Flash novice - swf playback how-to

...so I've got a swf as my portfolio/demoreel interface,  I've got all the buttons working right (bio, resume) but I don't know how to add code to the demoreel portion(which is a .swf file within the .swf interface) I've added it on a layer in my scene, hoping that it would simply start playing, obviously its not working as I expected.
If i've got a button with instance name: demoreelButton_instance1, how do i script the button to have the swf start playing?
any help would me much appreciated,
Cheerz
-M

If you imported the swf into your library and it contained actionscript to make it work, it doesn't contain the actionscript anymore.  You need to dynamically load the swf in order for it to retain its built-in functionality
In any other case, you should be able to just target the swf object and tell it to play();

  • How to detect end of flash movie (SWF file) in Javascript

I have used Dreamweaver CS4 to integrate my SWF file as shown
below. So far so good. See GoToNext()
    my website
What I wouldd like to do is have the SWF movie trigger a
javascript function in my html page when the video is stopped
playing (i.e. when it is finished) There are no controlls in that
SWF file - it is basically am add banner. I would think this would
be easiest done by rasinng an event in SWF that is communicated to
javascript, where I can add an event listener, and thus trigger my
    function.
How can this be done in the simplest way?

  • How to save a flash with .SWF

Hi, I have the 'Adobe Flash CS3 Professional', and I want to
know if you could tell me how to save a flash with .SWF.
When I want to create a new project, I can chose between nine
types of documents, and I want to make a flash for a website. What
type of document would you chose if you were me ?
I can't write the name of the diferent types of documents,
because I have this programme in Spanish.
    Can you help me ?
    Thank you

FLA is the native source format - make your movie and then
    publish to SWF -
you can not create an SWF initially - SWF is the
    exported/published format

  • How can I save a Flash or .swf file in AVI format without losing quality?

How can I save a Flash or .swf file in AVI (or another video) format without losing quality?

As long as you don't have code in your animation then just hit File->Export->Export Movie, then configure the options.
Here's an article on exporting sound, images and video. Just skip on down to exporting AVI and it explains the process. The codec is in the Video Compression section. When you click Settings for Video Compression, the codec is in the drop-down at the top. There's various kinds but to get lossless quality AVI you'll have to choose Uncompressed / None for full quality. Again, the file will be huge and you'll need to use another program (like Adobe Media Encoder) or Microsoft Windows Media Encoder, etc, depending on what format you intend to compress it ultimately.

  • Saving Flash 7 SWF created in Flash 8

I understand from experience that viewing Flash 8 SWF files
on the Flash 7 Player results in text not showing up. The Flash 8
text is obviously superior, but unfortunately, a major contingent
of my viewers are too afraid, too naive, or their systems are too
messed up to upgrade their Flash Players from earlier versions.
Obviously, to solve the problem, I can save the SWF as Flash 7
backward compatible; however, I am more than disappointed with the
results of this solution. The main problems with this approach is
that the text looks week and the bitmap alignment is no longer
perfect when trying to intermingle my flash content with existing
    background content.
Please someone help me with a better solution by providing me
with a list of parameters that need to be in place so that my Flash
7 files created in Flash 8 look more presentable.

    > Peter, as for a list of parameters, I mean precisely
    what options should
    I
    > check off in the Flash 8 export movie dialog box when
    saving Flash 7

There seems to be come confusion here. It's not a matter of
    'checking off'
options, rather of publish settings. In the 'Publish
    Settings' dialogue,
under the 'Flash' tab, 'Version', select 'Flash Player 7'.
    the important
thing is not to use any *features* that depend on Flash
    Player 8 - these
include (but are not limited to!) filters, any of the new
    text rendering
options (custom anti-alias), any of the new Classes (geom,
    filters, display,
    external) etc etc etc.

    Flash 7

Again, you are a bit confused I think. Obviously they will be
    different than
if published for FP8 - that wasn't my point. What I said was:
    > > If you are publishing for Flash Player 7, your text
    and bitmaps will
    look
    > > the same as
    > > they would if yo uhad created the content in Flash
    MX2004.
So, using Flash 8 to author but publishing for FP7 will look
    the same as
using Flash MX2004 ('Flash 7') to create your content. You
    are saying your
bitmaps shrink "compared to when exported normally in Flash
    8" - I never
    mentioned publishing for Flash 8.
    > Hmmm, the exported Flash 7 text (generated in Flash 8)

Well yes, of course. You said it yourself - you have exported
    for FP7 -
playing it in FP8 won;t magically make it look better! For
    that, you would
    have to *publish* for FP8.

  • Delays in my SWF Playback

    Flash Wizards Help!
I just finished working on a 12 minute animation in Flash
    (after only 4 years).
The cartoon has sounds and music contained within it.
Whenever I quick-preview the film in Flash (through SWF
    -command/return), everything lines up perfectly.
Now, when I preview the cartoon in a web browser, or through
my website, there are lags throughout, and the music doesn't stay
on queue-- it falls behind. I tried this preview in Shockwave and
    HMTL mode.
The Flash file itself is 383 MB, and the SWF is 25 MB.
Is there a way to get a smooth undelayed performance for the
web? I did check the Bandwidth Profiler and I do have quite a few
scenes that are above the red line. I wouldn't know how to trim
that, since most of the files over the line are symbols in
transformation, or a combination of voice over, sound effects, and
    music.
If anyone knows a way to resolve this ever-depressing
dilemma, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks for your time and
    input!
    Arthur

Thanks for the suggestions. I will create a preloader for the
file. Regarding my audio....I have many overlapping
sounds....voices, music and sounds effects....They are set on
separate layers as "Sync: event" (not streaming). The problem with
the score is, I have a long take (about a minute) and it runs
through several scenes. It's here that the music starts lagging,
along with a slow down between scenes overall (when viewed through
a browser). I don't have many jpegs, if any at all. I just have to
figure out a way to simplify the files, and that seems very
difficult. Thanks again for your help! I'll see what other
    solutions pop up.

