Flex Hero - Proper way to alter style/color

Surely there is an easy way to alter the color of the View...or specifically the Header/ActionBar at the top.
For example, like I see on this site:
http://thoughtfaqtory.com/blog/2010/11/10/adobe-flex-mobile-overview-part-1/
I'd like to be able to alter the background colors to something other then the default black.  Must I create a new skin for this?
Darren

I tried setting that in the "design" editor and didn't see any change...so I never thought of trying that.
Setting it directly in the mxml code on the MobileApplication object made the change.
Thanks,
Darren

  • Best way to alter Icon color/brightness

    Hello everyone,
    I would like to know what's the best/easiest way to alter the color and brightness of an Icon IE in a JLabel.
    I wish to do something like this:
    In a panel:
    JLabel picture = null;
    picture = new JLabel(new Icon(new BufferedImage(...));
    picture.setText("");
    add(picture);and then have two methods (IE: picture.shade() and picture.unshade()) to darken and brighten the icon in the JLabel at will, to simulate "active" and "not active" statuses.
    Thank you in advance!
    Fabio.

    You can't create an instance of Icon since it's an interface, you should create an ImageIcon:
    JLabel picture = new JLabel(new ImageIcon(new BufferedImage(...));
    picture.setText("");This is unnecessary - picture text is already the empty string.
    and then have two methods (IE: picture.shade() and picture.unshade()) to darken and brighten the icon in the JLabel at will, to simulate "active" and "not active" statuses.You will need to change the brightness of the image: [http://java.sun.com/developer/JDCTechTips/2004/tt0210.html]

  • Any way to alter one color in a PDF?

    I have some files that are 2/c black and magenta. I was told that the final pdfs could not be created with PMS color and so the 2nd color work (everything that was magenta) is implemented at the printer. And now there is no way of changing the color in the PDF's. They said that they used a generic color because they hadn't determined the 2nd color when typesetting was underway.
    Is there absolutely no way, or just no easy way. There is text as well as raster elements.

    Do you mean pitstop for editing the file or the output? I just want to edit the file so I can put it on the web for preview. Otherwise we get emails and calls asking if its really pink :) I'm not printing. They handle all that stuff, I'm just marketing.

  • What is the proper way to do Color Space Defaults?

    What is the proper way to do Color Space Defaults?   let the color checker chart fill the whole frame or just put the  color checker chart in  front or aside items or people we are gonna shoot?

    I"m not sure how to use this through Direct Link ... as the timeline including all color-space things are locked down. Perhaps going through Sg in a "native" launch with some of the footage, though it would have to be in a codec Sg takes in "native" ... then doing the color chart thing, creating a Look from it, and then applying that in Direct Link sessions might be the process ... but yea, Dennis Weinmann, some advice here?
    Thanks!

  • What is the Proper Way to place a Background Image inside a Div?

    I have been searching Google and the Adobe forums for awhile now, and while there are very valid solutions to similar problems I found that none of them fixed the problem that I am facing. I blame myself and getting lost in this sloppy coding of mine, so part of my plan was to start my style sheet over from scratch.
    My question, what is the proper way to add a background image into a div? I currently have the top div following the "header" css style, here is what I have typed into that sections:
    <style type="text/css">
    @import url("../twoColLiqLtHdr.css");
    .header {
        width: 1000px;
        height: 300px;
        background-image: url(Assets/HeaderTemplate.png);
        background-repeat: no-repeat;
        background-position: center;
    The problem here is that the background image isn't even appearing. I would greatly appreciate any help, could anyone inform me on the proper way to doing this so that I can implement images in divs in the future without turning my coding in a down right mess?
    Thank you in advance.

    I apologize, I'm unable to post a link to the page just yet. This is a snip of coding for a website still in the making for the company I work for.
    Would any of the coding below help?:
    </script>

  • Is there a way to change the color of the Menu Bar (Snow Leopard)?

    Without using an external program, that is.
    I know you can change it with an external program, but I was wondering if anyone knows how to modify it from within OS X's files themselves?
    A similar question might be asked about the Dock, or Snow Leopard's Exposé.
         All modifications are done by navigating to: Mac OS Hard Drive/System/Library/CoreServices/Dock.app/Contents/Resources/
              Modify Exposé: expose-window-selection-big.png (for non-minimized windows), expose-window-selection-small.png (for minimized windows)
              Modify the color of the Dock: scurve-l.png, scurve-m.png, scurve-sm.png, scurve-xl.png
              Modify the color of the divider between apps and folders on the Dock: separatorstraight-horizontal.png, separatorstraight.png
              Modify the icon in the Dock when Stacks are activated: pileArrow.png, pileLeftArrow.png, pileRightArrow.png

    I agree that major OS upgrades (e.g. Snow Leopard to Lion) will probably change things back to normal, and I don't entirely trust external programs to change things for me.
    I'm going to stick around with Snow Leopard for a while though, so I was just wondering if anyone knew of a way to directly change the Menu Bar files themselves. The aforementioned modifications are just changes to the Dock's standard PNG files, so it's relatively easy to alter its color/design (backing up the original Dock.app just in case).

