Flash player hanging up and crashing on all web browsers. Problem turned out to be AMD drivers

I have been having a problem running Flash Player, green screens, hang ups, crashes etc on my machine. I tried various solutions and every major and some not so major web browsers all to no avail. I tried reinstalling my windows 8.1 no good also tried running 8 and 7 all 64 versions. No go I came a cross a post about a problem with Flash and AMD that seems to recur every nown and then. I have a AMD HD 6670 1 gig GDDR5 PCI-E 2 card so I tried going back through AMD drivers untill I was able to get it to function properly. Finally I ended up using the driver from Dec 2013 13-12_win7_win8_64_dd_ccc_whql along with the AMD Media Codec Package from Aug 2012 12-8_vista_win7_win8_32-64_xcode Flash is now playing with no problems. I thought I would share the solution I used in case it might help others.

I haven't run across this, though I did see a Firefox fileupload bug yesterday (https://bugbase.adobe.com/index.cfm?event=bug&id=2980517).  Would you mind opening a new bug on this over at bugbase.adobe.com?  Please include URLs where you're seeing this behavior and we'll investigate further.

  • Flash Player Crashes In All Web Browsers

    Dear Adobe,
For months now when ever I visit a site that uses flash, wever it be in Google Chrome, Internet Explorer 9 or Mozilla Firefox. Within about 5 minutes the page I am on will crash and report to me that, the flash plugin / player has crashed. It does this without fail, every time I go online. I mostly play zynga games on facebook. I also use fullscreen whenever possible, and always using the latest version of flash thanks to the cool flash updater.
I have just today checked and updated to the latest nvidia graphics drivers with a clean installation.
I followed advice about disabling hardware acceleration and going through the steps for uninstalling Flash, and emptying the folders associated with it. Sadly though the problem still remains.
I would love for this long time problem to be resolved!
My system is Windows 7 64-Bit, with an Nvidia Geforce 7600gs.
    Please find dxdiag results.

Hi Mikey - Sorry you're running into these crashes.  It's odd that this is occurring with all browsers and Flash content.  There must be something specific about your system that is causing this to happen.  We'd like to investigate further.  Would you be willing to create a new bug report and attach both your dxdiag report and any crash dumps that you can generate?  Please see this FAQ for additional details and steps.
How do I report a Flash Player crash to Adobe?

  • Flash Player 11.6.r602 crashes in all browsers

Running on windows vista box. In all browsers I repeatedly get Flash Player crash messages, appently caused by the Data Protection Execution Protection service closing it.
I've tried turning off DEP for flash and Windows won't let me.

Thanks for your prompt and helpful reply.....
When dealing with such a large problem with frequent FF lockups the temptation is to lump all information in an attempt to solve. LOL
Chasing multiple threads to help solve the problem may be helpful to the developers but it takes far too much time following and posting in each thread. As you can see it's taken a couple of days to get back to this post.
First thing we did is dump cache and cookies both through the interface and then manually in the profile. We changed the version of Flash installed manually and even changed the version of FF. There are many "flash" enabled pages we encountered which caused the lockup.....so MSN is not specifically the issue.
But when Flash is removed or disabled the browser no longer locks up.....suffice to say we get an error when visiting a website with flash content on it.
That is why I chose to post here as the problem is directly attributable to Flash in FF on all of our machines.

  • Iweb 08: adobe flash player error messages and crashing when saving

Hi.   I switched not too long ago from an 08 Imac to a mid 2011 with Mountain Lion.    I brought the applications I could from the other computer, including Iweb 08.
today was the first time I tried to tweak my site with it.  I opened the old file on the new computer using this method:
    http://iwebfaq.org/site/iWeb_Transfer_Site.html
All seemed well at first.  Then I got a slew of error messages to the effect of "Adobe® Flash® Player has stopped a potentially unsafe operation. The following local application on your computer or network: blah blah is trying to communicate with this internet-enabled loaction: blah blah blah".
My site is used to display my work in the video production field, so it's related to the various players/videos embedded.
In addition, when I tried to save after opening that first time, and any time, since, it crashes during the save.
Any ideas what's going on here?
Here're two of the pages on my site that were making iweb go nuts:
    http://videoproduction.joshbass.com/Videoproduction-_ENG_Interviews.html
    http://videoproduction.joshbass.com/Videoproduction-_Commercial.html
    Thanks.

