Font Antialiasing Bug?

Using the embedded font as follows:
@font-face {
src:url("SWFIT.TTF");
fontFamily: chooserFont;
<mx:Label color="#ffffff" fontFamily="chooserFont"
fontAntiAliasType="normal" fontSize="8" text="1"/> is displayed
in
this screenshot.
<mx:Label color="#ffffff" textAlign="center"
fontFamily="chooserFont" fontAntiAliasType="normal" fontSize="8"
text="1"/> is displayed in
this screenshot.
It appears that when you textAlign="center", the label blurs
the text. It does not appear to blur if you explicitly set it to
textAlign="left" or textAlign="right", but only when you set it to
center. You can download the font I am using at
http://www.orgdot.com/aliasfonts/swfit3.zip,
but the problem occurs in all of the fonts I've tried (three or
four different ones thus far).
Is this the correct place to be posting these things? I know
that Adobe folks float around and answer questions, but the footer
on the forums say it's for user to user interaction. Is there an
official place to be posting what we believe are bugs?

Eh...I found the
bug
report form. It's the same one as the feature request form :-D.
I guess the purpose of the post then was to see if anyone else has
found a fix for this, or in case someone else wanders into the
problem (maybe it'll save them some troubleshooting time).

  • [SOLVED] How to make small MS fonts antialiased?

    I have the ttf-vista-fonts package installed because I like fonts like Calibri. However, at font sizes under 15 pt, that font (and one or two others in the set) gets rendered without antialiasing on, which really grates on the eyes considering that the other fonts on my system are antialiased at that size. To make matters horrendously worse, anytime a ligature occurs in the text ("tt", "fi", etc.), those letter pairs are antialiased! I copied the calibri TTF files over from a Windows installation and they are indeed the same files as on Windows, where it antialiases all the way down to 8 pt and possibly lower. From this I know it's something in my configuration.
    What in my configuration is making this happen and what do I have to change to make this font antialias all the way down? Something in my fonts.conf maybe?

    Hi there
    I am hopeful that one of the Captivate team members can offer up some sage advice on this.
    I'm unaware of any setting in Captivate 5 that governs the anti-aliasing. I know they changed the manner in which text is rendered. Not sure if that's why you are seeing what you are, but it could have something to do with it.
    I would strongly encourage you (and anyone else encountering this) to consider logging this issue as a bug so that Adobe is aware of it and it will gain priority for a fix at some future point.
    Personally, I'm a bit surprised that your screen capture depicted the full word showing. My own Captivate seems unable to accomplish this and I see a truncated answer after selecting as shown below:

    Is there any way to get antialiasing in Word 2007 with Wine? Also I'm having some problems with bullets, they don't show up right. Maybe I'm missing a package for Wine or something?

    Font blurring - err, antialiasing - is done in Windows by way of ClearType. So, I'd try the ClearType PowerToy.

  • [Solved] Help needed with getting fonts antialiased.

    Greetings.  I'm in the process of installingArch and I must be missing something as fonts just aren't antialiasing.  Any help would be appreciated.  I'm using the Fonts guide on the wiki.  Here's the steps I did:
    pacman -Rd libxft
    yaourt -S fontconfig-lcd cairo-lcd
    pacman -S libxft-lcd
    Freetype is installed and I linked what I could to /etc/fonts/conf.d/:
    10-autohint.conf 40-nonlatin.conf 65-nonlatin.conf
    10-sub-pixel-rgb.conf 45-latin.conf 69-unifont.conf
    20-fix-globaladvance.conf 49-sansserif.conf 70-no-bitmaps.conf
    20-unhint-small-vera.conf 50-user.conf 80-delicious.conf
    29-replace-bitmap-fonts.conf 51-local.conf 90-synthetic.conf
    30-metric-aliases.conf 60-latin.conf README
    30-urw-aliases.conf 65-fonts-persian.conf
    I've tried changing settings in the KDE control center from "System Settings" to Enabled, started a new app.  But no luck.  I've created a basic ~/.fonts.conf that has antialiasing and hinting, logging out and logging in again to no avail.  What got me was that fontconfig didn't install a 10-antialias.conf:
    10-autohint.conf 25-unhint-nonlatin.conf 60-latin.conf
    10-no-sub-pixel.conf 29-replace-bitmap-fonts.conf 65-fonts-persian.conf
    10-sub-pixel-bgr.conf 30-metric-aliases.conf 65-khmer.conf
    10-sub-pixel-rgb.conf 30-urw-aliases.conf 65-nonlatin.conf
    10-sub-pixel-vbgr.conf 40-nonlatin.conf 69-unifont.conf
    10-sub-pixel-vrgb.conf 45-latin.conf 70-no-bitmaps.conf
    10-unhinted.conf 49-sansserif.conf 70-yes-bitmaps.conf
    20-fix-globaladvance.conf 50-user.conf 80-delicious.conf
    20-unhint-small-vera.conf 51-local.conf 90-synthetic.conf
    Is this the problem?  Obviously I'm missing a step here.  Any ideas, what do I need to do?

