Fm9p237, probs with Save As PDF, turns *some* anchored frames blue

I am using Save As PDF because have to create CMYK PDF. I know how to do that. The issue now is that FrameMaker is sticking blue boxes around only *some* of the graphics.
They are all EPS graphics imported by reference into anchored frames. These boxes do not appear in the FM file.
The boxes clearly are the anchored frame bounding boxes.
Any ideas? Any switch I should set? Any ritual incantations that will appease the FM Postscript generator?
Thanks for your help, Becky

Hi Bernd  and Art,
Yes, I am using spot colors. I did some more testing and here is what I found:
Use Save As PDF in FM-->all colors except for spots are correctly converted to CMYK. Bitmap screenshots are also converted to CMYK. If I convert the  spot colors to CMYK SWOP  in Acrobat 9, using its preflight tool, the spots are all converted to the same CMYK values that they were assigned in Frame. BUT there are  random  blue boxes in the doc, clearly where FM for some reason colored the bounding box of an anchored frame or a table cell.
Print to Adobe Printer instance in FM with the Press Quality job options-->All colors come out CMYK, including spot colors and bitmapped
and there are no random blue boxes BUT the CMYK conversions of the spot colors are wrong.
My choice: Save As PDF. I will just remove the blue boxes with Acrobat.
I considered PitStop Pro and downloaded the trial copy,  but its userdoc is terrible and I can't figure out how to batch-convert the incorrect CMYK colors t. Can't find any good help on line either. Too much bother.
Sigh. Adobe, are you listening? It's ridiculous that the company that produces Photoshop can't make CMYK color conversion work in Frame.
TThank you, Bernd and Art. I appreciate your feedback very much.

  • SYSTEM CRASH with 'Save As PDF' in Safari

Since installing 10.6.4 my MacBook crashes whenever I attempt to "Save as PDF" in Safari. I am unable to force quit Safari or use any other application as the spinning beachball of death works its magic. I removed Safari 5 and replaced it with Safari 4.05 (using Time Machine) but this has no effect. All I can do is a hard reset to get my MacBook back from the abyss. I've just tried 'Save As PDF' from a Pages document and this worked fine.
    Any ideas?

First thing I would do if I were you is find your Snow Leopard installer DVD, boot from it, and when you get to the point where there is a menubar across the top of your screen, go into Utilities and run Disk Utility's Repair Volume option. If errors, run it over and over until no more "file system was modified" messages are reported. Then run the Repair Permissions option. That one reports errors that never go away so don't worry so much about them. Then reboot, and google "10.6.4 combo update." Download the combo update and reapply it.
No Sno installer DVD? Then boot while holding down the ⌘s keys. When you get to a user prompt, type fsck -fy and run it over and over until you get no more "file system was modified" messages. Then type exit so the computer reboots. You can continue with the repair permissions and combo update bit after the computer has rebooted into GUI mode.

  • Problem with save as PDF with FrameMaker 12

    Hey,
I just received FrameMaker 12 and I like it.
But I'm having problems when I use the save as PDF function.
It takes very long time to generate the PDF (at least 30 minutes for a book)
The fonts and spaces are messed up in the finished PDF. Some text blocks have paragraphs running over the margin
I have tried a couple of different things:
saving as MIF and back to FM
uncheck rely on system fonts only, do not use document fonts
but nothing have worked yet, please help I'm getting frustrated.

    Hi Jeff,
After I realized that I didn't make the setprint.ini file, I did that and deleted the printer=adobe pdf in the .dll file. But it still doesn't work. I save to pdf anyway, I was just trying to optimize my usage by making the default printer in FM the adobe pdf printer.
Anyway, the .dll file from above has the below information in it. I don't know what it means, but it has errors all over. Does this make a difference and what does it mean?....Thanks!

