Flotaing Title without AP Div tag

http://www.coachinginroads.com/dev/public_html/
I wish to create a slide show of several images on pages
within the site above. Is there a way to make the title "Coaching
InRoads" float on top of the images, or would I need to embed the
title into each image as I have on the home page? I would like to
avoid using an AP Div element, as it is absolutely positioned. I
also made the header/banner an editable region to be able to do
this on each successive page.
Thanks, -Barry

Where did I go wrong here?

  • In Flex, mimic a HTML DIV-tag without height constraint?

    Hi!
    I've posted a somewhat similar question here before and
    although the answer was appreciated I'm still wondering if what I
    want to do is possible.
    In HTML you can create a DIV-tag with a fixed width, say
    100px. If you, after that, let the height remain undefined, you can
    add content to the tag having it expand it's height appropriately.
    Is it possible to achieve the same effect in Flex, or do I
    have to have fixed width and height on the application? If I let
    the application have a width of 100px, letting the height be
    undefined, I get the application to be the same height as the
    browser window which is not the case with the DIV-tag above.
    Hope someone understands what I mean. Thanks!
    /Marcus

    If you do this:
    <mx:VBox width="100%">
    and then put things into this VBox container, it will grow
    vertically as much as it needs to without having a specific height.
    The Application tag is the same way. Eventually, when you exceed
    the visible part of the Flash Player, the Application (or VBox)
    will acquire scrollbars.

  • Gallery page download from + shadow without div tag?

    Hi guys, on my site I want to upload some images that can be downloaded for use by clients - not high-res, but high enough quality for them to use in Word docs, emails, etc. I have made image galleries before but these don't allow the viewer to download pics. What do methods others use for this purpose?
    Also, I was watching this tut on how to  put a dropshadow around a site http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cT1JAOB9XVI&feature=player_detailpage#t=198
    but it requires a div tag wrap . My site hasn't got any div tags at all http://tatlerprime12.co.nz/venues.html Do I need to create one to have a drop shadow? If so, how?
    If not, what's another way to put a dropshadow around my white table?
    Thanks in advance for advice.
    Jo

    1) Group images into  folders and zip the folders.  Place a link on your page to the zip file.  If no folders needed, tell people to right click on image to save it.
    2) CSS Dropshadows

  • Gap around div tag

    Hello Dreamweavers.
    Ive made a div tag and Ive centered it in the middle of my page. But on the top there is a gap.
    Ive seen some articles where it says to add:
    margin: 0;
    padding: 0;
    Im doing so, but im still getting that gap on the top.
    this is my CSS
    #box1 {
              background-color: #00F;
              height: 200px;
              width: 600px;
              padding: 0px;
              margin: auto;
    I have margin to Auto in order to center the box, is this correct?, there for I add the 0 padding in order to get rid of the gap.

    You could try adding the following to the top of the CSS
        margin: 0;
        padding: 0;
    or better still, add a normalise script as in

  • Problem to place Div tags

    I am developing a web site using div tags under Dreamweaver.
    Until now, I succeeded to place the different blocks using
    CSS rules.
    One of the block has an automatic height definition;
    sometimes it can be 100 pixels high, the other time 200 pixels
    high.
    I need to add a block that will come immediately below the
    previous one.
    So sometimes it may be placed from 100 to 150 pixels,
    sometime it may be placed from 200 to 250 pixels.
    I don't know how to define the position of this block :
    absolute, relative? I tried different solutions; I do not succeed
    to make the block comming immediately after the previous.
    Should someone help me?
    Thanks a lot.

    > I don't understand what does 'normal flow' mean.
    Google it, and read about it. It's the process by which the
    browser renders
    the page from the top of the code to the bottom and places
    page elements as
    they encounter them.
    > The first div
    > tag has the following parameters :
    > position: absolute;
    You will not get anything to float under this div, since
    absolute positioned
    elements are removed fromt the normal flow, meaning that they
    are placed on
    the page in that location without regard for what else might
    be immediately
    before or immediately after it in the code.
    This is why best practice is to not use layers for page
    layout.
    In your case, if you REMOVE the absolute positioning, you
    will get exactly
    what you want, e.g.,
    <style type="text/css">
    <!--
    .test {
    width: 100px;
    .test1 {
    width: 120px;
    -->
    </style>
    You'll also need to change this -
    <div class="test">
    <html xmlns="
    http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">
    to this -
    <html xmlns="
    http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">
    and this -

  • What's wrong with my div tag / site won't center....

