First site, almost done, a few questions...
Hi all. I'm nearing the end (I hope) of my first flash site
and have a few questions.
Most pressing - I've hit a wall on this error #1009 at frame
1. I've read a bit online and and understand what it is, I just
can't figure out what I've left out. Code is attached.
Each label in the code refers to a label on my main timeline.
At the end of each animation I have gotoAndPlay(nextIntro). All of
the animation is located within the same scene. It seems pretty
straightforward but I'm clearly missing something.
On a related note, what is the best way to create large flash
projects with lots of animation? I've laid everything out
chronologically within a single scene. This seems like it will
work, also seems like it could get messy as projects got larger. Is
there a best practice or some reading online regarding this
subject?
Help on my error would be FANTASTIC. Insight on general
philosophy/structure would also be much appreciated. :)
The full error is:
TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of
a null object reference.
at portfolio21test_fla::MainTimeline/frame1()
The code extends from frame 1 to frame 29. At that point we
have a stop(); then the outro plays. The last frame of the outro
has code stating gotoAndPlay(nextIntro);
From this point on, the other scenes in the movie have intros
without any code since they just need to play. This is followed by
a stop(); keyframe at their midpoint and gotoAndPlay(nextIntro);
keyframe at the last frame of their outro.
In recent tests, I'm not getting the error when the file
first loads. I only get the error when I click on the button
instance "main_btn". I can click on that button as soon as the
movie loads and get the error, or I can click around to the other
frame labels without the error, then click main_btn and get the
error...
Would a screenshot of my timeline (or anything else) be
helpful?

Building my first Site, and have a few questions...
Hi people.
Despite being a Designer (albeit a non-practicing one at the moment!), I've never done website design before. So, I'm having a go with iWeb to learn some basics, in the hope that my knowledge will improve as time goes on! In the meantime however, I have some questions, which I think I know the answers to, but will ask anyway!
1) When I add an album, I notice you can choose to have a border round the picture. I know this can be changed for different styles, or even nothing at all. However, I like having a little border round the image-but the one I have comes up white. Is there anyway i can change the border colour?
2) I want a page with a few links on, but I don't want to have them listed as URL's. Can I make buttons for them? For example, if I wanted to link to the Apple Store, the idea would be to have some sort of button with the Apple Logo in which when clicked takes you to the site. Can this be done in iWeb or should I be looking at more advanced web building programs?
3) I'm going to have a page with some music interests on-can i make a link for an artist or that particular track that will take you directly to that artist/track in iTunes? Like you click it, it opens iTunes and directs you to that page?

If you don't define CSS link styles, you will get default links in purple, blue and red. Better to use CSS to style your links as shown below (use colors to match your own site.):

I really don't understand this question. Your design comp should have multiple objects each in it's own layer. Foreground images separated from background images.

I was almost done my project. I hadn't published it anywhere. Then, the next day, the clips from my timeline went all grey and there was an "out of date" icon. My project was lost. What happened? It's not the first time it's done that!
You can undo your permission changes. Probably the most relevant one is cookies. Try one or both of these methods:
(1) Page Info > Permissions tab
While viewing a page on the site:
* right-click and choose View Page Info > Permissions
* Alt+t (open the classic Tools menu) > Page Info > Permissions
(2) about:permissions
In a new tab, type or paste '''about:permissions''' and press Enter. Allow a few moments for the list on the left to populate, as this information needs to be extracted from a database.
Then type or paste ''rcn''' in the search box above the list to filter it to the most relevant domains. When you highlight a domain, you can adjust its permissions in the right pane.

First Logic gig: a few questions...

Would appreciate any thoughts from the glorious hive-mind that is this forum!
First gig in a long time coming up, at a Universtiy Freshers Ball. It will be a 30 minute slot in a Dance night, so will be playing mainly four-to-the-floor techno. Ill be using my set up (see signature). Mainly native Core Instrument tracks, but a few Audio Loops. No live mixing, but playing live over the top on each track., using a Virtual Instrument.
There will be no sound engineer on the night. The Ent's guy who booked me hasn't a clue to the PA system spec's, but has said I can go and have nosy in a few weeks. It's a small venue... ~500 cap.
Never having used logic live, and not being a sound engineer as such, I was wondering about a few things:
1) What sort of FX should I have on the output? Same as if were an normal audio bounce? Im bearing in mind that the punters will have been dancing to clubmixes until I go on. Does my master output need to relfect that?
2) Is it best to freeze all the tracks? I know I could bounce them all to stereo... but I do like to maintain the pretence of being live . Besides, I might use the Keystation to control a few parameters here and there.
3) I write my songs as individual arranges in logic. Is there a way I can import them all into the same arrange, with all their instruments and automation data, so there is a contiuous flow?