  • Save as PDF feature creates extra frame around the tables

I am creating a large catalog with black + 1PMS color.
If I use the Save As PDF feature in Frame 9, I get an extra line around the Price portion of MOST (not all) of my tables.  If I use the Distiller process, the extra line is not there, but the PDF file does not hold the color separations.
Has anyone else come across these issues or have any ideas what I could be doing wrong?
    Thank you,

If you are trying to use the new SaveAsPDF CMYK option, forget it. It is sorely broken in many aspects (just search this forum), especially when dealing with tables and OTFPro fonts.
Go back to an RGB based workflow (i.e. ensure that the "Convert CMYK Colors to RGB" option is checked in the PDF Setup) and use a third-party tool to deal with the results. Some choices would be:
    - Acrobat 9 Pro has some even stronger pre-flighting and colour handling features now, but Acrobat 8was no slouch either
    - Enfocus' PitStopPro is extremely powerful for fixing up colours: http://www.enfocus.com/product.php?id=855
    - Grafikhuset's PubliPDF tool allows you to set up conversions for the RGB by printing to a queue and then post-processing the postscript prior to handing off to Distiller for PDF creation: http://www.grafikhuset.net/PubliPDF/
    - Quite Software's Quite a Box of Tricks let's yuou do colour conversions: http://www.quite.com/box/features.htm

  • Indesign Bug with Auto-Size and fitting in Anchored frames

    Hi,
    Steps to reproduce:
    1. Create a text frame with 2 Anchored text frames with the same width.
    2. Make the anchored frames Auto-Size --> Vertical only
    3. insert text to the first frame, when type enter to the next line the frame become higher but the next frame remain in the same position. just after typing the first character in the second line the next frame adjust in the right position.
    4. The same happen when pasting text that make the frame bigger.
    5. The same happen without Auto-Size when fit frame to content.
    Does anyone knows about it?
    Any idea how to bypass?
    Thanks

  • Save as pdf deleted bookmarks when combining pdf-files

    Hello,
when I save several books each to a pdf-file with save as pdf (or printing to .ps and converting afterwards), the bookmarks are deleted when I combine the pdf-files with Acrobat. Only one bookmark for the 1st. file exists in the new pdf-file.
The reference of the bookmarks in the original generated file is e.g. "g3.619626".
These references are not anymore available in the combined files.
I've tried several settings before saving as pdf but nothing helped.
Ther are no problems of combining ordinary pdf-files with bookmarks if they are generated by other programs then Framemaker.
I need to combine files as well within a book, as "save to pdf" is not able, to generate one file with different pages sizes. I then need to generate a separate pdf-file of the pages with the for e.g. bigger page size and combine it afterwards.
In that project I'm working there will over all something between 1000 and 1500 pages from maybe 10 books with hunderts of bookmarks plus additionally separete pfd files to combine. So it's not an option to treat every bookmark before combining the pdf-files.
    My system is FM11.02.384 / Acrobat Pro 11.0.3 / Windows 7 64 Bit

Never having had a need to do it, and Adobe documentation for Acrobat being what it is, I can't tell if AcroPro is supposed to be able to merge bookmarks when merging PDFs. It would be an unsurprising feature, and you do say it works on PDFs generated by means other than FM.
Here's a hack that might work, if the variable-page-size rendering turns out to be out of reach. You can batch* this.
Open each component PDF and re-save it with some otherwise harmless optimization (or even none). This will probably cause AcroPro to re-write the internal structures of each PDF, which might then be amenable to merged bookmarks when you re-open them for merging.
    * We do a similar thing for a slightly different problem. We have a software-in-a-box XML publishing app that, at just some seats, is generating PDFs that are tagged for byte serving (fast web view), but are not in fact encoded for it. This causes AcroReader plugin and entire browser crashes for web end users. The s/w vendor can't even tell us where the option is for controlling that feature, because they get the PDF gen code from some other 3rd party. So we routinely batch process all generated PDFs, with, oddly enough, NO "commands" selected. The re-save alone fixes it.

  • FAQ: Creating PDF Files from FrameMaker v.6 & earlier Documents -- Why you should not use "save as PDF"! -- Windows & MacOS Only!

