Font aliasing in Forms6

Hi, i developed a form with some text and images, the font that I used in the text is VERDANA, but when I display the form on the browser the font change to ARIAL...I use other fonts too and i'm having the same problem. I read something about font aliasing but I didn't find anything that could help me. Any idea or solution will be welcomed.

Have you set the hinding to high quality (examples below).
We use Java2d for text in our pdf extraction software and have no complaints (screenshots at www.idrsolutions.com if you want to compare).

  • Uifonts.ali/barcode font aliasing on Solaris

    Hello folks..
    I'm running Oracle Reports 10g on a Solaris box. I am needing to print barcodes on PDF reports I generate. I have installed a TrueType font on my Windows box called Code39Azalea.ttf and did the same thing on the Solaris box.
    On the Solaris side the font was installed using font administrator and the font works fine, same goes on the Windows side.
    I created a plain jane report with some text in it "*12345*" and used the Code39Azalea.ttf font. In preview it looks like a barcode as it should. When I run the report on the web I just see the text "*12345*" and not the barcode.
    In uifonts.ali located in /export/home/10gproduct/guicommon/tk/admin, in the PDF section I created the following:
    Code39Azalea = code39azalea
    No barcode. I even changed it to equal times and various other fonts and it seems as though its not picking up the change. Yes I did restart the jobs to make sure the alias file is being picked up.
    What should I set the alias to?
    Code39Azalea = ?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello,
    What is the font name used in the PDF file ?
    (Search for /BaseFont in the PDf file
    Example :
    /BaseFont /Helvetica-BoldOblique
    The font name specified at the left of the equal sign must be the font name after the font aliasing. To find this font name, generate a HTML output (DESTYPE=FILE DESNAME=/tmp/fontname.html DESFORMAT=HTML) and check the font name used in the HTML output

  • Label in PDF Report cut off when using font aliasing (9i2)

    Hello.
    I have a report and one label on the report that is a bit longer than the rest.
    This label is displayed correctly in the reports builder, in the HTML report and as PDF when font aliasing is off.
    But if the PDF report is generated when font aliasing is used - the label is cut off.
    The label is displayed up to the point where it would finish without font-aliasing. (the alias font is a bit broader)
    The field spans the whole page in the paper layout, and every char-width value I use has width 1000, so I'd guess that ain't the problem (also since the non-aliased is displayed correctly) (Btw, the string is 84 byte long)
    The pdf is generated via a url like:
    http://server:8888/reports/rwservlet?report='timereport.rdf'&userid=xx/yy@mydb&destype=CACHE&desformat=PDF&<...paramters...>&filename=/TR_20050703_1300_20050711_0500.pdf
    Any ideas?
    best regards,
    Martin

    Hi Scot
    Just replied to your email re. conf call.
    In the meantime.
    1st question.
        Some of our developers are creating the reports under crystal 2008, while some are 2011.
        Could this be a problem, when they are run by the SDK?
        Should we upgrade all our developers to crystal 2011?
    The version of CR a report is created in should not matter at all. I am 100% certain this is not the issue.
    2nd question
        When the report is run, to create the pdf... why would it actually embed the font on the pdf?
        if they weren't embedded.. wouldn't it just pull up the proper font, if the user's pc had that font on their
        pc?
        if it does the common fonts aren't embedded, we would just have to worry about the things like
        barcode 3 of 9
    I can not answer this as that essentially is the way the product is designed. It may look like a limitation, but there are no work-arounds and I would not consider this to be a bug. Perhaps an enhancement, but a pretty faint hope there. And even if, enhancements take very, very low priority and take long, long time before implementation.
    3rd question
        Would the fonts, just need to be installed on the server?   we've seen some indication, that they
        also need to be in a java sub-directory
    The fonts must be on the server as that is where the report engine does it's work, then the report is streamed to the user's browser. E.g.; there is no work done on the browser. Also, the process must have rights to access the fonts.
    One last point. You mention deployment to Linux. Linux is not supported. Please see: SAP Crystal Reports, Developer Version for Microsoft Visual Studio - Supported Platforms
    I suspect this is more an issue with CR not working with the framework for Linux.

  • Having an issue with font aliasing.

