Flash Builder crashes Flash Professional CS6 on save
Hi,
I'm using Flash Builder 4.7 and Flash Professional CS6 for game development. When I'm saving an action script file in Flash Builder it sometimes crashes Flash CS6. It happens several times a day and it's really annoying. I'm working on iMac with Mac OS X 10.9.1. I've also checked that I've installed all available updates.
Please tell me how to fix that problem,
Regards
Here are some things that help me:
Open the version of Flash I want to use to compile the project first
Turn off Build Project Automatically and use Ctrl-B instead so you're just compiling when it makes sense for you rather than at every change.
Shared asset libraries may cause crashes during the "updating assets" phase, so avoid them if you can. If you really need them, open the file in Flash before you try to publish from FB.

Flash Builder or Flash Professional?
Hey,
Just wondering on your opinion of which should is better to use? Flash Builder or Flash Professional?
Personally I want to drop flash profesiional and just keep developing in flash builder but before I do I want to know if I will lose any advantages or gain, and know if this is a good decision?
I can code everything in flash builder good and love to work in the flash builder environment on desktop games AND mobile games sometimes.
So what do you think I should do? Whats your opinion.
ThanksThank you... I guess I have a month or a year or so in front of me with what I have now, so I'm not looking to delve at this point if there is no advantage. Thanks for your opinion and time.
I was also looking for a bit on vector graphics to import into flash for masks etc, and found another of your posts somewhwere that gave some insight... Having just installed Fireworks, I then found I can do the same from PaintShop - what I found was I can "break-apart" an image (in Flash) if I need to snip a little or can use png's directly as masks which I didn't realise before.
So thanks again Mr K -

Intermittent Flash Builder Crashes in OSX 10.8.1
Flash Builder 4.6 has been crashing intermittently since I upgraded to OSX 10.8.1. Sometimes it will crash after 10 minutes, other times it will remain stable for a couple of hours, but it always crashes eventually. The crash doesn't appear to be triggered by any specific operation or action. I have several OSX crash logs that all say the same thing:
Date/Time: 2012-08-24 10:40:26.061 -0700
OS Version: Mac OS X 10.8.1 (12B19)
Report Version: 10
Crashed Thread: 8 Java: VM Thread
Exception Type: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGBUS)
Exception Codes: KERN_PROTECTION_FAILURE at 0x0000000000000064
I can post the full crash report if necessary.
Please help me resolve this issue.
-AaronYes, this happened to both my MacBook Pro and iMac after upgrading to ML and it is very annoying. I was hoping for a fix in 10.8.1 but no luck. This has been pretty widely reported so I was shocked when it was not addressed. I guess I have to call AppleCare and open a ticket.
Ok, enough of that. I tried everything - MTU setting, new location in network settings, taking the systemconfiguration folder (/library/preferences/systemconfiguration) and deleting it, and updating my routers firmware and none, none of them worked.
It seems, at least in my case, to be tied to 802.11n and possibly the 5ghz band. I disabled this on my router and am only using 802.11g and this and only this has cleared up the issue. This is really disappointing but at least I am not stopping and starting wifi every 3 minutes.
I hope this helps. -

did you manage to resolve the issue? Or have you reported it to jira?
I am expriencing similar problems with fb 4.6 on mac os 6.6. Flex crushes all of sudden when opening MXML file in project. I have found that this is somewhat related to the graphic card in use. If i swith card to "discrete only", open flex, reopen project (with all files closed), clean and rebuild - I am then able to open MXML with no problems.

