Flex performance on Atom in IE

We have a flex app that is compiled into one SWF about 3mb. It works fine on every platform except on Atom processor. Even on Atom it works fine in FF or IE with hyper threading off. But as soon as hyper threading is turned on, it takes several minutes for Flash player to load the app. Once loaded everything seems to be running ok.
The machine that is exhibiting the problem is a Dell Optiplex with Atom 330 1.6GHz processor and 3 GB of RAM running XP SP3. Once again, this problem only occurs with various versions of IE and Flash player only when hyper threading is turned on.
Has anyone ran with this issue related to Atom processor and Hyper threading.
Thanks,
Alex

Thanks for the reply.
I think I need to clarify something.  I can view the file from the server in Mozilla and Safari but not on IE.  If the source wasn't right, I don't think it would display in any browser (at least that's what I'm thinking).  Funny thing though.  I got to looking at the source code from the browsers and IE is completely different than Safari or Mozilla.  Not sure how that's working.

  • Using Flex Performance Profiler for Profiling Flex  with Java Applications

    Hi , I am planning to use Flex Profiler to profile my Application .
    I have developed a sample Application using Flex MXML ,some ActionScript classes for Events and Cairngorm , Java , Oracle as database and Blazeds .
    Can i use Flex Performance Profiler to Profile my Application . ?? I am asking this question as i ad read the below line from Adobe site and My Application includes java Methods
    "You can use the profiler to profile ActionScript 3.0 applications " Can anybody please tell me What does this mean ?? and can i use the Flex Performnace Profiler . Please suggets me .

    Thanks Karl for the prompt response .
    I am making a call to a Java Method from my Action Script function , or getting data from Java Method into the ActionScript function .
    So my question  is , will the Flex Profiler will be applicable in this case as it internally calls Java Methods .

  • Flex performance issues

    hi
    By using an mvc architecture ,is it possible to overcome Flex performance issues...???
    Thanks
    Saritha S

    Excuse me ? If you develop a large scale application, you had better use a MVC architectural framework (with or without dependency injection) and additional design patterns like the presentation model. Otherwise, you will end up with code complexity as you try to overcome the inevitable structural problems as the application grows and THIS will end up in performance degradation.
    -          Run the profiler to identify bottlenecks and memory leaks: number of instances of a given class, execution time of methods, memory usage … E.g item renderers
    -          How much data is loaded, processed and displayed at any one time can have a big impact on performance. Reduce the amount of data: paging via parameter to the service
    -          Reduce the layout complexity: remove containers so nestLevel <= 4
    -          Remove event listeners: addEventListener () calls with corresponding removeEventListener() calls (do not use addEventListener() with weak reference as it decreases performance)
    -          Deferred instantiation of UIComponents (e.g Viewstack children) aka lazy instantiation
    -          Garbage collection: check Grant Skinner’s checklist
    -          Interrupted execution of complex functions (especially when looping on a large data set): the function monitors its execution time and yields (returns) when the current call exceeds a given duration (usually, that of a frame at 24 fps, which is the default Flex framerate). It is called again on the next frame and so on and so forth until processing is complete. You can use callLater() for that.
    -          Lazy loading of data
    -          Use more efficient code. Favour re-use of existing code in the Flex framework rather than re-writing what exists. Favour simple solutions over complex ones when possible.
    -          UID getter/setter in DTOs for improved performance in sorting / filtering of Array Collections
    -          Too many data bindings decrease performance. Mainly use data binding to bind views to the presentation models. Use the ChangeWatcher class or direct assignment of values when possible.
    -          Limit the number of calls to setStyle(). Use style declarations in CSS when possible.

  • Adobe Flex Performance iSSUE

    hI,
    I need to build UI using ADobe flex that will connect BPM system. I have concurrent 500 users. Is this is feasible to develop application(UI) using Flex for such kind of application.
    Thanks,
    Vikash

    Hello Victor,
    We are using Flex at Taleo for an application that can have much more than 1,000 concurrent users. You just need to make sure that your architecture can scale horizontally and vertically. Flex isn't the best here, we also do have performance issues. If speed is your primary target, I suggests you to go pure HTML (5) and Javascript (jQuery, Dojo, etc.)
    Good luck.

