• Flash Builder 4.5 SDK Problem while reading/saving Data/Text from XML

Hi,
I'm working on a FLASH BUILDER 4.5 Project. Previously I was working on FLEX 3 with SDK 3. Now I have shifted my Project to FLASH BUILDER 4.5 with SDK (Apache Flex 4.11).
In this project, I have few links with me, clicking on which opens a TAB, and the respective Link data (XML DATA) loads into the Respective TAB. I'm using Flash Builder 4.5 currently and Apache Flex 4.11 SDK. When I use Previous Version of SDK (SDK 3), then the Data loads fine... but when I use higher version SDK (4.6 or 4.11), then the data starts to break, for instance:
When I click on link, i.e. CLICK FOR THE VERY FIRST TIME, the Data Shows like:

Link 1 body text comes here

Again, when I click on the same link for SECOND time, the Data Shows like:

<P ALIGN="LEFT">Link 1 body text comes here</P>

Again, when I click on the same link for THIRD time, the Data Shows like:

<P ALIGN="LEFT">&lt;P ALIGN=&quot;LEFT&quot;&gt;Link 1 body text comes here&lt;/P&gt;</P>

I got stuck inot this issue very badly. Any help would be apreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Hello everyone -
Since I last posted an interesting update happened. I tested my Flex application again, it is calling a Jetty Server that returns a JSON object, in different BROWSERS. I disabled HTTPS for now, and the crossdomain.xml policy file is wide open for testing (ie. allowing every request to return data). So the app accessing the data using HTTP only. Browsers - IE, Opera, Firefox and Chrome. Each browser contained the SAME application, revision of the Flash Player (10.3.183.10 debugger for firefox, chrome, opera, safari PC; 11.0.1.129 consumer version in IE9,) take a look at the screen shot (safari not shown although the result was the same as IE and chrome)
Note that Opera and Firefox returned successful values (i.e. successful JSON objects) using the same code generated from the Data Services Wizard. Chrome, IE and, Safari failed with an Internal error. So I am left wondering - WHY? Is it something with the Flash Player? the Browsers? the Flex SDK? Any thoughts are appreciated. Again, the code is found in the original thread above.

• Flash Builder 4 List controls trimming spaces from XML node values

I'm trying to migrate my Flex 3 application to Flash builder 4. One issue that I have is that one of my datasources returns a list of cities and regions. To get the regions to display in the correct order in Flex 3, a space was added to to their name in the database (ie. "West", "Northwest" are stored in the database as " West" and " Northwest" so that when sorted by the sql query they would appear at the top and gets translated to XML to fill in a list box or combo box in my Flex 3 application. I have functions that take that selected city or region value from the combo box and queries the database for various performance metrics. In migrating to Flash Builder 4, I noticed that the spaces in the region names no longer appear in the combo boxes. When I show the data in a datagrid, the spaces are still there but when populating a combo box or list box, the leading space gets trimmed. This is an issue since if a user selects the value "West", it doesn't find it in the database since it is listed as " West". This wasn't an issue in Flex Buider 3. Is there a work around or parameter that I can set to force the combo box or list box to show the data as-is versus having it trim off the leading spaces for my regions?
Also, a stupid question, in Flex 3, you were able to find the select value of a combo box by using comboBox.text. What is the equivalent in Flash Builder 4? Do I need to do comboBox.selectedItem.Region.toString() now or is there a shortcut to pull the text from the combo box?

I think you want this:
private function onLoadPortfolioData(event:ResultEvent):void
var obj:XMLList = event.result.img as XMLList;
if (obj.length > 0)
_imgCollection = new XMLListCollection(obj);
pictureList.dataProvider = _imgCollection;

• Cannot edit the manifest.xml in flash builder extension builder 2.1

In flash builder I installed the extension builder 2.1 to build a photoshop extension. The basic structure created automatically the manifest.xml file but i cannot edit this file in the editor and If I edit outside of the flash builder it does not reflect the changes.
What I want is to add an icon for my extension.

SOLVED!!
===========
When creating an adobe extension project in Adobe extension Builder with Flash Builder 4.6, a folder ".stage-extension" is created but not listed in the directory in the Package Explorer Tab. However the manifest.xml file in the bin-debug folder is shown giving the impression that it could be edited.
To edit the manifest.xml file, locate the location of your project and find: YourPorjectName>.stage-extension>CSXS>manifest.xml
Edit this manifest.xml for the changes to apply.