I plan on pre-ordering it tomorrow on the 7th. I'm not gonna wait until 3:00 EST, but will do so in a reasonable morning hour.
A few questions:
1.) My contract ends sometime in November (Whenever the Droid 1 came out). I am still grandfathered into the unlimited data plan, correct?
2.) When upgrading to a new phone, are there other fees I should be expecting? (Just so I can get the pre-rage out of the way.)

[DONE] Bash scripting. A few questions

However I've got a few questions concerning bash scripting since I've never did it before.
Here the example from the wiki:

Now what do I need the /*) for in the cases pre and post? What does it do? And why isn't there any *) in the end which would exit the script if none of the above is true?
Secondly, why does it say case $1/$2 in, but not case $1 in, what is the $2 needed for? E.g. in this script only $1 is used: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/OS … ibernation
And third question is, if I do really need the double quotes around $1? Does it make any difference?
Sorry for my incompetence but I'm not a dev and as I already said I've never did any bash scripting...

It is the same as the one in the OSS wiki entry, but slightly configured to work under logind and not pm-utils. Of course the new location is /usr/lib/systemd/system-sleep/.
I'm about to update the wiki with my code, so I'd like to know if there aren't any major mistakes. I tested it and it works but I want to get sure
PS: Do people actually still use pm-utils for suspending or can I safely remove the previous script from the wiki?

A few questions before I buy a new iMac/Mac mini and sign up for Creative Cloud.
Hello Everyone,
I am looking to purchase a new Apple computer and sign up for Creative Cloud within the next week and I have a few questions that should be answered before I proceed.
My wife and I own a business and we will be using the CS6 apps to create brochures, Constant Contact mailings, product package inserts, edit product photography for print and web use, and short HD how-to videos. We are not graphics professionals or power users and wont be doing anything too complicated.
Any help and answers will be greatly appreciated.
I will start with the hardware questions first:
I am trying to decide between the iMac and the Mac mini.
The iMac is a 2.7Ghz Quad-core Intel core i5 and comes with 4GB of memory that is expandable to 16GB, which I will do for sure. It comes with a Radeon HD 6770M graphics card with 512MB of GDDR5 memory(not upgradable), and a 1TB HDD that runs at 7200RPM. This unit meets the specs required.
The 2.5Ghz Mac Mini comes with 4GB of memory that is expandable to 8GB, I will also do this. It has a Radeon HD 6630M graphics card with 256MB of GDDR5 memory(not upgradable), and a 500GB HDD that runs at 5400RPM. This unit meets all the spec(I think) except for the speed of the HDD.
Question: Will the mini run the software without too much of an issue considering the speed of the HDD?
Question: Will the iMac run the software significantly better to justify the price difference?
I already have 1 mini(purchased 4 months ago, with the same specs listed above) and will be purchasing a second computer for my wifes desk. If the mini will run CS6 fine, that is great and we can save a few bucks. If my mini will not run CS6 well, I will get the iMac for her desk as she will be doing the bulk of the work in that regard anyway.
Now a couple of software questions.
After reading hundreds of reviews and forum posts over the last few days I have seen many people having this or that issue. It seems to me that most of the issues are because of upgrades from Lion to Mountian Lion after installing CS6 first or trying to open CS3,4,5 files in CS6.

Similar issues are discussed in the Apple forums as well as many other places around the web.
I am not a computer professional but I know enough to maintain my systems and keep them running smoothly.
We do not have any Adobe software installed on my mini and will not be opening any files from previous versions of Adobe product in the new CS6 software. These will be a clean installs on pristine systems running fully updated Mountian Lion OS's on both machines and creating new files from scratch.
Question: Should I be expecting any issues like the ones I have read in the forums and blogs or are these just the normal things that happen when upgrading to new software with multiple hardware configurations?
My feeling is that we will not be having too much of a problem due to the clean installs and no files from previous versions.
Next up, the Creative Cloud(CC) FAQ states that you can install on 2 machines but can't open stuff at the same time.
Question: Does this mean we can't be using any CS6 apps at the same time or just not using the same app at the same time?
Example: PS and PS on both machines at same time = No, PS on one and Dreamweaver on the other at the same time=Yes?
The CC FAQ page says Adobe will add Lightroom 4 later in 2012 while the main CC page lists it as available now.
Question: Which is true?
My mini is registered to me, with my name, iTunes account, Apple ID etc.
Question: Do I need to do the initial set-up of the new machine with all my information to ensure the CS6 suite works on both machines? Do the computers need to be registered(as far as Apple configuration is concerned) to same person for them to work on one CC account or can I install CS6 on any 2 machines regardless of how they were initially set-up?
This may seem like a silly question but I want to avoid any problems before they happen.

