Flow Cover not resizing correctly?

Hiya all,
Hoping someone can help with my problem. Ive tried searching around the threads, but I couldn't find anything. Apologise if this has already been answered, I am a newb, so please don't kill me just yet.
I too very recently upgraded to S/L and in Cover flow, I cant seem to be able to adjust the window size. The preview pane covers all my folders. I re-size the window so that I can see most of my folders, but the second finder is closed and re-opened, it seems to default back to the HUGE preview pane. Any ideas?

Den,
You are not alone; this is a confirmed bug at least on the three generations of iMacs we used to test. I have an open Case with Apple's engineers and they, too, were able to reproduce the problem.
Here's a poor work-around until this issue is fixed. It appears that the cover flow preview window only "remembers" a resizing request if the preview window is quite small. If you shrink it down to about 25% of the available screen it should stick.
In short, until the bug is squashed you really have two choices. Cover flow with a maxed out preview pane and Cover flow with a very small preview pane.
pax,
rwr
p.s. I'm not sure if you can edit a subject line after the fact, but if you can you might want to change yours from "Flow Cover..." to "Cover Flow..."

• Components will not resize correctly in Catalyst

I am completely new to Flash Catalyst (any and all versions). I am currently using Photoshop CS5.5 to design and Catalyst 5.5 to import and translate into a flash project. I recently picked up a job creating an interactive application for a college campus. I have attached my two project files for anyone who can help to view to see what is wrong. I have also attached inline screenies for those who cannot/will not download.
Here is my problem: I created the attached PSD in Photoshop with what I thought were the correct layers and groups/folders. I am hoping to achieve the following effect: when a user rolls over the purple buttons, multiple similar copies of that button that are initially hidden beneath the visible one popup in sequence above the rolled over purple button.
Ex. State 1:
Animation/Action Sequence to the following:
The purple popup objects will have their own text content and will be buttons themselves that a user clicks to change to a different state with more specific information.
Not only am I unsure of how to create such animation/action sequence, my purple components (whether I actually convert them to components in Catalyst or not) will not resize correctly. NOTE: I did click the resizable option when importing the PSD into Catalyst. The following effect occurs both ways. I add constraints to all objects by selecting all, right clicking, and choosing add constraints to all; the following occurs when stretched inwards using the resize test handle:
and this when stretched out:
When viewed using CTRL+Enter, the application is nowhere near resized in the browser window. I must be missing something, especially being new to Catalyst. I tried flattening the image in Photoshop, which obviously allowed the image to be easily resizable in Catalyst and the test browser window. However, I cannot use my separate elements when flattened; flattening defeats the purpose of Catalyst if I'm not mistaken.
Any guidance?

Hi Martin - Those are really good questions! I did check and the image is uploaded. I assume I can see the image in my one browser because of the cache since I could not see it on several computers that I had never pulled the site up on before.
And actually I have it working now. Nancy had a good idea to check to see if I saved it as CMYK instead of RGB. When I went to go open the file on my computer Photoshop and Fireworks had an error in opening it. They had a problem opening the one I downloaded from the ftp too. It just looks like somehow the file became corrupted! Not sure how, but that seems like what the problem was since I have a new image up there now and it's working fine again.
Thanks for all your help!

• Group not resizing correctly when contents are moved programmatically

Hi there,
My apologies in advance if this is a known issue. I searched the forums but I was unable to find a discussion about this topic. The issue we are running into is when we programmatically move the contents of a Group which is in turn enclosed within a Scroller beyond the Scroller's limits the position of the Group within the stage is incorrectly calculated. This will cause mouseEvents in the area beyond the Group's limits to be "ignored" among other problems.
I have created an application to illustrate the problem, we are in 4.1:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<s:Application
minWidth="955" minHeight="600"
xmlns:fx="http://ns.adobe.com/mxml/2009"
xmlns:s="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/spark"
xmlns:mx="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/mx">
<fx:Declarations>
<!-- Place non-visual elements (e.g., services, value objects) here -->
</fx:Declarations>
<fx:Script>
<![CDATA[
import mx.controls.Alert;
private function onGroupClick(event:MouseEvent):void
Alert.show("It works");
private function onButtonClick(event:MouseEvent):void
rect.x += 500;
rect.y += 500;
]]>
</fx:Script>
<s:Scroller
width="100%" height="100%">
<s:Group id="myGroup"
width="100%" height="100%"
click="onGroupClick(event)">
<s:Rect id="rect"
x="0" y="0" width="10" height="10"/>
</s:Group>
</s:Scroller>
<s:Button
label="Move Rectangle"
click="onButtonClick(event)"/>
</s:Application>
Steps to reproduce:
Click anywhere in the screen - notice that an alert that reads "It works" shows up.
Click on the "Move Rectangle" button enough times for the coordinates of the Rectangle to exceed the limits of the Scroller, hence producing scroll bars.
Scroll all the way to the right and to the bottom.
Click right next to the right bottom corner - notice that no alert is displayed. The reason is the Group has not resized correctly hence we are actually clicking outside the Group. Resizing your browser window for example will cause the Group to resize and events will again "work". FlexSpy will make things pretty apparent as well.
Any pointers regarding where this bug lives in the source code or suggestions on how to fix this would be greatly appreciated, this issue is causing us a lot of pain.
Thanks in advance!!
~ TheMadPenguin