    I seem to be having a weird issue that I've never experienced before. My fonts appear to be aliased, both in Photoshop and Illustrator, even after applying anti-aliasing.
    Below is a screenshot of Helvetica Neue Ultralight at 9pt and 72pt, and Arial at 60 pt, all with anti-aliasing set to smooth. When I set anti-aliasing to other settings, it doesn't get any better. Turning it off makes it worse. The project is 300dpi (or ppi as photoshop says, wouldn't that technically make it 150dpi?)
    http://www.nikostoscani.com/images/textaliasing.png
    I am doing a business card design and read that it's actually to keep text aliased for print. Is this true? Should I not worry about it? It seems odd to me, because I've never experienced this before. It's the same way on both my Mac and PC, in both Illustrator and Photoshop.
    Any and all help would be much appreciated!
    EDIT: Even custom shapes appear to be aliased along some edges. I'm not sure what's going on.

    It could be your monitor's resolution setting.  Have you tried printing the fonts and shapes?  If so, are they pixelated in the print?  FYI, 300ppi does not mean 150dpi.  PPi is an image resolution, DPi is a print resolution.  Both are different but are often confused where consumers typically say dpi when they mean ppi ( not knowing the true differences between the two ).

  • Font aliasing.

    Hi Everyone.
    I'm having a lot of trouble getting fonts within Oracle Reports to display correctly when printed via Solaris.
    They are 6i Reports originally developed on Windows 2000 which have been moved into the Solaris environment. Most of them contain text in the Arial font, but the only fonts I can get to come out on the printer are Times New Roman and Courier.
    I've tested it across several printers (all of which are HP LaserJet 4100s of some description), but all give the same results. I have my uiprint.txt and uifont.ali files setup as required, my environment variables point to the correct locations for the HPD and TFM files, and the printers have the Arial font installed on them. It seems the PCL generated by Reports and sent to the printer doesn't contain the right escape sequence for Arial.
    Anyone had problems like this before or know what I can do?
    Thanks a lot,
    Matt.

    Thanks Rohit.
    Could you please be more specific about what documentation you're referring to? A URL perhaps? I can't find it.
    Probably worth noting that I'm using Reports 6i. I have followed all relevant doco, and setup files as required (uiprint.txt, uifont.ali, etc. etc.) and no luck.
    Matt.

  • PDF Format Oracle Reports font issue

    My process is generating the batch oracle Reports.
    Their key map is:
    Key1: %* server=server1 userid=xxxs/xxx@xxxx report=D:\sample.rdf destype=file desformat=PDF
    My process is calling IAS server to generate report. IAS ser is generating and saving the report in the specified location.Reports are running on the server locally and DESTYPE=FILE. So the Oracle Reports output is saved on the server itself. Whenever i open the report on my machine/server i have font issue. Some of the reports has very tiny font. It seems the reports generated by using oracle reports which is Arial Unicode font type is causing the problem. If any reports other then Arial Unicode font like Arial Westrn, those reports are fine. We have 1000s of reports. So we don't want to change each report font type. For me it seems the issue is with the font on the server. Is there anyway to ask App server use Arial Westrn if Arial Unicode not found. How to make these configuration changes in the server. Any suggestions please.

    Maybe this helps or at least points you in some direction ...
    Have a look at font aliasing when configuring Application Server : http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B14099_19/bi.1012/b14048/pbr_font.htm#i1006140
    If your Application Server is located on Windows I would suggest to install the fonts there.
    In Unix, this a more complex task.

    # MS Gothic, MS PGothic and MS UI Gothic. To subset MS PGothic, the
    # entry in the PDF:Subset section of uifont.ali would be:
    # "MS PGothic" = "msgothic.ttc,1"
    # NOTES ON PRECEDENCE OF PDF SECTIONS:
    # If you have entries for a same font in many PDF sections, then Font
    # Aliasing entry will take precedence over Font Subsetting entry. Entries
    # in Font Subsetting will take precedence over the entries in Font Embedding
    # section.
    # Generic entries for a font must follow more specific entries for the same
    # font. For instance, if you want to subset helvetica Plain, helvetica Bold,
    # helvetica Italic and helvetica Bold-Italic fonts, your entries must be:
    # [ PDF:Subset ]
    # helvetica..Italic.Bold.. = "Arialbi.ttf"
    # helvetica...Bold.. = "Arialb.ttf"
    # helvetica..Italic... = "Ariali.ttf"
    # helvetica..... = "Arial.ttf"
    # If helvetica..... entry appears in the top of the list, all the styles of
    # helvetica font in the layout will be subset as helvetica Plain font.

