Folder rights management: accidental move of folders

Hello,
because it happens now and then that a user accidentally moves a "top"-folder, I am searching a way to prevent this.
A typical folder tree would be:
NSS-Volume--Department-Folder--Project-Folder--Sub-Folder
I want to prevent movements of Project-Folders, these are the root folders of the department (like F:\Project-Folder).
At the moment, rights (RWCEMF) are set to the Department-Folder and they are inherited down to Sub-Folders. Sub-Folders shall be deleteable.
Now, if I break inheritance for Erasing on the Department-Folder I would have to set Trustees on... Project-Folder? No, I would gain nothing.
Instead, I would have to set Trustees on every Sub-Folder in every Project-Folder. These are a lot of folders and a very dynamic number... I would have to create a cronjob script for that.
So, isn't there a better way to protect Project-Folders?
Thanks
Michael

Michael,
If you're just dealing with users accidentally moving folders, it
might be easier to modify their PC rather than dealing with folder
rights. We had users accidentally dragging files without realizing
it. Bumping the following reg setting solved it. (I pushed it out
with ZCM.)
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop]
"DragHeight"="20"
"DragWidth"="20"
They default to 4.

  • My local folders appear to be in the trash folder, how do i move them?

I recently got a new PC and migrated my email folders. Since then I have noticed many emails seem to have disappeared when I look for them in trash or sent. I just noticed that my local folders appear to be in the trash folder: when I minimize "trash" they disappear. I'm thinking this may be the reason I keep losing emails but I can't figure out how this happened or to move the folders out of the trash.

No problem Bob...glad to be of assistance. To change the titles, you can either do this also when you have selected File>Get Info & then select on the "Info" tab or by clicking on the title of each Movie/TV Show in your library.

Thank you for the suggestion - I tried it but still didn't work.  When I click "New Folder" it gives me the pop-up to name the new folder, but doesn't put a new folder anywhere in my Project Library.

  • How to define a Rights Management process "Protect Document" with an watched folder?

    Hello.
I try to build a process in Workbench 11.0, that uses the Protect Document operation of Rights Management.
The process should use a watched folder as start point.
My problem is, how to fill the operations parameters (Input Doc, Document name, Policy set name, Policy name, ...)
    Jürgen

First -- by default iTunes stores its Library in "My Documents\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Library.itl", and its Music in "My Documents\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Music\".
Make sure you have a "iTunes Library.itl" after the restore -- if not, and your backup software supports it, try an older version of the file. If your backup software only keeps the last version of the file -- well, then you are SOL, and you will have to re-add the files to the Library. You will also have to rebuild your playlists, ratings, etc.
Since you have "very few files" in the iTunes Music directory -- either you weren't storing your music there, or your backup didn't work. Are you sure you weren't using a non-default location for your music files?
If you had a hardware problem then it is likely that your backup stopped working properly at some point. This is why you need a rotating backup scheme and periodic archiving of files to non-writeable media (If you have the time/money)

  • Applying rights management through a watched folder

Greetings -- I'm trying to apply rights management to a PDF through a watched folder. I've created a short-lived process that invokes the Rights management Apply Policy module and created a watched folder endpoint. When I drop a PDF file into the watched folder, however, the result ends up in the failure bin (after a very, very long delay). Here's the error from the resultant log file:

Any ideas on how to fix this?

I believe the issue is that the user that you named in the enpoint definition as the person who will execute the service has to be named in the policy. Add that user to your policy.

  • Should the admin/user folder and all of its sub folders be moved to the hdd or just parts of it? (eg. picture, movies, documents)  What is the best way to go about doing this.  Also should a 2t hdd be partitioned.

iMac with 256ssd and 2t hdd. Should the admin/user folder and all of its sub folders be moved to the hdd or just parts of it? (eg. picture, movies, documents)  What is the best way to go about doing this.  Also should a 2t hdd be partitioned.

Yes, you can move your user directories to the HD and keep your OSX and Applications on the SSD drive.
Whether you partition your HD or not depends on how much data you have and how you propose to use your HD.
Are you planning to use your iMac as a Time Machine backup volume? If so, partition it off.
Do you have huge data files, eg video, music, photos?
How much of your 2tb drive will be "free" once it is loaded with all your data?
A little more information is required before the optimal configuration can be recommended for your use.

  • Can I apply a Rights Management policy to multiple documents in a folder at the same time using Adobe Acrobat Pro?

How can I apply a single Rights Management Policy to multiple documents in a folder at the same time instead of applying it to each document individually?

I don't know of a method with Acrobat, why not set up a watch folder and just drop all the files in that folder to have rights applied.  You might want to look at the workbench help if you've not done this before.

  • How do I move music folders with individual music files from windows 7 to itunes folder so that they are recognizable and playble?

How do I move music folders with individual music files from windows 7 to the itunes library so the files are usable in itunes?

All of the following programs should work with Vista.
Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Another free program is Pod Player.
    SharePod is also freeware.

  • How do I move multiple folders to  a new location

I'm tring to reorganize after a computer crash. How do I move multiple folders to  a new location?

In the Organizer you can switch to Folder Location View by clicking the Display button (near top right)
You can then expand he folder tree in the left hand pane and drag and drop.

  • Would like to be able to select and move multiple folders in one operation.