Thanks for logging this in the bugbase: https://bugs.adobe.com/jira/browse/SDK-29112. The latest comments there say:
Reproduced in 4.0.0, 4.1.0
Confirmed fixed in 4.5.0.19764
A workaround for the 4.0.0 and 4.1.0 release would be to put the click handler on the Scroller instead of the viewport.
Note: This bug seems to be fixed, but the fact that the width/height of the Group doesn't change is still consistent (and correct). Group has a concept of size and content size, scrolling is enabled when the content size is larger than the size (with Group.clipAndEnableScrolling set to true which Scroller sets automatically).
See this spec for more details: http://opensource.adobe.com/wiki/display/flexsdk/Spark+Viewport
Hans has a good article here: http://hansmuller-flex.blogspot.com/
Here's a simple example that demonstrates width does not change:
<s:Application xmlns:fx="http://ns.adobe.com/mxml/2009" xmlns:s="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/spark">
<s:Scroller width="100" height="100">
<s:Group id="viewport">
<s:Rect width="100%" height="100%">
<s:fill><s:SolidColor color="red" /></s:fill>
</s:Rect>
<s:Button id="btn" label="out of view" y="150" click="btn.y += 50" />
</s:Group>
</s:Scroller>
</s:Application>
You might expect that this example should have a red background behind the Button, but it does not. That is because width/height of 100% on the Rect is 100% of the width/height of the viewport, not the contentWidth/contentHeight.
One way of getting the behavior where the Rect expands across the whole content size would be to bind to contentHeight:
<s:Application xmlns:fx="http://ns.adobe.com/mxml/2009" xmlns:s="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/spark">
<s:Scroller width="100" height="100">
<s:Group id="viewport">
<s:Rect width="100%" height="{viewport.contentHeight}">
<s:fill><s:SolidColor color="red" /></s:fill>
</s:Rect>
<s:Button id="btn" label="out of view" y="150" click="btn.y += 50" />
</s:Group>
</s:Scroller>
</s:Application>
Note: You shouldn't specify or change the size of the viewport Group inside of a Scroller. The Scroller component manages the size of the Group in a specific way and if the Group has a size that conflicts with that then you can get into a bad situation that might cause infinite loops. Notice in my example the viewport Group has no size set on it.
Thanks to SDK QE for the info!

• I have a problem with a table not resizing correctly in some browsers

Hi,
I am using the fluid grid layout in DW. I have created a table to hold some images and text. I have the table set to 100% instead of a fixed width.
The table and images resize correctly at my smartphone breakpoint in DW and Crome. They do not resize correctly in IE10 or Firefox.
I hope somebody can point out the error of my ways.
Thanks
http://cupcakemary.skeeterz71.com/_cm_mockup/menu.html

Tables do not work well in Fluid Grid Layouts because table width is always going to be determined by combined width of the content inside it. As such it won't re-scale past a certain point no matter what you do. I typically avoid using tables for layouts anyway. But especially in FluidGrids.
If you build your FluidGrid layout correctly from the start, there's little reason to use tables.
LayoutDiv 1                 LayoutDiv 2                      LayoutDiv 3
float:left                        float:left                            float:left
On smaller displays, these divs will naturally stack vertically.

• JApplet does not resize correctly

Hello,
I'm trying to practice with JLayeredPane in JApplet.
The problem is that when i resize the applet JButton b3 is painted "as a background", and still works as a JButton.
Why doesn't it resize correctly as the other JComponent do?

add(b3);
}If i use the init() method instead of the paint(Graphics g) method JButton b3 is painted as large as possible since the beginning.
thanx in advance :)

Swing related questions should be posted in the Swing forum.
If i use the init() method instead of the paint(Graphics g) methodWell, thats the proper way to write a Swing applet. The code for building the GUI should be in the init() method. You never need to override the paint() method of the JApplet.
Components will not be automatically resized when the size of the applet changes. A layered pane does not use a layout manager, therefore it is up to you to manually change the size of each component. You can add a ComponentListener to the applet to be notified when the size changes.