  • ARIAL FONT IN REPORTS(WINDOWS), NOT SHOWN CORRECTLY UNDER LINUX

    Our Reports are developed under Windows (Report Builder 9.0.4.0.33 and Windows 2000/Windows XP) and generated under Linux (IAS 10.1.2.0.2 with Red Hat Advanced Server). The Report Output is a PDF, that will be downloaded by the user with WEB.SHOW_DOCUMENT. This works fine, but fonts are not shown correctly in the PDF, especially ARIAL, which is the font we use.
    I have run the Fontsolution Configuration Script from Metalink, but we still have a problem.
    When you look at the font.pdf, wich is the testreport from fontsolutions, some sizes and styles of Arial are printed correctly others not.
    Arial 8 is ok, but Arial 10 and Arial 12 are something like Times New Roman.
    Arial 12 Bolded is correct, but Arial 12 italic and Arial 12 bold italic are also not
    the Arial Font.
    How can we correct this problem?

    # NOTES ON PRECEDENCE OF PDF SECTIONS:
    # If you have entries for a same font in many PDF sections, then Font
    # Aliasing entry will take precedence over Font Embedding entry. Entries
    # in Font Embedding will take precedence over the entries in Font Subsetting
    # section.
    # Generic entries for a font must follow more specific entries for the same
    # font. For instance, if you want to subset helvetica Plain, helvetica Bold,
    # helvetica Italic and helvetica Bold-Italic fonts, your entries must be:
    # [ PDF:Subset ]
    # helvetica..Italic.Bold.. = "Arialbi.ttf"
    # helvetica...Bold.. = "Arialb.ttf"
    # helvetica..Italic... = "Ariali.ttf"
    # helvetica..... = "Arial.ttf"
    # If helvetica..... entry appears in the top of the list, all the styles of
    # helvetica font in the layout will be subset as helvetica Plain font.
    uiprint.txt
    # This is the printer configuration file.
    # The format for entries in this file is:
    # <OSName>:<Type>:<Version>:<Long Name>:<Description File>:
    # The first field is the name of the printer. It is the name you give
    # to lpq.
    # The second field is the type of driver to be used for the printer.
    # Currently, "PostScript" and "ASCII" are the only types of driver for
    # printers supported for now. But in future we may be supporting
    # drivers for other printer types.
    # The third field is the version of the type of printer driver. It's 1
    # or 2 for all PostScript printers; or 1 for ASCII printers.
    # The fourth field is a long description of the printer. This will be
    # presented to the user in the "Choose Printer" dialog window.
    # The fifth field is the printer description file to be used. For
    # PostScript printers it is the PPD file of the printer. (This field is
    # currently unused for ASCII printers.)
    # You can use default.ppd for the description file if you don't have a
    # PPD file for the printer, but it's best to use the correct PPD file
    # for the printer.
    # You must fill in at least the first two fields (printer name and
    # type). If the version is empty, it defaults to "1"; if the long name
    # or description are empty, they will default to empty strings. A
    # version of 1 or an empty long name is fine, but, for PostScript
    # printers, you must fill in the description file name.
    # You don't have to update this file to use any printer. The printer
    # chooser interface let's you select a printer and driver at run time,
    # as well as associate a printer description file to the printer. You
    # should list all printers accessible to users here, however, to
    # simplify selecting a printer.
    # The first entry in this file will be used as the default printer, if
    # no printer was selected in the operating system. (For Unix, the
    # following environment variables will be used in turn to get the
    # default printer's name:
    # TK2_PRINTER
    # ORACLE_PRINTER
    # PRINTER
    # For other platforms, see the Installation and User's Guide for your OS
    # for information on setting the default printer.)
    # WARNING: Do not define multiple entries for the same printer by the
    # same name. Selecting a printer with multiple entries will always result
    # in the first entry being selected. Instead, see if your OS allows you
    # to create an alias for the printer, and use an alias for the second type.

    If you want to make platform independent use of fonts, you have to use the family, such as sans serif.
    Arial is owned by monotype (http://monotype.com/). You have to contact them if you wish to redistribute it with your application. They also might have a suitable version that renders nicely under linux.

