
apparantly i lost mine so yeah..

  • New PC, 2 iPhones, 2 iPod nano's (one first generation) same account

I have a new PC with windows 7, my old PC had XP home both with 10.4.1. I have two iPhone 4's (mine and my wifes), I have two iPod nano's (one is a first generation). I have always used them with the same iTunes account I have never even had more than one account.
With that being said my problem is this: I installed iTunes on my new PC and tried to sync my iphone to it. It prompted me to back up my library and I did. Asked to authorize this computer and I said yes, it then proceeded to load my songs. After it was done which took for ever it promted me to erase and sync so I did. I did the same to my wifes iphone and the second generation iPod. That is when I notice it didn't copy all of the library, still short about 100 songs. These are songs purchased from iTunes not ripped from cd's.
When I plugged in my first generation iPod nano, I tried to upload the library from it to my iTunes on my new windows 7 PC. It prompted me to autorize this computer for this account. When I tried to authorize it a window said that 5 computers were already authorized for this account and I would have to deauthorize one. In iTunes I proceeded to check my account under the store tab. It said I had only 3 computers authorized of the posible 5. I tried this multiple times shut down and restarted my computer, still the same information, nothing.
I found a couple of items on this site that said I could "deauthorize all computers" from this account, but to becarefull you can only do this once a year. I tried that and went back authorized my new PC again, plugged in my ipod nano still prompted the same that 5 computers were already authorized but when I went to the store tab it said only 1 was authorized.
I then took the nano first gen and went back to my old PC with xp home. I had already removed iTunes from it, but pluged in my nano. It loaded right on it and installed all my music. I took my other nano plugged it in and it asked if I wanted to authorize this computer I ck'ed yes and then prompted to load purchased items ck'ed yes and it loaded right up. ITunes then wanted to erase and sync so I did that. After that was complete I took my first gen nano to the PC with windows 7. plugged it in and the window prompted to load or erase and sync. I ck'ed load purchased music. Window popped up with the authorizing this computer again. I ck'ed yes to Authorize it. Again stated "5 computers already authorized"
Again I went to the store tab and checked there. there are only 2 computers authorized.
What is up? Thanks for any help.

My brother in law is also a Masshole.
I'm not sure of the exact steps, it's been a little while since I've worked in that part of windows 2000, but here goes.
    1. Go into the control panel from the start menu or My Computer
    2. In the control panel there should be an option for computer management. Open that up and you should see a tree of options on the left side.
    3. Right click on Users (or something like that) and then select add user. Then you assign the user name and password (blank is allowed under the defaults)
    4. Once the account is set up you want to be sure that it is part of the Administrators group so that he'll still be able to install programs and such. If you highlight Groups you should be able to right click on Administrators and add the new account. You can also do this from the account setup screen as well, but I don't remember the specifics.
Like I said, that may not be exact since it's been a while, but that should at the very least get you in the ballpark.

  • Ipod nano first generation

I wanted to exchange my old Ipod nano first generation, so I requested the box from Apple to put my old Ipod Nano inside.
Unfortunately the box never arrived and when I try to order it again it says the serial number of that Ipod has already been used.
Now I try to find a way to contact the right Apple department to order a new box. Does anybody know an Email adress? Thank you.
    P.S. I'm from Germany

  • ITunes does not recognize my first generation iPod Shuffle

iTunes does not recognize my first generation iPod Shuffle (512MB).  Windows 7 sees the iPod as an empty external drive although the iPod has music on it.  The iPod plays the music fine.  iTunes does recognize a similar first generation iPod Shuffle.
What can be wrong with the iPod Shuffle?   How can I fix?
    Thanks,I

  • First Generation Ipod Nano gives error message when using Windows Vista

I have a dual boot PC running XP Home and Vista Home Premium. My three kids have Ipod Nanos. Each kid has their own user profile on the PC. The later generation Nanos (2) work with Vista perfectly.
The first generation Nano causes an error message when you connect the Ipod to the PC while running Vista. If you run the XP and associate the Nano with XP everything syncs perfectly with no error messages.
Conclusion: Early Nanos work with XP, but do not function properly with Vista.
Request of Apple INC. - Fix this to work with Vista, or send me a new Ipod free of charge.

All of the following programs should work with Vista.
Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Another free program is Pod Player.
    SharePod is also freeware.