Flash Builder crash with error log
I started a trial FB 4.6 a couple of weeks ago. Yesterday FB started crashing arbitrarily while simply using the editor. Error log entries (from workspace/.metadata/.log) like the snippet below immediately precede the crash. FB is open from anywhere between 10 seconds to 20 minutes before crashing.
Crashing: the whole Flash Builder UI locks up and needs to be force-quit.
Problems seemed to start after I did these new things; installed Android USB driver for my device, debugged on the device, and also tried the Profile feature. Doing those things seemed to work fine, and I otherwise don't know what they'd have to do with the message(s like the one) below. At crash time, the file noted is not there, instead there is single file:
"...\.metadata\.plugins\com.adobe.flexbuilder.codemodel\SwcCache\swcPaths.cache".
However as I browse the .plugins folder looking for files related to this problem, I've seen folders/files suddenly appear and disappear, not related to any build process.
I've tried rebooting. I'm going to try changing workspaces. Here's a log snip:
... !ENTRY com.adobe.flexbuilder.project 4 43 2012-01-26 11:32:18.858 !MESSAGE Cannot load nonexistent library swf C:\stuffo7\FlexMoreWorkspace\.metadata\.plugins\com.adobe.flexbuilder.codemodel\SwcCache\ mobile.swc-293353047\library.swf for swc C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Flash Builder 4.6\sdks\4.6.0\frameworks\themes\Mobile\mobile.swc !STACK 0 java.lang.Exception at com.adobe.flexbuilder.project.internal.FlexProjectCore.createErrorStatus(FlexProjectCore. java:1019) at com.adobe.flexbuilder.project.internal.FlexProjectCore.log(FlexProjectCore.java:867) at com.adobe.flexbuilder.util.logging.GlobalLogImpl.log(GlobalLogImpl.java:56) at com.adobe.flexbuilder.util.logging.GlobalLog.log(GlobalLog.java:41) at com.adobe.flexide.designitems.loaders.LibrarySWCLoader.loadNextSWF(LibrarySWCLoader.java: 111) at com.adobe.flexide.designitems.loaders.LibrarySWCLoader.access$5(LibrarySWCLoader.java:96) at com.adobe.flexide.designitems.loaders.LibrarySWCLoader$SwcLoaderCallbacks.SWFLoaded(Libra rySWCLoader.java:218) at sun.reflect.NativeMethodAccessorImpl.invoke0(Native Method) at sun.reflect.NativeMethodAccessorImpl.invoke(Unknown Source) at sun.reflect.DelegatingMethodAccessorImpl.invoke(Unknown Source) at java.lang.reflect.Method.invoke(Unknown Source) at com.adobe.flexide.playerview.DesignCall.invoke(DesignCall.java:96) at com.adobe.flexide.playerview.PlayerListenerHost.notifyDesignCall(PlayerListenerHost.java: 173) at com.adobe.flexide.playerview.PlayerListenerHost.callFunction(PlayerListenerHost.java:47) at com.adobe.flexide.embeddedplayer.PlayerNativeCallbacks.CallJavaFunction(PlayerNativeCallb acks.java:48) at org.eclipse.swt.internal.win32.OS.DispatchMessageW(Native Method) at org.eclipse.swt.internal.win32.OS.DispatchMessage(OS.java:2530) at org.eclipse.swt.widgets.Display.readAndDispatch(Display.java:3752) at org.eclipse.ui.internal.Workbench.runEventLoop(Workbench.java:2696) at org.eclipse.ui.internal.Workbench.runUI(Workbench.java:2660) at org.eclipse.ui.internal.Workbench.access$4(Workbench.java:2494) at org.eclipse.ui.internal.Workbench$7.run(Workbench.java:674) at org.eclipse.core.databinding.observable.Realm.runWithDefault(Realm.java:332) at org.eclipse.ui.internal.Workbench.createAndRunWorkbench(Workbench.java:667) at org.eclipse.ui.PlatformUI.createAndRunWorkbench(PlatformUI.java:149) at com.adobe.flexbuilder.standalone.FlashBuilderApplication.start(FlashBuilderApplication.ja va:108) at org.eclipse.equinox.internal.app.EclipseAppHandle.run(EclipseAppHandle.java:196) at org.eclipse.core.runtime.internal.adaptor.EclipseAppLauncher.runApplication(EclipseAppLau ncher.java:110) at org.eclipse.core.runtime.internal.adaptor.EclipseAppLauncher.start(EclipseAppLauncher.jav a:79) at org.eclipse.core.runtime.adaptor.EclipseStarter.run(EclipseStarter.java:344) at org.eclipse.core.runtime.adaptor.EclipseStarter.run(EclipseStarter.java:179) at sun.reflect.NativeMethodAccessorImpl.invoke0(Native Method) at sun.reflect.NativeMethodAccessorImpl.invoke(Unknown Source) at sun.reflect.DelegatingMethodAccessorImpl.invoke(Unknown Source) at java.lang.reflect.Method.invoke(Unknown Source) at org.eclipse.equinox.launcher.Main.invokeFramework(Main.java:622) at org.eclipse.equinox.launcher.Main.basicRun(Main.java:577) at org.eclipse.equinox.launcher.Main.run(Main.java:1410)

Message was edited by: tedalde2 (define crashing)Apparently related to switching workspaces... the error log identifies a path to an old workspace I changed out of weeks ago. I created a new workspace and moved the project (just the source, etc, not the settings) into it. been running fine for a while now... though funny how this problem didn't show up until yesterday.