  • PDF font problem on Solaris (Reports9i)

    Hi.
    We are recently moving our application from 9ias Release 1 to 9ias Relese 2. After several configuration problems I was managet to get most of it to running, but encountered big problem with Reports. In Reports6i we used font aliasing, and included several modified fonts with AcrobatReader3. With AcrobatReader5 it's not posible because of more strict checking of PDF standard.
    Then of course with Reports9i we start using PDF font subsetting. After added several ttf's (Arial, Courier New, Times New Roman) it started working fine with one exception. Report created with plain Courier New 10pts is not subsetted - in pdf i receive fixed-bold 12 pts.
    It happening only with this one size of font. Courier New with size 10 pts and bold or italic looks good. When I change size to 9 or 11 pts - it's ok. I've checked if fonts existed in Xserver - they are.
    I double checked uifont.ali - it's ok. I've temporarily solved the problem by changing font in builder on Windows from Courier New to Courier (same size), and then everything works ok. Of course it might be solving - but for the amount of work (about 200 reports) I'm looking for more 'normal' solution.
    Any ideas?
    Reports server working on Sun Sparc Solaris 5.8, 9ias Release 2 (Patch 2).
    Builder works on WindowsXP, 9ids Release 2 (Patch2).
    Czesiek.

    Reports 6 or Reports 9? Note that Reports 6 does not generate
    syntactically correct RTF for Unicode characters.
    We've been running with a postprocessor to correct the RTF and
    to change the Oracle-set font to Arial; I'll be watching to see if
    there's a better way since our postprocessor shouldn't be needed.

  • Font smoothing issues

    Hi all. I noticed some others were complaining about font smoothing not seeming to work in Carbon applications (e.g. Camino, Firefox, MS Word and even iTunes). It seems the subpixel font-aliasing system preference (e.g. light) is ignored and, instead, the ugly CRT font smoothing is used.
    I am puzzled this has not received a lot of attention, since it immediately bothered me when I received my Macbook Pro today.
    Is everyone experiencing this font smoothing problem? I used the Migration Assistant to copy all files from my previous (Tiger-installed) Powerbook. Does anyone not having used the Migration Assistant also suffer from the font smoothing issue?
    For more info, see http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=1829478&#1829478
    Macbook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    TinkerTool didn't make any difference for me. I played around with it and found that there was no improvements using it or disabling font smoothing.
    I have watched DVD's on this LCD being played with my MacBook. I have seen 2MB+ full screen digital pictures. Both the DVD and digital pics look absolutely amazing on it.
    It's only the fonts that appear blurry or in some areas they appear to have a shadown to the right. This happens with any text that appears in every app.
    Keep in mind too, Windows Vista looks perfect on this display, but my prized MacBook looks really sub-par.
    I'm not quite following you on changing the display preferences to change to pixel size to that of the MacBook...

  • Can't see Adobe fonts in ID CS6

    They're in HD>Library>Fonts. I've even added the relevant font aliases to ID CS6's Fonts folder.
    I'm referring to Adobe fonts. They appear after Zapfino in Font Book and in assorted Apple programs, and in strict alphabetical order (i.e. A for Adobe) in Word and FontExplorer.
    In ID CS6 I've searched for Adobe Caslon under A, under C and among the esoteric font groups after Zapfino.
    Any help would be most welcome!

    On further checking I found I had duplicates. The active ones were in <user>/Library/Fonts and the inactive ones were in /System/Library/Fonts. I've reversed the actives/inactives and they now behave. I guess ID doesn't care for the <user>/Library/Fonts path.

