Flash Builder 4 List controls trimming spaces from XML node values

I'm trying to migrate my Flex 3 application to Flash builder 4.  One issue that I have is that one of my datasources returns a list of cities and regions.  To get the regions to display in the correct order in Flex 3, a space was added to to their name in the database (ie. "West", "Northwest" are stored in the database as " West" and " Northwest" so that when sorted by the sql query they would appear at the top and gets translated to XML to fill in a list box or combo box in my Flex 3 application.  I have functions that take that selected city or region value from the combo box and queries the database for various performance metrics.  In migrating to Flash Builder 4, I noticed that the spaces in the region names no longer appear in the combo boxes.  When I show the data in a datagrid, the spaces are still there but when populating a combo box or list box, the leading space gets trimmed.  This is an issue since if a user selects the value "West", it doesn't find it in the database since it is listed as " West".  This wasn't an issue in Flex Buider 3.  Is there a work around or parameter that I can set to force the combo box or list box to show the data as-is versus having it trim off the leading spaces for my regions?
Also, a stupid question, in Flex 3, you were able to find the select value of a combo box by using comboBox.text.  What is the equivalent in Flash Builder 4?  Do I need to do comboBox.selectedItem.Region.toString() now or is there a shortcut to pull the text from the combo box?

I think you want this:
private function onLoadPortfolioData(event:ResultEvent):void
    var obj:XMLList = event.result.img as XMLList;
    if (obj.length > 0)
        _imgCollection = new XMLListCollection(obj);
        pictureList.dataProvider = _imgCollection;
If this post answers your question or helps, please mark it as such. Thanks!

  • Flash Builder 4.6 Java Heap Space Error

    Hi,
    I get this error "Java Heap Space" when trying to clean build (or build in any way) my project.
    I have a lot of embeded assets (png, mp3 and some binary files embeded to be read as a ByteArray) which total about 37 MB. Including one more 1.6MB binary asset causes this error to occur.
    I have tried to change my memory settings about (-Xmx and -Xms) as previous posts have suggested but this doesn't seem to make any difference.
    Is there any patch or solution to this very frustrating limitation of Flash Builder?
    Thanks for any help!
    Tom

    I constantly had issues with this.  I managed to run into the max for increasing the heap space.  I was able to get beyond the limit by flagging the FlashBuilder.exe file to allow it to allocate to higher memory address ranges.  I'm on a 64 bit machine, so the only limitation was the 32 bit FlashBuilder process.  Anyways i was able to get from 1024m up to 1720m.  Also note that FlashBuilder 4.7 Beta is out and it is a native 64 bit application, so you will get higher addressing there.  I just found it to be too buggy for my every day development tasks.  Also missing the Design view really hurts development.  I hope they put that back in.
    Here's more detail on how I got beyond the java heap ceiling.

  • Flash Builder 4.5 Java Heap Space Error

    Hello everyone,
    I've downloaded Flash Builder 4.5 trial a few days ago. Let me first tell that I like the new features a lot and they help to speed up the development process noticably. I thank Adobe for that very much.
    However I did not notice any performance boost over the Flash Buidler 4. Even worse, the 4.5 version seems to run much slower and use more memory than Flash Builder 4. I constantly keep getting Java Heap Space errors and needles to say, the tool just crashes and I have to restart it.
    Here how my experience working with the new version looks like. I start the Flash Builder 4.5 which has my current project open (for the record, I still use Flex 4.1, and the project includes roughly 300+ classes and 30000+ lines of code (AS and MXML)). At the beggining everything works fine and pretty fast. UI, code completion, snippets and all other good stuff works pretty fast. However, after each build, FlashBuilder.exe process eats up from 50 to 100 megabytes of memory and does not seem to release it or reuse it. So after a 5 or 10 builds it already appears to be using over 1 GB of RAM. At that point the editor becomes sloppy - it can't keep up with my typing, code completion popups takes a few seconds to show up. And a few more builds - the Flash Builder freezes and after a minute or two I get Java Heap Space error.
    I've tried increased the JRE heap space used by the Flash Builder (flashbuilder.ini, flashbuilderc.ini, eclipse.ini) to -Xms512m -Xmx1024m as well as permanent generation heap space to -XX:MaxPermSize=512m -XX:PermSize=256m and the mxml compiler (jvm.config) to -Xms384m -Xmx768m. However this did not solve the problem. Maybe just postponed it a bit.
    Am I the only one observing such behaviour of Flash Builder 4.5? Does any one have any other ideas how to fix this? (by the way, I work on 64bit machine with Widnows Server 2008R2, 4GB of RAM and 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo).
    Thanks in advance.
    Michael