Hey guys, I'm brand new to this as well and you probably don't need an answer now but I found this anyway:
Flex Builder and Flash Builder both function as Plug-ins to Eclipse, though each also comes in a "stand-alone" flavor - which is still eclipse, but with a lot of the Eclipse functionality torn out for a smaller footprint.

Windows Server® 2008 (32 bits), o

• Generate build_config.xml / configuration equivalent to Flash Builder

I develop an AIR app where we code/debug within Flash Builder but when we generate publicly downloadable builds, it is done via command-line scripts. I'm currently seeing a bug which shows up in the command-line builds but that I cannot reproduce inside Flash Builder. Is there a way to generate a build_config.xml and air-config.xml file that would be equivalent to what is being used by Flash Builder to see if the issue is due to a compilation difference?

I had the same problem and found the answer by guessing.
Remove the SystemPassword line from your config.xml. Worked for me.

Having same issue here. In my case I'm just trying to place a local video file; hear audio, t see no video running it within Flash Builder and the ADL simulator on my Mac. It's very frustrating that everything Abobe has posted on this is targeted toward the Flash player runnung inside a damn browser... don't they realize we need a IOS solution for the 1000s of iPhones and iPads out there? Very frustrated with this.

• Flash Builder 4.5 Data Services Wizard, setting up REST service call returns Internal Error Occurred

Dear all -
I am writing with the confidence that someone will be able to assist me.
I am using the Flash Builder Data Services Wizard to access a Server that utilizes REST type calls and returns JSON objects. The server is a JETTY server and it apparantly already works and is returning JSON objects (see below for example). It is both HTTP and HTTPS enabled, and right now it has a cross-domain policy file that is wide open (insecure but its not a production server, it's internal).
The crossdomain file looks like this:

<cross-domain-policy>
<allow-http-request-headers-from domain="*" headers="*" secure="false"   />
<allow-access-from domain="*" to-ports="*" secure="false"/>
<site-control permitted-cross-domain-policies="master-only" />
</cross-domain-policy>
The crossdomain file is in the jetty server's root directory and is browseable via HTTP and HTTPS (i.e. browsing to it returns the xml)
Now before all of you say that using wizards sucks (generally) I thought I would utilize the FB Data Services Wizard as at least it would provide a template for which I could build additional code against, or replace and improve the code it produces.
With that in mind, I browse to the URL of the Jetty Server with any web browser (for example, Google Chrome, Firefox or IE) with a URL like this (the URL is a little confidential at the moment, but the structure is the same)
https://localhost:somePort/someKey/someUser/somePassword/someTask
*somePort is the SSL port like 8443
*someKey is a key to access the URL's set of services
returns a JSON object as a string in the web browser and it appears like the following:
{"result":success,"value":"whatEverTheValueShould"}
Looks like the JSON string/object is valid.
I went through the Flash Builder Data Services Wizard to set up HTTP access to this server. The information that I filled in is described below:
Do you want to use a Base URL as a prefix for all operation URLs?
YES
Base URL:
https://localhost:8443/someKey/
Name                    : someTask
Method                    : POST
Content-Type: application/x-www-form-urlencoded
URL                              : {someUser}/{somePassword}/someTask
Service Name: SampleRestapi
Services Package: services.SampleRestapi
datatype objects: valueObjects:
Completing the wizard, I run the Test Operation command. Remember, no authentication is needed to get a JSON string.
It returns:
InvocationTargetException: Unable to connect to the URL specified
I am thinking - okay, but the URL IS browseable (as I originally was able to browse to it, as noted above).
I continue to test the service by creating a Flex application that accepts a username and password in a form. when the form is submitted, the call to the service is invoked and an event handler returns the result. The code is below (with some minor changes to mask the actual source).

<s:Application xmlns:fx="http://ns.adobe.com/mxml/2009"
xmlns:s="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/spark"
xmlns:mx="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/mx"
xmlns:SampleRestapi="services.SampleRestapi.*"
minWidth="955" minHeight="600">
<fx:Script>

import mx.controls.Alert;
import mx.rpc.events.ResultEvent;
protected function button_clickHandler(event:MouseEvent):void
isUserValidResult.token = SampleRestAPI.isUserValid(userNameTextInput.text,passwordTextInput.text);
protected function SampleRestAPI_resultHandler(event:ResultEvent):void
// TODO Auto-generated method stub
// print out the results
txtAreaResults.text = event.result.message as String;
// txtAreaResults.appendText( "headers \n" + event.headers.toString() );