  • Flex Performance Issue 4.5

    I'm seeing HTTPService take up to three seconds from send() to result received. The server response is around 200ms. What could be causing this?

    That does give more data, although it's not clear to me what I'm seeing:
    (my result received) 383ms
    DirectHTTP MessageResponder.completeHandler 393ms (method stats show nothing)
    AsyncRequest.acknowledge 392ms (method calls DirectHTTPMessageResponder)
    Responder.result   390ms (method shows nothing)
    HTTPOperation 384ms (method shows nothing)
    there are about 1600 dispatch events that fire when the app starts up. The method is EventDispatcher.dispatchEventFunction, 422ms.
    The Callees are
    DirectHTTP MessageResponder.completeHandler 393ms
    [verify] 4ms
    TextContainerManager.dispatchEvent 2ms
    I assume these cumulative numbers would add up to the 5 seconds I'm seeing on some calls, but it looks more like they add up to around 1.2s.
    The DirectHTTP MessageResponder.completeHandler doesn't indicate that my result received is a callee, but I'm going to move that logic out of the result received to isolate the performance data.
    I'm assuming the flex contribution is 393 + 390 + 384 since each method is not a callee of the other. This still seems long. If you add in my result of 383, we're still less than two seconds. Still much less than the 5 seconds max I'm seeing.
    I would assume the cumulative callees of the dispatchEvent would have more than just those three above. I'm not filtering anything.

  • Flex Performance over Web based Solutions

    Hi,
    I have see how mucher quicker Flex has been over Coldfusion when processing XML/Web Services.
    I'm considering using Flex for a much bigger application, my thoughts are..
    A server side database
    A server side air application
    A client side air application
    The client side air application, will remotely administer the server side database.
    The server side air application will process 10's or maybe 100's of XML/CSV files into the database. I was thinking these processes can be managed as 'scheduled tasks' stored in the database and configured by the client side air application.
    Could Flex/AIR potentially be a better solution than using coldfusion with a server based admin and scheduled tasks?
    Thanks, Dan
    I know there might be better solutions with other technologies, but I do want to learn Flex so it would be an ideal opportunity.

    The project is to process product feeds provided by different retailers and collate them for price comparison purposes. There is no universal indentifier so the application will have to be very flexible.
    The CSV/XML files will be hosted on remote servers, and I will want to retrieve these on a regular basis. If I used Coldfusion and Stored Procedures then I wouldn't be using Flex.
    I could possible consider using Coldfusion and Stored Procedures for server side processing, and flex for a client administrative application.
    It just seemed to me I'd have an easier time of handling XML with Flex.

  • Flash performance inside mx:HTML in a Flex AIR app

    Hi. I'm new to AIR development and after doing some basic tutorials I thought I'd make a little stream player app.
    The amount of tutorials on the web made me choose Flex / Flash Builder over HTML & JavaScript. When I built the player in Flex I saw performance was terrible when out of focus, I would say it drops to 3 fps if not less. Surprisingly when I downloaded someone else's similar app, his didn't have that problem. On closer inspection - he made it in HTML & JavaScript and HTML AIR apps dont suffer from the same problem.
    Is there a fix for this Flex performance problem?
    I've made a video demonstrating the difference between Flex & HTML for your convenience: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OU2mfELhSC4.

    Sure.
    1.
    Windows 7 Ultimate, 64bit, build 7600.
    Adobe AIR 2.0.3.13070.
    Unfortunately I only have machines with the exact same OS install at my disposal right now but I'll ask some people to test it on their boxes.
    2. http://pastebin.com/AsdmD3Yb
    When I point the mx:HTML to a youtube url instead of ustream.html the fps drops around to around 5 to 10. That's a lot more fps than when using ustream. Might be a clue to whats happening.

  • How to stop the Flex application when user clicks on Cancel button from JS-confirm message?