An issue that has come up over and over again on several FrameMaker and Acrobat/PDF email lists as well on the corresponding Adobe User-to-User forums is that of creation of PDF files. FrameMaker 5.5.6 and 6 have what looks like a convenient feature that is supposed to allow you to create PDF files via simply saving the document as a PDF file. I have gone on record as advising end-users not to use this approach for reliable creation of PDF files from FrameMaker documents under Windows and MacOS with FrameMaker 6 and earlier. Why do I most vociferously offer this advice and why doesn't the problem get fixed? And how SHOULD you create PDF files from FrameMaker?
    GOOD NEWS
I will start with the good news. The "next major version" of FrameMaker will indeed have "save as PDF" re-implemented in a manner that it will be as reliable as printing to the "Acrobat Distiller" printer instance under Windows or the "Create Adobe PDF" desktop printer under MacOS. I am personally working with the FrameMaker development organization to make sure this really happens and is fully and properly tested and debugged! Furthermore, this next major revision of FrameMaker, unlike FrameMaker 6, will come with a Distiller installer that will properly install the "Acrobat Distiller" printer instance under Windows and the "Create Adobe PDF" desktop printer on the Macintosh (of course assuring that the latest PostScript driver is also automatically and correctly installed).
    DON'T USE "SAVE AS PDF"
But what's wrong with "save as PDF" as currently implemented?
The following are some of the SYMPTOMS reported over the last few years by FrameMaker users that were traced back to use of "save as PDF" under FrameMaker:
    (1) No PDF file is produced at all, possibly with a log file showing not-readily apparent PostScript errors during distillation.
    (2) The PDF file "loses" color in images. All or some images (raster, bitmap images, NOT vector artwork) appear in the PDF file in grayscale.
    (3) The resultant PDF file is on the wrong paper size, i.e., the document's logical page size does not match the output page size as seen in Acrobat or Acrobat Reader.
    (4) Some or all text in the resultant PDF file is blotchy looking or overly bold.
    (5) Some or all text in the resultant PDF file cannot be searched or indexed.
    (6) Some or all text in the resultant PDF file appears in Courier or in some other substitution font.
    (7) Interword or intercharacter spacing is a bit irregular in the resultant PDF file.
    (8) Content is missing in the margin areas of the page, i.e. you cannot do full-page bleeds.
    (9) Some or all page content is missing (other than margin areas).
    (10) Relatively inefficient PDF is generated.
If this list by itself isn't enough for you, please note that some of these symptoms are very subtle and may escape attention when the PDF is first viewed or printed. Oftimes, it is when one attempts to manipulate the PDF file in Acrobat or repurpose its content or even view or print on a system other than the one on which the PDF file was created, that some of these symptoms make themselves obnoxiously visible (or invisible in some cases I won't make any bad jokes here about graphic examples!).
It is important to understand that FrameMaker does NOT have its own native ability to create PDF. Any and all PDF created from FrameMaker documents is actually done by creating PostScript via the PostScript driver and having the Acrobat Distiller create PDF from that PostScript. The only exception to this is creation of PDF via the Acrobat PDFWriter driver, which is likewise not recommended (see below).
In order for "save as PDF" to work correctly, FrameMaker must do the equivalent of calling Printer Setup and selecting the "Acrobat Distiller" printer instance under Windows or the "Create Adobe PDF" desktop printer under MacOS followed by setting the driver's options correctly for paper size, page range, etc., followed by sending the proper commands to the driver to create PostScript.
Contrary to popular belief, PostScript as generated by the Windows and MacOS PostScript drivers is VERY device-dependent. The information in the PPD file associated with a printer driver instance provides critical parameters for generation of PostScript including:
Whether the printer supports color (Acrobat Distiller does)
What PostScript language level is supported (Acrobat Distiller 4.x and Acrobat Distiller 5.x are both PostScript language level 3)
Whether native TrueType support is available (Acrobat supports native TrueType as Type 42 fonts)
Available binary communications (Acrobat Distiller supports pure binary and ASCII, but NOT TCP, TBCP, or PJL)
Resident fonts (Acrobat Distiller doesn't really have resident fonts)
Available paper sizes and custom paper size availability (Acrobat Distiller supports a wide range of predefined sizes and continually variable "custom" sizes up to 200" by 200")
Margins / printable areas (for PDF and the Acrobat Distiller, there are no margins in which imaging is not permitted)
Device resolution (Acrobat Distiller can be set to any value from 72 to 4000 dpi; as a convenience, the Acrobat Distiller PPD provides a series of values for use by the driver. Since there is no inherent "resolution" of a PDF file, this parameter is used only for purposes of allowing PostScript programs that query for such a value to be satisfied and for the driver to be able to communicate this value to the operating system and/or application as required.)
