Flash Project Management System

I was wondering if there has been a UI built in flash for a
project management system. What Im looking for is an app where the
managers would drag and drop their resources into a timeline for
projects and they would be able to stretch resources along the
timeline for each project. It would basically look like a Gant
Chart, but with user interactivity. Just basically asking if this
has already been done, is there an example of the work I could see,
would this be a fairly easy project, or if am I wasting my time
here.

I'm not looking for a full blown project management system; more like an activity (to-do) list in a subject lookup hierarchy, possible with email reminders of what's coming due. (something like expand-collapse subject areas with text, date, name and status fields). I've done something similar in Visual Basic wtih an Access DB holding the information. It doesn't look so great but does the job.

This should be driven from your internal requirements for the toolset. Not sure you will find anything helpful as nobody will know your requirements. Maybe you could reach out to a Microsoft PPM partner to help you understand your requirements and help build
your RFP. Maybe look for a PPM partner on Microsoft Pin Point and see if they can help you.

Using BC as a Project Management System

Hi Guys,
I'm new to business catalyst, I have signed up to the WebMarketing package and have created my first site. I am including several features to the site including a private forum and several forms for submitting data. I would also like to have a private area to manage projects between the members of the site. This would have task breakdowns, assigning particular tasks to different members and due dates with % completed data, ideally there should be a document system where the work can be saved and linked to on the task page. I just need some advice on whether or not this is possible using business catalyst or if I need to use some external software.

Since BC doesn't allow you to run server side code or access the data base directly, I can not see the way of doing it at BC end. That said, you can look at different project management solutions out there and perhaps customise it to match the look and feel of your BC site. I'm quite sure that redmine allows this. Check it out at http://www.redmine.org/. Depending on the level of customisation you require you may have to learn some Ruby on Rails.

Managing a large Flash project

I work for a game development studio in London. We are prototyping using Autodesk Scaleform and building our game UI using Flash. We will need to be able to run a large project with a team of 3-4 artists and 10+ programmers. We use Perforce source control system for storage of all code and assets. We need to be able to manage a project with multiple shared resources and multiple people (artists & programmers) working on screens and controls.
Our problem is as follows:
We want to be able to create skinned graphical custom components, such as buttons, sliders, checkboxes as well as more complex controls such as tables and game specific elements.
We want to be able to share graphics assets in a single location and allow multiple artists and coders to work on shared components simultaneously. We need all of this to be stored in a Perforce source control repository.
For AS3 code this is all fairly straight forward. It works like any other codebase and we have set up FlashBuilder and FlashDevelop projects.
Now, the options seem to be as follows:
- Create a flash project or projects. The problem here is that all of the assets are copied into AuthortimeSharedAssts.fla. This means that, because FLA is a binary format, our source control cannot allow more than one person to edit any shared resource at the same time.
- Set up manual authortime sharing. This will allow work on multiple shared components because individuals can update a small discrete FLA file and this will automatically update a larger shared librar. The problem is that this does not allow sharing of graphics assets, which means that, if an artist updates a graphic, this does not filter down to individual flash files.
- Use the XFL format. This would allow us to merge files when checking in to source control as they are plain text and it saves out individual assets as separate files, which looks perfect. The problem is that I can't see how to make a project, which entirely uses XFL files (i.e. makes something like AuthortimeSharedAssets.xfl).
At the moment I can't see any obvious, sensible way of running a large project in Flash. We cannot be the first to do this sort of thing though.
Can anyone help or explain how we should do it?

Just an $0.02 that is probably the hardest solution to implement, you really need a good project manager. You can't expect great results from tossing a bunch of autonomous bodies in motion on shared resources with no human control mechanism. Software can help but your format is ultimately binary, so outside Smart Objects (which haven't worked well in a networked multi-OS environment for me), you're not going to gain the benefits of traditional diff for source code.
Consider implementing either a project manager or even better, a project manager with decent project management software. It can be as cheap as Copper Project. You're given a hud with tasks and it's up to the Project Manager to assign the tasks so nothing overlaps and collisions are avoided from the start. It's even a large challenge in the binary world for a high quality Project Manager.
If you really need a garage level setup, you may simply have to employ locking network files that are in use. Anyone trying to use something won't be able to, it will stifle progress but you won't run into overlaps or impossible merges. It's just brute force and inefficient.

