Following a moving object with a mask

Has anyone out there tried to follow an object with a mask in FCP? bascially I transferred a CAD video into MOV and imported it into FCP to edit it.
NOw i have a "flickering"occuring over some of the objects in the video that I have been masking with a PSD (transparent background) of 'the whole object'.. But i have to import and insert these masks each frame.... does anyone have ANY other ideas on how to resolve this.
A friend of mine said aftereffects, but i cant imagine FCP cant do it.

if you have FCS 2 you can use Motion's Analyze Motion and Match Move functions ... tutorial here

DaNI following a moving object using it's ultrasonic sensor

Hi,
I was wondering if anyone would be able to point me in the right direction/ help me out.
Is it possible to program daNI to follow a moving object throught the use of it's ultrasonic sensor?
I ask as i aim to (hopefully) create a platoon of daNI using this program.
So far I've seen an awesome example of a daNI platoon from the UCLA Mechanical Eng. department, found here:

If i read correctly, UCLA used an infrared sensor to get the daNI to follow each other.
My project aims to have a lead daNI that follows a specified path (or even just a straight line) and the following daNI will use the program I'm requesting further info for.
Regardless, if anyone could share any knowledge, links, or example code to kick me in the right direction, I would be very thankful.

I think the examples in that link are using the ultrasonic sensor, you can see the little sensor moving left to right on top and they have placed a sheet of paper to get a good 'bounce'.
Getting a daNI to follow in a straight line should be fairly straightforward as you can get a distance and use that as feedback for your motors. I think using daNI's onboard sensor to follow a curved path would be quite difficult. In the linked video you can see that the robots are quite slow as they have to perform an entire sweep of their sensor before they can act. Traditional following systems use 2 sensors placed a distance apart from which you can measure the intensity of a sent signal and therefore calculate a rough position.

Link a "Smart Object" with his Mask - possible?

At this time, Smart Objects can't have masks linked to them. So place your smart object in a group by itself, then create a mask for the group.

Camera following a moving object

Hi all,
Im trying to make a little game in Java3D and im stuck on the following problem
I create a world with a moving car in it. All works fine and i let the car move using KBRotPosScaleSplinePathInterpolator.
This all works very fine, the thing is is that i want to add a camera the program which follows the moving car so that we get a 3d person look. Like we have in Grand Theft Auto for example. Any pointers or perhaps an example on how to accomplish this?

Try to get the TransformGroup of the viewPlatform, the use it as a target of any Interpolator as u desire.

Artifacts when moving object with arrow keys.

Hi all
hope this is the right place to post this question.
I want to to write simple arkanoid game in Flash (AC3). I've managed to write code that moves my paddle with arrow keys. The code looks like this:

It works but the result is ugly. The animation is not fluent, there are times when paddle stops for a moment . Also when speed of translation is high (here it is 10) you can see that paddle is flickering at the ends, it looks like single buffering problem. You can see both of those effects here: http://www.flash-game-design.com/flash-tutorials/movOb.html , hovewer flickering is less visible due to small translation amount.
How to fix this? How can i enable double buffering (or maybe it is enabled by default)? Any help will be appreciated.

Hovewer you are doing everything almost exactly as I'am doing. Tou are using mySymbol.x++ which means your translation speed is 1. Also I'am aware that rising frame rate will result in smoother animations, but this is not the point. So once again, my flash applications suffer from two problems:
1) Animations are not smooth. You can see this crealrly in here: http://www.kirupa.com/developer/actionscript/hittest.htm , go back to the very bottom of the page, there is an animation window, look at the smallest circle. It looks like its blinking.
2) Moving symbols with arrow keys with the method i've presnted in the first post (the same method that infeter uses ). Moved symbol is randomly stopping for the very (very very) short amount of time. You can easily spot this in infeter sample.
Many sample applications i've seen suffer from those issues. and nobody seems to see the problem, so maybe I am delusional? ; p

Action: can a Connection Line follow the moving objects

Dear members of this forum,
I am currently discovering the possibilities of Apple Keynote, and I find it very interesting. I just registered and would like to ask my first question.
Using "Connection Line" I can connect two objects (like two rectangles), and in this way, I can move these objects when changing my slide without worrying about the line ending up in the wrong place.
But what if I want to use animations and let those objects move during the presentation? I cannot find any way to force Keynote to make the endpoints move along?
Do you have any suggestions?

