FM12 maker.ini -- XmlUtilities client

Hello fellows,
Does anyone know what the following structured FM12 client does and what the configuration options are?
XmlUtilities=Standard, Utilities for XML, fminit\xmlutils.dll, structured
The FM12 INI Reference Guide does not explain anything about this (and many other) clients. The documentation is superficial.
We had a problem with running Saxon until we commented out the XmlUtilities line in maker.ini.

If I set Xalan as the default XSLT engine, it does not solve the issue. The issue is that when I try to open an XML file in structured FM, I get the following error:
XSLT Processor Messages
org.xml.sax.SAXException: FWK005 parse may not be called while parsing.
javax.xml.transform.TransformerException: org.xml.sax.SAXException: FWK005 parse may not be called while parsing.
javax.xml.transform.TransformerException: org.xml.sax.SAXException: FWK005 parse may not be called while parsing.
Transformation Aborted.
The issue is only "resolved" by commenting out the XmlUtilities option.

How do I make a RMI client running in Bea find a remote, non Bea, RMI server?

On my stand alone test system I run a RMI server in one JVM,
registry.exe and a RMI client in its own JVM. The client uses
java.rmi.Naming.lookup() to find the RMI server, and this works fine.
If I run the same RMI client class within Bea the naming lookup fails! I
guess this is due to Bea using it own RMI registry rather than the
registry.exe I started separately(?)

non-Bea, RMI server?
Of course, in the final environment the server will run on a system
remote from Bea.
The RMI client calls are done from a servlet, not from a EJB.
The doumentation about using RMI with Bea is focused on running the RMI

case Bea is the client, not the server. Do I still need to use
weblogic.rmi.*....? If so, where?

Remapping TrueType Fonts in Framemaker 9.0 maker.ini

Greetings, forum community.
When attempting to embed non-base 14 fonts in PDFs using Pitstop v7.52, I receive a notice that no TrueType version could be located.
I believe (please correct me if I'm wrong) that the solution is to remap the unavailable font (in this case Arial, Bold) to an available font (Helvetica, Bold) in the Framemaker maker.ini file.
My entry in the maker.ini file is as follows:
Arial, Bold, *, *=Helvetica, Bold, *, *, *
Alternately, I could use Arial MT.
Neither, however, seems to work as I've mapped it. Upon generating a PDF, I still receive an error from Pitstop saying it was unable to embed the font.
Can anyone easily see where I may be messing up and offer a solution?

Unfortunately, I'm only vaguely familiar with Pitstop. I used it for a short
time years ago, but remember little about it. But I do recall that it is an
Acrobat plugin and therefore uses Acrobat to produce the PDF. So check your
"PDF presets" (.joboptions settings) in Acrobat Distiller because there is a
dialogue that lets you specify fonts that will never embed. Some of the
default Adobe PDF presets, including (if I remember right) even the Standard
options, have some fonts set in there to never embed (it assumes that
everyone has them on their computer already) and that may include the fonts
you are having problems with. If this is the case, just move the fonts from
the "never embed" column into the "always embed" column to fix your problem.
Then save as a custom PDF preset to use in the future. You can also save the
changes to the current preset, but I seem to recall that Acrobat updates
have recently started resetting some user settings without permission. So
you may find that changes you made have disappeared in the future if you
don't save as a custom preset!

Edit ClipboardFormatsPriorities in maker.ini file

FrameMaker 10 (v. 10.0.2.419), Window 7.
When copying text from Word into FrameMaker, I would like "TEXT" to be the first item in the dialog box when using Paste Special.
We have edited the ClipboardFormatsPriorities in the maker.ini file by moving TEXT from the end to the beginning of the line:
ClipboardFormatsPriorities=TEXT, FILE, MIFW, MIF, RTF, OLE 2, META, EMF, DIB, BMP, UNICODE TEXT
So far, the changes have not taken affect.
Can this be done?

There are two maker.ini files; one system, one (for each) user.
Which did you edit?
I assume the user file has the last word, but don't really know, as this isn't an issue on the old FM I run.
And did you exit and re-start FM?

How to make all "allowed" clients visible at the log on/welcome screen at start of the computer

Assuming this is controlled by the Active Directory Server 2012 R2..
I allow 3 users to be able to log on to computer A.
I now start computer A. At the welcome / start screen I only see the person who was logged on latest.
However, it would be great to see which 3 users actually can log on to that computer, have their user pic and names
on the welcome / start screen instead of the "latest logged on" and then click on the person you are to log on.
How do I configure the Server 2012 R2, or Client computer, so they won't see last person logged on, but simply everyone
who actually is able to log on?