    Dallied through the thread and didn't find anything.  No luck thus far.  Looks like this is a system-wide problem as KDM in not antialiasing.  Change to a new ~/.fonts.conf:
    <?xml version="1.0"?>
    <!DOCTYPE fontconfig SYSTEM "fonts.dtd">
    <fontconfig>
    <match target="font" >
    <edit mode="assign" name="rgba" >
    <const>rgb</const>
    </edit>
    </match>
    <match target="font" >
    <edit mode="assign" name="hinting" >
    <bool>true</bool>
    </edit>
    </match>
    <match target="font" >
    <edit mode="assign" name="hintstyle" >
    <const>hintslight</const>
    </edit>
    </match>
    <match target="font" >
    <edit mode="assign" name="antialias" >
    <bool>true</bool>
    </edit>
    </match>
    <match target="font">
    <edit mode="assign" name="lcdfilter">
    <const>lcddefault</const>
    </edit>
    </match>
    </fontconfig>
    but the problem persists.  Argh, this is tough.  Did I possibly forget something?

  • CS4 nested pdf font encoding "bug"

    I receive many pdf artwork files daily. We process all art through InDesign.
    There is a "bug" with nested pdf files when exporting out of CS4. If PDF/X-4:2008 is used, the fonts render correctly. If any other setting is used, the fonts do not encode with Identity H and display incorrectly when viewed in Acrobat 8 or below. They do appear correct in Acrobat 9. The text appears as boxes in
    If Pitstop is used to outline the fonts in Acrobat 8 or below, they do outline correctly.
    If print to postscript through CS4, all text views correctly in all Acrobat version.
    These problem nested pdfs have intermittent output results through Heidelburg's prinect rips.
    The trouble I have is reproducing the issue. I cannot create a pdf and then nest it in another pdf to generate the problem.
    I do have a number of samples from different clients that have the issue. Some of those original pdfs were created in InDesign. None of these problems exist beforehand.
    Have anyone come across this issue and found solutions. (besides PDF/X-4:2008 setting)

    This issue is now fixed in the 6.0.4 update:
    An important update to the InCopy and InDesign products has been released today!

  • Font antialiasing in Terminal with Dual Screen setup

    I am reposting basically the same problem found here: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1472322 because I didn't find any solution browsing through the board.
    Basically the problem is this:
    1. Using only the laptop screen I have no problem. If I launch terminal with a single screen and then connect a second monitor I still have no problem.
    2. If I then quit terminal and relaunch it it's like the font loses some antialiasing, it's much more thinner.
    3. If I disconnect the second monitor it doesn't fix itself, I have to quit and relaunch terminal.

    Setting the gaming monitor as primary output with xrandr might also help, if you get it running again. Take a look at dmesg about any warnings or errors and what modules are loaded.
    I actually just started experimenting with DISPLAY, and it works how I want it to.  I'm going to play with that a little bit (write scripts to launch my programs on that screen) to get the result I want.  So, I think this issue is solved.  Thanks.

  • Second Display Menu Font sizing bug...

    A bug that's been around far too long has to do with menu text on the second display screen not adjusting when the custom identity font is changed (reduced in our case).  It would make sense for the font size to be the same on both displays.  The font size always stays the same on the second display.  Please fix this in version 3.

    I was able to reproduce the behavior on my machine and I will report it to R&D. Hopefully this issue gets fixed in one of the next releases.

