Fluxbox broken when launched via qingy

Not sure what's going on, but for some reason out of the blue fluxbox no longer works properly when launched by qingy.  FB launches, but seems to only partially start up.  The desktop background is black, instead of showing my wallpaper, and although I can right-click on the desktop to bring up a menu, when I click on anything in the menu (e.g., aterm) it never gets launched.
This isn't a fluxbox-specific issue, as I'm able to launch FB fine from a different desktop manager (slim).  And it isn't a qingy-specific issue, as I'm able to launch other WM's just fine from qingy (e.g., icewm, fvwm crystal, etc.)
What's odd is that this combination of qingy/fluxbox was working fine up until recently, and I haven't changed anything in my qingy configuration in ages.  I just haven't used this combo in a while, and now when I come back to it it somehow got broken (by some unrelated package upgrade, I'm guessing).
My qingy fluxbox launch script reads as follows, btw:
[darose@daroselin ~]$ cat /etc/qingy/xsessions/fluxbox
#!/bin/dash
. /etc/profile
/usr/bin/startfluxbox
Anyone have any idea what might have broken this and/or how to fix?
TIA!

Well, I got hit by this again when I updated world on my Gentoo desktop, so I guess it was time I finished investigating this.  Unfortunately that update included a whole bunch of X libraries, so tracking this down further to a specific package doesn't sound very fun.  But at least I figured out the cause of the weirdness and a workaround.
For some reason, Fb is trying to execute programs on the :0 display, but the X server uses the :1 display.  I know of two workarounds, but I haven't bothered to determine how either might effect the use of other login or window managers.
1. Tell Fb to use the correct display.  The last command in the $HOME/.fluxbox/startup file should execute fluxbox.  Change this to something like:
exec fluxbox -display :1.0
OR
2. Tell Qingy to use the correct display.  In Qingy's configuration file at /etc/qingy/settings, set this option:
x_server_offset = 0
Enjoy.

  • Referencing the script folder when launching via LNK

I have been using ".\ blah blah" to reference files stored in the same folder as the script, but I ran into a situation where this actually referenced the user's home folder, not the script folder. I then found this code, which has worked well
when launching the script directly, but when the script is launched via a shortcut it fails.
Is there a modification that can be done to this code, or another option, that will consistently identify the UNC path of the running script?
    Thanks,
    Gordon
    function Get-ScriptDirectory {
    $Invocation = (Get-Variable MyInvocation -Scope 1).Value
    if($Invocation.PSScriptRoot) {
    $Invocation.PSScriptRoot
    elseif($Invocation.MyCommand.Path) {
    Split-Path $Invocation.MyCommand.Path
    else {
    $Invocation.InvocationName.Substring(0,$Invocation.InvocationName.LastIndexOf("\"))

Interesting.  So it's not even using MyCommand.Path; it's dropping down into that last case (which I assume was written to cover PowerShell 1.0, but I'm not certain.)
Try adding this command to the function, for debugging purposes, right after the "$Invocation = ..." line:
    $Invocation |
    Format-Custom -Depth 3 -Property * -Force |
    Out-Host
That should give you a bunch of information that you can copy and paste here, so we can figure out what's going on.
Edit:  One other thing; is this Get-ScriptDirectory function in the ps1 script itself, or is it in a PSM1 module?

  • How to specify -preview when launching via AppleScript

I have an InDesign Server CS5.5.I have a shell script that waits for xml files to be placed into a certain directory on the server. When it sees a file in the folder it launches an applescript that controls InDesign Server. I need to know how to specify the -preview option for the InDesign Server binary so the files generated by the server will have previews when they are opened in InDesign client. The apple scripts look like this:
    tell application "InDesign Server"
         -- do some stuff
    end tell
Where/how would I specify the -preview option. I see nothing referring to the -preview option in the Library for indesign.

There's two ways to set it:
    1) in command line when you launch the executable, there's a preview option. I don't remember off hand the exact syntax.
    2) In the script itself (using Javascript syntax -- Applescript would be similar) app.serverSettings.imagePreview = true;

  • Applications not reporting when launched via Midtier

The specified log file is not updated when deploying application objects
to Windows 2000 machines with the ZFDsp2 agent via our Zen midtier. The
same application object will update the log when run on a machine with
the Novell client. The log is written to a Novell share with public
permissions. The midtier service is running on a Windows 2003 server.
Any ideas on what I might be missing?

Thanks for the suggestions. I tried logging to the Zen database and had
the same result. The log updates when the object snapshot is run on a
workstation with the Novell client, but will not update when run on a
machine that just has the ZFD agent.
Surely there is a way to log snapshots without the Novell client, right?

  • GPU acceleration not working when launched via document?