    Hi All,
    I use the next code when a user clicks on a link:
    private function clickHandler():void
          ExternalInterface.call('confirm', 'Of course you want to go to the Adobe forums!');
          navigateToURL(new URLRequest('http://forums.adobe.com'), '_self');
    This will show up the javascript confimation box. But when the cancel-button is clicked, the user goes straightly to http://forums.adobe.com...
    How to stop Flex performing the next code when a user clicks on the Cancel button?
    Or, how to catch which button is clicked by a user in Flex?
    Thanks!

    I agree with Mr. Hall that using mx.controls.Alert in Flex may be a better route.
    Show the Alert like this:
    // show an alert with a question and yes and no choices
    Alert.show( "Would you like to go to the Adobe Forums?", "Question",
         Alert.YES | Alert.NO, this, closeHandler, null, Alert.YES );
    Then handle the response in the closeHandler() function:
    protected function closeHandler( closeEvent:CloseEvent ):void
    if( event.detail == Alert.YES )
         navigateToURL( new URLRequest('http://forums.adobe.com'), '_self' );
    else if( event.detail == Alert.NO )
         // they chose no
    The following documentation on Alerts may be helpful:
    http://www.flexafterdark.com/docs/ActionScript-Alert
    Let me know if that helps...

  • Flex Mobile Best Practies

    Hi to every one!!!
    I'm try to building an app for mobile with a flex mobile project.
    The UI is gonna be something like in the picture:
    I would like to know witch is the best practies to put all the grafics element into my views.
    For example, for the bricks (that comes from an xml) i created a component, inside the component i put my fxg file in a group with a gap:
    My View:
    <s:VGroup gap="10">
            <customComponents:BrickComponent/>
            <customComponents:BrickComponent/>
            <customComponents:BrickComponent/>
        </s:VGroup>
    BrickComponent:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
    <s:Group xmlns:fx="http://ns.adobe.com/mxml/2009"
             xmlns:s="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/spark" xmlns:assets="assets.*">
        <fx:Declarations>
            <!-- Place non-visual elements (e.g., services, value objects) here -->
        </fx:Declarations>
        <assets:Brick/>
    </s:Group>
    The same for the tshirt.
    It is a good way like this?
    And draw and import from flash catalyst?
    Thanks a lot

    You might want to look into using .FXG files for your graphics.

    From what I could tell, both had something to do with the initrd, but I'm not sure what to do in my specific situation. Additionally, according to my pacman.log the initrd was updated successfully during the upgrade. I did, however, also recently install some stuff to try to get my iPhone to tether to the netbook over USB (

    You may try to add or remove some hooks as this mysteriously helped some folks.
    Good luck.
    Well, chrooting and regenerating the initial ramdisk has fixed it! Thanks for the help!!
    Edit:  and just FYI, I didn't change any hooks in /etc/mkinitcpio.conf when I re-generated.  But yeah, if someone else has this issue, try playing with them.

  • LDAP or JNDI Synchronization Across JVMs?

    I need to perform an atomic operation (get & set) in
    LDAP that is synchronized between multiple
    applications (i.e. across JVMs).
    Is that possible using iDS 4.x or 5.x?
    Does iDS implementation of JNDI/LDAP API provide a
    global lock mechanism (I know that this feature is not
    supported in the API)?
    Here is my actual problem. I need to generate a unique
    id of type "long". This id should be unique across
    several Java applications. I would like to store this
    id in LDAP.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks, Shahriar

    There is no such locking mechanism. Is there a reason the unique id has to be type long? If not, then how about using a UUID? If it needs to be long, perhaps apportioning the number space between applications would work for you.

  • How do you synchronize accesses to a LabVIEW Shared Variable?