Paper handling (totally irrelevant to Acrobat Distiller if input or output tray selection via "setpagedevice" is found in the PostScript stream, it is ignored by Acrobat Distiller)
Thus, if the wrong printer driver instance is selected (i.e., it isn't associated with the Acrobat Distiller PPD file) or that driver instance is improperly configured, improper PostScript will result and one or more of the symptoms described above can occur. As currently implemented, FrameMaker depending upon version will not necessarily choose the correct printer driver instance and/or correctly parameterize the print job via driver setup options. In fact, FrameMaker 5,5,6 might even try to generate PDF via calling a PCL driver, FAX driver, or even a non-PostScript inkjet printer!
    DON'T USE PDFWRITER
The Acrobat PDFWriter is a relic of older versions of Acrobat. In fact, it is no longer installed by default in the "easy install" or the "typical install" of Acrobat 5. It hasn't really be updated since Acrobat 3 and only supports PDF 1.2. It is a GDI (Windows) / QuickDraw (MacOS) driver that directly generates PDF without any intermediary PostScript. Since it is not a PostScript printer driver, applications cannot pass through EPS graphics and/or PDFMark information (used for a wide variety of purposes by FrameMaker). For EPS graphics, most applications will send the low resolution TIFF (or PICT) EPS header in lieu of the PostScript text, if they send anything at all, to the driver. Forget about links, structure, or any other PDF "goodies." Expect that PDFWriter will fully "bite the dust" in the next major version of Acrobat.
SO HOW DO I GENERATE PDF FILES FROM FRAMEMAKER 6 & EARLIER?
The ONLY method that is really reliable for producing PDF files with FrameMaker 6 and earlier requires the generation of PostScript via a properly set printer driver instance associated with the Acrobat Distiller PPD and distillation of the resultant PostScript by Acrobat Distiller.
Case 1: FrameMaker and the Full Acrobat 4.05 or Acrobat 5.0x Products
PDF file from a "chapter" -- print directly to the Acrobat Distiller printer instance (Windows) or the Create Adobe PDF desktop printer (MacOS) already installed by Acrobat. If you check the "Acrobat data" option, then make sure to UNcheck the "print to file" option that gets set at the same time. As a result, the driver will automatically send the generated PostScript to the Distiller for you and delete the intermediate PostScript when done.
PDF file from a "book" -- print directly to the Acrobat Distiller printer instance with the "print to file" option checked (Windows) or the Virtual Printer desktop printer (MacOS) associated with the Distiller PPD (see details below under Case 2/MacOS). You will need to manually process the resultant PostScript file through the Distiller (or use a "watched folder" arrangement).
In both the above sub-cases, the default driver options generally will be OK, but check on paper size and communication protocol (Use pure binary, not ASCII, for optimal performance AND no CTRL-D characters under Windows. Make sure to set Level 3 only and Binary under MacOS. Font inclusion "All" for Acrobat 4.05 and "None" for Acrobat 5 under MacOS.). With Acrobat 4.05, make sure you preset the Distiller to use the joboptions you want. With Acrobat 5, you can set this on a job-by-job basis via the driver printer setup interface (or print dialog on MacOS).
Case 2: FrameMaker 6 and the Bundled Acrobat 4.05 Distiller
Windows -- Create a new printer driver instance using the latest version of the Adobe Universal PostScript Driver Installer, downloadable from Adobe's web site AND the Acrobat Distiller PPD file (located in the XTRAS subdirectory of the Distiller directory). This driver instance should be set to print to the local port named "FILE:". Name this driver instance as "Acrobat Distiller". The default driver options generally will be OK, but check on paper size and communication protocol (use pure binary, not ASCII, for optimal performance AND no CTRL-D characters). Make sure you preset the Distiller to use the joboptions you want. Print directly to this Acrobat Distiller printer instance. Make sure that the "print to file" option is checked. You will need to manually process the resultant PostScript file through the Distiller (or use a "watched folder" arrangement).
MacOS -- Install the latest version of AdobePS 8.7.x, downloadable from Adobe's web site. In FrameMaker, go to Page Setup and select the "Virtual Printer" and go to the "Virtual Printer" window pane. Select the Acrobat Distiller PPD file (located in the XTRAS subfolder of the Distiller folder). Print directly to the "Virtual Printer" (Make sure to set Level 3 only, Binary, and font inclusion "All".). Make sure you preset the Distiller to use the joboptions you want. You will need to manually process the resultant PostScript file through the Distiller (or use a "watched folder" arrangement).
    Case 3: Acrobat 3
Acrobat 3 is not officially supported for the latest OS versions and I personally would no longer recommend its use for generation of PDF files given that Acrobat 5.0.5 is the current version of Acrobat.

