Fit to fill with multiple clips

Created a short stop frame animation sequence, but now I want to use "fit to fill" to have it work with the audio. When I try to use "fit to fill" I get invalid edit. So then I tried copying the sequence, putting in the timeline and used shiftZ. Still not working. Any suggestions?

Fit To Fill is a 4 point edit. This means that you must have an In & Out point set on your timeline, as well as an In & Out Point set on your source clip.

  • Fit to fill with 1 frame length subclips

I have 93 single frame subclips that i need to fill 3 second length slugs with.
when i use fit to fill it only fills the first frame of each slug but not the entire slug.
Or how do I make the single frame subclips stretch to 3 second length clips

Ok I time remapped all 93 clips to 3 seconds and then fit to fill worked like a charm... anyway to time remap multiple clips at the same time?

  • Time Machine backup fills with multiple copies of files

I bought a 500 GB external drive, which I backed up iPhoto (34 GB), iTunes (61 GB) and some other large files using Time Machine. Using 'Disk Inventory X', I can see that the Time Machine backup drive is filled with 12 separate copies of my entire iPhoto library, iTunes libraries, Windows XP and other large files. Is there any setting I can set to technique to use to make it more efficient? My 500 GB gives only three days of backup!

Same answer as to your other post:
Doubtful. Something else is going on.
Most likely, that's not what you're seeing.
What appear to be duplicate files and folders are actually "multi-links" (sort of like fancy aliases) that look like multiple copies of the same things.
To find out what's really going on, download the Time Machine Buddy widget from: http://www.apple.com/downloads/dashboard/status/timemachinebuddy.html. It shows the messages from your logs for one TM backup run at a time, in a small window. The somewhat-cryptic messages will show roughly how much was copied on each backup.
Also download the TimeTracker app, from www.charlessoft.com.
It shows most of the files actually saved by TM for each backup (excluding some hidden/system files, etc.).
If you find the same files being saved again, even though they weren't changed, post back, and include the results from the widget for that particular backup. Then we can figure out what's really going on.

  • Multicam: sync angles with multiple clips.

Good time of day everyone. I have beed working on the project that involves a lot of multicam syncing and editing.
At first I was very inspired with Premiere CC new multicam audio sync feature. However, I suddenly realized that there is no way to sync multiple clips from different cameras (angles, bins, etc.) the way PluralEyes does it. Only single-clip angles to a given audiom or multiple clips from one bin to audio.
So please, correct me if I'm wrong. Is there a way to sync angles with multple clips in Preliere CC?

    Hi Sasha_Baych,
Check out this help article: http://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-pro/using/create-multi-camera-source-sequence.html
You can place all the angles into on bin, and then select the bin.
Right-click (Windows), or Ctrl-click (Mac OS) and choose > Create Multicamera Source Sequence
In the Create Multicamera Source Sequence dialog box, click "Audio."
You are now set up with angles synched by audio, similar to the way you'd expect with PluralEyes.
Will that work for you? Let us know.
    Thanks,
    Kevin

  • Dealing with multiple clips

I have a timeline with about 300 clips all cut of of a single 2 hour sequence. If I create a new folder in the project window and drag the clips into the folder they all revert to the original clip and there is no easily apparent way to covert all of them into subclips without doing it manually to each clip. I could be wrong but I believe that in FCP 7 you could just drag a clip to the project window (or whatever it was called) and it was a self contained clip. Any easy way to do this in PPro or am I going to have to manually select each clip and create a subclip?
Thank you in advance for any help you can provide.

