FMS for syncing background video

I have a question regarding which version of Flash Media Server will best serve the project I am currently working on and whether the approach I have in mind is possible with FMS.
The project envolves Flash Media Server syncing a dynamic background across multiple Flash Players running on separate computers on the same local network. One approach is to have FMS handle the variables and calculation on its side and communicate this to the other Flash Players (this I understand can be done with the Streaming Server).
The second approach is to have FMS execute ActionScript on its own side to create the dynamic background and then serve this out as a video stream to the other computers. (With this approach FMS can completely takeover the processing required to generate the background content and the other computers only need to play it back as video. Is this type of approach possible with FMS and, if yes, with which version.
If I am unclear about any part of my question, please feel free to ask. Thank you.

Scenario 1 is possible with any version of FMS. The caveat to that is, if using Streaming Server, you'll need a .swf client (or other client that can send AMF data over a netstream) to send the data across a netstream using netstream.send(). The reason for this is that Streaming Server cannot execute server side actionscript, so the data has to be published to the stream from the client side.
Scenario 2 is not possible with any version of FMS. FMS can't composite video or draw video frames, it can only serve pre-recorded video content or live streams published from client side applications.

  • Ideas for syncing 2 videos for use in multiclip

    So, I shot a live concert with 2 cameras and am now attempting to use multiclip for the first time. There was some kind of hicup on one camera and when I capture the video from tape it comes in as 3 clips. The second camera I made a stupid mistake and hit standby once. So now I've got several clips and they are not synchronized. I want to use all the audio from the one camera and then multiclip some angles from the second camera.
    In the beginning of the show there were several people taking pictures and they used a flash and I was able to use the flash to sync up the 2 video cameras exactly. Then I used multiclip successfully to edit. Now about 20 minutes into the show I've got pieces of video that are not in sync and no flashes to use to help me. Any ideas or tips on how I might be able to synch things up again?

    That's the idea. The other thing you can do if you had a common timecode is set the AUX timecodes for the pieces and sync on AUX timecode when you build the multiclip.

  • Presenter for syncing 1hr video to PPT slides

    I'm looking for a solution to sync a 1 hr video to PPT
    slides. I came across Presenter but I seems from what I can tell
    only allows videos PER slide and not 1 video with cuepoints for all
    slides. Is that correct? Can anyone recommend a solution that I can
    use for this?
    thanks
    Fish

    Hmm. I see I can edit the XML to call the same files by
    adding the <video> node, but it doesnt seem to be very
    precise as it loads each slide. There are overlaps in words and
    missing words even when the time codes are the same.
    For example:
    slide 1
    <video url="video_heads_258_2_28170.flv"
    StartTime="0.000000" StopTime="25000.000000" MuteAudio="0"
    IsH264="0"/>
    slide 2
    <video url="video_heads_258_2_28170.flv"
    StartTime="25000.000000" StopTime="33000.000000" MuteAudio="0"
    IsH264="0"/>
    Its a shame you can't load a movie with cuepoints and trigger
    the slides. definitely a bummer.

  • Looking for background videos

    Hello all
    I'm on the hunt for various background videos, I have found IStockPhoto and Getty Images, but I was wondering what other options I may have and, was hoping for a few recommendations, I'm not really looking for anything specific cause it really all depends on what project I'm working on at the time....
    Thanks

    Is joke, yes?
    Anyone know where I can find a red and white swirling, falling into the vortex,
    There are several presets and prebuilts within Motion and LiveType.
    kinda cartoony looking type
    You mean text? Can't imagine text doing what you're describing without many carefully applied filters. Since the text is customized by the user, no.
    background to key?
    You mean key in front of? Or you want to key out the background? Huge difference and we cannot possibly read your mind.

  • Position Background Video

    I think I know the answer to this question from googling, but I'd like to confirm that...
    I would like to have a background video playing on in a window/viewport on one side of my menus. So far as I can tell, that's not possible in Encore CS5; if you attach a video file to a menu, it gets centered in the menu and you can't independently position it.
    I was working around this problem by creating a background video that takes up the entire menu's area, but crops the video (actually a slideshow) into the area I want it to play in. That gets me the visual effect I want, but the size of the background video coupled to the number of menus I'm using it on runs afoul of the 1 GB menu size limitation for DVDs.
    Has anyone figured out how to do this in a (disk) space efficient way? For example, could I use a video button with no action set as a placeholder for the "background" video?
    - Mark

    Create the video in premiere or after effects so that the "video" is offset and scaled as you wish.  You can add the still background there or as a superimposed layer in  the menu (but not menu background).  However, the movie you export from premiere or after effects will be full screen (size to the DVD size), and if it is too long (or too many menus), you will exceed the 1 gig limit.
    You might be able to thumbnail it, but where is the advantage?
    Possibility that you can use that to place a smaller movie, but I don't know if it works that way.  Worth testing.