You're asking a lot of ancient Acrobat to work with an Office that never existed when it was made. "Just updated my office suite" is a massive change, and Window 8 didn't exist at that time either...

  • Enable advanced tagging vs. Enable Accessibility and Reflow with tagged Adobe PDF

Does anyone know the difference between these two settings in the PDFMaker preferences?
Enable advanced tagging vs. Enable Accessibility and Reflow with tagged Adobe PDF
I can't find any information that distinguishes these two mutually exclusive settings. I'm trying to decide which is best when creating a tagged PDF from MS Word. If anyone has a clue, I'd greatly appreciate it.

"Enable Accessibility and Reflow with tagged Adobe PDF" (Turn this on)
Enable this to create a tagged PDF. If this is disabled, the PDF will not be accessible. Tags tell a screen reader where headings, lists, and tables are.
"Enable advanced tagging" (Turn this off)
This looked promising, as it changed the name of tags to match Styles used in Word. For example, it changes "H1" to "Heading 1" and "P" to "Normal". Unfortunately, this feature is buggy. Test thoroughly. Using this feature, I've had plain paragraphs tagged as "Heading 2", even though the tag name itself remained mapped to "P" in Acrobat Role Mapping screen (so error in naming the tag). However, some headings were mapped to paragraph tags (error in logical tagging). I've also had table cells tagged according to the style of an element in another cell. In short, it's risky feature. Adobe says this feature is "Useful for Microsoft Word forms". I have not seen that and don't recommend you use this until it's fixed.
As of: Word 2007. Acrobat Pro X.

  • Save as PDF in FM 9.0.3 causes crash

In FM 9.0.3 (aka 9.0p250 ... why are there 2 names for the same thing?) when I save a book or file with "Save as PDF" FrameMaker crashes.
It leaves Acrobat Distiller (9.3) open with message
Adobe PDF Settings file read error in PDFX4 2008.joboptions:
    /CheckCompliance out of range
The good news is that if I go through the Print dialog and select Adobe PDF as the printer it prints fine.

Can anyone tell me how to *effectively* unsubscribe to every post in these forums being emailed to me? I've tried every obvious, and not-obvious-but-recommended-by-someone thing I can think of.

  • Unable to "save as pdf" using Excel

    Hi,
    This problem concerns SharePoint 2010
We have an issue with "save as PDF" option to the library on one particular site, it appears to work but the .PDF file never appears in the library.
We can save as PDF to the desktop then upload to the library.
Word will save as PDF to the same library without issue.
Would very much appreciate any ideas you might have or help you can give,
    Thanks,

If you are able to save as PDF from Word, but not from Excel, it could be a bug in Excel.
Have you checked to see if there are any Excel updates/patches that you do NOT have installed?  This kind of thing is usually fixed through a patch.
I trust that answers your question...
    Thanks
    C

