Flex 3 : XML File as DataProvider to a Combobox

Hi,
I am uisng Flex 3 for our Application Front End
I am having an External XML file as shown
<states>
            <state>Andhra<state>
    <state>Telangana<state>
            <state>Rayalseema<state>
    <state>Maharatsthra<state>
</states>
and with lots of data ---etc
I am having a Combobox , how can use this Above XML file as Dataprovider to my Combobox
please sugest , thanks .

Unfortunately I don't have the
"org.eclipse.swt.win32.win32.x86_3.1.2.jar" file. On my computer
the folder is not set up the same way (C:\Program Files\Adobe\Flex
Builder 2\plugins) instead it is set up as (C:\Program
Files\Adobe\Flex Builder 2\metadata\plugins) but I've looked in
everything and that file just isn't in there. I've re downloaded it
twice. Still not there. Is there anything else i can do.

Remove web services and http service tests that were removed by Bill from qa feature.properties files otherwise the automated test frameworks will try to run these tests and blow up.

Issue with Adobe flex data.xml file not reachable from bsp behind firewall

Hi Gurus,
I have a problem with the <mx:HTTPService> tag the following is the actual tag,
<mx:HTTPService
id="Srv"
url="data.xml"
useProxy="false"
method="POST" result="resultHandler(event)"/>
When accessed locally I can see the data in the flex as the data.xml can be reached. when the same is accessed from internet behind firewall, the url is entirely different and the .swf file in the BSP page cannot access the data.xml. I cannot give the absolute url in the tag as the BSP page application is accessed differently in different servers. any help on this would be greatly appreciated

Sorry somehow I missed this question, an even easier way to do this is to allow your Flash movie to "script" ( this is the default behavior for a Flex application ) and then call some javascript to obtain exactly what the page URL is and then go from there to get your data:

Loading XML files into flex application

Hi Im trying to load an xml file into my app. The only thing is that its not in the same directory as the application. I'm very new to flex/air and have read alot of articles but cant seem to figure out what i'm doing wrong. I have this so far

I dont even know if this is how you are supposed to do it but my ultimate goal is to load the xml and display it on a datagrid.

You can't! Well, at least Flex cannot do this. All Flex can
do is send this data -- any data -- to the server and it's up to
you how you want to append this data to a file on the server.
You see, flex can't write to local files. If you looking for
client side file manipulation, take a look at Flex's desktop
brother call AIR!

Reading complex XML file in flex

I have searched the web but found very primitive xml
examples. I want to read a complex xml file which through
httpservice .
The xml file is ultimately going to become dataProvider of a
tree. But I have no idea how to traverse this xml file. mentioned
under are the xml file and HTTPService tag.
I want to traverse it in the resultHandler function.

Yes, as Greg says, use e4x.
To do this you must set the HTTPService resultFormat="e4x";
In you handler, do:
var xmlResult= XML(event.result);
trace(xmlResult.toXMLString());
and away you go.

Flex Widget in Acrobat 9 access xml file

Hi,
I made a Flex application which accesses an xml file on my pc. When I insert the application in Acrobat 9, the data in the xml isn't loaded. I think that the Flash player in Acrobat 9 can't access the xml due to security reasons. Embedding the xml in the swf isn't an option because changes to the xml must be visible. What can I do to load the xml?

I can view the xml file via web browser. one more thing is if
i access the swf file under http request, it does work, say
http://localhost/xxx.swf.
Could tell me why i failed to run the swf file out of project/bin
folder by double click ?

Flex Photoshop Panel won't read local XML file

I've created a panel for Photoshop which reads an XML file to populate some controls. When run from Flash Builder 4 through the web browser it works just fine, but when run from within Photoshop the XML file is not being read. Uploading the XML file to a web site and referencing it via URL in the panel works sucessfully in both the web browser and from within Photoshop, suggesting some type of security issue.
The Panel Developer's Guide FAQ talks about giving the Adobe Flash Player trust permissions by creating .cfg files that reference the folder the panel is running from.
I have created these .cfg files and placed them in both:
/Library/Application Support/Macromedia/FlashPlayerTrust
and also in:
USER/Library/Preferences/Macromedia/Flash Player/#Security/FlashPlayerTrust
but the problem remains.
Environment:
Mac OSX 10.6
Photoshop CS5
Flex Builder 4
Flex SDK 3.5
Any help/suggestions appreciated.

I had the same issue but I got it to work. I figure I update this thread in case somebody is trying to do the same. I didn't need to use javascript in order to load the XML. Just create the XML object:
<mx:XML id="myXML" source="data.xml" format="e4x"/>
Remeber to use e4x. The in the AS3 code I bound it to a var:
private var _XML :XML;
_XML = myXML;
then....
private var _itemsXMLList :XMLList;
_itemsXMLList = _XML.node;
Don't forget to add "-use-network=false" to the properties > Flex compiler > additional compiler arguments.

I have a big XML file around 11 mb. I want to include this xml in my web application without embedding.
So anyone have idea to include.

If you don't want to embed the XML file into a SWF, then the SWF can download the XML file from the server at runtime when it needs it. But there will be a delay while that happens. Maybe it would be better to put the data in the XML file into a database and then access only the parts of it that you need.

How to edit xml files in flex builder 3

Hello Forum
I'm new to flex, trying to learn my way around it. I usually use Flash to write my actionscript, but the eclipse interface seems intruiging...
First question: I am setting up a config.xml file where the main variables are set for the application. For some reason Flex Builder 3 doesn't really let me edit or even create xml files? What is the reason for that? Do I need to install something additional? What am I missing?
This is a pure actionscript application by the way...
Any advice is much appreciated.

Help - Software updates - Find and install...
"Search new features and install" Next
"Europa Discovery Site" Finish
Choose any nearest mirror for your location.
Find "Web and JEE Development" folder.
There are "Eclipce XML Editors and Tools" and
"Web Standard Tools (WST) Project" check them to install. This plugins requier some other plugins, so it's easer to click "Select required" button on left side to check them all automaticaly.
After that standart installing procedure: Licence agreement, downloading and so on.

Help Required on Reading an External XML file in flex

How to edit/update data into an XML file using Flex and Actionscript

I can read an external xml file, please see the code below:

I can read an XML file and can add an extra node and can display it in a text filed. But I want to update the XML file contents which will come from the txtMonth and txtWeight text boxes.

I actually want to add another node inthe xml file. Files is at a local location and i can read the file and add an extra node (but I cant store this extra node in the actual XML file). But I want to save XML with the extra node.
For exmaple,
my current xml is:
