Fixing bluetooth in windows 8.1 and changing the way windows update works

Hello, this is a message for Microsoft, can you please fix the Bluetooth in the setting in Windows 8.1. Because I can not connect my devices on it to play music. Also, my second suggestion would be for Windows update. First of all,
Windows tells me that it will install update automatically but It's not true. Everyday I check to see if there is an update on the pc. So change the way windows update works because It is a bit confusing. In other words, try to do like windows 7 if you
can, or if not It is not a big deal. But a least try to have a solution for this issue and the Bluetooth also.

Please change the way window tabs are handled

Hi,
I like how SQL Developer uses the width of monitors well so I can have a relatively narrow main window (i.e. the editor window).
The problem with having it narrow is that the tab bar becomes narrower as well so you don't need many open tabs before it becomes cluttered.
I would like it if the tabs were moved below the tool bar and would use the whole width of the application. Also, I would like to be able to turn of the "x" to close them because I tend to accidentally click them.
Basically I would like to see something like in modern browsers (like firefox).

How can I change the way mail delete works?

Before we "upgraded" to Mountain Lion, if I deleted a message, it would automatically go to the next message, no matter what. Now if I mark a message as unread, then go to the next message, then decide to delete that, it would automatically go to the next (third) message in the list. Now, after deleting the second message, it pops up to the first message instead of going to the third. It does this if the third message is read or unread, no difference. How can I stop this. It is MOST aggravating.
BTW, it is saying my "product" is a macbook with OS 10.6.8, but it really 10.8.3

I've recently had an upgrade to 10.8.5 and now have this problem too.
The behaviour seems to be:
I select an email, part way through my inbox, read it and delete / file it.
If there is an unread email above the just deleted one (adjacent or way above and off the page) then the next message shown will be the one above the one I moved.
If there is no unread email above then the next message shown will be the one below.
I usually sort in date (oldest up) and work down from some point to the recent ones. Occasionally I'll try and work through all the mail from a given sender. This change in behaviour makes both these use cases hard work.
If I'm trying to deal with the easy mails in a short gap this slows me down. I know the unread ones are there, I don't need mail to be semi-smart at me.
I've tried with com.apple.mail IgnoreSortOrderWhenSelectingAfterDelete set to zero and to one and the behaviour is the same. Anyone know of a switch to get the simple "working through a list in logical order" behaviour back?

My ipod nano isn't syncing when I try and change the setting in manually, but is however syncing when I launch the itunes by plugging it in. I'm wondering if anyone has had this issue and/or had been able to fix the problem?

You need to look at Mac's iTunes, check  > System Preferences > iCloud.
If you use iCloud for Calendar, Contacts then turn off those items in iTunes, Info tab with your iPhone connected and selected.

For gmail you could try unlocking your account here: https://accounts.google.com/b/0/DisplayUnlockCaptcha. Don't know about hotmail.

This is very incovenient as I never know if my call is going through, and sometimes when call isn't answered immediately I have to look at my phone to cancel the call. Is there a new setting I am missing?

Sometimes you turn off your Bluetooth and then back on and it doesn't reconnect with your phone unless you go into the menu. Either way doesn't help much if someone calls you while you're driving and you realize your iPhone is stuck on headphone input.

Change the popup window size in the "optional label with help" template?

G'Day Apex/javascript gurus,
I am using Apex 4.0 where I coded an HTML table for help text in one item. Now, when an user click for help in this item then the HTML table is bigger than the size of the pop up window so the client has to re size it a bit to see it fully. To fix this, I tried to create a new "optional level with help" template where I can control the size of the pop up window and make it bigger to fit my HTML table so the client does not have to resize but I could not find any parameter in the original template:

Hello Carlos,
You can overload the APEX javascript with your own, on the page you want it to happen. You can do that in the Page Definition - Function and Global Variable Declaration.
Copy the below code into there and change the width and height of the popup.

How to resize and change the resolution of a batch of photos using Automator

I searched for a long time tonight looking for the answer to this (seemingly) simple question:

These are just the links on this site - I found them all over the place at MacRumors, Apple Tips, Mac Help, etc.
You can actually manage this in Automator.
Here are the steps that worked for me:
Create an Automator APPLICATION - not a workflow (this is due to the way that I'm batch converting images - workflows might be ok for some cases)
Step 1 is Copy Finder Items
My flow inserts an SD card, opens the DCIM folder that my Nikon creates, selecting the images that I click (command + click to multi-select) and once I have the photos highlighted, I drag them onto this Automator App we're creating.