    Hi,
    I am re-designing a website and I cannot get it to center.  I created a div tag and id it "wrapper" and created a css rule.  I am sure its a simple mistake, but I cannot figure it out.....
    Here is the CSS rules...
    @charset "UTF-8";
    /* CSS Document */
    div, h1, h2, h3, h4, h5, h6, p, pre, address, blockquote, span, ul, ol, li, dl, dd, dt, ing {
              margin: 0px;
              padding: 0px;
    #wrapper{
              margin: 0, auto;
              background-color: #9B9E6B;
    ul {
              list-style: none;
    table#content1{
              background-color: #00C;
              background-image: url(_images/content_bgrnd.png);
              background-repeat: no-repeat;
              font-family: "Arial Black", Gadget, sans-serif;
              font-size: 20px;
              text-align: center;
              padding: 8px;
    Here is the code for the site......

    If you want to position 2 divs - one on left and other on right, the float for your left div should say float: left; and for the one on the right the CSS should say float:right;
    In your code, I see you want imagewrapper to come on right and textbox to come on left. But your float for BOTH these say right. This is where the issue lies.
    You can combine float:left and float:right to achieve side by side divs provided the overall width (container width+padding+margin) of both divs is less than or equal to the width of the wrapper div.
    In the OP's example:
    #wrapper = 1064+0+0 = 1064px
    #textbox + #imagewrapper = 600+70+280+720 = 1670px = float drop

    Because IE 6 is 5+ years old and hasn't been updated in a long while and the only reason it's still kicking in somewhat decent numbers is because some large companys utilized IE-only type features for internal applications and intranets and thus forced Microsoft to conitnue to support it beyond the original end-of-support date. :-)
    By the way, potentially you could just give IE 6 a really bare-bones layout - but you'll need to make sure that that's acceptable for the project. Also it's good for your sanity if you stop trying to make the site look exactly the same in every browser. It's much easier to make it look "good enough" and make sure that the content is accessible and the site usable.

  • Why aren't my CSS and div tag boxes displaying the background images I'm plugging in?

    I'm using the CSS dialog boxes to places images via the background image option into my dreamweaver site. Everything looks fine in dreamweaver but when I view it any of the browsers, two of the images I've place as div tag background images don't work....the overal background image of the site works, but these don't show up ....

    Your image files are pointing to your hard drive, not your server.  You have this
    background-image: url(file:///Macintosh%20HD/Users/jimmymoreira/Unnamed%20Site%204/imag es/opaqueMaincontent.png);
    and you should have this
    background-image: url(imag es/opaqueMaincontent.png);
    Also, is your images file named imag es?

  • Trying to make sense of div tags and css

    i know that i am a few years late here, but i am looking ot make the migration from using tables and switching over to div tags and css. i have watched a few tutorials on you tube and am trying to understand everything.
    please tell me if this is correct.  a div tag is basically a table and css is what is used to style that div tag to meet your needs, is this a correct assumption??
    if you go to my current site www.tankinz.com you can clearly see that the site is made up of tables, basically these boxes or tables contain a different item or package that a customer can click on and buy.  by using div tags and css would each of these boxes, or tables be their own div?
    sorry for sounding a bit moronic but i am trying to make sense of all of this.
    please help!

    Markup (html) contains elements, such as html, body, h1, h2, p, span, div and so forth. Hence a <div>-tag is part of an element; the other part being the </div>-tag.
    The element structure of many web sites is basically (using HTML5 element names)
    html
         head
         body
              header
              nav
              aside
              article
              footer
    These elements can be positioned and styled using style rules (css). Depending on the style rules, the above structure can take on many different styles, without ever touching the markup.
    Have a look here for a simple two-column layout using the same structure as above http://www.456bereastreet.com/lab/developing_with_web_standards/csslayout/2-col/