I'll try and answer your questions as best I can.
Qn 1 Which Mac.
Ans:- As I understand it both units will run Adobe CS6.
Which one really depends on what you wand from CS6. If you are looking for high end demand and performance, then I would go for the IMac
Your Specs for the Imac are right. However if you buy your IMac straight from Apple there are even higher specs.
You can get:-
3.4 GHz i7 processor rather than the i5
2GB video card as opposed to a 1Gb video card.
Of course such a model will cost you more.
In the end it is needs compared with money to spend. That is only a decision you cam make.
Q2:- Will the higher cost for the Imac justify copst.
Ans:- Again it depends on what demands you intend to make on the hardware and software.
But I note you have a business and if that businees expects to high demand and high speedy performance then I suspect the Imac would be more able to provide your needs.
Again only you will know the answer to that.
Q3:- Questions about CS6 reliability
Ans:- I have been with Adobe for way over 10 years.
Speaking, only for myself, it is the most reliable software on the market.
It is true that if you look down this form, like any other and I am thinking about the Apple discussions forum, you will find numerous instances of problems.
Again this is only my opinion, but although all these problems are real for the individuals:-
First it is not clear why they have the problem e.g. what have they done or not done.
Second, they are in the minority of the total users using the hardware / software.
The only problem I am aware of with CS6 is Acrobat X. I understand it has been sorted Adobe, however it cost me so much work I have removed it from my system and reverted to Acrobat 9
So what I am saying is that there are only two comapnies I rely 100% on: They are Adobe and Apple.
So if you are happy with my opinion I would not worry about Adobe CS6
Qn 4:- CS6 0n 2 machines.
Ans:- Yes you will not be able to run the same program similtaneosly.
I believe, if it is important that you do run the same program together, that you can acquire a further licience from Adobe to do that.
You would need to contact Adobe about that.
Qn 5:- Lightroom 4
Ans:- Lightroom is now available as part of Creative Cloud.
Qn 6:- Set up for individual machines
Ans:- I do not believe you do. Once you have set up your Creative Cloud account you go to the apps site and download the apps for each machine.
Each machine downloads the apps and your machine and the apps are registered by Adobe.
Here is something that you may want to know:-
Because I was so unhappy loosing all the Acrobat data with Acrobat X I ended up deleting Acrobat X
However as far as Creative Cloud is concered Acrobat X is still on my machine.
It is not a problem for me because I am happy with Acrobat 9, it fullfils my needs and has not crashed and lost me all my bookmarks.
However here is the point:-
Adobe, when there was a problem with Acrobat X requested that no-one deletes the application.
Though I do not know for certain I believe registration of the apps you have with Creative Cloud are registered with Creative Cloud in their database. Therefore were you to delete an app, it will still be registered with Creative Cloud and you will not be able to download a further copy even though the app is no longer on your machine.
Therefore it maybe not a good idea to delete an app when you no longer have a use for it. If you want it back I suspect you will have to contact Adobe Support
Personal Comment:-
It is true many unfortunately have had all sorts of problems, including me with Acrobat X.
That said, Creative Cloud in my view has been a major advance in how Adobe delivers software. I have no regrets with signing up to Creative Cloud and I expect to remain with it.

A few questions regarding my Z10
Still a new user, new to smartphones too, can't find time to sit with it very much lately...
Here are a few questions I have:
On recharging the phone after I upgraded the OS, when it was I believe turned off -- I don't think it was on -- I never noticed the green LED that I noticed sometimes while recharging before I upgraded to the latest OS -- it just never seemed to come on green I presume to show a full battery when I was charging. Yesterday it did, and I believe my phone was "off" -- what's the story on that? Does it just stay on green a short while, then go off? Why sometimes orange/white I think it was, for quite some time, even when it should have been recharged? I was glad to notice the green yesterday.
I had the Bell store put in the largest of the media cards, and now I want to load up some apps, not junk, I'm not a kid, just solid ones, and am not sure how to do that... ahem. I know. I would like to pick up the Globe and Mail news one and the CBC news one unless it's already on there, will check on that, to start, and maybe some other which is recommended. Can I do this over the household WiFi without turning the carrier date access on? Or can I do it via my laptop -- I did put BlackBerry Link on the computer [actually the Bell tech did at the Bell store] and I have not attempted to use that yet in any way. Can someone point me to online instructions on this or give me a step-by-step procedure? I am still "new" as a user...