  • Photoshop CC: Font size bug

    I have been working on a project today and suddenly I cannot change the font size anymore.
    If I select the text layer with the move tool and double click the layer in order to edit the text I cannot change the size of the font by pressing the up and down arrow keys. The only way to get this to work, is to select the text layer using the text tool, select all the text and then use the arrow keys.
    It has worked earlier today, so something must have caused this bug to happen. Can it be some fonts that I have installed?
    I have tried to restart my computer, I have reset all warning dialogs, I have reset the fonts in the font book to the default ones, I have reset the tools in Photoshop CC.
    Nothing works!
    Any ideas?

    It's a bug that appears after scaling text. Adobe knows about it. The work-around for now is to not Edit>Transform any text.
    Very annoying indeed.

  • Major font substitution bug in Illustrator CS5

    Hi all,
    This took me a good long time to track down, and since I didn't find any information here and Adobe technical support was no help, I figured I'd post the result. Happy new year.
    Here was the problem. Working in CS5, intermittently we would get font reflow issues. In addition, when going to edit the type boxes with font reflow, we would get the message, "This text was created in a different version of Illustrator. Editing the text may cause some changes to your text layout. Basic formatting will not be affected. Do you want to continue?" Please note it says "different version" rather than "previous version". These files originated and stayed in Ilustrator CS5! If we hit OK, the type would snap back to the original state!!! Worse, if the type was copied and pasted, or anything in character or paragraph styles was edited, it would snap back without ANY warning. Now you see it... now you don't. Major problem in any print environment.
    So here is what I found, and this is a CS5 exclusive. If you are working on a file and have a font set open which includes a font from one foundry, and then opened another document and activated a font set with an identical font from a different foundry (the original font closing), the kerning for the original document (in the background now) would be set to zero (rather than auto) and the font would reflow. If you didn't notice the reflow, and saved the file, well it would create the condition as described above. Of course it isn't ideal to have the font foundry change like that, but bottom line usually you could get away with it... maybe with one or two characters moving slightly. In the new CS5 world, Illustrator decides you really don't need ANY kerning pair information and then helpfully tells you it was a "different" version of Illustrator that caused this. Heh.
    What a mess. Bottom line, make sure your font management application is set to throw warnings when conflicting fonts are opened, and most importantly, leave the original font open! Do not allow the new font to be opened until the conflict is resolved.
    If your font management application does not have this option (Universal Type Server 1 did not), you better upgrade or forget about using Illustrator CS5 in a heavy production environment.
    Adobe, this was a major change and a major headache. You have some explaining to do...

    Confirmed this is being generated entirely in CS5. I opened the font Sabon. I created a text box. I pasted in some generic type I had just made in text edit. I changed the font to Sabon and the paragraph to justify. I saved and closed the document and closed Illustrator. I closed Sabon and opened Sabon from another foundry. I opened Illustrator and opened the document. All looked good. I duplicated the text box over and outlined the type. I went into the font manager and closed Sabon. I opened the original Sabon. DING! Type reflow. I saved as a second document. I copied the outlined type and closed the document. I opened the original document (note the original font is open). No problems. I paste the outlined type (type outlined with the wrong version of the font active) and it lands exactly in place. I open the second document. The type that reflowed now gives me the stupid message about another version of Illustrator screwing it up. I hit OK and the type reflows back to the way it is supposed to be.
    This proves that the kerning changes weren't due to differences between the fonts. This proves that Illustrator CS5 has a MAJOR type engine bug that could easily spell disaster in production.

  • Font Management Bug

    Been looking for a fix to this for a while but can't seem to find any answer, so here it goes. I've been dealing with a specific font management related bug since I updated to Lion. It's an issue involving FontExplorer X 1.2.3.
    If a font is activated on my system (via FontExplorer) and I am visiting a website unto which the same font is integrated via @font-face, the font will instead render a bunch of As inside a square in Safari 5.1, Times New Roman in Chrome 13.0, but it will render correctly in Firefox 5.0.1. Deactivating the font in FontExplorer and reloading the page will make it render correctly in all browsers.
    This said, I work in web design and it's been making my life horrible since I upgraded to Lion. I have tried emptying font cache, did not worked. Anybody else faced this issue and found a fix?

    Actually, I did. It mentionned cleaning font cache, emptying your font collection and starting over, and also that the problem seemed to involve system fonts. I tried cleaning my font cache with no results, same with emptying my whole font collection and re-importing it over. Also, the font I'm experiencing problem with is not a system font.
    Guess I'll just wait for a fix from Apple, and use Firefox for web developement in the meantime.