Whether or not you use iWeb, you may be aware that things have changed. Since you're a professional, I assume the trade must have talked about it.
I'm not a professional, but I have read about it for the past few years.
Adobe Flash is on it's way out. Especially on Mobile devices, such as my iPad, where your movies do not display.
    Here's how I do it.
It started with this in Flash :
    http://www.wyodor.net/_Movies/rolando/
Then made this with the <embed> code 4 years ago :
    http://www.wyodor.net/Tutorials/ImageWidget/ClickMovie.html
And in a similar style, made for iPad :
    http://www.wyodor.net/mfi/cultureclub/Movies.html
Then HTML5 came along and made a sample with custom code to explain it :
    http://www.wyodor.net/_Demo/html5/HTML5Video.html
And with code from the Interwebs :
    http://www.wyodor.net/_Demo/html5/HTML5_Zencoder.html
    http://www.wyodor.net/_Movies/sublime/
And regarding the Adobe messages? It's not particular to your situation. It's a warning that you try to use Flash outside the protected area of a website.
You can either ignore it, or prevent it by making separate webpages for each flash video and then display them with an iframe in the HTML Snippet. The HTML5 demos above do that.
So the magic word is : Educate.

  • My iPad Air crashes on all web browsers making it useless for work

My iPad Air crashes alot which is only a problem when filling in forms or working on it , my dads iPhone 6 does the same thing. Are apple products no good any more or is there a way to fix it?! I've tried google chrome and opera and they crash n lose the work too. Basically useless as a work tool

I just cancelled my Iphone 6 order (it wasn't getting here anytime soon anyway) because it is using IOS 8.  I wouldn't go near that operating system if you begged me.  I used to love Apple products.  They absolutely are no good since I upgraded to IOS 8 from 7. What a mistake.  My Ipad has crashed 4 times, and after restoring to new, it crashes again.  I have lost money on upgrades to apps, or add ons to apps and have finally decided to go to a Windows system.  I can always add ipadian to the windows system to use my apple apps.  I better not upgrade my apple imac or something terrible might happen.  Sorry Apple but I had one of the first Apple IIe's way back in the 80's but you lost me for good, because you are ignoring everyone with this - "it is a hardware problem", no sir it is not.  Turn on WiFi and there it goes again, crashed.

  • Adobe Flash Player causing IE and Chrome to crash when on ESPN

I have a 64 bit Windows 7 Sony Vaio that I just purchased.  Everything seems to be working ok, except when I go to ESPN.  When I have Flash Player enabled, Internet Explorer and Chrome both stop working and crash unless I leave the page.  When I have uninstalled Flash player or disabled it, I do not have the problem (but I can't view Flash movies on any website).  Adobe Flash Player works fine on other websites on all browsers, its just this particular website on all browsers.  I think the problem is with Flash or involves a virus/malware.  I have MacAfee and nothing is coming up.  I read about a Host file issues in other threads but don't know enough about fixing that myself (if that is indeed the problem).  Does anyone have any suggestions?  If if it involves a virus, can someone suggest a program to fix the problem?

Another suggestion is to downgrade Flash Player to 10.3 and see if it still crash or not. I noted how to uninstall current version and install older version in the other thread: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/922257?tstart=30
Let us know if older version work fine or stil crash. There is different code path between 10.3 and 11 so there might be chance that older one won't crash. I hope you can enjoy ESPN soon.

  • Flash Player 9.x and 10.x crashes Mozilla Firefox 5.x and 6.x

I'm running Windows 7 64-bit with 8GB of RAM and plenty of hard drive space.
I've been unable to visit any Web site with Mozila Firefox 5.x and now 6.x that has Flash content. Previously I had Flash Player 9.x and it was updated on August 13, 2011 to version 10.3.183.5.
I've manually disabled ALL plugins and determined that if I enable only the Shockwave Flash 10.3.183.5 plugin and visit a site that uses Flash content, such as http://www.native-instruments.com, Firefox will instantly crash and present me with the Mozilla Crash Reporter.
I do not have this issue with Internet Explorer 9.x or Google Chrome 13.x.
Other than the long, involved procedure involving the Backdoor.Ulrbot.C virus that Mozilla Support describes, are there any other suggetions you might have.
    Thanks very much.

    Well, according to http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe%20Mode,
You can elect to make the following changes:
Disable all add-ons: If you select this box and then click Make Changes and Restart then Firefox will start back up in its normal mode, except all your  extensions, themes, and plugins will be disabled (not uninstalled).
So how can Flash Player plugin run in Firefox Safe Mode if it's a plugin and it's disabled?
I've already determined that Flash Player is the problem by having it as the only add-on (plugin) that's enabled. All other extensions and plugins except for Firefox are disabled. My theme is the default one.
The site I visit doesn't matter, if it has Flash content on the page I'm visiting Firefox instantly crashes.