    I would like to create an ad-hoc weather station program (I'll explain more in a bit).  I am using LabVIEW 8.0 Full Edition, and I would like to share data over a network between stations with the LabVIEW Shared Variable.  Here's what I want to be able to do:
    A node would start up, and begin publishing data to a network via a shared variable.
    The shared variable is an array of clusters
    The cluster information would hold things like:
    Station Name
    Station Location
    Weather information cluster (temperature, rainfall, windspeed, wind direction, etc...)
    Timestamp of last update
    When a new node would like to enter, it would bind to the shared variable, grow the array, and add its information.
    If a node's Station Name and Station Location is already in the shared variable, it would merely update the information in the cluster.
    Viewing nodes could pop in, bind to the shared variable, and read/display the information at any time.
    I am trying to enumerate problems with this before implementing, and I have run into a stinker of a problem that I am not sure how to solve.  How do I synchronize accesses to the LabVIEW Shared Variable?  If I read the variable, modify it, and write it back, I will undoubtedly run into a race condition where 2 nodes attempt to update its data and I will lose the data written by the first node - Node A reads, Node A modifies, Node B reads, Node A writes, Node B Modifies, Node B Writes, and thus the modifications made by Node A are lost.  In my specific application losing some data isn't critical, but if not remedied this type of problem could cause massive amounts of data to be lost when there are numerous nodes, and that is definitely not acceptable.
    Does anyone have any recommendations on how to synchronize the read-modify-write operations on the data in the Shared Variable?
    -Danny

    Wendy,
    I am afraid Semaphores are not network-shared objects (to my knowledge), they are system-level objects that use operating-system synchronization mechanisms.  If I were synchronizing on a single machine, a semaphore might be a valid mechanism; as an aside, most user-mode semaphores are designed to synchronize within a single process - to synchronize between processes you need to store the semaphore in the Kernel, and to synchronize over a network you would need a network node to handle serialization of requests.  My Shared Variable is published over a network, and to my knowledge there are no network-published synchronization mechanisms available - mostly because there is no way to currently perform an atomic test-and-set on the Shared Variable (am I correct?) and there isn't a mechanism for blocking access to a Shared Variable from another network device/machine (or is there?).  I've been looking for some way to implement an atomic test-and-set but I am running into a wall; I know that if I select the "single writer" attribute of the Shared Variable I can get LabVIEW to force a single writer allowing me to have an atomic "set", but I need more than that.
    If only there was a network-shared Semaphore or some way to block other network accesses to the Shared Variable I would be in business - something like what I want doesn't exist, does it?
    Thanks!
    -Danny

  • Trouble with custom kernel for EeePC 1000H and bluetooth

    I believe I've got pretty much everything working on my 1000H except for bluetooth. I can't seem to get the hardware working. The module is loaded, and dmesg has references to bluetooth, but blueman does not list the adapter, and running "hcitool scan" from the command line returns "Device is not available: No such device".
    I've enabled every bluetooth-related item I can find in the kernel, so I don't see what I'm missing. I did import the config from the stock kernel, where bluetooth was working fine.

  • Two Phase Commit on Slow Network

    Can I implement two phase commit transaction using Windows 2000 Professional's Dial-Up Connection ? Where would I find information on this ? I connected two Windows 2000 Prof. PCs using Dial-Up Connection on Telephone line. Now if I try to ping service on other PC using TNSPING it gives me connection timed out, how should I tackle this issue ?

    Hi Ioakim
    Performing an atomic transaction(ACID) that spans a source system, BizTalk and then a different destination system is not possible. This is due to the nature of distributed transactions - it may not be practical to hold locks on resources(needed for atomic
    transactions) that are spread across different networks. Given that there is no guarantee that the resources may be released in a reasonable amount of time, transactions in BizTalk can only be scoped to and from the BizTalk MessageBoxDb. Or in other words,
    you can read a record to BizTalk transactionally and on the send side, send a message from BizTalk transactionally.
    However, you can simulate/fake atomic transaction characteristics(although tricky) using compensation logic within BizTalk orchestrations. So, lets say you read+delete a record from SystemA into BizTalk, and that record has to be updated in SystemB.
    If for some reason the insert to SystemB fails, you would have to write custom logic in a compensation block that then performs the reverse operation in SystemA - i.e., it inserts back the record in SystemA in this case. So, using compensating actions, it
    is possible to ensure that all the systems involved are transactionally consistent at the end of the day.
    There's an article from C.Young that discusses this in some detail-