    I'm seeing nearly the same thing.  I also have a very large set of projects similar to what you are describing and I do have Java Heap Space errors (The details show an error of "java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: unable to create new native thread" occurring for me)
    I had similar issues, although they are more frequent in the 4.5 builder, in the 4.1 builder.  In 4.1 builder, I didn't get the exact same detailed error regarding threads.
    I did install my flash builder into a clean instance of eclipse 3.6.2 vs using the standalone install.  That shouldn't make a difference though.  In 4.1, I tried he standalone install and saw the same issues I saw in the plugin version.
    I'm also using the 4.1 SDK in Flash Builder 4.5 (It appears that is what you are doing).  I've been attributing the crashes to the following bug in the 4.1 SDK, although I have applied the files in the bug report and still have the problem.  I'm hoping when I'm able to switch to the 4.5 SDK it may help.  (I can't switch yet because from what I can tell, it requires 10.2 Flash Player and my company is currently only on 10.0)
    The Bug Report I'm referring to is: https://bugs.adobe.com/jira/browse/SDK-26366
    I've bumped up all of the memory settings you've referred to and it helps the environment run longer, but it still eventually crashes.  One thing I definately do is make sure that the "Build Automatically" is unchecked.
    The machine I'm running on is an Intel 2600K with 16GB of memory running Windows 7 64-bit, so I don't think hardware is the issue.
    No real answer, but your not alone in having similar issues.

  • Wireframe Components list smaller than Flash Builder Components list?

    Hi All,
    I noticed that in Flash Catalyst the WIREFRAME COMPONENTS tab only has a limited set of components (Button, Checkbox, Data List, HScrollbar, HSlider, Radio Button, Text Input, Toggle Button, VScrollbar, VSlider). Flash Builder, on the other hand, has other components not in this list (Combo Box, Color Picker, Progress Bar, Tab Bar, etc).
    For all the components in FB not in the wireframe list of FC, is the designer/developer supposed to add custom components in the Library tab of FC? Will Adobe add more to the list of wireframe components in future FC releases?
    Thanks for any inputs!

    Hey FutureSplasher,
    You're right, the Flash Catalyst Wireframe Components list is a subset of the Spark component set exposed in Flash Builder.
    In Catalyst we expose special tooling, properties, and experience around each spark component.
    It is definitely our intent moving forward to continue to expose more and more Spark components, but as opposed to Builder each component we add requires some special work around exposing the user experience of working with, creating and manipulating that component.
    I absolutely encourage you to leverage the fxpl (library) workflows to create and import your own components (and share with other Catalyst friends online if you feel so inclined ).
    In the meantime, if you have specific high priority component requests, we'd love all the feedback we can get.  Feel free to post a list of a couple high priority components here, or post them to the ideas site so we can get other users voting for them: http://ideas.adobe.com/flashcatalyst
    Thanks for posting!

    Having same issue here. In my case I'm just trying to place a local video file; hear audio, t see no video running it within Flash Builder and the ADL simulator on my Mac. It's very frustrating that everything Abobe has posted on this is targeted toward the Flash player runnung inside a damn browser... don't they realize we need a IOS solution for the 1000s of iPhones and iPads out there? Very frustrated with this.