  • Pages Exports to PDF/Printer Saves as PDF with weird characters

This situation is getting worse for me, not better, the more I'm using Pages.
I have made several files, nothing special, just used Pages for layout and the ease of using colors and shapes.
When I Export as PDF, sometimes random text boxes end up having all spaces replaced with exclamation marks. Not always the same one, not always all of the text fields on my page, and so far, never the title. When I "Print to PDF," which used give me an error and say I had to export only but now works, I get the same error. Even a character I used 5 times on the page, the first 4 were fine and the 5th had turned to an exclamation mark. Just for kicks when I could not get my file to work last night, I exported to Word (looked fine) and then went to Save as PDF... same exclamation marks. Physically printing the files has no errors.
Last night I rebooted my MacBook and let it sit a bit and tried again, and both files I was trying to export came out fine. Other times this has happened though, my computer was neither warm nor a few hours from the last reboot.
Methinks that this is related to making PDFs on my computer, maybe that connection between printer driver and making PDFs, but it's also got to be Pages-related. Except for the file I exported to Word, I have no problems with Print to PDF for anything else- Word, Excel, web pages, etc. What should I check/do to try and diagnose the problem? Since the things I do in Pages are generally on a deadline, I need to be proactive about the solution. Rebooting is not going to save me every time.

It could be a font cache problem. You might try using a utility to clear the caches or try doing it by hand. Try a Google search on "clearing font caches" and Leopard, for example. I believe something like Onyx will do it though I haven't used that myself.
I'm not sure about this - it is just a hunch based on some things I've read about problems with Leopard and pdfTeX.

  • What's the difference with save as illustrator pdf vs ai?

What is the big difference between saving as an .ai versus saving as a .pdf. I like the flexibility of saving as a .pdf so that people w/o illustrator can view my comps. I know if I save as a .pdf (versus printing or exporting), I can reopen the .pdf and still have all my editing capabilities there (that i know of). Can someone enlighten me?

    > What is the big difference between saving as an .ai versus saving as a .pdf.
That depends on whether you leave the default settings on. If you do, you are really saving two full and distinct copies of the entire content in one file, and the "difference" between the two files is mostly marketing-inspired hype. But if you turn off the default setting to include BOTH versions of the file, then the difference is real. AI and PDF content is not the same thing.
The two default options I refer to are:
Create PDF Compatible File (when saving as AI)
Preserve Illustrator Editing Capabilities (when saving as PDF)
    > I like the flexibility of saving as a .pdf so that people w/o illustrator can view my comps.
That's fine. But you are really saving two complete versions of the file's content, and the PDF you are sending to your non-Illustrator recipients is much larger than necessary. That's because the PDF, by Illustrator's default, also contains another complete copy of the file in Illustrator format, which is ignored by Reader.
    > I know if I save as a .pdf (versus printing or exporting), I can reopen the .pdf and still have all my editing capabilities there (that i know of).
That's fine, too. But again, that's only because you are, as stated above, saving a PDF that also contains a complete second copy of the content as Illustrator-native objects. When you open that PDF in Illustrator, Illustrator loads the native-ai content, not the PDF content.
    > Can someone enlighten me?
Despite confusing marketing hype to the contrary, PDF and Illustrator formats are not the same thing.
PDF is basically like capturing the artwork halfway on its path to a PostScript printer. Illustrator-specific constructs like live blends, multiple fills, multiple strokes, (and much more), are dumbed-down to simpler discrete objects.
But a PDF file can contain a "cordoned off" area that can contain just about any kind of data a programmer wants to insert there, but which is altogether ignored by Reader. Think of it like inserting a comment statement in a code file. That extra data, of course, makes the file larger.
Similarly, Adobe changed Illustrator's format a while back to also include a "cordoned off" area that can contain PDF data. Again, that extra data makes the file larger.
When you save as PDF in Illustrator, you are saving the content of the file as "dumbed down" PDF content that can be understood by Reader. But when doing so, if you also leave the default "Preserve Illustrator Editing Capabilities" checkbox on, you are also including a full copy of the file in Illustrator's native format in that "marked off" area inside the PDF. So if a recipient using Reader opens the PDF, Reader loads the PDF content and ignores the "marked off" content. If you open the PDF in Illustrator, Illustrator checks to see if you also stashed away AI-native content in that "marked off" area. If it finds that you did, it opens that version of the content, not the PDF version.
Inversely, when you save as AI, you are saving the content of the file as the fully editable Illustrator-specific constructs. But when doing so, if you also leave the "Create PDF Compatible File" checkbox on, then you will also be including another copy of the same content dumbed-down to PDF objects, and stored in .ai format's "marked off" area. If you then, for example, Place the .ai file in InDesign, InDesign in fact imports the "hidden" PDF content, not the .ai content.
The problem is, this scheme has been marketed as "equality" between Illustrator's native format and PDF format, and that has led to needless confusion. It's as if saying:
    A may contain B.
    Therefore A equals B.
Which, of course, is bogus. According to what I have been told, Corel, for example, could hide its fully-native Draw content within the "marked off" region of a PDF exportd from Draw. Corel could then, I guess, similarly claim that Draw and PDF are "equal."
    Try this:
Open an Illustrator file. Make sure it contains some Illustrator-specific content, like a live Blend and a multi-line AreaType object. Save it as PDF, but turn off the Illustrator Editability checkbox. You have now exported the file as PDF content. Now open the PDF in Illustrator. It will open, because Illustrator can understand the simpler objects. But you'll find that the Blend is not an AI blend at all; it's just a stack of individual paths. The text object will be multiple textFrame objects, not one AreaType object with auto-wrapping text.
Now go back to the original AI document. Save it as AI, but turn off the Acrobat Compatibilty checkbox. Launch InDesign and try to Place the .ai file. InDesign will tell you it can't place the file. That's because InDesign can't really place .ai content. It can place PDF content, but there isn't a PDF version of the content in the .ai file you are trying to place.
    So...
    > I like the flexibility of saving as a .pdf
That's fine, so long as you are not fooled by the smoke-and-mirrors. If you allow yourself to go on thinking that PDF and AI are actually "the same thing," you'll be scratching your head as soon as you open a PDF that
doesn't happen to also contain a stashed-away version of itself in .ai-native format. (For just one example, if you ever happened to open a PDF saved by me.)