Unless I'm missing something really simple here, there doesn't seem to be any easy way of selecting and moving multiple folders at once.
Here's a little example of a simple task I want to do. I presently have a multitude of folders each seperated by the day the photo was taken on. So in my case for a given year I might have maybe 50 folders or so. It's getting a little cluttered, so all I want to be able to do is to take all the folders for one given year and place them in a folder with that year's date. This should be a simple 30 second task, simply select the folders I want moved by either <CTRL> or <SHIFT> clicking them, and then dragging and dropping them into the new folder.
Right now, the only way I've figured how to do this this is to drag and drop each folder one by one, never mind that this is a slow process in itself, but to add to the slowness, whenever I try to drag and drop more than one folder consecutively, I get a message saying ... "Can not move a folder while another move operation is in progress...blah blah". Not that I want this to be the fix, but haven't they heard of queuing?
I've seen people on the net suggest that for this type of task, you should simply move the folders in Windows first and then locate them in Lightroom. Again, unless I'm missing something very simple here, there doesn't seem to be a way to locate multiple missing folders at once. If I have to manually locate each missing folder one by one, then I'd rather just do the drag and drop thing as this would actually be faster.
I've also tried moving the folders from within Windows first and then using the "Synchronize folder" option, yeah sure this works, but I lose any changes that I've done in Develop module. Not what I'm looking for.

Daniel is right. It´s really strange that I can´t move several folders in one move! When I need more space on my laptop I move a group of folders (one folder for every photosession) to an archive. Therefore I really would like to move them in one click, not "baby-sitting" the move of each folder.

  • Yosemite/mac pro: I can no longer move any folders or files around!

I hava a Mac Pro (late 2013) with Yosemite 10.10.1, migrated from old former Mac Pro/Mavericks yesterday.
I split files onto internal HD (system, some user data, all programs, Library, etc.) and pics, documents, iTunes Media onto external HD (RAID)
I have all the rights to read/write folders and files.
I can copy files from one location to another (via ctrl-context menu copy command), I can also delete files,
But simply dragging files is nowhere possible!
Not with each HD or between them
What am I missing here, this is very very strange ...
Please help, this is really urgent,
    bye,
    beatrice

Thanks for jumping in to help.
I can click a file or folder (highlight the icon/filename, rename, etc.) but I simply cannot drag it.
the simpliest normal thing you do in the finder, moving files to a different location, is simply not possible (not with mouse, not with wacom pen)
(I also cannot drag the icons around on the desktop, which is minor problem at the moment; I can create new folder though (but cannot move them)
(I am Admin, have all rights to read/write)
(when using the program Adobe Bridge (sort of image catalogue) I can move the files around)
    really strange....

  • How to move multiple folders to new location?

I have many folders containing photos. There are located like this:
    - photos 01
    - photos 02
    - photos 03
    etc...
I want to move these folders under differernt folders. For instance, 2008 will contain all folders with photos from 2008. But now LR2 asks me to confirm the location of each folder! How can I have LR do a simple check into the new folder I give it to check if it contains other missing shoots?

In the Organizer you can switch to Folder Location View by clicking the Display button (near top right)
You can then expand he folder tree in the left hand pane and drag and drop.

  • Livecycle ES3 - Opening and edit rights managed MS office document in SharePoint

As stated in the release note of LiveCycle Rights Management 9.5 Extension for Microsoft Office:
"After opening the protected document: When you open a protected document from SharePoint Server, all permissions on the document are disabled, regardless of the policy that was applied."
Current LC ES2/ ES2.5 does not cater the direct edit of MS office documents in SharePoint.
Is there any news that LC ES3 will resolve this to allow direct edit on the document?
    Thanks.

    Excellent!
    Worked for me.
I am currently using Windows 8.1 Pro  and  Office365 ProPlus.
I got the same issue as stated by "Aki from Finland" after and decided to follow the steps outlined by "TylorWang". There were a few things I did differently due to the difference in product versions. Instead of going to the \14.0 folders,
I went to the \15.0 folders (both in the registry and under the \AppData folder).
I used PowerShell, running in Admin mode of course, to stop the MYOSYNC
    process with:
    kill -name msosync
Once I was done with the three steps, I restarted my computer. Once I logged in into my account, the usual Office Upload Center cache error did not occur and my files are now syncing without any problems.
Thank you very much "TylorWang" for your clear and precise solution and thank you TechNet for your continued support!
    Taylor.
Edit: I also run Lync 2013 on my system.

  • Organizing movies into folders

I have discovered that by setting the "Show" field of Video info to a name then when synced to the ATV I get a folder containing all the movies with that name. Is there any way this organization can also be reflected back in iTunes itself ?

If you mean on the iPhone-you can't.
Folders only for applications-not data or files.
If you mean sort them so they show as tv show title-season #-episode # in the iPod app, then you need to tag them in itunes and then sync them to the iphone.
Right click on the file in itunes-select get info-fill in the info.

  • Imported files into wrong folder, easy way to move them to another?

Two things happened to me this weekend using Lr that caused files to go into the wrong folders.
On one import I forgot to change the folder to a new one and it dropped all of my pics from the CF card into an existing folder. Oops.
On another import I actually had images from what I would consider two seperate events. One was me goofing around taking pictures of the moon and the others were from St. Pattys day at the pub. So I've got moon pics in my St. Pattys 07 folder.
So is there an easy way to correct this without deleting and reimporting? I tried the obvious drag and drops of selected files in the grid but it seemed adamant that this was a no-no.
    Sam

Try from the center of an image and you should get a wornng dialogue about moving on the hard drive when you drop them on the folder you want. Hey do have to be all from the same folder for a given move.
Try selecting some and doing the arrow trick by the filename in Metadata to go to the folder and then move all you want from one folder to another.
Rather than in All Photos, as I previously mis-stated.
