Font has glyphs but cant display through drawString

I want to use this font (originally a mac font but edited and saved to use on PC) to display a String though Graphics.drawString().
I checked if the font contains any glyphs. It does: 221 in all checked through Font.getNumGlyphs().
     Font font = new Font("FontA",Font.PLAIN,12);
     String dispstr = new String(new char[]{(char)0x21});
     g.setFont(font);
     g.drawString(dispstr,0,0);I only saw an empty box. So I tried Font.canDisplay((char)0x21) and it returned false! I'm pretty sure there that character 0x21 does exist in that font by checking it in my os's charmap.
Any other means to check if this font can be displayed in my java application is of course greatly appreciated.

I checked the font's properties its encoding type is
Symbol. Could character encoding be the issue?Indeed, it was on how the font was saved!
The Font Properties Ext Tool at microsoft.com/typography/ shows more informative details on my font. Checking the font's properties, under the Charset/Unicode tab, the font's encoding type was 'Symbol', which I don't think Java supports. So I just resaved the font to ISO Latin1 encoding and installed that new ttf file to my systems font and the fonts finally appear!

IMac G5 has power but no display

I bought an iMac G5 iSight 17" from my neighbor thinking I could get it work, then afterward learn some more about Apple computers. It powers up fine but the screen is dark. I bought another lcd online for $100+, took the front panel off, and installed it but same issue is happening. One thing I did notice during re-assembly... the front plastic cover that slides off away from the lcd has 2 connectors on top: a thick one for the camera, and another 2-wire one that leads into a small round silver cylinder inside the top of the plastic cover (maybe a ground?). Anyway one of the two wires that go into the cylinder is broken. My question is what does this wire control? And could this be the reason neither of my displays works? Thanks for any help out there. I'm NEW to iMacs.

At this point I think your best bet is to take it in for servicing at the local service center.
As for your data, I think odds are that it is still in-tact. The type of failure you describe sounds more like a failed logic-board or possibly the power supply (improper voltage / low-voltage).
Most likely it's a failed logic-board. But, the power supply can cause these symptoms as well.
Neither would mean that your hard drive is bad. It's possible that it is, but it's not an automatic definite.
If it were only the hard drive that failed, then you'd get the grey Apple screen with a flashing question-mark.
So, what I would do, is request them to fix the computer. But, I would put a stipulation on it that requires them to call you if they are going to re-format or replace the hard drive.
This way you'll know in advance if they are going to erase your data. You could then decide whether to pay them to archive it onto another media or back it up for you, or just let it go.
Explain to them that you have information you are concerned about saving. And, request them to at least let you know if their repair process is going to require them to do anything that might erase the hard drive.
I think that's about the best you can do at this point.

Seriously need help but cant get through via phone

I am seriously needing help spend almost all week chatting with verizon via my verizon however nobody could come up with an answer for my problem it seems that I have been locked out of using the online payment option and the lady says it does not show that on her end I need this addressed asap but the lines have been down for days according to the store I just spoke with. is there someone in finance or billing that could call me? Take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. If the problem isn't solved, ask for further instructions.

3. In some versions of OS X, Parental Controls has a bug that prevents loading of secure websites. Turn it off.
4. The process by which OS X checks the validity of root SSL certificates doesn't work behind the authenticating SOCKS proxies used on some enterprise networks. If applicable, contact your network administrator. The proxy server may need to have its settings changed.

MSI 7512 1.1 Has Power but no Display

Hello guyz..
I have a weird problem here in my MSI Mainboard 7512 1.1...
As I turned on my Computer, the Computer Starts with no Display...
I have no problem with my VGA Card and Screen because I already tested it in other working PC's.
I tried to reset the Bios using the Clear Jumper in the Mainboard. And then It runs successfully...
On the next day When I powered on the Computer again the problem's back.
I tried to fix it by resetting the BIOS and It works back again...
Evey-time I turned on the Computer I need to reset the BIOS to make it run.
I already replaced the BIOS Battery. But It doesn't Help..
I hope someone could share a solution...

Facetime always connecting but cant get through

Why can't i use my facetime anymore on my the new ipad after updating to io6, its always saying connecting until it will drop.. And when i tried to sign in again the facetime it will tell you that the username and password is incorrect even if its not. Im in UAE. With you being in the UAE maybe the reason why facetime isn't working, as it has been restricted by the government.

when trying to preview different fonts in AI i am unable to scroll through them using the arrow keys, it just doesnt move... can anyone tell me whats wrong? im sure its pretty simple but i have no idea how to fix it...if it can be fixed... oh im using cs3 and a mac on os x leopard

you cant scroll through fonts in photoshop too. the scrolling stops on an item of the list (maybe photoshop has problem with it), and 1. in photoshop, you can't jump over it, you have to manually place the selection on the item after the one that blocked the scrolling, 2. illustrator will jump backward and you will keep scrolling about max 5-6 fonts over and over.
the font groups divided with lines are meaningless. it doesn't have any relation with regional keysets or any good reason.
a lot of unusable font f....d into the middle of the page.
i have to scroll over a dozens of unusable system fonts, what I cannot uninstall from Windows.
no font management at all.
and yes waiting for another 300$ upgrade too.
(plus another upgrade for a flash, because flash drawing tools didn't see upgrades in their whole lifetimes.
these tools are covered with bugs from top to toe. because nobody takes care of them. 300$ / 1bug.)

First try resetting the tool by clicking the tiny arrow at the far left end of the options bar and choosing reset tool.
But you should be able to use the arrow keys to navigate through the fonts, too.

I rented a movie via Itunes on my PC but half-way through the download recieved a "An unknown error has occured (-50)" notification. This is not my first rental, and I have verified my network and all connections to be good. Will I still be charged?

Did you figure this out? I haven't rented a movie in this new iTunes yet and saw one tonight I wanted to rent. Same fricken thing is happening to me. I hate this new iTunes, and I really hate that there are problems like this....why the heck do they have to fix something that isn't broken and break it? This just really stinks.

Thunderbolt display has power but no picture and no USB power

I've had my TB display working well with my Macbook for a while with no problems. This morning I started up the MacBook but the display didnt respond and the USB ports do not seem to be working. Keyboard and mouse both work when plugged directly into the MacBook but not when connected to the display. The MacBook is charging from the display so it has power, but nothing else seem to be working. Any ideas, or am I looking at taking it in to the local store for repair?

First try 'resetting' the Display by disconnecting it from mains for about 15 minutes and then plugging it back in. I've only had the problem that you describe once and this was the 'fix' for me.

Do a Spotlight for "iPhoto.app" and see what yo get. If that fails download and run Find Any File to search for a file with "iPhoto.app" in the file name.
FAF can search areas that Spotlight can't like invisible folders, system folders and packages. If the application is hiding somewhere on your hard drive FAF will find it.

.ttf font will install but displays improperly

Howdy.
II just downloaded a .ttf which installed all well and good. The problem is I need this font for use in Photoshop, but it displays improperly. The font itself is correct, but looks as though it's bold and over-saturated.
I did some quick troubleshooting and discovered that it works just fine in TextEdit. This problem isn't terribly important as I can just type what I need and then grab > paste it into Photoshop, but for curiosity's sake I'm interested in finding out how the problem can be remedied.

I made sure the 'Show Icon Preview' box was checked. This is about all I can do, really, Frank, as i don't know enough about the workings of these machines to start fiddling about.
Strangely the images show as previews in some folders, yet not in others, even though they come from the same sources (my camera and my phone).