You are not going to be able to do this on a domain computer. You can disable the last logged on user prompt though. This would make the computer prompt for a username at all times. That group policy setting is called: Interactive logon: Do not display
last user name and is available under Computer Configuration\Policies\Windows Settings\Security Settings\Local Policies\Security Options.

What's the easiest way to make a SOAP client request in java?

I need to make a request to a website that provides tv listings. Basically I just need to make a simple SOAP request for the listings and the site provides them in XML format.
What's the easiest way to do this? Do I need to download a package like Axis2 or JAX-WS? These seem kind of overkill for what I want to do, since I don't need to run a server. Is there something in the Java standard libraries that will do this? Is it difficult to just write the code for this my self?

QAdmin won't add second computer unless I make second computer client

In QAdmin, when I go to add a second computer as service node, I get the wheel of misfortune.
However, if I make the second computer controller, I can add the first computer as service node.
I tried booting in safe mode and repairing permissions and resetting QMaster. That did not help.
So, there is something screwed up on my main computer (G4/867 MHz) that is not on the second (g4/800 MHz).
Both have OS 10.4.8.
What might I try nest?

The problem was that the firewall was enabled. I had looked at the check boxes in the sharing/firewall system preferences panel, and other than file sharing which was already selected to be allowed, the other services I guessed wouldn't be used. That was wrong.
Having had dial up since the last century and only in the last two months finally getting DSL service, I was nervous about not having a firewall. I was unaware that the DSL router that the phone company provided already provided firewall protection. Another thing the Apple Tech support person told me was that unless a service in activated, there is no port open to the outside, and thus Apple's software firewall is there just to reassure folks when in fact it is not needed.
When I read in the documentation to turn off the firewall, I wondered how that could seriously be. Was I supposed to not have my home network connected to the internet? This seemed totally screwed up.
But then, it turns out that the software firewall that is part of OSX is not really needed. Can you see Apple having a footnote to that effect in the qmaster documentation? Of course not. We are all supposed to know this stuff.
I did suggest that Apple tech support include a check list of common problems with getting Qmaster up and running for those who call in during the 90-day period for software installation support rather than saying that it is something beyond installation support.
Now of course I have other issues. It looks like it is going to be a long process for me before I realize a functional home cluster for Compressor.

Rather than use <framemaker install dir>\startup, I want to use c:\deploy - for storing all my required startup extendscripts and dlls.
Can I do this, if so, how?

hmmm. I'd guess there are some problem with for which user the environment variables have been defined...
Anyhow, usually it's easier not to use the environment variables but to provide the dbm-server it's own runtime variables via dbm_configset.
Check the old thread archive_stage and archive_stage_repeat to different NSR_POOLs for an example application of this.

Can't make client installer

Hi,
I have ARD 3.2 installed on my 10.4.10 machine with client 3.2.1. I am trying to make a new client install from the file menu. When I do this I get an unexpected error. I have tried with customer settings and just a straight make client install. It made no difference.
I have also tried it on my Leopard machine that has admin on it and that doesn't work either.
Has anyone else seen this issue?

This sounds suspiciously similar to another recent posting where an Adminstrator user couldn't execute many of the Remote Desktop commands on remote clients.
If you go into the Preferences and choose the Restricted Access tab, does the Admin application allow you to configure settings, or does it say something like "You must be an Admin user to change these settings"?
If the later, then for some reason Remote Desktop doesn't believe your user is an admin. I believe the other poster solved this by logging in as root and activating all of the options for the non-admin users.

In the normal installation of sap netweaver developer studio i miss this classes. but with the pdk on the application server (EP 6 sp2) there are. but there is a sda-file! Where i can get the needed jars?

For SP2, the classes are in:
C:\usr\sap\[SID]\j2ee\j2ee_00\cluster\server\services\servlet_jsp\work\jspTemp\irj\root\WEB-INF\portal\portalapps\com.sap.portal.runtime.application.jcoclient\lib
For SP3+ they are in:
C:\usr\sap\[SID]\JC00\j2ee\cluster\server0\apps\sap.com\irj\servlet_jsp\irj\root\WEB-INF\portal\portalapps\com.sap.portal.runtime.application.jcoclient\lib
SDA files are ZIP format files. If you have the SDA, then just unzip and suck the JAR out of it.