Globe News, CBC news, CBC radio, National Geographic, TuneIn Radio, Recipe Box, Native Level, Easy Level, NFB, CBC Hockey Night, CBC Music, CIBC Banking, POYNT, Flashlight LED are all free and very good.
Skype is free, but not great yet.
If you're on wifi, all the downloads will use wifi data.
Most apps are pretty small and don't eat up a lot of your data plan, even if you download over wireless. -

Recently I got an iPhone 4S, it is my first new phone in a long time, before this I had an old nokia, so I just have a few questions about it.
I havve read a alot of horror stories about the 4S battery life, mine seems ok, here is what I would like to know
1) How long should a healthy battery last?
2) how long should it take to charge to 100% from 1 or 2%?
On my daily commute I use listen it to music and sometimes user twiiter/facebook. I also get alerted of emails when they come in. So far it has just about lasted just about two days maybe before I had to recharge. Is this about right? As stated above I am coming from an old nokia, which is very dated now but the battery lasted almost a week before I had to charge, so having to charge my phone this often is new to me. My iPhone is really great and I just don't want any problems. I have turned off all extras that I don't need.
BTW are the iPhone 4S battery issues a software or hardware issue?

1. I can access 'http://chen_rong' , 'http://localhost' , 'http://192.168.88.175' without input username / password for realm 'XDB' in IE6;
2. I can access 'http://localhost/apex/apex_admin' , 'http://192.168.88.175/apex/apex_admin' , and I can be redirected into apex administation page after input admin/<my apex admin password> for realm 'APEX' in IE6;
3. I can access 'http://chen_rong/apex/apex_admin' in IE6, but after input admin/password , I can not be redirected into administation page, because the cookie was blocked by IE6.
then, the first question is :
Q1: What is the difference among 'http://chen_rong' , 'http://localhost' , 'http://192.168.88.175' ? I have already include site 'chen_rong' into my trusted stes! why the cookie was blocked by IE6. And as I described above, the apex site works fine for ip address , and localhost. but the cookie will be blocked by IE6, if I want to access the site by 'http://computername:port/apex/apex_admin'. This problem does not occured in firefox and google browser. Could someone give me answer? -

I've been doing lot of reading but struggling to find (or understand!) answers to a few questions.
I have decided that the simplest way to do things is to import files straight from camera into aperture (although one forum member mentioned somewhere one shouldn't do this?).
Then use the images as managed images, and back up via vault to an external hard drive.
1)So if I do this will I still have 'managed' libraries, or will my libraries be 'referenced' (to the external hard disk). Because presumably then if that's the case I'll have to have the hard drive connected to work with the images
2)If I back up to hard drive after editing, will those edits be saved on hard drive too, or will it just be 'master' images.
3) I have been playing around trying to find the best way to do things - so currently I have photos stored in iphoto, aperture and on my internal drive (in a pictures folder) - this is obviously not ideal, is there any way I can easily get them all stored in aperture as I think most my aperture library is probably referenced? (I tried consoildate images and now it looks like half the images are still in the folder on theinternal disk drive and half aren't!)
4) so is there some way of checking whether the images in Aperture are Masters or referenced?

It depends. If you use referenced master files, using a card reader and placing the new images/folder into storage location first would be better, but if you are letting Aperture manage your master files, it really does not make a difference at all.

If your question is about Vault, you will have managed masters in the Aperture Library and the Library content will be backed up to the Vault. They are two different entities - one original and other being compressed backup of the original library.

Every action taken within Aperture will be backed up into the Vault. As I indicated earlier that I use referenced master files, but my edit steps are all kept in Aperture Library, along with previews, thumbnails and any data associated with the image. So I back up my Aperture Library to Vault, and I also backup my referenced master files independently, outside of Aperture.

If you reference all the existing images as you bring them into Aperture environment, then it really does not matter if you consolidate or not. Aperture will keep track of where the files are located, once you associate the file within Aperture (by selecting leave files in original location).
If you like to have Aperture manage the files, then simply select managed master during import and you're done.

You mean managed or referenced, I think. Master simply means the original image file (raw, jpeg or tif file). Yes I think this answer was already given in above post.
Since I access the image directly without the use of Aperture, having managed master does not work for me nor for my setup. I use a MBP with limited storage but I do want to carry the entire library with me. The only way that can work is to have previews on, and Aperture Library on the notebook, while the actual image master files stays on external drive.
There are tutorial videos on Aperture site (Apple) as well as video podcast on Aperture How-to Series in iTunes that will help you on this and other subjects.