    To enable this right you need Acrobat, not the free Reader.
    However, starting from Reader X it is possible to add simple markups to any file, unless it has been specifically disallowed by the creator of the file.

  • Background video for menus'

    Newbie: Want a standard scene as menu background for use in different movies. Do I have to edit and burn to DVD to import or is there a better way? Using PE9. Sorry if this has been answered numerous times before. Recording in avchd.

    No. You just add it under the Disc Menus tab as part of authoring your DVD.
    I show you step by step how to do this in my books. http://Muvipix.com/pe10.php
    But basically, you select a menu template under the Disc Menus tab, then click to select its background in the Disc Layout panel. Once you do that, you'll see the Browse button for locating the video or still you want to swap in as the background.

  • Lip-Synced Music Videos for YouTube?

    I have been creating music for 20 years (home studio), and would like to create videos for some of my original songs (currently on mp3 or wav files), then upload to YouTube.  I know virtually nothing about video or video editing.   I was wondering if Premiere Elements would be a good editing application for my purposes.  For each video, someone would film multiple video takes of me lip-syncing to a pre-recorded song.  Is Premiere Elements sophisticated or precise enough to allow excellent synchronization between separate video clips and an audio track for lip-syncing purposes?  Would you recommend something else (for PC)?  Thanks.
    Greg

    Greg,
    The ONLY advantage to PrPro in your stated need, is to do the Audio editing in Audio Units, but then as you are working in Audio already, you probably have a favorite DAW, and that will give you even more control. That is NOT to say that PrPro does not have other pluses, but just not that would likely apply here. Hey, one's gotta' get something for the extra $600, right?
    I'd get the trial of PrE 9.0, and test with it. There are a few limitations on certain formats, but it's pretty full-featured for a trial. Just know that it will place a watermark on the Exported/Shared footage, so you cannot deliver/upload that, and get clean, watermark-free footage.
    Unless I missed something (I do most of my editing in PrPro, so do not put my PrE through all of its paces), the operations will be almost identical.
    For syncing, just remember to work in Timeline View Mode (only way to work in PrPro), and turn Snap OFF (the S key togglesn Snap), otherwise, you will be trying to force little increments, and the Audio will jump about, and Snap onto cuts, etc. Just toggle it back on, when you go back to the Video editing, as it makes general alignment much easier.
    If one is doing any Speed change, PrPro might be a bit easier, and offer more control, but not THAT much.
    Now, if you do not have a DAW, that you love, then you might consider the CS5.5 Production Premium suite, with Audition included. One can easily do some pretty heavy-duty Audio work in that program. My workflow would be to edit the Video, and then Import the Audio and the Video into Audition, where I would tweak the Audio to perfectly (within that 1 Frame for Video), while watching the Video. Audition will offer the ability to work with Envelopes for the Audio, and adjust the Speed almost infinitely, while maintaining Pitch. However, that is not a cheap suite, and there will be a bit of a learning curve, if one has not used Audition, or a similar DAW before.
    Good luck, and let us know how the PrE trial works out.

  • Which video size for webpage background?

    Hi, my client was interested in having a video run full screen, as background of a webpage, similar to this:
    http://www.shutterstock.com/video/landing/beach
    I have never worked on a video project made for the web (other than YouTube), so I was unsure about the size to use for the project/ the size and type to export as from Premiere.
    The client wants to use several stock videos. On Shuttershock, you have three options of size for downloading the video as 1)Web 2)SD (852 x 480)  3)HD (1920 x 1080)
    My first inclination was to use the Web size (due to bandwidth, etc), but it's only 426x240. I was afraid it'll show as poor quality if set up as the page's entire background. Ideally, something like HD would be great visually, but wouldn't the size of the video be too much to handle as the background of a  webpage (not sure if it's going to be implemented within the html, but I'd imagine so)?
    I don't know much about webpage building or anything, so any information would be helpful! Thanks!

    The width of the video should match the width of the website page.
    eg 960px is a common width for site pages.
    Ask the site designer.