</fx:Script>
<fx:Declarations>
<SampleRestapi:SampleRestAPI id="SampleRestAPI"
fault="Alert.show(event.fault.faultString + '\n' + event.fault.faultDetail)"
result="SampleRestAPI_resultHandler(event)"
showBusyCursor="true"/>
<s:CallResponder id="isUserValidResult"/>

</fx:Declarations>
<s:Form defaultButton="{button}">
<s:FormItem label="UserName">
<s:TextInput id="userNameTextInput" text="q"/>
</s:FormItem>
<s:FormItem label="Password">
<s:TextInput id="passwordTextInput" text="q"/>
</s:FormItem>
<s:Button id="button" label="IsUserValid" click="button_clickHandler(event)"/>
<s:FormItem  label="results:">
<s:TextArea id="txtAreaResults"/>
</s:FormItem>
</s:Form>
</s:Application>
It's a simple application to be sure. When I run it , I get the following returned in the text area field txtAreaResults:
An Internal Error Occured.
Which is equivalent to the following JSON string being returned:
{"success":false,"value":"An Internal Error Occured"}
It appears that the call is being made, and that a JSON object is being returned... however it does not return the expected results?
Again the URL constructed is the same:
https://www.somedomain.com:somePort/someKey/someUser/somePassword/someTask
So I am wondering what the issue could be:
1) is it the fact that I am browsing the test application from an insecure (http://) web page containing the Flex application and it is accessing a service through https:// ?
2) is the JSON string structurally correct? (it appears so).
3) There is a certificate enabled for HTTPs. it does not match the test site I am using ( the cert is for www.somedomain.com but I am using localhost for testing). Would that be an issue? Google Chrome and IE just asks me to proceed anyway, which I say "yes".
Any help or assistance on this would be appreciated.
thanks
Edward

• How do I move a video project from Encore to AIR via Flash Builder?

I've got a rather complex video project with lots of submenus (that works as a DVD - so it is "debugged") that I need to be able to export from Encore into an app to upload on the iTunes store and Android Market. So far, I've managed to export the project via Encore's Flash output and test the results using a web browser (it works). Everything got saved in a new folder structure with an index.html file pointing to the flashdvd.swf file pointing to the AuthoredContent.xml file that actually holds all the information on the file structure (there are 99 files in the Sources subfolder) and uses the default generated Theme.xml file.
What I need to do is to somehow import all this into Flash Builder as a project so it can become the source for the various "app" platforms. My questions are:
1. I've got Flash Builder 4.5 - do I need to upgrade to 4.7 in order to import the project or can this be done in 4.5?
2. Is there some intermediate step that I'm missing?
3. Will Flash Builder be able to repackage all these files into the file specs required by each target platform (I'm assuming it will - is that a valid assumption)?
And moving downstream a bit...
4. Since this is a video based project with over 200 megabytes of F4V content, how will the content arrive on the end user device? Will it have to be streamed or can it be downloaded? - this is a big issue should the app become popular and we be forced to maintain a streaming server somewhere. What about server sizing in such an event? For example: is there a way to estimate how much bandwidth is required per 1,000 instances?

Oh, no i think i clicked Solved but it's not at all solved and i don'tt see a way to reverse it and clicked unsolved.
I'v tried reading the Manuals but still don't see the solution.
I think I've misworded my question. Perhaps i shall have to start a new question.
What i want to know is very basic.
How do i take a video i see on either youTube or another side and put it either on my iPod (i guess via iTunes) or put it into a document or an email??
Do i copy some link? Copy what exactly? Do i click and drag something?
I think if i knew how to get a video to iTunes I could be able to sync it.
But i don't know the first thing, how to get a video onto iTunes, or email, or a document.
Thank you both.

• Flash Builder 4.7 won't debug air app on Android devices anymore

Hi there,
A strange thing happened today to my Flash Builer 4.7 installation on OS 10.8.5 : it suddenly refused installing and debugging AIR apps.
At -the famous- 57% of compilation completion I can see the "installing app on device" message, but nothing happens then, and the one minute connection to app timeout is finally triggered.
I had a look at other threads dealing with this problem here http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1154269 and here http://www.androidpolice.com/2013/02/12/new-android-4-2-2-feature-usb-debug-whitelist-prev ents-adb-savvy-thieves-from-stealing-your-data-in-some-situations/ and I downloaded the latets Android SDK and replaced a bunch of files into the /Applications/Adobe Flash Builder 4.6/sdks/4.6.0/lib/android/bin folder but nothing worked.
The fun side of the issue is that yesterday it worked, and this morning it did not worked anymore, but I swear I did not ugraded Android on my phone nor I upgraded AIR SDK in FLash Builder or OS X. The Android phone is the same as usual, a Nexus 4 with Android 4.3, that I upgraded 1 month ago.
I can't debug my Android app anymore, this drives me crazy, and I spent the day trying to find a solution.
Do you guys had a similar problem ?