  • Is there any way to change the color scheme in a document in Pages?

    I have come from a PC using Publisher for a weekly newsletter and am trying to use Pages to accomplish the same thing.  i want to change the color scheme from week to week and have not found a way to accomplish this.
    I am currently using Word for Mac for this, but I would like to move over to Pages.  I'm playing with it some, but can't seem to find a way to change the color of the publication from week to week.  To change to another template all together would cause me to have to reinvent the wheel each and every week, and I'm not willing to do that.
    Adobe Illustrator is an option, but it looks mighty complicated to set it up...  And I've balked at the price tag.
    Any suggestions?

    Pages does not have Themes like Word.
    There might be other ways to achieve what you want by swapping master objects and changing colors of Styles. A bit more work but not horrendously more.
    You can name color swatches in the Color Picker so you could set up a set of colors there then update styles and objects systematically using those swatches.
    Illustrator would be an extremely poor choice for a Newsletter.
    Have a look at the new Swift Publisher 3 in the App Store, currently 30% off. They have added some very good tools that have brought it into a much more Pro usable form. Including many key features that Pages lacks.

  • Do you know why the span style="color: Transparent;" build tag is set in topics as if by magic?

    Hello,
    We are using Robohelp 9 - 9.0.1.232
    It happens that some topics contain the <span style="color: Transparent;"> build tag.
    It seems that RH9 sets this tag by its own. We do not manage such tags.
    We come upon this while viewing one of our compiled CHM files. There was a big empty space inside a paragraph.
    We opened and found that the text was present. Using the HTML view, we discovered that the empty space in the CHM file corresponded to a paragraph included in the <span style="color: Transparent;"> build tag.
    For example, this morning, looking at a topic of another CHM file, we found When the tool runs,. The rest of the sentence was included in a <span style="color: Transparent;"> build tag.
    This is extremely annoying, as we do not know that this tag is set, until we discover it. We ar elikely to deliver doc with missing information without knowing it, until a customer complains.
    Has anyone encountered this or has an idea about this? How can we prevent RH9 from setting this tag?
    Thanks for your help

    Hi there
    First, let's get a bit clearer on our terminology, shall we?
    What you are seeing is not a "Build Tag". Sure, the Span indicates a tag and it's there when you build, but a "Build Tag" is a special tag inside RoboHelp that you apply to specific content that you wish to omit from the build using a counterpart known as a "Build Expression".
    A Build Tag in RoboHelp looks like this:
    <?rh-cbt_start condition="InProgress" ?>New model coming<?rh-cbt_end ?>
    What you are reporting is an inline styling element.
    Is this a project that began life in RoboHelp 9? Or was it created in an earlier version and was upgraded along the way? Does the same thing occur with a totally new topic you create?
    Cheers... Rick

Please help....

    Hello,
    The only current way is to use an iFrame, or if you only need some html tags you could use the Text Layout Framework.
    Here this is the iFrame approach:
    http://code.google.com/p/flex-iframe/
    If the swc do not work in Flex4 just use its ource code which works...
    ...it is basically based on this:

  • What is the proper way to create a monotone image with real looking contrast?

    Once I apply a color to my previously created black and white image everything looks washed out.
    I have an artwork with 3D representation of the letterforms, casting shadows on the textured surface. Shadows are deep black. I need this artwork to be colored in gold. My client forwarded me the specs for the metallic gold which he got from the PANTONE. They are:Gold (871); Adobe 1998 RGB: 126-113-76
    HSB*: 44 degrees-40%-50%
    What is the proper way of applying those values to the desired image.
    My idea was to make the image black and white and than create a monotone image with the above specs. In this case the image gets washed out as the darkest black in the shadows becomes this Pantone gold. Is there any other way?

    A duotone will work, however you are going to want to work closely with your printer . Most printers will want the second color in CMYK (Possibly C60 M40 Y0 K100 instead of RGB values or specify a Pantone Rich Black (I personally like 6C)but it will cost you more for the wash up of both heads of the printer...
    Go to Image>Mode>Duotone (image must be greyscale first for this to work) then add the desired colors to your ink scales.

  • What is the proper way to include search terms in your page

    Say you have a web page that is about a certain topic and has information displayed on the page.  What is the proper way to include terms that you would like this page to show up on a search for but don't necessarily want to display on the page?
    I didn't know if including the search keywords at the bottom in small font with invisible color was the proper way.

    I didn't know if including the search keywords at the bottom in small font with invisible color was the proper way.
    ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!  This practice will get your site banned or blacklisted from Search Engines.  It is considered a Black Hat tactic to attempt to mislead search engine results in an effort to drive traffic to your site.
    Instead, use plenty of keyword rich, relevant text and good semantic mark-up (h1, h2, h3) inside the body of your pages.   In time, search engines will find you.