I used FDK9 and FrameMaker 8. I used Visual C++ 2008 Express Edition and Microsoft SDKs to compiled sample FDK hellowho.c program, This program locate under FDK directory C:\Program Files\Adobe\FDK9\samples\hellowho. It complied fine without error or warning message. I registered the hellowho.dll to fminit directory and added the hellowho=Standard,Greets user with custom greeting defined at startup,fminit\hellowho.dll, all to file maker.ini under FrameMaker directory C:\Program Files\Adobe\FrameMaker8. I got error message below when open FrameMaker:
"Cannot initialize API client C:\Program Files\Adobe\FrameMaker8\fminit\hellowho.dll
Check your errors in the APIClients section of C:\Program Files\Adobe\FrameMaker8\maker.ini, verify that the client program exists and make you sure you have enough swap space to run the client."

There are 2 issues regarding your problem statement
1)FDK9 is compiled using VC2005 and you are using VC2008 which may lead to issues which you are facing. If possible you may want to verify this by using VC2005
2)If the problem persists after doing step 1, you can try using FDK8 to compile and see if it works fine.

Problems with 7.1 API Client on 10.0

Hi folks,
I am working on FrameMaker 10.0 but need to make use of a custom API Client written for 7.1.
After configuring the appropriate maker.ini files to point to my client DLL and starting up FrameMaker I get the following error:
Cannot initialize API client D:\...
The error message goes on to say that I should check whether my client program is there or whether I have enough swap space.
I am OK on both counts.
Does anyone have any workarounds or suggestions for this or is the answer simply that 7.1 API clients won't work on 10.0.

Thanks for replying to my query regarding this. It gave me some courage to continue with this and here is the update.
I poked around in the API DLLs with dependency walker and found that two FM DLLs were not being found.
One of them, icuuc20.dll, actually existed on 7.2 so adding the 7.2 directory to the PATH fixed that problem.
However, it turns out that the XML parser has been changed from xerces-c_1_5_1.dll in 7.1 to xerces-c_2_5_0.dll in 7.2 and in the ReadMeFirst.html file with 7.2 I found the following:

Unable to apply GPO on 209 clients (RPC Issues)

I am in the process of cross forest DC migration with an environment of 400 users, first I have configured the GPO to add the dns suffix search domains to the
current clients of the old domain however upon applying policy I get The RPC server is unavailable or RPC was cancelled or access denied sometimes.
I have checked the domains (4) health , replication and all looks very well.
I connected to one of the clients that has an issue to make sure these clients are joined to the domain and using the proper DNS list. then checked if the domain
has the correct hostname as it appears in the domain and everything looked fine.
I disabled Kaspersky firewall on the client and disabled Windows firewall client but still the same issue occur .
When trying to connect to any of these clients with hostname to browse to the C$ folder it gives an error, I also tried with the FQDN and had the same problem
but with IP it connects fine.
I checked the RPC service, Computer browser service to see if they are running and they were running.
I am attaching screenshots of the GPO policy and the error that appears when trying to browse to the client folder C$ with hostname or fqdn.
I have tried the following but it didn't fix anything.. I hope someone could help point me out to the right direction
Checked DNS (Servers and clients)
Checked relative services (Netbios, RPC, Computer browser ..etc)
Checked firewall (Kaspersky and windows) and closed them both.
Checked connected DC on clients and pointed clients to different DCs to check if it'll solve the problem.
Checking DCs replication and health using DCdiag /v
Ran nltest.exe /sc_verify:domain.local and returned success ...

On one of the clients that have the issues I have also find this error on the event viewer.
This computer was not able to setup secure session with a domain controller in domain domain.local due to the folliowing "there are currently no logon servers available to service the logon request.
The weird thing is that the client have no issues and can logon to his computer which is a domain member without any issues.

I found the problem, it was due to duplicated hostnames on the DNS for all these problematic clients! The DNS scavenging seems it's not working .. I would appreciate if you could assist me on how to troubleshoot the scavenging.
I have already applied the following checks
1- Checked the refresh and no refresh interval (both were 7 days and I changed them to 1 hour)
2- Restarted DNS.
3- Set DNS to automatic scavenging of stale records.
Still no sign of items are being deleted?