  • Is possible in acrobat reader fill in and save interactive PDF created with LiveCycle Designer?

is possible in acrobat reader fill in and save interactive PDF created with LiveCycle Designer?

    Hi,
Only if the form has been Reader Enabled before it is sent out to the user with Reader.
There are two ways of Reader Enabling the form. One using Acrobat Standard v9 or Acrobat Professional v8 (both have license restrictions). The other is to use LC Reader Extensions ES2, which is a server product (additional costs).
    Some info here:
    http://www.assuredynamics.com/index.php/2010/11/using-livecycle-forms-in-acrobat-and-reade r/
A search of the forums for "Reader Extensions" or "Reader Enable" will give more information.
    Hope that helps,

  • Illustrator saves blank PDFs with information about missing content

I use Illustrator CS6 on OS X 10.8. Yesterday I noticed that my PDFs come out as blank files with the text
This is an Adobe® Illustrator® File that was saved without PDF Content.
To Place or open this file in other applications, it should be re-saved from Adobe Illustrator with the "Create PDF Compatible File" option turned on. This option is in the Illustrator Native Format Options dialog box, which appears when saving an Adobe Illustrator file using the Save As command.
which is actually a description that typically appears in AI files saved without PDF compatibility. It's not document-wise but rather application-wise issue because it happens even if I create a new Document, draw something in the middle of the canvas and save it. Also, all of my existing documents which used to save well before, do that now. Basically, I cannot save correctly a single PDF. But it seems that the exported documents must contain the data because they have different sizes based on the content.
There's no problem with saving in AI format. I hope that's enough information necessary for someone smart to diagnose this problem because I start to be desperate
Do you have any idea? Thank you.

Oh, my friend just recommended me to erase cache and it worked! :-) I erased folders ~/Library/Caches/com.adobe.Illustrator and ~/Library/Saved Application State/com.adobe.Illustrator.savedState and one of them did the trick :-)