When I open Illustrator alone, then open a file, I get GPU acceleration. (good)
When I open Illustrator by double-clicking a file, I don't get acceleration. (bad)
I'm happy that the latest update made GPU work when I have multiple monitors plugged in but there's still this little bug. One that I can work around but still, not something I imagine makers of the lofty CC should be plagued with.
I'm seeing this behavior in Illustrator 18.1.1 64bit on Windows 8.1.

  • FRM-41213 : Error raised by a form when launching report on the same server

    Hello !
I get this error FRM-41213 when launching a report via rp2rro.rp2rro_run_product.
I don't want to set the report server in a var or property into a library or a form cause my app is to be sent to customers who will not have the sources files.
This app is a migration from an app 10g to 11g.
In 10g whe hadn't to set the ReportServerURL ... But in 11g it can't be ok if we don't set the server URL (with the URL it's ok)
The 11g Report server is running on port 9002, and the form server on port 9001 on the same machine. But the two server are accessible by an ohs on port 8888.
    What the f**k ?
    :)

    Hi
I don't run my reports using rp2rro.rp2rro_run_product but in both 10g and in 11g have always needed to specify the name of the report server.
We have used different methods for different clients/customers. At times we have stored this name in a table in the application, other times in a pre-defined file on the server which we read using text_io.

  • MMC finds error with a snap-in when launching Hyper-V manager

From a clean install of Win 8.1 Pro 64-bit I had used the Hyper-V manager to test some virtualization.  After tinkering around with a few virtual machines I put that aside for a while.  Over the following weeks I continued applying updates as
Microsoft released them.  Decided to play around with virtual machines again and when launching the manager I got the error "MMC has detected an error in a snap-in and will unload it."  Options are to report the error to Microsoft and shut
down MMC, or unload the snap-in and continue running.  If I report the error it goes into the problem reports but as of yet there is no solution available.  If I unload the snap-in and continue running I get this additional output:

I tried restoring one of my earlier drive images and got Hyper-V manager working again.  Unfortunately continuing to run with this image wasn't feasible as I've had too many changes in the install to apply all over again, my solution needs to be repairing
my image as it exists at the time I discovered Hyper-V was broken.  The older image was useful though to use to see just what causes the break.  From that restore I stepped through Windows Updates one by one, eventually finding that the fix for KB2898871,
"Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5.1 for Windows 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 R2 for x64-based Systems" was what seemed to trigger it.  Uninstalling this update on my current image does not resolve the issue.  Somehow something
is hanging around that is the root cause of the problem.  An additional odd thing with this is that this KB update is marked as February 2014, yet going back through my disk images I found that the problem had existed as early as December 2013, possibly
the month before.  If .NET updates are cumulative then that would make sense as an earlier update that is now included in KB2898871 could have been applied before, but I don't know if the updates are designed that way.  I have yet to find any information
online directly relating to this problem and those that are somewhat similar haven't produced any working fix.  Looking for any thoughts on this while I hope that the problem report uploaded to Microsoft is being worked on.

Ok, now I'm stumped.  I restored the first image I captured of my 8.1 install (11/14/2013, looks like with all available updates at that time) and started applying updates.  After this I could still launch Hyper-V without error.  Now, this
image was before I had created any virtual machines and at this point I still haven't added any to my test image, but Hyper-V does launch.
So my suspicion is now moving to something about maybe the information of the VMs I had previously created in Hyper-V aren't playing well with the later .net update.  Haven't gone digging for this yet but with this new finding does anyone have any areas
they think I should examine?  The first place I'm going to look is the registry and see what I can find for differences there.

  • Error when launching .rdp file from RDWebAccess with RD Gateway "NtlmWebAuthException: 2" on Mac Version 8.0.8 (Build 25010)

When launching a .rdp file that has been download from an rdwebaccess session, the following error is generated "NtlmWebAuthException: 2". I have tested this on the Mac Microsoft Remote Desktop client version  8.0.8 (Build 25010).
The following is the use case:
Download the .RDP file for a published app "notepad.exe", on rdwebaccess (2012R2), accessed through the gateway (2012R2) VIA the connection broker (2012R2) on a RDSH server (2012R2). NLA is enabled everywhere.
This same setup works on Windows using the Remote Desktop Connection client.
I found that if you edit the .rdp file and add the following line (no quotes):
    "username:s: "
Then the user is prompted for credentials. You may also set it to be "username:s:domain\username".
This issue here appears that the Mac client is either ignoring the "prompt for credentials on client:i:1" setting, or it is passing blank credentials... or both.
I appreciate all the work the MS team (and iTap) have done on this product... keep up the great work.