As a result - I want to copy the originals to my computer as step 1. I don't touch the originals on the SD card (and cards are cheap so I tend to leave them on the cards as well)
Step 2 is the Scale Images action - you can search the library for this and find it quickly. For my part, I found that scaling images to about 38.8 percent of their size on the SD card is good for uploading to a blog. Change this value to whatever you wish.
Step 3 is Run Shell Script - and here is where we marry the brilliance found at this link with our script.If you have a hard time reading the text in the image, it is as follows:

Save this application (I named mine "Format Photos")
Place the application inside the target folder where you want the images to end up. I do this because when I have the SD card window open, I can also open my "Photos" window and see my App sitting there. I select my images as I mentioned and drag them on top of this app. The app copies the originals and the conversions into the folder.
NOTES: When you open a converted pic in Preview, you will see Resolution = 300 dpi if you go to Tools --> Adjust Size... This reading is explained by another brilliant discussion as sips only touches the JFIF properties inside the file's MetaData. However, if you look at the bottom of the Adjust Size... window, you'll see the image size is probably around 500 kb (give or take depending on the original). My goal was to get the images down from the 3.0 MB I shoot at to around 500 kb. Therefore even though the MetaData still thinks that it is 300 DPI according to Preview, it has been changed to 72 (open it in some other applications mentioned at the links and you'll find different readings - it all depends on what the application reads from the Meta).
This does not rename the files, so you'll get DSC_1000.jpg and DSC_1000 copy.jpg in all likelihood. If that annoys you, add a step into the Automator Application that renames the file after the "Run Shell Script" action has run, and you can have each file renamed according to some convention that you like.
This took a heck of a lot longer than I expected - so I decided to put in the effort to share this with the community and save others the hassle.

PPI is pixels per inch of the image. It is difficult to increase resolution as you are trying to add data that is not there.
But for printing purposes what you want is dpi or dots per inch.
The image processor either accessed from Bridge (tools/photoshp) or PS is a good way to change a batch of images.

If not, as I know, there is no natural way to change it.
If yes, on the latest version of Lync 2013 client, there is a new option “IM” on Lync client “Options” list. And you need to change the default Font and Color of IM in the interface of “IM”.

How can one edit a .gif file graphics background and change the fonts in Photoshop Elements 13?

I am trying to change the color and fonts of some of my web sites .gif files. Can I change the color to another hexadecimal color and change the fonts of the letters in Photoshop 13? I am using Windows 7 and heard that you could save the .gif file to another format, edit it, then change the file back to a .gif file. Is this true? If so, how do you do it? The file just has a solid color with the letters "Firm " on it. No animation.

You can edit a gif without changing the format, but once you save the file as a gif the text becomes part of the image, not text anymore, so you would need to clone or heal away the existing text and then create a new text layer and use save for web to create a new gif.
For access to the most editing tools, while the file is open in the editor go to image>mode and change it from index color to RGB. Saving as a gif will change it back to index mode.

I don't believe mounting the hard drive should be necessary, unless you have several external drives and want your computer to recognise them as folders, rather than drives. I've never had to mount a hard drive, ever. If you don't know how to do it, then it shouldn't be necessary now.
Try this:
Prepare iTunes so that it can see the external drive.
Make a note of which drive-letter the external drive has been allocated. (Look in Windows Exploer)
Look at the file location for a song. Make sure it plays (and therefore that iTunes has found it). Highlight it and select File/Get Info/Summary>Where: and make a note of the drive letter for that song.
Close and shut down the computer.
The next time you turn the computer on again, connect the external drive
Before you start iTunes - check the external drive in Windows Explorer. Is it ready, does it have the same drive-letter that it had last time? Can you go into the drive and see the files on it?
Once you can, start iTunes. (If the drive lettter has changed, you need to work out why before going any further.)
If iTunes fails to find your external drive, you need to check where iTunes is looking for your Library.
Select the same song you checked before (presumably iTunes can no longer find it). Follow the procedure for locating it. You should be able to see where iTunes thinks the file is. It's the drive that counts. Which drive letter is iTunes looking at? Is it the same one that it was previously (which should also be the same one that the drive has now).

How do I change the default window color?

Having white screens is too bright for my eyes!! I always change the default window color in Windows (hiss hiss) to a light shade of gray and that setting carries thru to all windows (i.e. Word, Excel, notepad....). Is it possible to do a similar thing with Tiger? I see that I can choose between a couple of "schemes" from a "Desktop and Dashboard Settings" area (or similar - i don't have my mac here now so can't look to see the proper name) but I see no way to alter colors within those schemes. If you can tell me how to change the default color for my windows I will be awfully happy. thanks.

Personally, I wouldn't trust it, and I don't hesitate to try these things most of the time even though they sometimes cause problems. But I've used Unsanity products before and they all require installing a preference pane called APE; Application Enhancement module, and that thing caused me lots of problems for my system, lots of crashes and flakiness. I won't use it again.
But I'm sure there are lots of people using it happily, but if you don't feel confident in dealing with system problems stay away from anything that adds a system preference pane or goes up in the top menu bar at the top (Apple icons excepted) or has to start up with the system.