  • Flash player 11 is very glitchy on ALL browsers and makes my CPU usage 100%,Streaming media headache

flash player 11 is very glitchy on ALL browsers and makes my CPU usage 100%, making all youtube and pandora or any streaming media a headache, i have a low-end but good quality Emachine with Windows 7 Sv pk. 1, AMD Athalon Processor 2650e 1.6 GHz 2GB ram 32-bit, which isn't that bad, it used to play HD videos and everything without a skip or lag, it is virus clean, and clean of any large bulky programs, the only thing that went wrong was the fact that the adobe flash updates slowly but surely made it worse, AND it will not let me roll-back to an older version anymore like it used to, so WTF is up? no one seems to have an answer for this, and it seems like ADOBE is doing everything in it's power to not let me ask this question or get it solved, maybe it's because I AM TOO SMART FOR IT AND KNOW IT'S A FAILURE. so please, anyone who actually has a degree in this field is welcome, but no BS anymore, i want answers.

The jump to FP11 was pretty significant with Stage3D. Now Flash Player has a lower level access to your computers GPU to offload playing video and 3d rendering to the GPU. However if your systems GPU isn't up to the task you really won't see that performance gain.
Enter H264 video decoding. A large segment of the Flash usage market is simply viewing video. For sites without fallback in mind (or don't mind software rendering fallback), video may suffer. Using the GPU accelerated video classes may make it difficult for your system to view playback. Disabling hardware acceleration as recommended above would revert you back to software (CPU) decoding to check if your system itself is the issue (and not all the new GPU additions). You did that yet you're still having an issue.
Just to clarify, as I have an eMachine (for accounting), your computer is very much in the "budget" margin. You have a 3 year old single core 1.6ghz AM2 CPU with 512kb of L2. That's the K8 series. This is a very underpowered, single thread loving CPU. Only the most optimized Flash sites and lower end videos (720p or below) should play, but I'm not even sure if they'll "play well". It depends on your GPU.
Also you should know they have an official list of unsupported chipsets and drivers based on many factors. Here's a list for FP11 and AIR3:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/multi/stage3d-unsupported-chipsets-drivers-flash.html
Check the bottom of the screen to see what Flash is reporting your rendering mode is. For example, mine states:
Your gpu supports Stage3D in both Baseline and Constrained profile!
    Baseline RenderMode:
    DirectX9
    Constrained RenderMode:
    DirectX9 (Baseline Constrained)
This probably won't get better in the future for you. Flash is not a low end multimedia runtime. It does require and utilize high end hardware in a much more reliable way.

  • Flash player hanging with hardware acceleration enabled

I'm having the following problem: The Flash player is working fine for some apparently random period of time, then it hangs when it is starting up in order to display a video.  This appears to happen only when hardware acceleration is enabled.  (I have not noticed any problems with hardware acceleration disabled, but I only discovered 24 hours ago that this helped.).  The hang happens under all web browsers (Firefox reports that the Flash player crashed, but it is actually hung on start up, not crashed).  After a hang occurs, trying to view any other Flash video also hangs, and all other programs that attempt to access the video card like Windows Media Player also hang.  The only way to reset things and get video working again is to reboot the machine.
I suspect the problem is either the Flash player or the machine's graphics driver.  I'm running Flash Player WIN 10,1,53,64 under Windows 7 64 on an Intel Core i5 machine with Intel GMA HD graphics, driver version 8.15.10.2025.
BTW, is there anyway to permanently disable Flash's use of hardware acceleration? (if I disable, the setting doesn't seem to want to stay)

Thanks.  The computer is a Lenovo Thinkpad T510.  Intel's utility reports:
    Graphics Driver
    Product Detected
    Intel® HD Graphics
    Current Driver Installed
    8.15.0010.2025
A customized computer manufacturer driver is installed on your  computer. The Intel Driver Update Utility is not able to update the  driver. Installing a generic Intel driver instead of the customized  computer manufacturer driver may cause technical issues. Contact your computer manufacturer for the latest driver for your computer.
Running Lenovo's ThinkVantage System Update utility reports that all drivers are up-to-date.

  • Having issues with Adobe Flash player hanging the browser

Having issues with Adobe Flash player hanging the browser.
    WIN 7 enterprise 32 bit / Firefox 19.0.2 /
Internal company website keeps giving attached screen shot error, and hangs the browser when error pops up.
    Steps taken:
Uninstalled Adobe Flash player with the file “uninstall_flash_player.exe”
    Deleted provided directory in instructions
"Copy and paste the following and click OK.
    C:\Windows\system32\Macromed\Flash
Delete all the files in this folder."
Rebooted PC and reinstalled the flash player directly from “http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/downloads.html”
Re launched company website and received same error.
Repeated above steps as well as uninstalled Firefox browser.  Even went so far as to remove all profile information to start fresh from all profiles on the laptop with the same results.
Note: The web page will work without the flash player plugin, and my page doesn’t hang the browser. Required to open page in FireFox per company policy.