    Hi,
I too have this problem but I am unsure of how you fo about adding the "username:s:domain\username"
into the file as it is downloaded via the RD Web Access page.
I know that I can edit the RDP file after the event and then send it to my users but I don't want the
    hassle of doing this,
The weird thing is that ver 8.0.8 release notes say that there is a "Fix for the issues of starting remote connection from RDP files that included gateway information"
    Anybody have any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Jaggie

"iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience" - and then wants to send an error report off to Microsoft
I have so far been through the bulletins and - deleted high and low filters using regedit , disabled virtual drives (which bought me CD drive back to life hurrah), reinstalled several times both Quick Time and I Tunes (seperately and together) including using Windows Install Clean up and the methodical Uninstalling and full deletion of Files - HELP - any ideas !! - forgot also disabled Norton through these steps

Try this, it took me 5 days but I eventually got it to work.
    1. Scanned my hard drive for viruses. 1 was found & fixed, Spybot search and destroy, this is a freebee of the internet. Reboot PC
    2. Removed all software having to do with quick

    3. Downloaded Quick player via the stand alone, you can get this from http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/standalone.html. Reboot PC

Then when you are asked to update say no. Reboot PC
    This should then work.

  • Javascript error when launching XFA pdf from browser

    Hi all,
I am trying to use my XFA PDF from a browser. On my local system I have  set up a web server and am launching my PDF from there. However, I am getting a ReferenceError with regards to one of my Javascript functions.
My PDF has dependency on a javascript file that resides in the Acrobat path as follows:
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 9.0\Acrobat\Javascripts\
When I use my PDF directly from an Acrobat instance, everything works fine. The issue comes up only when launching from server. How do I link the javascript file to my PDF?
Edit: The user is going to be launching the PDF from the server via a web browser. In such a case where do I place the javascripts?
    Help appreciated,
    Thanks

@George: thanks for the quick response!
My JS code contains a readFileIntoStream which I learnt is also to be run under privileged context. (still learning the ropes here.. ).  I have been trying to incorporate the JS code directly into the PDF to get around this privileged context..  but I am unable to find a non-privileged equivalent for readFileIntoStream..
Basically my users would be accessing the PDF from the server direct via the browser. For my testing purposes I am able to run the PDF directly from my desktop via an Acrobat instance without any hitch as the scripts are folder level like you mentioned. Is it possible for the users to be able to access the javascripts from anywhere on the server rather than directly from the PDF?  Please note, users will not be saving copies of the PDF on to their local machines (in which case we could have pushed the JS file along to their machines) . I need to ultimately run the PDF from browser.
    I hope I am clear..
    Thanks.

  • Warning message when launching iTunes

I upgraded to iTunes8 and on launching iTunes, the following error message appears "The registry settings used by the iTunes drivers for importing and burning CD's and DVD's are missing. This can happen as a result of other CD burning software. Please reinstall iTunes." I then reinstalled the "Repair" from the downloaded file (iTunes8Setup), but the warning message still appears after rebooting my computer and launching iTunes . I then removed iTunes from my computer and reinstalled iTunes from this download (iTunes8Setup). I rebooted my computer and launched iTunes, same result. Any ideas on how I can fix this warning message. Please note this warning message did not appear when launching my previous version of iTunes.

Because the .desktop file is part of the upstream source, it's always created as part of the build procedure.
I did not mean "what is the direct cause of the icon". I meant "why did the maintainers choose to include the icon when there is no GUI application to link it to" (see below).
I don't see why there is an issue with these optional dependencies at all, the deluge wiki page is perfectly clear on the subject.
The issue is that a broken `.desktop` file is being added. The fact of the matter is that if both Deluge and some window manager have been installed, `pygtk` should become a mandatory dependency. Unfortunately, pacman is not capable of that kind of reasoning.
See an earlier post of mine for some more general problems I have with the pacman dependency system.

  • [SOLVED] GTK2 apps have wrong theme when launched from desktop entry.

So I'm setting up KDE and I want to use the QtCurve theme for all applications where possible. I have set (via kde-gtk-config) the GTK2 theme to QtCurve and it half works. GTK2 applications are using the QtCurve theme when they are launched via a command, but they are using what appears to be an ugly version of the Oxygen theme when launched from a .desktop file. I previously installed gtk-qt-engine from the AUR, but have since removed it along with it's files, and as I was using the Oxygen theme at the time, this appears to be what has caused the issue. Does anyone know what is causing this and how to fix it?
EDIT: Solved by removing ~/.themes folder (obviously only remove the KDE-QT theme if there are other themes in the folder).

Thanks, but lxappearance made things rather worse.
A friend of mine had told me to put "gtk-toolbar-style=GTK_TOOLBAR_ICONS" into settings.ini and my problem is solved now.