When I launch Flash Builder 4.6 (on Win 7 64bit), I immediately get a fatal error that causes the program to cease loading. The error message references the .log file which has the following info:

Any ideas what I can do? I've been using it for about 2 weeks without any problems. Then suddenly it started happening a couple days ago. After I clear the error message and launch Flash Builder again, it seems to load fine. But now it tends to hang when I run the debugger... not always, just sometimes. I've let it sit for upwards of a half hour before killing the process manually.
Any ideas? Should I reload Flash Builder?I see this error often in the Eclipse 3.7 error log when using the Flex Builder 4.6 plugin. The error log gets spammed with 10+ of these at a time. I have no solution. However, I have not having the other issues you are having.

Launch flash builder from flash cs5 don't work
hi
I have a trial version of flash builder (eclipse plug-in) and registered flash cs5 pro
I'm trying to open a new AS3 class like in this tutorial: http://tv.adobe.com/watch/learn-flash-professional-cs5/using-flash-pro-and-flash-builder-t ogether/
and it doesn't work.
at first it did asked if I want to edit the file in flash builder or not, and it didnt work.
now it won't even ask.
what can I do?
and also I cant open a flash proffessional project in flash builder, it says "This feature requires Adobe Flash CS5 or higher to be installed."
but it is installed!
frustrated...I gave this a shot, using CS5, and when I started a new AS3 file I got the appropriate prompt asking me which application should edit my file...
Flash Pro
Flash Builder
When I chose Flash Builder, (which I had already running), it opened the new AS3 file there with no problems. Interestingly, when I closed FB, and with Flash Pro created a new AS3 class, I wasn't prompted (and the AS file opened in Flash Pro) - so it does require that FB be running, or else Flash Pro will be the default editor.
For the issue of Flash no longer prompting you "Who" will open a new file, you can change that here:
Edit > Preferences > ActionScript > Several items down is the Class editor. Change that to Flash Builder
If you still have problems...Are you able to successfully launch Flash Builder 4 by itself? Or has the trial expired?
Last but not least, it's worth mentioning another fantastic AS editor (in case you don't really need FB, and/or your trial runs out):

Not Working - PMD 1.1, Flash Builder 4, Flash Project
I have a Flash Actionscript project on Flash Builder 4 and after installing PMD and setting command line tools in preferences. I right clicked on src selected FlexPMD -> Run FlexPMD, Flex PMD View opens immediatelly, but nothing is there, just an empty window.
Is it even supposed to work with non Flex projects?Hi
make sure to read this thread http://forums.adobe.com/thread/537410?tstart=30
Basically if there's a white space on the path of your FlexPMD installation, workspace or project the plugin will fail.
This has been fixed in the trunk version and will be released very soon
Cheers