Seems my last post got cut off at the bottom. Here is the rest:
When you select the second action, you will get the option to have it happen Automatically with build 1. Then do the same for the third action. The result will be all three objects moving at the same time to where ever you told them to move to.
As for grouping two objects and a connecting line, I don't think that you can do that within Keynote. What you can do though is select all three objects and copy them. Then open Preview and command n +(or File>Get new from Clipboard)+, copy and paste back into Keynote. Basically it turns the three individual objects into one pasted .pdf. The problem is you can not edit each individual object then. The plus size is it allows you to add a scale action along with the move if you want and you don't have to worry about the connecting line not connecting anymore.

Copy object with clipping mask from illustrator to photoshop

I want to copy objects from illustrator to use in photoshop, but the eps file that i am working in has a clipping mask and when i attempt to copy objects in that file from illustrator 6 to photoshop 6, portions (in some cases) all of the object turns black or gray. I'm sure this is a simple noob error (hope my question is clear enough), and it's driving me nuts. I have searched for solutions using terms "clipping mask, black, copy, move, illustrator, photoshop, etc." and can't find any discussions on this topic. Can you please help?

You simply lose the blending modes and transparency settings because this stuff works differently in both programs. You will have to reinstate it manually e.g. if the white highlight is created usuing Add blending mode, you will ghave to use the same in PS...

A moving object with trailing shadow.

I have a floating object, it floats around the top 3/4 of the screen. HOw would I be able to have a shape used as a shadow follow the object and get larger and smaller as the object floats up and down? Is the some parameter settings that could emulate this?

There are no links between parameter adjustments - though I've requested them and It'd be great if you did too - I'd love to have an ability to set a simple mathematical relationship between parameters like increment size 1/2 of x position. It's not immediately obvious what that ability would give you, but I can think of all kids of fun things you could do - like your shadow requirement.
Since that's not available right now, you'll just have to animate both properties separately...

Photoshop CS5 moving object with exact measurement

Hello,
I'm new to this forum and to Photoshop. I'm picking things up pretty quickly but I have a small question, it's probably very simple.
I had a business cards designed few years ago and the designer gave me the .psd file. I need to get them printed again but want to make a small change. I need to move my logo 3mm upwards. I have my rulers set to millimetres, I can select the layer and move it without any problem but is there a way I can move it exactly 3mm?
I've been struggling with this for a while so any help will be greatly appreciated.

Use Free Tranform
In the Option Bar, you will see fields for X and Y. There's also an icon near them that toggles absolute and relative position. Make sure you're using relative, and enter "3mm" in the Y field. If it moves in the wrong direction, undo and try again with "-3mm". You could also just enter "3", and select mm as the unit by right-clicking on the Y field.

Problems moving an object with the selection tool

Im working on CS2 and since last week I have a problem moving objects with the selection tool: To move the object I am obligate to select the object first, and then click at the edge/stroke of the object to drag it. Before that I could move the objects just by selecting somewhere in the object and then just drag it to some other place in one step. I think I maybe changed something in the general preferences....

How do you track a moving object using Labview and Vision Assistant

I am using Vision and Labview to create a program that tracks and follow a moving object using a high end camera. Basically what it does is it detects a foreign object and locks on to it and follows it where ever it goes in a control sized room.
I have no idea how to do this. Please help. Or is there an available example.

It sounds like you want to look into a Vision technique called Pattern Matching. Using our Vision tools, you can look for a image, called a template, within another image. Vision will scan over the entire image of interest trying to see if there are any matches with the template. It will return the number of matches and their coordinates within the image of interest. You would take a picture of the object and use it as the template to search for. Then, take a picture of the entire room and use pattern matching to determine at what coordinates that template is found in the picture. Doing this multiple times, you can track the movement of the object as it moves throughout the room. If you have a motion system that will have to move the camera for you, it will complicate matters very much, but would still be possible to do. You would have to have a feedback loop that, depending on where the object is located, adjusts the angle of the camera appropriately.
There are a number of different examples a that perform pattern matching. There are three available in the example finder. In LabVIEW, navigate to "Help » Find Examples". On the "Browse" tab, browse according to "Directory Structure". Navigate to "Vision » 2. Functions". There are examples for "Pattern Matching", "Color Pattern Matching", and "Geometric Matching". There are also dozens of pattern matching documents and example programs on our website. From the homepage at www.ni.com, you can search in the top-right corner the entire site for the keywords, "pattern matching".
If you have Vision Assistant, you can use this to set up the pattern matching sequence. When it is complete and customized to your liking, you can convert that into LabVIEW code by navigating to "Tools » Create LabVIEW VI..." This is probably the easiest way to customize any type of vision application in general.