Then please don't help by just writing stuff that has no relevance or you don't understand what is being attempted - that is not help! It would seem that the simple answer is that there there is no way to drag a clip from the timeline into a bin in the project window. Making 300 manual edits to a clip in the source window would be extremely time consuming and totally impractical. Making subclips manually would be much quicker. That is all that had to be said.
I gave you a full and complete answer with complete understanding of your issue in my post #8
    Everything was relevant.
Making subclips manually would be much quicker.
You were given a superior professional way to make subclips to do exactly that (manually) in the first place... including advice that using the Razor Tool was slow and inefficient by comparison.
Doubt you even tried the advice.Sorry it was not what you wanted to hear.
Also sorry to hear you cant make the program work-around ,...function as the others have confirmed does.
Wonder what the problem is? Let us know when you find out.

  • Trouble exporting To HD with multiple clips

Can I export my iMovie project if I'm mixing videos from my HD camera and my iphone? After going the the hour nog process of exporting twice now, it gives me and Error 49 at the end and won't export the movie. Is the reason because some of my videos are from my iphone?

I assume that your video was converted to AIC for editing in FCE ?
With all FCE projects destined for iDVD the advice is the same.
For videos up to 65 minutes, open iDVD preferences and select "Best Performance". For longer ones up to 2 hours you must choose either "Best Quality" or "Pro Quality", but these take 2 and 4 times longer to encode than "Best Performance".
Then click on your FCE timeline and select File>Export>QuickTime Movie. Do NOT use QuickTime CONVERSION . . . . . . that is mainly for internet videos.
You can deselect the "Make Movie Self-contained checkbox unless you are moving the file to another computer for burning.
That's all, apart from clicking the "Save" button.

  • Clips hang up and repeat on Blu-ray disc with multiple clips

I have developed a DVD for background videos at my office.
It has 44 clips on it.
    Only a few will play.
I have tried it on 4 different BluRay DVD players = same result.
I have burned the project 5 times = same result.
    Why does it stick?
Using the fastforward button on the remote controll shows all clips are there.
Sometimes it will play 8 or 10 clips before sticking.
Then it repeats the same 2 clips forever.
    Please help me.
    Rob

    Rob,
Could not find the screen-caps. If they are JPEG or PNG, just use the little "camera" icon in the editing page to "attach" them, or post a URL for others to view them from a server. This ARTICLE will give you some tips on screen-caps.
Thank you for the info, and the description of what you wish to have happen.
Now, what are the End Actions for each Timeline? If I understand what you want, the End Action for each Timeline should be to the next, and for the final Timeline, back to the beginning of Timeline 1. That will create the "looping."
Check carefully for any Overrides, and make sure that each is set to "Not Set."
    Good luck,

  • Multiple clips some gets leterboxed, some cropped.  Why

I am producing a demo reel with multiples clips.  Each clip is in it's own timeline.  The original clips are 16:9 with the exception of one which is 4:3.  All the clips look acceptable in the preview, although it does letter box some of the 16:9 clips.  When I burn the DVD one 16:9 clip gets letter boxed to a 4:3.
Why and how do I fix this?

    Keith,
Great news. What many do not take into account is that Encore is ONLY an authoring program and not an NLE. That is the role of PrPro. One MUST feed Encore the correct material, as it will not alter the material, beyond Transcoding for DVD/BD.

  • Easy way to mute audio on multiple clips in PRE 10?

In the process of creating my movie and experimenting with different sound tracks, I would like to temporarily mute the audio on multiple clips, but I can’t find a convenient way to do it.  I don’t want to delete the audio as I may revert back to using it.  I am aware of two methods, however both can only be used with a single clip.  (I want to do in a single operation with multiple clips).
Method 1:           Unlink audio and video, then disable audio track.
Method 2:           Right click on clip, select Audio Gain, and set gain level to -96 db.
Both of these methods are tedious when you need to apply them to many clips, and equally so if you want to revert back to the original.