I'm sorry you're encountering this.  Could you paste a few of the most recent report ID links displayed when you go to "about:crashes" in the Firefox address bar?
As for workarounds, the first thing I'd suggest is trying our 11.7 labs release which you can get here: http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/flashplayer.html
If that doesn't help, please try the troubleshooting steps outlined in this FAQ:
How do I troubleshoot Flash Player's protected mode for Firefox?
In particular, I'd recommend temporarily disabling protected mode (for troubleshooting purposes only) to see if that addresses the issue.
    Thanks,

  • Adobe Flash Player Installer/Uninstaller 11.2.r202 has encountered a problem and needs to close

Seems that with the last 3 or 4 Flash Player updates, once the update is complete but before the installer actually exits, I get an error message box telling me that "Adobe Flash Player Installer/Uninstaller 11.2.r202 has encountered a problem and needs to close.  We are sorry for the inconvenience.", etc., etc., etc.  I've received this error message numerous times as most of the computers I work on are Windows XP SP3 (all updates) with Internet Explorer 8 as the browser, including my own computer and my wife's.  If I could copy & paste the details, I would.  But the temp file that's supposed to be created for error reporting purposes, isn't, and I'm not going to spend the next half an hour transcribing all the technical details.  I just want you to be aware there's a problem with your installer.       -kd5150-

I'm sorry you are running into this crash.  To help investigate the problem, we'll need you to do a few things for us.
First, add the following line to the file mms.cfg (open in Notepad)
    SilentAutoUpdateVerboseLogging=1
You can find the mms.cfg file here:
    xp, vista, and windows 7 32bit: c:\windows\system32\macromed\flash\mms.cfg
    windows 7 64bit: c:\windows\syswow64\macromed\flash\mms.cfg
Next, we'll want to get a crash dump so we can see what's going wrong.  You can enable crash logging on Windows Vista or 7 using the following steps:
Download the following files: Enable Crash Logging.reg and Disable Crash Logging.reg.
Double-click the Enable Crash Logging.reg file. Click Yes in the Registry Editor dialog.
    Restart your computer.
    Let the updater/installer crash occur
After the crash, open a file browser window and type the following in the navigation bar:%localappdata%
    Go to the CrashDump folder.
Select the most recent file that appears with the extension .dmp.
Double-click the Disable Crash Logging.reg file downloaded in Step 1 and click OK.
    Restart your computer.
Zip up the .dmp file and mail it (or a dropbox link) to [email protected] with a link to this thread.
    For XP, follow these steps:
Show hidden files.  For more details, see the instructions for Windows XP.
Repeat the steps that resulted in the installer crash
After the crash, open the following folder: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Dr Watson
Locate the file named with the extension .dmp that corresponds with the correct date and time
Zip up the .dmp file and mail it (or a dropbox link) to [email protected] with a link to this thread.
In addition to the .dmp, please post or send me your Flash Installation.log.
Where do I find the Flash Player installation log on Windows?

  • Work-around for flash player hangs/freezes during initialisation...

    Hello all,
Are you also facing the problem that the flash player hangs/freezes during execution of an xcelsius file? Try if the following work-around works also for you.
I am (was) facing the same problem: a swf file about 1474 kb with many components, generated with Xcelsius 5.3.2.0., trying to view with flash player 10.1.82.76. Did also hang/freezed! The file was originally build with version 5.3.0 and worked o.k. then...
The work-around which works for me is the following: I had all my components organized in groups. After ungrouping them all (which I think is a major drawback) and exporting it to swf, the report works! File size is more or less the same...
Maybe you can give this work-around a try for your own work....
So I think the SAP/Adobe bug has something to do with grouping of components or grouped components build in an earlier version of Xcelsius 2008... The following test that I will perform is ungrouping the components and then re-grouping them again in version 5.3.2.0....
    Greetings
    Erik-Jan Vriens

Thank you for sharing this. Had a similar problem before and did some tinkering around with the file and all of a sudden it worked again. Fair bet it was exactly that as well.
In general Xcelsius performance goes down the drain if you start using many components. It is to be expected, somewhat, I guess. Various bugs also pop up because components do not always seem to play nice.
One thing I have found as well is that if you are doing a waterfall approach of constructing with a bunch of iterations in the implementation phase, you may end up with a bunch of components that were there early on. Sometimes they start messing up over time, because you've been playing with the data below or with the chart itself. E.g. on line charts label start distorting, or the frames flicker. In radiobutton boxes the boxes are not aligned properly. Checkbox labels are clipped at the end until you hover over them etc..
Solution: remove the components, add anew. If not too many components with a tough spreadsheet below, export Excel, start a new.