How to Create a trigger code for turning on light bulbs in flash and animate images professional cs6
hi,
i designed a very interactive music website in illustrator and photoshop and i am trying to animate the main page design in flash professional and eventually publish it as HTML5. There are couple of questions i need to ask before starting
1) should i import my design in differnet layers from illustrator into flash professional in order to make it easier to isolate and animate specific parts of the web page?
2) i want to have a roll over effect that allows certain features in the page to turn on and off when the mouse hovers over them. can you explain how to do that? any tutorial videos i could follow
3) what format should i use when importing my illustrator design into flash professional
4) how should i animate the content pop out from the safe box into the main screen in flash professional (i have never used this program before, so i will be going off video tutorials and whatever suggestions/help you would have)
**The idea is to have a content frame fly out of the safe into the screen (the size will increase rapidly and it will fade into the screen as well while rotating 360 degrees for one revolution). The content is a basic rectangular frame i designed in illustrator. The body of this frame will be transparent allowing me to embed the main page features into it eg music, videos, bio etc. All this will be done in the later process, the main issue is figuring out how to animate the content frame into the screen and also creating a click feature that allows the content to fly back into the safe and then the safe closing in.
Secondly, the trigger code rollover effect that allows certain features light to turn on when the mouse hovers over it and turn over when its not.****I think you'll get most flexibility by turning on the feature that lets you keep your Illustrator layers as Flash layers. You'll also want to check the box that lets you make an Illustrator object into a MovieClip for anything that you want to interact with or address through code.
Add an event listener for MOUSE_OVER that triggers whatever functions you need to create to turn on the features. This means that your object that you will mouse over will need to be a MC, as well as any other objects that will be addressed (for example, calling play()) will need to be a MC. You'll want to have a matching MOUSE_OUT handler that stops MC's, hides them, or whatever.
You should probably organize your Illustrator file so that the objects you need to address are on their own layers. This includes nested objects. Name things informatively. Remember, if the first import doesn't give you exactly what you want, you don't have to save the change--you can edit your settings or the Illustrator file and try again.
Look into motion tweens. I highly recommend the books "How to Cheat at Flash" and "Animation with Scripting." I don't really think the way they tell you to script will advance your career if you want to be a software architect, but if you just want to animate the occasional widget, it's fine. -
I have logged this bug at https://bugs.adobe.com/jira/browse/FB-26219 but did not get any response
Please goto https://bugs.adobe.com/jira/browse/FB-26219 to see screenshots
1.Create a Flex library project
2.Set its output folder other than default e.g. D:\libs
3.Add the output folder D:\libs in library path of this project
4.Compile the project, FB generates a .swc in the output folder.
5.Either
re-launch FB
OR
Close the project and then open itWhere will I find the error log?
Since then, something went terribly wrong with my CS4 Web Premium installation. On launching, each application would bring up a license screen. Once clicked, the screen would disappear and the application wouldn't load. Reinstalling didn't help at all so, in the end, I uninstalled and reinstalled on a new PC but, of course, I have now exceeded my activation quota since I couldn't deactivate my previous installation.
What should I do? -
Flash Builder and Flash IDE integration
hi,
one of the main reasons for me to get the new release of the flex builder would
be the possibility to use the IDE as coding environment for my flash projects.
as the editor of f4 is still a mess, i am very curious if adobe now implemented
the workflow into this release.
is anyone aware of that?
can i now (seamless, hehe) code my projects in FB4 while developing assets
and applications in flash4?
(still using Flashdevelop as an alternative, but honestly the workflow is crap
if you´re working under mac)...
thx for your answers
tuxHello,
While I did see a demo of FB4, I came up with a thought about the IDE integration and that would be to take ALL the IDE's and integrate them, give me the ability to swap at top via drop down box or menu bar which IDE I want to work in.
Simply create the consistent frame work and load the additional DLLs etc for each program you own/pruchase.
I want and IDE for Flash that is the same IDE as CF. Now obviously some things will not be the same, but hey it would be closer and to me much more efficient then have three or 4 different apps open at the same time going back and forth as needed to create whatever I am working on.
If I am in Flash and need to swap to CF to tweek the CFC being used, I simply click the drop down or menu bar inside the IDE and viola there I am. I think this would cut down on a tramendous amount of overhead used by loading so many different IDE's.
An example of this is I use CF8 inside Dreamweaver CS3, I have to make an additional step to get to the help file. If we have an IDE that is the master framework per se and I am using Flash and click help it should open the help for Flash. If I am using CF then it should open the CF help files etc.

Flash cs6 professional Vs Flash Builder
When it comes to creating apps for tablet devices .. what is the main differences between flash builder and flash cs6 porfessional? .
thanks
mohdIn my opinion, Flash Builder is a better tool for coding and Flash CS6 better (as in possible to use) for building visuals. Plus, and speaking as a coder who can't draw for toffee, Flash Builder gives you the option of using the full might of Flex... which has grown and grown and got better and better each year.
As a coder, I hardly ever open Flash Cs6. I know of more visual developers for whom the reverse is true.

Flash Builder 4.5 crashes frequently with heap space error
We have a reasonably complex AIR application, but by and large I would not say it is enormous. It compiles down to an AIR file that is around 6MB. It is broken out into about 6 different modules. We have given the java VM the maximum RAM that it will utilize without complaining (somewhere around 768MB. You can't go to 1024MB or it blows up). Yet, Flash Builder crashes very frequently when trying to build, generally with "java heap space" errors. We are developing on Windows 7.
I had hoped Flash Builder 4.5 would be an improvement over Flash Builder 4 in this regard. It in fact got worse.
Is there any hope of seeing action on this?
KevinHi Kevin,
Eliminating this completely is definitely on our radar and a high priority.
For now, there are a couple of things you can do to reduce the occurence of out of memory errors when building:
1. Move all embedded fonts and images into an AS class in a library project.
2. Edit the file: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Flash Builder 4.5\eclipse\plugins\com.adobe.flexbuilder.project_4.5.1.313231\.options in wordpad. Setting, useGlobalSwcCache and useApplicationCache to false will reduce the overall memory consumed, but decrease performance.
P.S: Please note that 2 is not officially supported or tested. If those options were, they would have been in preferences.

KevinHi Kevin,
I've run into issues with previous versions of Flash Builder (actually when I saw this I was using Flex Builder) and overriding the default allocations seemed to help a bit: http://www.rphelan.com/2008/03/27/tweaking-compiler-performance-in-flex-builder/. I'd recommend jumping over to the Flash Builder forums and posting the question to see if anyone has any up to date advice.
Thanks,
Chris