BI Platform: Parameter object with the name "URL_PARAM"... does not exist

Hi,
I'm facing this issue with only one dashboard in BI4 Platform. When trying to view it through the BI Launch Pad, I get the following error:
"Parameter object with the name "URL_PARAM" and the index "0" still does not exist in the parameter 1[...]".
I've seen this thread where a similar thing was reported with NetWeaver platform.
My client as well as server versions are Release 1.4 SP0 Patch2 (14.0.5).
Also, although some of the pictures referenced in the dashboard are not in the Public Folders on BI4. Could it be that it's not able to reference the images and hence not be displaying the whole dashboard?
Please let me know if anyone has a solution to this.

So here are the versions we currently have:
SAP BO Design Studio (64 bit) - 14.1.0
SAP BO Design Studio 1.4 for BI Platform - 14.1.0.349
And on checking on Central Management Console, I get this:
SAP BO BI Platform 4.1 Support Pack 5 Patch 2
Version: 14.1.5.1568
Also, I'm not sure if I installed an add-on or the patch. Based on these versions, could you tell me how to fix the issue ?

Clipping with multiple masks

Is there a way to clip an object with multiple masks? For example, with the outlined letters of a word?
I'm using Illustrator CS3 on a Mac.

JPEG does not have transparency, but I don't think you really need it. All you want is for the background image to look lighter, right?
I think it would be easier to use an "Opacity Mask" rather than a clipping mask to create the effect you are after.
To do that:
1. Make a 75% gray rectangle the size of your photo and align it to the photo.
2. Move the text that will contain the "solid" photo above the gray rectangle and make it white, then group the text with the gray rectangle.
3. Select the group along with the photo and choose "Make Opacity Mask" from the Transparency flyout menu.
You can edit the opacity mask anytime, by selecting the masked group in the layers panel and clicking the opacity thumbnail in the transparency panel. To view only the opacity mask Shift-click on the thumbnail.
This should be easier to edit and export fine.

Webi Reports - Object with id ... cannot be created because it has no name

I'm trying to launch a Webi report from our application using openDocument method. When the report is launched it fails with following error -
30567: Unable to save the document to the repository due to the following error: The object with id number '27731' cannot be created because it has no name. (Error: WIS 30567)
Before scheduling the report I'm calling setName method to set the name of the report but still it does not work. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi John,
I will try to give you some more background about this problem.
From our application we are not directly launching the report. We schedule it to run immediately and then view the instance created (using the instance id returned by the schedule call).
For scheduling we use the web services API (BIPlatform) and before scheduling we fetch all the prompts (again using a webservice API). The call is something like this -
WebiProcessingInfo wProcessingInfo = boWebIReport_.getWebiProcessingInfo();
After that we populate all the prompts with their corresponding values in application and schedule it. However the scheduling fails with the error I mentioned in the start of this thread and when we try to view it we are presented with a screen to enter prompts again.
From the scheduling error it looks like its failing because the name could not be set but I really doubt if thats the case. We use same calls to schedule and view Crystal reports also and they work perfectly. Only Webi is giving this error.

How to desaturate only a moving object???

I am trying desaturate a fast moving object....basically want the person who is moving fast to be in color but everything else desaturated and then vise versa.
Can anyone give me some pointers, I have Color as well if it is easier. I just cant seem to figure this out. All help would be greatly appreciated!

Actually, it sounds like you're trying to desaturate everything but the fast moving object... which leads one to ask how you might isolate that...
If everything is moving (including the camera), you're kinda SOL... however, you might be able to use a difference matte filter to get what you're looking for.
Put a copy of your clip on V2, over the same clip on V1. Add a difference matte filter to the clip on V2. Put a clip that's one frame off from your clip into the image well. Things that move slowly will not have much difference frame to frame, things that are moving faster will have more. Adjust your settings so only the moving object generates a mask.
Use color correction on the two clips to achieve your effect...