You are correct that the Audio Mixer handles Tracks. It's the same thing with the Keyframes and adjustments made via Audio Mixer. That was why I suggested placing selected Clips on selected Tracks.
When I am doing heavy Audio work, I always use multiple Audio Tracks, as that allows me infinite control. I also change the names of those Audio Tracks so that I know exactly what's one each, say "Lake Ambience Dusk," "Loon Near," "Loon Far," Frogs," "Crickets," "Music," "Narration," etc.. Then each Track can be adjusted, precisely, and I can also add Track Keyframes, via the Audio Mixer, to adjust Volume of each Track. Since the Audio Mixer applies Track Keyframes (not Clip Keyframes), I do that as my final step, when I have completed my actual Cutting and Trimming. Next to prehaps final scoring, this set of adjustments is the last thing that I do.
    Good luck,

  • How can I edit multiple clips with different frame rates on the same timeline

how can I edit multiple clips with different frame rates on the same timeline

You do not want to edit material from different frame rates on one timeline. You CAN do this, but it is a very bad idea - and this is why.
Once you establish the sequence frame rate - lets say it is PAL material at 25fps, any material that you drop into the sequence other than 25 fps will have to be changed to play at 25 fps. If the material you add is NTSC (29.97), FCP will DROP 5 frames per sec to bring the frame rate down to 25 fps. Which 5 get thrown away? Every 6th one. This yields a funky cadence that becomes even more complex as as there are also interlaced fields (DV/NTSC is an interlaced format). Oh, and by the way, the image sizes are different as well. DV/PAL has 576 lines of resolution and DV/NTSC has 480. FCP has to scale up the NTSC to fit the PAL frame.
You do not want FCP adjusting these things on the fly. You want to do a thoughtful (and time consuming) conversion so that you end up with all your material in one format with the best possible image from the conversion process. Compressor can do an adequate job with Frame Controls turned on. The Natress Standards Conversion FCP plugin is another way to go. A third option is to find a post house that can do the conversion for you using a hardware based process.
The good news is, once everything is in the same format, editing it will be painless and the output process very quick.
Whatever frame rate/ image size you select, I'd suggest using ProRes for the codec. It is 4:2:2 color and will withstand color correction and composting with much more grace than any variant of DV based codecs.
    Have fun.

  • Fit to Fill not working with HD footage in a DV Pal timeline...

I'm editing some HD anamorphic footage (Apple Intermediate Codec, 1440x1080, 29.97fps) into a DV Pal timeline (720x576, 25fps).
When I try to use Fit to Fill to change the speed of the footage and make it fit an exact part of the soundtrack, I either get a still frame after rendering, or completely the wrong part of the clip (ie not the part I selected using In and Out in the Browser), and with no speed change.
The same thing happens if I try using Apple-J to change the speed...
Does anybody have an idea what I'm getting wrong? I'm in FCE HD 3.5.1
    Thankyou!

I suspect there's a problem with the frame rate mixing. I'd suggest using Nattress standards conversion software to convert one to whatever frame rate you want to work in. FCE should not be used for standards conversion.

  • How to move multiple clips with transitions?

Im still transitioning from FCP7 to FCP 10.1.2 and can't believe I have missed the lesson that explains how to move multiple clips with transitions.
Up till now I have tried several work arounds including deleting all the transitions then using the (P) Position tool to move the clips from the primary track to some track above it then re adding all the transitions.  This is a function I do on a daily basis.  Am I missing something?  Please help!
    Thank you

With some further investigation, the transitions have nothing to do with my problem.  In my case there was a tiny “Black gap slug” within the group that was preventing me from being able set it on top of another group of clips or gap someplace.  But even with the gap removed… I can move the clips on top of another group but the transitions stay behind on the primary (Magnetic)
In the screen shot you can see what happens when I move a group out of the primary (magnetic) timeline onto a gap.  All the transitions get left behind.
Ive notices that Cutting and pasting will only paste the sequence some other place on the primary (magnetic) timeline for me.
An example of why I would want to put a cropped/ resized group on top of another group is to do picture in picture effects or if I wanted to create a background behind a set of adjusted clips.