Document Management System for Struts Project

I am doing a J2EE project in struts, in which i need to implement document management system containing the following features :

2. File Sharing
3. Giving Permissions to Files, etc
Instead of building a DMS from the scratch I am looking for a open source DMS solution which I can customize as per my needs and implement in my project. Since my project is based on struts, I am looking for a struts based solution.
Please tell me if there are any good open souce DMS like these.

Project Management Question - timelines for Production system deployment

Hi
I need an expert advice on setting up timelines for establishing an Oracle Apps Production environment. We are implementing Oracle HR & Payroll at an organization.
Our system architecture is a 2-node application tier and 2-node DB tier (RAC). RAC is configured by another party and we only have to prepare the application tier (2 nodes)
We would be installing Oracle Apps R11i (11.5.10) with jserv load balancing on the 2-nodes
Can anyone suggest how much time this should take to install/configure & patching of the application tier (on 2 nodes)?

Flash integration with Learning Management System

Has anyone had any experience hooking Flash up with a

System Level freeze When running Project manager...

LOGIC PRO 7.2.3
OSX 10.4.8
G5 quad
When I Attempt to initialize the preferences, the whole system FREEZES UP.
This happens when it is attempting to rebuild the "Tree".
AND...
If I launch the "Project Manager" it locks up the system when reading the directory tree....
This is a CLEAN INSTALL of 10.4.8.....
BLACK SCREEN "You must restart your Computer"...

Yes, but you're not going to like it.
Before I say more, let me tell you that I went through a similar situation when I first got my G5 (which was a dual 2.7). Kernel panics, every problem in the book. (I recently went through a similar episode with my Quad). And so the advice I'm going to offer you may seem absolutely radical. It might even make you mad. But most of what I'll advise was exactly the advice offered to me over a year ago by this forum's members and it got me up and running.
First, try re-initializing the firmware on your computer. Best thing to do is take it to an Apple store and have them do it. It's a 2-minute process that could potentially cure all of your machine's ills.
When you're there, ask them to show you how it's done. It's not something to be done on a regular basis and a pretty radical thing to do, but it could knock the sense back into your computer in a pinch.
If that doesn't solve the problem, you will need to start from scratch. This means wiping your hard drive entirely (down to zeros). Then re-install the software from your factory OS CD and NOT a clone of your existing drive.
The reason this is necessary is this: there is every possibility that the OS on your system -- as installed by Apple -- is the very thing that's corrupting your computer/making you unable to run Logic. If you want the explanation I'll give it to you, but suffice it to say that the OS on your factory install CD is correct for your computer, whereas the OS installed BY the factory on your computer may not be. This is not BS or voodoo. It's a documented fact (documentation can be found on Apple's very own website).
Anyway, after you've wiped your drive and installed the OS from the disk, your very next step would be to install ProApps 3.1.
Then install Logic and do not copy your preferences from an older backup, period.
Yes, it will be a total PITA to re-establish all of your key commands from scratch, but by doing so you can guarantee that your preferences are absolutely virgin.
The next step is to update the OS to whatever you want it to be.
After this, start installing your 3rd party plugs and anything else you want to add to the computer.
I suggest you follow these steps exactly in this order, as it worked for me, and worked very well.

For my LMS, requirement is this
Requirement : User login and after that he would get a homepage. In the homepage, we need to show the details of the leave taken along with option of leave application.
Similarly an admin shud have option to register the new user and also check his leave status (no of leaves). Shud be able to generate a report for the same.
A mail shud go to the manager for the leave application from the employee.

Adding a New Folder in Project Manager Crashes RH

For the past few days, I have been having problems creating
new folders in RH 7, Project Manager. Sometimes, it works just
fine, and I can add folders, drag topics into them, import into
them, create new topics, whatever.
But then sometimes, the project manager just goes to white
and flashes at me for a while, then RH crashes. The only things I
can see in the PM pane are the triangular colored icons that
overlay folders / topic icons when they include conditional build
tags. No topic names, no folder names, just a column of these
triangles.
When I come back into RH after the crash, most times there
are topics to reimport and / or relocate. I have rebuilt the cpd
file several times. Each time it seems to resolve the issue, but
eventually another crash comes along as I try to add a folder.
For the record, just updated to the new 7.02.001 a few
minutes ago, but RH just crashed again. 3GB RAM, more than 40GB
space available on hard drive. Nothing new on my PC that I can
think of.
Anyone else seeing this?

