Following payment verification my debit card is no longer being accepted?

Hi all,
I am being asked to verify my iTunes store payment method, for some years I have been using my direct debit card without any problem but now the iTunes automated verification system is stating that the card cannot be accepted and that I should use a different "credit" card?
I have verified via my bank that there is no reason from their side why the card payment should be rejected and there are sufficient funds available.
Any help would be most appreciated.
Regards
John.

As far as I know debit cards aren't accepted as a valid payment method. There are instructions on this page for how to create an account without giving a credit card number : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2534
Depending upon what country that you in you might be able to buy iTunes gift cards from Apple or other stores (supermarkets, electronics stores etc) and use those to buy items - but they aren't available in all countries, and they are country-specific (they can only be used in their country of issue

Were the VISA and MasterCard issued to you by a bank in the country where you reside and do they have a verifiable billing address in the same country?
Or are these debit cards that you bought in a local store. Apple does not accept debit cards that you bought.

  • My debit card is no longer working with my iTunes account

I use a debit card for my account. I can't spend what I don't have. Even if I'm 2 cents short of the app's price, iTunes will have a pop-up saying the purchase cannot be completed.
This has saved me many times before, and because of this I can only buy apps when I have the necessary funds on my account.
My most recent purchase was the game "Knightmare Tower" for 99 cents. The purchase went through fine.
About a week later, a couple of apps needed updates. Attempting to update them, however, brought up the log-in prompt. Logging in took me to a screen telling me my card was not accepted for the purchase and to update my info.
Every time I try to update it, it keeps coming up as declined. I cannot download apps, free or not, or update them.
I paid for the app and apparently now it says I owe the 99 cents, which I can't pay anyway because iTunes is no longer accepting my card or allowing me to update my information.
    Please help?

    Hi grecokev,
Thank you for contributing to the Apple Support Communities.
You mention that your iPod nano is no longer recognized by iTunes after an update. Reinstalling iTunes is a good troubleshooting step, and if the device still doesn't appear in iTunes, try the following steps next:
Turn off your computer and your iOS device or iPod, then turn them on again.
Check to make sure that you've installed all required updates for your computer.
Verify that the 30-pin to USB cable or Lightning Connector to USB cable is free of debris and not damaged. If another cable is available, test with that cable instead.
USB cables that are bundled with third-party products or accessories might work only to charge those products and might not transmit data. Also, if you're using a third-party case or extended battery pack, try removing the case and connecting the Apple-supplied USB cable directly to your device.
You can find these steps in this troubleshooting article:
iPhone, iPad, or iPod not recognized in iTunes for Windows - Apple Support
If the steps above don't solve it, see the section of the article called "Verify that Apple Mobile Device Support is installed" for some additional steps to try on your PC.
    Best Regards,
    Jeremy

As far as I know debit cards are no longer accepted as a valid payment method - they are not listed on this page and there have been a number of posts recently about them being declined. Do you have a credit card that you could use instead ? They are generally considered safer when used on sites that store the card's details.

  • Singaporean Visa debit card working but Indian Visa debit card not working

I had an iTunes connect id linked to my singaporean DBS bank Visa debit card and it worked fine in the app store, now I have created a new account in India and I am trying to link it to my HDFC bank Visa debit card but it fails. Is there a solution to this or  is getting a credit card from the same bank the only solution?

Debit cards are no longer accepted in the iTunes Store. But if you only want the free apps, take a look here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2534
Read the steps carefully as the order in which you follow them is  critical. Note that you can do this only when creating a new Apple ID. You cannot use an existing ID.
You will of course not be able to get anything other than the free apps without entering in some sort of payment method (credit card, prepaid iTunes card, gift certificate, etc.)
    Regards.

  • HT5622 is it possible to register for an Apple ID with a DEBIT card number? (instead of a CREDIT card)

    Dear Friends:
A friend of mine has just had a new iPod Touch as a gift.
She do not have a CREDIT CARD account and, so, she could not register her iPod and, as a consequence, could not have an Apple ID...
    Is there a way?
She has an DEBIT card, but it was not accepted in the registration process.
    Thank you for your help.

I spent 5 dollars on a app on my phone. It didnt ask me for anything about my debit card then. Now one of my apps needs to be updated. It asked me to sign in and update my billing info. I go i change my security code and the experation. I also made sure everything else was correct and it was. When i pressed done it said "your payment method was declined". I checked my bank to see if i have money and i do lol but it wont accept my new debit card and im about to do some stupid **** because im ******

Debit cards are no longer accepted in the iTunes Store, it seems. The current valid payment methods are listed here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5552
Using a debit card in any online service where it stores your card is a bad idea in any case since if someone gains access to your account in the service, they can quickly drain your bank account. Credit cards limit your liability, as do prepaid iTunes cards. But if you insist, you can contact the iTunes Store and ask if they can help:

  • HT3702 can you use a debit card with itunes?

hi, i am wanting to use a debit card from hdfc to make purchase on itunes. when i was living in the usa, making purchases with the debit card went smoothly but here in india despite it being an 'international' card it doesnt seem to go through and is rejected. my card works for many other sites including flipkart and amazon. not sure why apple doesnt accept debit cards