My mistake...
There was a typo into the XML application descriptor, that prevented the app to install properly on the device.
Precisely, it wasn't a typo but raher a malformed <intent-filter> node. I launched adb tool from the console with adb install MyApp.apk command, and I saw this : Failure [INSTALL_PARSE_FAILED_MANIFEST_MALFORMED] in the terminal. From here it was easy to find the culprit.
What would be cool is to have this feature inside the Flash Builder's Console panel.

• How can I overlay AIR 3.5 SDK in Flash Builder 4.7?

I'm trying to overlay the new Air 3.5 sdk in Flash Builder 4.7 but the option to use specifed sdk is unavailable in the project preferences. What is the solution here?

Hi,
Can you please let me know whether you have overlaid it on Win/Mac?
When you have created the mobile project what does app.xml show? for example if you have 3.5 overlaid you should be able to see something like this in app.xml
<application xmlns="http://ns.adobe.com/air/application/3.5">
For overlaying AIR 3.5 SDK on Flex SDK 4.6 locally following the instructions mentioned in the below url and then create a Flex Mobile project using that SDK.

I have the same issue. My project is super simple. All the files are in the same directory. The doc class and the .fla have the same name. The project publishes without a hitch in Flash Professional CC. When I try to add the project to Flash Builder 4.7 it give me:
Exception in BridgeTalk call
Function: getFLABuildPaths
Error message: Error. Cannot find the file ....
I have checked the path to the .fla twice and scrutinized the spellings and they are correct. It is pointing right to the correctly named .fla, but for some reason it fails. I'll post if I find out something usefull.

• Bus Error: 10 while packaging a Flash Builder 4.6 application containing a native extension (ANE)

I get this error:
ld: warning: -ios_version_min not specificed, assuming 4.0
ld: warning: -dead_strip with lazy loaded static (library) archives has resulted in a duplicate symbol. You can change your source code to rename symbols to avoid the collision. This will be an error in a future linker.

Compilation failed while executing : ld64
The ane was created using this command:
"/Applications/Adobe Flash Builder 4.6/sdks/4.6.0/bin/adt" -package -target ane SPExtension.ane extension.xml -swc SPTest.swc -platform iPhone-ARM -C ios . -platformoptions platform.xml
The ANE file seemed to load in my project ok, and build ok. But when I hit run to package for my ios device, I get the above error.

Here's the fix in case anyone else runs into this problem. When Flash Builder is building the deployment during launch, it converts the mapped path to a mangled local path for the ane to find the descriptor to a relative path, which can't be found and throws the null pointer. Making the Output Folder path actually local to the computer, as opposed to the default that FB creates, resolves the error, and still allows blazeds access from the device.

• Cannot install Flash Builder on a network home drive

When trying to install in our corporate environment we have network home drives and the Flash Builder installer for some reason tries to create a directory here:
\\escfil02\homedir\deancj\..\Adobe Flash Builder 4
We noone here has permission to create a directory outside our home directory since it is using the .. directory. Perhaps that works fine when your home directory is local on your C: drive but it doesn't work here and I cannot really change my %HOMESHARE% environment variable (or can I?) Then I get 25 other errors but they may all be related to this first one I don't know. They are all ERROR 15078 errors
How can I get past this?

Hi,
You're right that we're trying to create your default workspace in the folder one level up from your roaming documents folder, and that's what's causing the conflict between our installer and your roaming profile.
This is on our radar to fix for the next release, but here's a workaround you could try in the meantime. From what we've seen with roaming network profiles, our installers will have trouble mainly if your roaming documents folder has been flattened (redirected) to the root of your profile tree. If you can have your network profile reconfigured with the more conventional home folder at the top level, and the documents folder underneath it, then the relative path will be able to resolve correctly in your network tree.
There's more info here, about how to configure your roaming profile on the server to follow the conventional tree structure:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc766489(WS.10).aspx
Depending on who administers your network profiles, you might need someone in IT/IS to help with this.
