Flickering using Java Elements package

Im pretty new to Java and open to all suggestions for help.
Basically, Im creating a simple animation in a drawing window, and using the draw and clear commands to move the image. This is causing the image to flicker and I would like to know how to stop this.
I think it may have something to do with 'hold' and 'release' commands but like I say Im open to all suggestions
Im using the elements package to create the animation - all I could seem to find elsewhere was help for the AWT.
Cheers, Luke

What is the 'Elements' package? Is this a standard java sdk package?
Look into 'double-buffering' to resolve your flickering. Swing components are double-buffered by default.

• PDF created using Java iText package - Text not editable and not displaying font properties on Acrobat

Hi,
I have an issue in editing the text and viewing the font properties of a text region on a PDF created using Java iText package.
I use Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro Extended and the option Tools -> Advanced Editing -> TouchUp Text Tool.
The strange behaviour is that, I have 2 PDFs created out of the same base PDF and text added via Java iText package with the same Text, Font and other properties.
One of the PDF has the text region editable on Acrobat but the other one has the text region which is not editable.
But both the PDFs are editable via Adobe Illustrator.
I have attached both the PDFs for your reference
PDF_Editable.pdf - Editable on Acrobat
PDF_Not Editable.pdf - Not Editable on Acrobat
Any help or insight to find out the difference/issue with the PDF which is not editable via Acrobat would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

You don't have direct control of the leading of a multiline text field. A common approach is to control the background color of the field with JavaScript since the lines are not really needed when the field is used in Reader/Acrobat. They may be useful when using the form by hand. For more information, see the posts by Max in this topic: http://acrobatusers.com/forum/forms-acrobat/how-do-i-use-multi-lined-text-fields-over-prin ted-line-area-existing-form

• Using Java.io Package in JSP

Hi all,
I want to use java.io package in a JSP and read one htm file. the program is giving me exception that the file say index.htm does not exists.
I don't know how to solve this error. If any one can help me then it would be great. I don't want to use <%@ include %> or <jsp:include> tags.

How are you accessing the file index.html?
You might need to use the method new File(ServletContext.getRealPath("/index.html"))
which will convert your web reference into a real filepath on your system.

• How to deploy EAR on CE server using Java Support Package Manager

Hello,
I am using CE server where I want to deploy EAR file by using JSPM. I run this program in Drive:\usr\sap\CE1\J00\j2ee\JSPM\go.bat
I have also put the EAR file into the inbox folder Drive:\usr\sap\CE1\SYS\EPS\in but still It does not show me any file to proceed further for deployment.
Does any one has idea?
Regards,
NK

Hi,
The Java Support Package Manager is not able to deploy a single .ear file.
If the *.EAR file is placed inside an SCA (Software Component Archive) then JSPM is able to deploy it.
You have to create a .SCA from an .EAR file
SAP note 1223957 contains an attachment (nwpacktool.zip) which can be used to create a .SCA file from the .EAR file.

• File Locking using java.nio package

I am trying to lock a file using FileChannel's lock method on a CIFS file system. My application is on windows and the CIFS is accessed using UNC format ( \\1.2.3.4\blah.. ). I get the following error

ive got netbeans 4.1, and i need to install the extra package 'Java Elements' as part of my course. At university we have netbeans 3.6, and the way we told netbeans to use java elements was to go to file > mount file system, then mount the elements.exe file. However on my version of netbeans i cant find 'mount file system' or anything like it. can anyone help me?

• Getting a file name using java.io.file

Dear List,
I am having problems using java.io package. I am reading a string on a linux tomcat server. I am
trying to parse a windows type filepath (passed by a web-browser-client) and get only the filename. ie. sample.jpg.
fileName = "c:\\temp\\sample.jpg"
java.io.File file = new File(fileName);
onlyFileName = file.getName();
remember this on linux, and on my server onlyFileName contains "c:\\temp\\sample.jpg" and not sample.jpg as I would expect.
can any one tell me what I (yet again) dont understand.? Strangely enough when the server is on windows and I am passing a linux string with the fileseperator as a forward-slash, the code manages to derive the correct filename.
regards
Ben

Post this to the beginners forum - has nothing to do
with native methods.Apologies I thought Java.io would be "native".

• How do we create self-signed certificate using java packages

Hi All,
I require some information on creating self-signed certificate using java packages.
The java.security.cert.* package allows you to read Certificates from an existing store or a file etc. but there is no way to generate one afresh. See CertificateFactory and Certificate classes. Even after loading a certificate you cannot regenerate some of its fields to embed the new public key – and hence regenerate the fingerprints etc. – and mention a new DN. Essentially, I see no way from java to self-sign a certificate that embeds a public key that I have already generated.
I want to do the equivalent of ‘keytool –selfcert’ from java code. Please note that I am not trying to do this by using the keytool command line option – it is always a bad choice to execute external process from the java code – but if no other ways are found then I have to fall back on it.
Regards,
Chandra

I require some information on creating self-signed certificate using java packages. Its not possible because JCE/JCA doesn't have implementation of X509Certificate. For that you have to use any other JCE Provider e.g. BouncyCastle, IAIK, Assembla and etc.
I'm giving you sample code for producing self-signed certificate using IAIK JCE. Note that IAIK JCE is not free. But you can use BouncyCastle its open source and free.

• Modifying JAR file using java.util.jar package over the network

Hello,
I am modifying a JAR file programmatically using java.util.jar package. The time taken to save the contents to a local disk is very less (around 1 sec) . When I tried modifying the JAR from a remote machine over the network (from mapped drive or shared folder of WIN NT), the time taken to save is 15-20 times more.
I am recreating the whole JAR while modifying. Is there any way to improve the performance. Or is it possible to write only the changed files?
Thanks,
Prasad Y S.

When you "update" a jar file, you must always recreate it from scratch.

• 4gb file size limitation using java.io.* package in java stored procedure

Does anyone know about file size limitations when using java.io.* package inside java stored procedures. I have some java stored procedures that read and write to files. They error out when run as a java stored procedure within oracle on files over 4gb. I have no problems with these procedures when I test them outside of oracle.

I am using 10g Release 10.2.0.1.0, the java version returned by the Oracle JVM is 1.4.2_04
When I tested it outside of oracle I ran it using the java run time in ORACLE_HOME\jdk\bin and it works perfectly on files larger than 4gb.
Thank you for the UTL_FILE suggestion. I have considered using that but there is one method in Java that I can't seem to find a corresponding procedure for in PL/SQL.
RandomAccessFile.setLength()
This allows me to truncate a file. I have a need to strip bytes off the end of a file without creating a copy because I am working with large files and disk space may be limited. It is also much slower to read from the original file and writing the same bytes to a new file (minus the trailing bytes).
If anybody has any insight about the 4gb java.io limitation in Oracle JVM or has a workaround in PL/SQL for the RandomAccessFile.setLength() method in Java, I would really appreciate the help.
Thanks,
Thach