  • Read a XML node value/attribute value from a CLOB

    Hello,
    I can write SQL/ - PL/SQL "straightforward" but now I have a problem what is to big for me.  I hop that someone can help.
    We create by code a xml structure and write these into the oracle database CLOB field. I'm sorry to say that a xml text structure is written into a clob in stead of a xmltype field. (it's a design failure?) It's a large xml structure. I believe I can't attach a file so I put at the end of this discussion a light example of the xml structure.
    It's a xml with quartervalue's, so there are 35040 detail rows (24h * 4 * 365days). I want to accumulate the the attribute Amount value 9. The amount value is in the Detail node a attribute but at the end you can see that for the DST are also 4 value's, but these are not attribute value's but node value's. (In this case it are four value's in some cases there is one DST amount value.
    Can somebody help me how to accumulate all the detail attribute value Amount with the node value Amount of the DST tag?

    From what I know, extracting the "Amount" values in the Details section and the "Amount" values in the DSTS section would be two different SELECT statements.
    Both of these will use XMLTable() to extract the values.
    BTW - If you need more information on this, post up in the XML/XML DB forum section for more complex help.  (eg getting YEAR with the DSTS Amount values)
    as far as XML size goes, I've seen oracle handle a 100MB XML document without problems.
    (just understand, it will be 'slow')
    This one will give you the Amount values from the DSTS section:

  • New Issues with Flash builder - Second time you do search from imported Tutorial file it breaks with AS error

    Okay, so I had an issue with the Design View that was broke because of the <s:text> tag inside of the <s:RichText> tag. Adobe fiexed that in one of the next released builds (discussion here in fourms). So I took the tutorial file (again) and started to work on it and all went okay, except that the 'tracking' method on the ricktext tag was taken out. Forums mentioned that. So on import of the 'tutorial' fxp from FC to Flex builder, you get several errors because FC still builds the fxp file with 'tracking' property being used in the RichText tag. No biggie, i just remapped to trackingLeft property in the effected files. Now mind you in  the older build that I had this project, worked fine, with the exception of the 'design view' issue with the <s:text> file borking the design view. Bug on it said it was fixed with the next build. which it was but this now when you take the EXACT same code and compile and run it the seach will break each and everytime. Think it has or may have something to do with Adobe taking out the 'tracking' property on the richtext tag.
    anyone else having this issue?
    attaching the fxp file

    I can recreate the problem but I haven't seen it reported

    There is information in Snippet 1 on my site about TOC
    synchronisation but I don't know if it will help with FlashHelp.

  • Need to trim space from time field

    I've got a text box in my report where I am dropping in two times: start time and end time.
    {EarlyShiftStart}-{LateShiftEnd}
    My problem is if the late shift end is a time less than 10, it adds an extra space between the "-" and the start time.
    So instead of:
    8:00 AM-3:00PM
    it is 8:00 AM- 3:00 PM.
    Is there a way to have this extra or padded space removed?
    Thanks,

    Hi,
    What is the data type of your database fields for times?
    If those are of type datetime, then you can use cStr(<your database field>, "hh:mm tt"), which will give you the time part as required by you and can try something like this:
    cStr(<your database field for early shift time>, "hh:mm tt") & '-' & cStr(<your database field late shift time>, "hh:mm tt")
    Thanks,

    However this solution removes most of the whitespaces, I want exact output as flash file is expecting so..
    Where ever I am calling the CF functions, there I am getting the whitespaces. like below cases.
    startdate="#getProjectStartDate(sProjectIdList)#" -> output I am getting for this statement is -> " 12/09/2009 "
    Please assist me...

  • Cannot create controls/constants/indicators from XML parser

    Is there any reason I cannot create (by right clicking) a control/constant/indicator of a XML ref from the XML parser function? I need to make subvi's to build/read xml files, and that is really impossible without that ability.
    Labview 2012 f3
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    This bug has already been reported (CAR 357092), and is scheduled to be fixed in the next service pack release. For now, here's a workaround:
    1. Create a reference indicator from Functions » Programming » File I/O » XML » XML Parser » New.vi.
    2. Right click on the new "DOM Document Out" indicator terminal and select Create > Control (or Indicator).
    3. Right click on the new control/indicator and choose Select XML Parser Class. Then, you can select whatever class you need.

    thanksBy display, I assume you mean something like:
    System.out.println(myDate)
    or
    System.out.println(myDate.toString()); // which is the same thingUse SimpleDateFormat class to format the date anyway you like.