  • Proper way to pass 'this' to an anonymous listener

    I have added a button to copy some information to the clipboard. Instead of a class-level actionPerformed() method I am using an anonymous listener:
         JButton jb = new JButton("Copy QE");
         jb.setBackground(bgc);
         jb.setForeground(Color.lightGray);
         jb.setToolTipText("copy the information below to the clipboard");
         final HelpBox that = this;
         jb.addActionListener( new ActionListener() {
             public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) {
              StringSelection ss = new StringSelection(that.toString());
              Clipboard cb = Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit().getSystemClipboard();
              cb.setContents(ss, SIHwheel.logBox);
         });It seems to be working fine. I am wondering, though, is the final declaration of that the proper way? Is there a better overall methodology?

    A common approach is to encapsulate the logic into a method on the enclosing class. Then, the listener would just call the method:
    private void someMethod() {
      // init the JButton...
      jb.addActionListener( new ActionListener() {
        public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) {
          updateClipboard();
    private void updateClipboard()
      StringSelection ss = new StringSelection(this.toString());
      Clipboard cb = Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit().getSystemClipboard();
      cb.setContents(ss, SIHwheel.logBox);
    }

  • What's the proper way of mixing voices on top of loud music?

    Hello!
    I'm working on a little something that contains very loud music and very loud voices mixed together.
    It sounds great on my Logitech G35 headphones, but when playing it through my studio monitors in the living room, the voices seem to get a little drowned out by the music (The music is at a pleasingly loud level that I wish to keep, as it doesn't sound as powerful as soon as I bring it's gain down a little).
    So I was wondering what is the proper way of keeping the great loudness of the music and the voices at the same time, but make the voices a little more understandable?
    The music and the voices are on seperate tracks of course in my Audition file.
    Here is an example of what it sounds like currently: http://soundcloud.com/stefanpanic/gameshow-trailer
    Thanks in advance!

    Okay, with my acoustician's hat on:
    Headphone mixing - especially when it comes to voices in the centre of a stereo field - has always been a disaster area, and you can almost always spot when a mix has been made to play on headphones, because the vocal is invariably too quiet.
    I suppose that the easiest way to explain this is to consider what happens to the central voice with loudspeakers. That voice is essentially a virtual image; there isn't a loudspeaker there to support it. So it's been created out of the off-axis responses of your loudspeakers, and is in a space that's quite a distance from your ears, compared to where it would be on headphones. So, the level of this voice depends as much on the angle of your speakers as anything, and whilst this varies considerably between different setups, it's still considerably different to the relationship that headphones have with your ears!
    Traditionally in the past, it's been recommended that you should sit in an equilateral triangle with your speakers, which should be pointing towards you which means an included angle of 120 degrees between them. Despite this information being repeated all over the place since the 1950's, there's no physical basis for it at all, and most people don't have setups like that anyway. And I have to say that this really isn't good positioning for establishing a central image - that angle is too great, and you are relying on an extremely good off-axis response to achieve any level at all there.
    In this day and age, what you really need is a monitoring compromise that will let you create a mix that sounds not so bad on both headphones and loudspeakers, and there are a couple of things you can do to improve the situation considerably, and get a generally better result. And FWIW, it's what I do in this situation...
    The first is to alter the angle of your monitors so that the included angle is 90 degrees (a right-angle) and sit so that both of them are pointing directly at your ears. This gets you a lot closer to the monitors, admittedly, but is far more realistic as far as a compromise mix is concerned. If you do your whole mix like this, you'll find that it's a lot easier to position things in it too. And don't put anything like soft furnishings between them either - that will definitely make things worse. The second thing is that one of the important things you should always do with a mix like this, to finally establish vocal levels, is to listen to it really quietly. No, really quietly! Almost at vanishing point. What you should hear is the whole mix, but if anything is standing out (like the vocal), it will become obvious like this in a way that it simply won't when it's louder. You want it to be there, certainly - but it shouldn't be either missing or standing out too much.

  • Proper way to install CS5

    When going from CS4 to CS5, what is the proper way? Should I install CS5, then uninstall CS4 later or should CS4 be romved, restart and then install CS5?
    I done it the first way and it gave me some problems opening up old Photoshop files. Didn't know if I did a complete uninstall first if it would make it work right.
    Thanks

    Insert the CS5 DVD and follow instructions.  CS4 and CS5 can co-exists but only one or the other can be opened a any given time. When you no longer need CS4 it may be un-installed.  Try to keep what you install into Photoshop out of Adobe install trees. However some third party add-ons insist on beeing installed into each versions of Photoshop install tree. Actions and other things like brushes shapes styles etc can be loaded from anywhere.  Photoshop  Plug-ins tree can be linked to your plug-in tree in Photoshop preferences.  Most Plugins are compiled programs and there are some that will be 32bit only and some 64bit.  If you have a 64bit OS the Photoshop CS5 will install two versions of Photoshop CS5 a 64 bit version and a 32 bit version on your system.