I'm just wondering if anyone has found a cause or solution of this issue?
I'm experiencing it too with one of my projects (currently, I'm on RH8.02.202 on Win7/64, but I've also experienced it in RH7 on WinXP/32, FWIW).
Some other details:
My project is on my C:\ drive.
The folder names are all comprised solely of alphanumerics and underscores.
I've deleted both the PSS and CPD files without any noticeable positive effect.
Since I've been on RH8, the project is set to rebuild the .cpd cache upon opening, but I've also tried deleting it (this might be redundant, but I figured the RH "rebuild" might be different from generating a brand new one).
After I force RH to close, the folder is there when I reopen the project, and the folder behaves normally.
The project resides in the standard "My RoboHelp Projects" folder.
The problem seems to be isolated to this project, which is my largest (~2065 topics in ~85 folders)
I'm at the point where I just automatically force RH to close after I create a folder rather than waiting to for the application to become "officially" non-responsive.
Are there any other files I might try deleting or examining? I've poked around in the .xpj, .fpj, and .hhp files, but I don't see anything odd. I compared my old .pss with the new one RH created, and they were identical.

Unable to open Project management reports

Hi,
I tried to access Reports under Project management, I can see some list of reports but whenever i click any report i get this message " Do you want to save this file or find a program online to open it , Name : BExab6f08f3 , type : unknown , from: xxxxxx " . I get this whenever i try to access any reports in project management.
I had checked few things from my side, /BCV/Main is activated, I have BCV_admin role and also CPR_BCV_USER role, but still i am not able to view a single report. I tried accessing from NWBC desktop GUI and web gui, same error. Please guide me in solving this problem.

I just have some clarifications, is it necessary to have BI system to access the Reports under Project management / portfolio management?, Or can it be accessed without any BI system?. I found that whenever I run any report under Reports section it tries to execute the RFC SAP_BW, but in my system there is no data available in that RFC, since we dont have BI.please let me know about this.

Solution manager system log - strange entries

the problem we are facing in Solution Manager system log every five minutes appears a new error message:

Some of the systems are being connected successfully and the error messages in SM21 are not related to those systems. But some of the systems like DCR cannot be reached. And this fact causing the error messages.
I haven't configured Solution Manager because I have joined the project later. I would like to know what job is trying to access the satellite system and for what purpose.
On solution manager side I have checked all the scheduled background jobs - all of them have been executed successfully.
There some of them are scheduled but it is hard understand what is purpose of the job.
I have checked and corrected system landscape through SMSY and have maintained all the RFCs. They all OK now.
What else could force to make a connection to satellite system? And where is the place where it is hardcoded local(satellite) db2 connection entry?
Like I said before, some of the systems are being connected but some not. The one which has not been connected - there was recently changed SAP master password. I believe this is the key to resolve the problem. But the system itself operating 100% correctly.
Perhaps it could be CCMS that makes some extra connections to collect the data from the monitored systems. But I have checked all the RFC's in SM59 and they were OK.
Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.

It was dbacockpit. The connection was maintained with old db2sid password. And it was causing problematic log entries.

SAP PS & SAP Project Management

Hi all of you,
Can any one give me clarity on the available functionalities in SAP Project Systems and that of SAP Project Management. My requirement is, my client is using one Project Management tool, where can get all the project monitoring and as well as Project cost and revenue with Dashboards. I am implementing PS to take the accounting data from the tool, to get integration with FI,CO, SD, and MM. In their Project Management tool apart from the cost management, they have Change Management, defects management, test management, process templates, life cycle templates, project goals with specific and project performance monitoring like dashboards. Actually, I am taking the interface part like WBS, Planned cost, Schedules, Resource cost etc.. I am unable to take the non accounting data to SAP PS.
My doubt is, can we implement SAP Project Management module to replace the tool, since in PS we have FI and CO data with schedules, for example. If I required the same things, non accounting data like Defects management track, change management, testing management, which SAP module we have to implement. More over, my client is also wish to discard the tool, if the same functionalities available in SAP.
Please correct me, if I am wrong and also suggest me how we can get the same things in SAP.

A good project management app?

I'm working on a large project (a book) and am looking for something to keep my deadlines together and to break my work into manageable chunks. I know there are a lot of good programs like OmniPlan, but I just need to plan out my own project—I'm not coordinating a team or working with other people—so a program like OmniPlan is way more than I need. Does anyone know of any good personal project management software?

If you happen to use Microsoft Office 2004, the Project Manager in Entourage is actually quite good. I started using it a few weeks ago.
There are a bunch of open source web based project managers that you could setup pretty easily on your system as well. That with the use of MAMP, you could easily setup something up for free in no time.