  • TIMECODES are important for audio and video sync issues

    Hello, just wanted to pass on what I learned so that others can avoid the trouble that I've had to go through. Perhaps this may help someone who is stuck on the launch pad. :)
    BOTTOM LINE: Info for the beginner. Audio and video not in sync in Premiere Pro CS3 V3.2.0
    PROBLEM: Capture works great it seems. When I go to the folder that contains the captured file and view in Windows Media Player audio and video are in sync. BUT when viewing the video asset in the source and program monitors, the audio and video are not in sync.
    SOLUTION:
    Before capturing a tape make certain the following is checked:
    (1) Edit->Preferences->Capture->Use device control timecode
    (2) Edit->Preferences->Device Control->Options->Timecode Format
    (3) Project->Project Settings->General->Video->Display format
    As for the devices timecode choose something other than Auto Detect. Then match the project timecode with what was chosen during capture. The projects display format could of course be set to frames.
    I searched everywhere for audio and video sync issues in google, adobe forums, F1 help, and hv20.com and everyone was talking about:
    (1) Presets: 1080p30 vs. 1080i30 (60i).
    (2) brakes in the tape where timecode for the audio and video get misaligned during capture.
    But choosing the correct hardware settings and timecodes to solve audio and video sync issues never popped up.
    MY HARDWARE: Canon HV30, HDV

    >Audio and video not in sync in Premiere Pro CS3 V3.2.0
    Must be an HDV only issue because my synch is always perfect.

  • Can't load/import converted video into itunes for sync

    I converted a video into ipod format by 2 diff software. They seem to have converted correctly as I can play them in apple quicktime. I tried to bring them into itunes for sync, but can't bring them. I tried dragging into movies, tried import, tried add files. Non of them working. Can anybody help me in this, ho can I bring the file into itunes? I am using itune 7, should I go back to old ver (6.x..)?

    I just converted some TV shows with iSquint, and drug them over to movies and presto they were there... I then when into Info, changed them to TV shows and they moved over to TV Shows.
    It works.

  • How can I fade in menus with background video?

    Hi there,
    I'm new to this forum (and to DVD SP) and have searched without being able to find out how to get my menus to work in this scenario:
    I have a short (6s) background video that does not loop and ends on a still frame.
    There are two drop zones, both with semi-transparent areas so that I can see the video play underneath. One drop zone has my title (as text in DVD SP) and the other has my "play" button.
    I want my video to play for 5s and then have all the other elements fade in over the last second.
    Here's what I've tried (thanks to suggestions from here and dvdstudiopro.digitalmedianet.com--which uses js that really bogs down Firefox, BTW):
    A. I created a custom patch using PS that's a 6s .mov file that's simply a black mask that fades to white.-->this causes my drop zones (which are layered psd files with a mask of their own) to fade up, BUT the custom patch overrides the drop zone mask and causes the drop zone to become completely opaque.
    B. I tried separating the background video and menus into separate menus in DVD SP. The first menu plays the video, then jump to the second menu which contains the last frame of the video as a still with the drop zones and button on top.-->this works but there is a noticable delay going from menu 1 to menu 2 and it looks horrible.
    C. I created a 6s .mov file in FCP that does exactly what I want, but when I bring it into DVD SP, the quality suffers.-->I exported without compression from FCP and with, same bad results (especially in text).
    Is there a way for me to get this to work gracefully?
    I put a still of my menu with callouts at this url if it helps:
    http://infactfilms.com/dvdmenu/
    Thanks very much and I appreciate the wealth of info in this forum.
    Cheers!
    misho

    Hi
    Read this note about Menu rendering in DVDSP:
    If you edit all your elements in FCP, adding the graphic fade in/outs, texts, etc and then export it directly with Compressor to MPEG2, and use that file/s as Menu backgrounds, DVDSP will not re-encode these menus.
    If you add in DVDSP text, graphic for buttons, drop zones, etc it will need to render and encode the background again to add those graphics.
    Take care of what video format you choose in FCP for your background edit. DV codec works really bad with graphic elements; you better choose DVCPRO50 sequence settings and export directly from FCP through Compressor. That way FCP will use the raw info from each frame and not the render files as if you export as Quicktime Movie.
    Hope that helps !

    Can you connect to a wifi source on the device? Enable wifi in settings on the device itself. If you don't have wifi at home, there may be a local hotspot you can use for this.
    The reason this happens is carriers don't want people downloading huge files that would slow their network as well as eat up your data plan.