  • Clipping with multiple masks

Is there a way to clip an object with multiple masks? For example, with the outlined letters of a word?
    I'm using Illustrator CS3 on a Mac.
    Thanks,
    Eugene

    Eugene,
JPEG does not have transparency, but I don't think you really need it. All you want is for the background image to look lighter, right?
I think it would be easier to use an "Opacity Mask" rather than a clipping mask to create the effect you are after.
    To do that:
    1. Make a 75% gray rectangle the size of your photo and align it to the photo.
    2. Move the text that will contain the "solid" photo above the gray rectangle and make it white, then group the text with the gray rectangle.
    3. Select the group along with the photo and choose "Make Opacity Mask" from the Transparency flyout menu.
You can edit the opacity mask anytime, by selecting the masked group in the layers panel and clicking the opacity thumbnail in the transparency panel. To view only the opacity mask Shift-click on the thumbnail.
This should be easier to edit and export fine.

  • Fill-the-gap with multiple gaps - show right answers colored

    Hello,
    I'm using CP5 on OSX 10.6.4
I create a quiz "fill-the-gap" with multiple gaps (textfields/drop-down menu) in a single slide.
When a user doesn't fill all gaps he get the info, that he have to fill all gaps. O.K.
When he fills wrong answers he get the info, that it is not correct. But he can't see, which answers are right answers.
Has CP5 (i.e with a variable) the feature to color right answers (i.e the font turns to green) others turns to red?
Or right answers turns to non-editable textfields or drop-downs aren't available after setting the right answer.
    Ishan

    Hello,
I never used CP5 on Mac, just on Windows. So I'm not totally sure my answers will apply.
About your question to see the right answers: normally this will be done during Review, provided you did allow Review in the Quiz Settings (Allow the user to review the Quiz). You can see the message that will be showed when selecting the Review area on the stage and looking at the Properties. The messages can be edited. In the screenshot you see the default messages. For an incorrect answer both the given answer ('Your answer:...')  and the correct answer will be put in the Review area during review.
For your second questions: as far as I know, this is not possible with the default dropdown list of the Question slide for 'Fill-in-the-Blank'. It could be made possible by constructing your own Question slide, using the available objects, user variables and advanced actions.

  • Sync multiple clips with master clip

I have a multicam shoot with two stationery cameras continually recording for the entire event and a third camera roaming around, getting dozens of individual clips from different locations/angles. ALL THREE CAMERA HAVE SYNCED TIME CODE.
I don't want to treat this as a normal multicam project, since the third camera has dozens of clips (this means dozens of "camera angles" in a multicam timeline). The best way for me to edit these cameras together in post, in my view, is to sync everything up in a timeline, and do the cutting myself.
In Premiere Pro CC 7.2.2 (33), I can sync the continual recordings no problem, because they overlap. But the dozens of clips created from the third camera have to be placed manually or timecode synced one by one.
I have found a kind of a cheat. I create a multicam sequence using all 90 of my clips (synced by timecode) then open the multicam sequence in the timeline. I then manually drag all 88 clips from the third camera down into one layer.
From here, I have two options: 1, edit as a multicam shoot with only three cameras instead of 90, or 2, Create a new, empty sequence, then copy/paste from the multicam sequence to the empty one and edit manually.
Here's my question, now that I've found a cheat: how can I better sync multiple clips with no overlapping timecode to a master clip with master timecode?

I have identical real time TC for all 3 cameras, and two cams are continually recording. the third is roaming.
Here's a link to a past project: News & Events :: PCC's Christmas Lights Spectacular :: Pensacola Christian College
As you can see, one is locked, one is on a tripod getting closeups, zooms, and pans, and the third is moving around getting various angles. The two on a tripos are left continually recording, but the roamer starts and stops (it's handheld, so it's easier to just start/stop).
@shooternz, could you elaborate on your method a bit? You seem to indicate that you can just drop the third camera's clips in the sequence based on Time Code. I'm not familiar with TC Panels or TC Markers.
As for not all of them being used... I do have several dozen clips left over the course of a half-hour concert... :/