  • Fonts issue on 10g Reports (Linux)

    A while back I posted some questions about installing fonts on Linux RHEL 5.
    Currently, I'm in process of upgrading Client/Server Forms/Reports from 6i on a Windows platforms to 10g forms/reports on a Linux RHEL5 platform. No database is installed on the server since we are using the TNSNames in the Network Admin to connect to the database.
    I have been able to convert all forms and all reports to 10g. I had an issue with the Arial, Arial Narrow, and Courier New fonts not displaying in output when I generated a PDF file via the screen using the WEB.SHOW_DOCUMENT command. The fonts were translating. I was able to use Metalink Note 261879.1 and run the scripts to generate the AFM files and copy the TTF fonts to the appropriate directories. When I run the reports in 10g on Linux, those 3 fonts display just fine.
    However, I have 3 other fonts (Monotype Sorts, Arial Unicode MS, and one of Barcode fonts) that I need to get working. I've worked with Oracle Support and I'll be honest, the steps they are telling me either aren't very clear or just flat out aren't right.
    I've tried on Windows to use the ttf2pt1 program to generate the AFM files and copied those up to guicommon/tk/admin/AFM directory. I've copied the TTF file up to the associated directory. I've modified the uifont.ali directory to include the font, to no success.
    Has anyone tried to move a Windows font up to Linux (Unix) and got it to work successfully? If so, could you provide me some steps? I've really been trying to get this to work and would do anything at this point to get it to work. I've got about 5 reports that use these 3 fonts and if I get them working, I'm done.
    Please provide good detail, if possible. Oracle Support has just confused me more by providing notes to read and little tidbits here and there but haven't given me something that works in a straightforward manner.
    Chris

    # Corrected uifont.ali - Matt Jernigan, Brown University, 31 MAR 2010
    # Corrected [ Global ] aliasing standard Windows fonts.
    # Corrected [ PDF:Subset ] Arial Unicode MS and less standard fonts.
    # Note: These corrections do not necessarily match Oracle docs.
    # 05 APR 2010 - Decided to subset Arial, Arial Narrow, Courier New,
    # and Times New Roman in addition to Arial Unicode MS due to lack of

    # helvetica = "Arial.ttf"
    # The True Type font files must exist in any one of the folders specified in
    # REPORTS_PATH.
    # Subsetting TrueType Collection fonts:
    # Typically, a TTC font contains several fonts in one file. For example,
    # the TTC file, msgothic.ttc consists of three fonts in the order -
    # MS Gothic, MS PGothic and MS UI Gothic. To subset MS PGothic, the
    # entry in the PDF:Subset section of uifont.ali would be:
    # "MS PGothic" = "msgothic.ttc,1"
    #MJJ# - Removed old subset mappings.

  • Fonts hard to read at small font sizes in browser.

    Hi!
    Recently i switched to Arch 64-bit and everything seems fine but the fonts at some places.
    This is what they look like:
    This is my .fonts.conf:
    <?xml version='1.0'?>
    <!DOCTYPE fontconfig SYSTEM 'fonts.dtd'>
    <fontconfig>
    <match target="font">
    <edit mode="assign" name="rgba">
    <const>rgb</const>
    </edit>
    </match>
    <match target="font">
    <edit mode="assign" name="hinting">
    <bool>true</bool>
    </edit>
    </match>
    <match target="font">
    <edit mode="assign" name="hintstyle">
    <const>hintfull</const>
    </edit>
    </match>
    <match target="font">
    <edit mode="assign" name="antialias">
    <bool>true</bool>
    </edit>
    </match>
    <dir>~/.fonts</dir>
    </fontconfig>
    I have installed ttf-ms-fonts, ttf-dejavu, ttf-liberation and ttf-tahoma.

    If I zoom out a bit in Firefox I get which isn't perfect but is quite readable.  The interesting thing is that I don't have the nasty looking serif font in the text box.  Is one of us missing an installed font?
    My /etc/fonts/local.conf

  • Font alias lookup fails.

    In illustrator, when I try to open a PDF document created by somebody else , I get the following message:
    “The font TimesNewRoman is missing.  Affected text will be displayed using a substitute font.”
    TimesNewRoman is an alias for the Times New Roman that I do have. When opening the file in Acrobat, the Acrobat has no problems looking up the font. But, it seems that font lookup in Illustrator on my computer is not working.
    Do you know how Illustrator looks up font aliases? Is there a way to add missing aliases?
    I am using Illustrator CS5 and Windows 7, 64 bit.
    Thank you.

    For some reason the font replace dialog in my Illustrator is missing “Times New Roman,” though I do have it in the %windir%/fonts folder.
    It appears the document’s Times New Roman with an asterisk overrides it.
    As a workaround, I convert all fonts to outlines in Acrobat before opening in Illustrator.
    I think you are right about subsetted fonts being the problem.
    Illustrator does not support subsetted fonts, right?