  • Removing Line between Div tags

    Hi all.  I am new to this forum - have just started using DIV Tags and am getting a bit messed up!!  I have a simple web page that has 2 DIV statements - on loads a menu bar I have created in Fireworks and is rihgt justified, the other is a header that contains an image and is centred.  I have specified a coloured page background.  Trouble is, I have a line between my two div tags that shows the background colour!  I just cant get rid of it - I have tried the "Display - Inline" but that doesn't work.  I have tried "Float Left" and "Right" - no-good.  I dont know what to do!  It could be that I am using these commands in the wrong place?  There seems to be quite a lot of stuff on the net about this issue but I cant get any of the solutions to work for me.  Please can anyone help?
    Here is an example of my code:
    <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
    <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">
    <head>
    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" />
    <title>Untitled Document</title>
    <style type="text/css">
    body {
    background-color: #C90;
    .menu {
    BACKGROUND: #000000;
    .header {
    BACKGROUND: #000000;
    </style>
    </head>
    <body>
    <DIV class=menu align="right" >
    <P> </P>
    <P> </P>
    </DIV>
    <DIV class=header align= "center">
    <P> </P>
    <P> </P>
    <P> </P>
    </DIV>
    </body>
    </html>

    This is invalid markup.
         <DIV class=menu align="right" >
         </DIV>
         <DIV class=header align= "center">
         </DIV>
    CSS should look like this:
    body {
    margin:0;
    padding:0;
    background: #C90;
    color: #000;
    #wrapper {
    width: 970px; /**some value in px, % or ems**/
    margin: 0 auto; /**with width, this centers page**/
    background: #FFF;
    border: 2px solid #000;
    #menu {
    background: #000;
    text-align:right;
    margin:0;
    padding:0;
    #header {
    background: #000;
    width: 970px;
    margin:0 auto;
    padding:0;
    Then add the relevant selector ID (or .class) to your markup like so.
    <body>
    <div id="wrapper>
    <div id="menu">
    your menu code here
    </div>
    <div id="header">
    your header here
    </div>
    <p>your content goes here<p>
    <!--end wrapper--> </div>
    </body>

  • Div tags - I'm totally confused

    I just finished a website that employed AP divs...and was
    heartily chastised for doing so. So, I'm attempting to create
    another site that employs div tags.
    I created a new site and began working on the design. Banner
    at the top (jpg image in a div tag - 760 px wide, no float, no
    clear), left sidebar (jpg in a div tag - 154 px wide, no float, no
    clear), attempted to create another div tag (right sidebar) but I
    can't get the div tag to hug the right margin of the page at the
    same height as the left tag. It keeps appearing below the left
    sidebar div tag....I have no clue how to get the div tag to appear
    on the right side of the page.....assistance would be greatly
    appreciated. (I have lots of other questions, but if I can get past
    this issue, I MAY be able to work those out myself).
    David Bird

    Well, because #leftsidebar is a block tag, and because you
    have not
    controlled its width, it occupies the full width of its
    container, so there
    is no room to the right for anything. And by the way, why so
    many rules for
    #leftsidebar img? Also, you have misformed the selector for
    #rightsidebar.
    Anyhow, this may be what you are after - not sure, though....

  • AP Div tag's absolute postioning not working

    I have been trying to figure this problem out for about 2 hours and I have nothing. Div tags 98-101 are positioned in the right place when I'm looking at my page in Dreamweaver. But when I preview the page, those 4 div tags are not where they're supposed to be (they're in the bottom right of the page, hundreds of pixels from where they're supposed to be). Any ideas?
    Here's the code if it will help. Sorry its really long.

    Div tags 98-101 are positioned in the right place when I'm looking at my page in Dreamweaver. But when I preview the page, those 4 div tags are not where they're supposed to be
    I thought I was reading it wrong, but you really do have 101 AP divs on the page. I don't have the time to go through your code, but using absolutely positioned divs as the sole basis for page layout is likely to lead to massive problems. AP divs (or layers, as they used to be called) were all the rage several years ago, because people wrongly thought they would make web pages work like desktop publishing. I used them, too, until I realized they caused massive problems.
    It won't solve your current problem, I'm afraid, but I recommend that you take a look at the following page, which describes some of the problems with AP div/layers: http://apptools.com/examples/pagelayout101.php.