Ok I have a few questions, maybe you can help me...
A) ORGANIZER RELATED QUESTIONS:
1) How/where do I back up photo/videos/settings from adobe organizer?
1b) If I decide to upgrade from pse9 to ps cs5 is it real simple to 'import.transfer' organizer to the big dog ps cs5?
1c) Same thing (but for videos) if decide to upgrade to premiere pro from premiere elements 9 is it easy to import organizer?
2) Organizer - are there physical copies of my photos/videos in some other adobe organizer folder
or are they just linked to similar to windows 7 and libraries?
B) Photoshop & Premiere Elements 9 vs Photoshop cS5 & Premiere Pro
1) Does After Effects work with premiere elements 9?
1b) Recommend some good starter plug in collections for video editing.?
2) If I decide to upgrade/buy photoshop cs5, do all of my plug ins I've got installed with elements 8 as host get automatically transferred to ps cs5? Or do I have to manually reinstall all over?
3) How much simpler is photoshop elements to learn than ps cs5 and premiere pro?
Is the learning curve about the same just more of it to learn (and additional function of course)

1b) You can convert a PSE catalog in CS5 but works best with photos only. Project files like slideshows and videos might cause the conversion to stall.
1c) Premier Pro has it’s own media browser.
2)There are no physical copies. The Organizer only makes links to the folders on your computer.
B.1)AE is fully integrated in CS5.5 Production Premium but I’m not sure if it works on a stand alone basis, although I don’t see why not.
1b) Sorry don’t know any plug-ins to recommend but 32 bit plug-in's will not work with AE.
2) You would need to move plug-ins manually.
3) Just more of it. In PS CS5 you get great things like the pen/paths tool and tone curves. With Premier pro you ideally need a fast 64 bit system with high end GPU to take full advantage of the mercury Playback Engine.
Try adobe TV for all sorts of video tutorials for the various products.

Your program should take as input the number of quarters in Martha's jar (there will be at least one and fewer than 1000), and the number of times each machine has been played since it last paid.

The second problem is that you never add the payout of a machine to Martha's number of quarters.
Look carefully at the way your professor implemented the game() method. If you think about it, what it returns is the net "gain" from playing a game. On jackpot it returns payOut -1 (jackpot less the one quarter Martha had to pay for the game), otherwise it returns -1 (Martha spends one quarter and wins nothing).
So what you can do is simply add the returned value to the number of quarters in the jar -

instead of quarters--. -
Few questions I had before buying an iMac..
Alright, I plan on entering the Mac scene in a week or two, but first would like a few questions I had cleared up.
My first question involves Boot Camp. From the Apple site: "Boot Camp supports the most popular 32-bit releases of Windows XP and Windows Vista." I was planning on getting Windows XP64 to dual boot with. Will Boot Camp not support 64 bit XP?
Second question(s) revolve around Time Machine. First, I plan on getting an external 500 gig drive for Time Machine to do its thing with. Does Time Machine need the entire 500 gigs for backup? (The hard drive in the iMac I'm planning on getting has an internal 500 gig drive). Or is it possible to partition half of it for Time Machine and half for my own regular use?
One more quick question, do the iMac's have any sort of built in speakers?
I believe that's everything.

I just wanted to say if you are planning on running games on Windows, where you need full access to fast graphics, DirectX, etc. then Boot Camp is the way to go.
On the other hand, if you need windows for programs such as Quicken or Internet Explorer, it is much more convenient to run them in Virtualization software like Parallels or VMWare. Your XP or Vista session will run in a Window on your Mac and you don't have to reboot to go there. Unfortunately, only 32 bit versions of Windows are supported.
You can have the best of both worlds. You can have a bootcamp partition that is bootable into Native windows, and you can also access the same Windows license, programs, and data in Parallels (but only if it is 32 bit).
For Time Machine, you can partition a single drive into a Time Machine partition and another partition, let's say your "Media Files" partition. However, if you plan on backing up your "Media Files" partition to Time Machine along with the files on your internal hard drive, you have the problem that a disk crash would wipe out both the original and the backup.
I have a nice set of powered JBL surround speakers with subwoofer that I used with my old Dell, and I continued using them with my old iMac. When I got the new Aluminum iMac, I gave the speakers to my daughter, because the internal speakers are quite good and I got tired of the clutter.