  • I am a Flash developer. When I change a Flash file (SWF) and try to test it, Firefox displays the previous version even though I have cleared the cache. Clearing the cache obviously doesn't clear everything. Why?

I developed a Flash file (SWF) with a light blue start button, placed it on a web server then went to the URL using Firefox (3.6.8). Later I updated the SWF (changed the button to dark blue), replaced the SWF on the web server, opened Firefox and used Tools/Clear Recent History... to clear the cache. Then when I went to the URL to test the replaced SWF it clearly opened the previous version (light blue button). How can that happen if the previous version no longer exists on the web server? Firefox can only be opening the file from its cache, so why is the file still there if I just cleared the cache?

    Your not alone!
I had the identical issue with iPhone config Utility on windows 7 64bit.
A virtual macOS on the same machine didn't have a problem, windows iTunes didnt have a problem. Just a glitch with ICU on windows
I tried everything you did and the only thing that fixed it was to change the appID or app name (I forget which I did).
I don't know where that old app data is stored on the machine, but I deleted all apps, uninstalled/reinstalled ICU and it still would populate and install the old ipa.
I also still periodically get weird errors/glitches deploying to iOS on windows.
It's like some days I need to deploy with ICU, sometimes iTunes, sometimes I need to run the VM mac... SOO frustrating.
It always works one way or another, so the app itself is always fine.
I guess I really need to look into that new direct deployment option...

  • Loaded flash 8 swf's instance problem !

    Hi,
I am loading a Flash 8 .swf file in Flex 3. Initially its
    working fine.
But whenever we tried to load a another instance of that swf
or trying to load in a separate container again, its producing
wrong output with colors and mouse events.
We tried with the same swf file making two different file
(map1.swf, map2.swf), and loading them separately. But its also
    buggy.
The MovieClip structure of one swf (map1.swf) in flash is
    like - _level0.Map.Map.NA.
We made one swf 's (map2.swf) structure to test like -
    _level0.Map2.Map.NA
Where colours of 'NA' instances are depending on xml and
    mouse event applied to them.
If we load them in Flex 3 and trace out the loaded swf
instances, whichever swf loaded first, flex started to use those
    instances everywhere.
e.g. If map2.swf loaded first and map1.swf second, then Flex
    debug console shows -
    '_root.Map2.Map.NA' - for map2.swf and
    '_level0.diff_map_load0.pan2.contentPane.UIComponent33.instance37.instance67.Map2.Map.NA'
    - for map1.swf.
Again, If map1.swf loaded first and map2.swf second, then
    Flex debug console shows -
    '_root.Map.Map.NA' - for map1.swf and
    '_level0.diff_map_load0.pan2.contentPane.UIComponent33.instance37.instance67.Map.Map.NA'
    - for map1.swf
For both of the cases which one is loaded first, working
correctly and the second one producing wrong results with colors
    and mouse events.
    Help and Suggestions needed.
    Thanks,
    Debasish Bouri.

Authorware is old. EOD'd, in fact now.
It's native support only officially handles Flash 6. Flash 7
    usually
works fine if nothing 'fancy' (i.e. new components) has been
    added to
the SWF. Flash 8 and above, however, pretty much aren't going
    to work at
all in Authorware *using the native sprite*.
However, if you add the Shockwave Flash ActiveX control to
    your
flowline, that uses the same control as IE does. So as long
    as your user
has the Flash IE player on their machine, you can load
    whatever SWF
    version that player supports.
Working with the ActiveX control is a bit more tricky. Check
    the ActiveX
example in your Authorware 7\ShowMe directory for an
    example...
The biggest downside to the ActiveX approach is those SWFs
    are 'always
on top'. Makes for good playback but you can't layer anything
    on top of
those SWFs unfortunately (except maybe other ActiveX
    controls, which
    causes lots of flickering).

  • Could not generate the flash file(SWF)

    Hi all,
I am working with a Dashboard having a GMap plugin and it was working fine on BO server.
But now the plugin has been changed from GMap to CMaps plugin. I am able to download the same dashboard from BO Server to my desktop.
The snapshot of the warning I get while downloading the dashboard has been attached.
When downloaded from server, in place of displaying map on GMap plugin I get a warning "Invalid request this request is invalid" but when i open its properties the warning goes and the map appears back.
Then I tried to upload the same dashboard on BO Server and I get an error "Could not generate the flash file(SWF)...". The snapshot of the same has been attached.
I am unable to do any modification on this Dashboard.

    Hi,
In your discussion, you have downloaded the dashboard file from the BO server to your desktop.
You can export the dashboard to BO Server in SWF format. But how can you download the physical dashboard file from BO server. Is it possible?
Do the changes in .xlf physical file and export the .xlf file to BO server as File-->Save to platform.