• Mouse over images not resizing correctly in Safari

I have a series of thumbnail images of different sizes that, by using MouseOver, cause a larger image to appear. Safari only seems to resize "larger" and doesn't resize "smaller" resulting in distorted images. This site works fine in every other browser I can lay my hands on. I have managed to get a similar site to work fine but I don't really see the difference between the two. Any ideas on what I need to do? Site that doesn't work www.IllustriousPlay.com/test/Portfolio.html Site that does work www.IllustriousPlay.com/Page1.html Run your mouse over the various images. (Be warned I'm tinkering with the site, so it may have other things wrong with it.)

Kowhai,
Welcome to Apple Discussions.
I see the distortions.

• Label not resizing

When I do setText on a Label which I created empty it does not resize correctly so the whole text is not visible. What more should I do to make it resize? myLabel.invalidate() dos nothing to it.
The Label is added to a Pane which is in its turn added to another Pane which is added to an applet. Thanks for any help!

I think you should invalidate or validate the Container containing the Label.I do that:
Container lParent = pComponent.getParent();
lParent.invalidate();
lParent.validate();
It also depends on which LayoutManager you are using and how big that Container is.Take a look at the result here: http://apollo.nu/~ben/sunlabel.jpg
1. The blue is a panel with borderlayout.
2. The red and green are two panels with GridLayout(10, 1)
which are added to the blue panel using:
add(BorderLayout.WEST, mLabelPanel);
add(BorderLayout.CENTER, mControlPanel);
3. The smaller panels with labels are using FlowLayout(FlowLayout.LEFT)
and added to the red and green panel using:
add(lPanel)
In any case it is the LayoutManager of the parent Container that >decides how much space the Label gets, however most LayoutManager will >ask the getPreferredSize() of the Label, which is the space needed to >show it's entire text in it's current font. java.awt.DimensionCould there be a bug in getPreferredSize() for Label in 1.1.8?
I tried the same with an empty Button for which I set the text later and for that it DOES work using getPreferredSize(), it gets the correct size with either that or my calculation.
I get the following result for getPreferredSize():
java.awt.Dimension[width=14,height=23]
using my own calculation:
FontMetrics lFontMetrics = getFontMetrics(pComponent.getFont());
Dimension lStringSize = new Dimension(lFontMetrics.stringWidth(pText), lFontMetrics.getHeight());
I get this result:
java.awt.Dimension[width=21,height=15]
See the marks in the image for 14 and 21. getPreferredSize() obviously gives too little space. The label should say "frn" and not "fr".
Thanks for your time!

• Finder is not showing correct file in cover flow mode. The files shown in the top panel are one file off.

finder is not showing correct file in cover flow mode. The files shown in the top panel are one file off.

This problem occurs after I move a file or files to trash. If I remove one file, then the sequence is one file off, if I move two files to trash then the sequence istwo file off. For example, if I delete file 1 and highlight (click on) file 3, then the cover flow panel shows file 2, when it should show file 3.

• Cover flow is not displaying greatest hits albums correctly.

Cover flow is not displaying greatest hits albums correctly.
To reproduce this, I have deleted all of my music out of itunes and sync'ed to my ipod - (160gb classic). At this point it is empty. Then I have loaded three greatest hits cds into itunes. (From mp3s that I have encoded). All are tagged with:
- Name of track
- Album Artist
- Artist
- Album Name
- Track #
- Compilation flag is off
- all tracks have the correct artwork
Each of the albums have the same name = Greatest Hits.
The artist name and album artist is different for each of the three albums.
itunes shows each of the three albums seperately.
When I sync to the ipod, coverflow on the ipod shows only one album cover. (The cover of the first artist alphabetically.) All of the songs from all of the albums
Music->Artists lists the three artists correctly.
Music->Albums lists one album (incorrectly) and All songs (45 songs)
Setting sort-album to a unique value for each album e.g. Artist 1-GH, Artist 2-GH does not change anything.
Any ideas that don't involve changing the names of the albums slightly by capitalisation or adding spaces or adding the artist's name?
Thanks

Nope. See my post on Grouping Tracks Into Albums for a run down of the various issues. Short of waiting for a firmware fix you'll have to use one workaround or another. My preference is *Album - Album Artist* as this clearly shows which album is which when scanning for albums in the three panel browser.

• Sales Document Flow - Ref. Value not showing correct currency

I have a question about document flow currency in ECC6.0. We recented upgraded to ECC6.0 from 4.7 and noticed the changes to document flow. We are a US based company with sales offices in Europe. Our European offices are finding that that document flow in ECC6.0 shows in base currency of USD. Even thought the sales order was entered in EUR euros. Is this intended to be this way; since it is causing our offices in Europe some confusion? I searched forums an SAP notes and did not find any references. Has anyone see this in ECC6.0
Example Document Flow: Line Level (I do not see Ref Value at header level)
Note Sales Document was entered in EUR euros.
Document Quantity Unit Ref. Value Currency
Standard Order 0025082768 / 10     12 EA     5,207.54 USD

0025082768     10          12     EA     3,847.80     EUR

Smile,
Thanks for pointing those configuration points out. I checked my system and found the following. I do not see any change documents for the configuration points, so they have been set this way since our implemenation in 2005.
XD02 is customer master change, the customer on my order is set to EUR in sales in distribution tabs.
OX02 - Company Code

2100     Munich     EUR...ok
2210     Amsterdam     EUR...ok
4000     Hong Kong     USD...ok
I think OVX5 is not set correctly, should be same as OX02. If I change them, do I need to run an update in the system for old data? Or is it as simple as changing the value here? I'm hesitant to change this not knowing how this will affect the system. Do you know?

• 1st Gen iPod touch not working correctly?

I have a 1st generation 8GB iPod Touch. It's not working correctly.
My biggest problem is that, unexplaiably, certain areas of the screen don't seem to register touch anymore. There is a sort of "L" shape on the left and bottom edges of the screen that won't register touch, making it impossible to move applications to the previous page on the home screen and making it hard to use the keyboard/buttons while in portrait mode. It's extremely frustrating to try to change the volume while playing a song, as I now have to either put the iPod in sleep mode then double tap the home button or flip it to cover flow and double tap the home button to do it.
http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e140/Vipershark/IMG_0001.png
(Highlight the image to see it better.)
This is a screenshot of the working/non-working areas that I made using the Whiteboard application. The white area that you see (excluding the little half circles of black which are extended brush strokes and not actually working areas) is the area that doesn't work. I can't seem to figure out why it happened, as I've never dropped or otherwise damaged it. It just happened one day, and I don't know why.
But I can't fix it. I've tried everything. Upgrading (I'm now running iPhone OS 3.0 which still didn't fix the problem.) didn't work, restoring didn't work, deleting everything and restoring from factory settings didn't work.
I'm also having a few other problems as well, though they're not as bad. My home button seems to stop working sometimes and sometimes the entire screen witll stop registering touch until I put the iPod to sleep and turn it back on. It also seems to go a lot slower than usual.
My iPod is less than a year old. Can you help?

Vipershark,
I had a very similar problem this past weekend with my 1G 8GB iPod touch. But with me, just the left side of the screen wasn't registering my touch. I could still access the bottom section, which you cannot.
The good news for me is that I fixed it and I hope it works for you as well. What fixed it for me was resetting all my settings. To do this, go to the settings icon, then click on general, and then on the very bottom is reset. Choose "reset all settings."
Apparently this is different than a restore through iTunes, which you tried. I also tried that earlier and it did not help.
Of course, the reset solution I used relies on you being able to access all of the correct buttons, so I hope you can!

Try this without the border images and it will work in all browsers with increased text size. That's assuming eBay supports embedded CSS styles (which I'm not convinced they do). Inline styles are safer IMHO.

• Covers not resizing for thumbnail view

Hi,
How/when/where does the thumbnail png file for ADE get created? I have some epubs ebooks that are not displaying correctly. Instead of the cover being resized for the thumbnail, it is being cropped. On other books, however, it works fine. I can't see the difference in the actual html of the ebook. I did verify that it is the actual png file in the ADE thumbnails folder that is incorrect.
Help?

Not a problem with it sounding snippy. The key bit for you situation is was that it was rendering it at the thumbnail size (90x130, iirc), and as you found out it if your HTML was making some bad assumptions (usually in the size attributes for the image element) that it would be rendering in a larger viewport, that would be causing the cropping.
What I didn't know is if it was your authored content or not, because if it wasn't then the easier fix is to just replace the thumbnail image in the DE Thumbnails Directory.

• Why is my embedded form not displaying correctly?

Form will not resize on my webpage?

Hi,
If you right-click in the Page Footer margin and go to Section Expert, are there any conditional formatting formulas set? Any options that have been changed from the default?
If you right-click one of the fields in the Page Footer and go to Format. In the Common tab, does the Suppress option have a formula?
The Page Footer should be seen from the Cover Page unless it's been told to suppress somewhere.
Good luck,
Brian
