FONT problems with UNICODE - URGENT

i'm trying to present text in different languages, like english, greek or cyrillic and so on. i want to work with the Arial Unicode MS font, that is installed on my system and which DOES appear in the getAvailableFonts() list!!!
But when i try to display a greek text i see not all glyphs correctly. What have i to do??
Have I still to set up my font.properties file and if so how can i manage this
thanx a lot

To me, it looks as if your problem is that you're only calling setFont on "this".
That's only going to set it for the top level frame, and doesn't always do it for every individual component. The easy way to get around this is to go berserk with the setFont call. Set it on anything (heck, set it on your dog if it makes you feel any better)! ;D
The slightly harder but smarter way to do this is to write a recursive function that drills down your component list.
public void setFontRecursively(Font myFont, Component comp) {
   comp.setFont(myFont);
   if (comp instanceof Container) {
      Component[] childComps = ((Container)comp).getComponents();
      if (childComps != null) {
         for (int i=0; i < childComps.length; i++) {
            setFontRecursively(myFont, childComps);
That should basically cover anything bar popup menus and drop-down submenus. You have to recall this as they appear, or they don't get the font straight off.
Hope that helps!

    I am running Snow Leopard. Transferring the same texts to TextEdit has no problems, so this is a Pages problem, I think.  Corruption of Times New Roman and Arial fonts, I suspect, but where? and what do I do about it? I just need to be pointed to a source of advice, I think.
    Thanks

  • Fonts problem with iTunes

    Hey guys
    I have a font problem with iTunes... I get some vertical lines instead of letters... How do i fix this problem?
    Thanks

    Just a temporary glitch - removing fonts which aren't compatible solves the problem.

  • Font problems with RH 7.1 and JDK 1.3.1

    Hi there,
    I've read all post about this and looked at sun docs on how to add fonts. I've even replaced the fonts.properties with a new one I got from sun's page, but I can't make jdk 1.3.1 load the correct fonts for JDeveloper.
    Could anyone post here the steps to do it?
    I've also tried JDK 1.4.1 and for the moment everything works but some wizards, which I must run reverting to 1.3.1 JDK.
    Thanks,
    Ignacio

    To be honest, I managed to solve de problem getting the missing font from a Windows system (Ufffffff!!!!!). Now I don't get any font problems with JDK 1.3.1 but I find it very much slower than 1.4.1, and the problem is that JDeveloper wizards get weird in 1.4.1 and work OK in 1.3.1 ... let's hope Oracle releases a 1.4.1 ready JDeveloper soon.
    Thanks for your message.

  • Font problem with Montserrat and Maven Pro from google

    Seems like some fonts don't render as they should in Firefox 29.0.1. I tried to use google web fonts like Montserrat and Maven Pro, no problem with downloading but this fonts don't look good.
    I tried to install Montserrat to my Windows 7 (64) and deactivated css so that FF runs the font but same problem occurs.
    A really strange problem is that from my computer at work this fonts don't work from FF or Chrome, all versions of IE is fine.
    At home i have a laptop with same OS and version of FF and from home it works! But not Chrome..
    I have search on the net and at your support site but haven't find any answers yet.
    You can look at http://arenago.axiell.com for your self. Below is troubleshooting information from my version of FF where this problems occurs (Sorry about the Swedish)

  • Problem with unicode in MIME text/html

    Hi;
    I have a java program that sends email by sending it to our exchange server using SMTP. The email has both a To and a Bcc in the single email sent.
    The bcc addressee receives the email fine.
    The to address however has a problem with chars that are > 0x7f in the html. The html uses utf-8. But the displayed characters look as though the utf-8 part was ignored.
    Also weird, if I go to view, options in Outlook for the bcc email (which is good) it shows:
    MIME-Version: 1.0
    Content-Type: multipart/alternative;
    boundary="----=_Part_0_32437168.1135634913407"
    Return-Path: [email protected]
    X-OriginalArrivalTime: 26 Dec 2005 22:08:33.0366 (UTC) FILETIME=[E94D1F60:01C60A68]
    ------=_Part_0_32437168.1135634913407
    Content-Type: text/plain; charset=Cp1252
    Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable
    ------=_Part_0_32437168.1135634913407
    Content-Type: text/html; charset=Cp1252
    Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable
    ------=_Part_0_32437168.1135634913407--
    But for the to email (which has the problem), it only shows:
    MIME-Version: 1.0
    Content-Type: multipart/alternative;
    boundary="----=_Part_0_32437168.1135634913407"
    Return-Path: [email protected]
    X-OriginalArrivalTime: 26 Dec 2005 22:08:33.0366 (UTC) FILETIME=[E94D1F60:01C60A68]
    Does javamail do anything weird when it gets an email with a to and a bcc and split it up wrong? I just download and installed the latest mail.jar and activation.jar.
    thanks - dave

    OK...this didnt quite cure it for me...but having done this AND then this...
    MimeBodyPart htmlText = new MimeBodyPart();
    final String htmlStuff = "<?xml version=\"1.0\" encoding=\"utf-8\"?>"
    + "<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC \"-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN\" \"http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd\">"
    + "<html xmlns=\"http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml\" xml:lang=\"en\" lang=\"en\">"
    + "<head>"
    + "<title>Stuff.</title>"
    + "<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"application/xhtml+xml; charset=utf-8\"/>"
    + "</head><body>"
    + "<p>Currency Symbols: \u00A3\u00A2\u20A3\u20AC$<p>"
    + "</body></html>";
    DataSource htmlSource = new DataSource()
    private String stuff = htmlStuff;
    private Charset cset = Charset.forName("utf-8");
    public String getContentType() { return "text/html"; };
    public java.io.InputStream getInputStream() throws IOException
    return new ByteArrayInputStream(cset.encode(stuff).array());
    public String getName()
    return null;
    public OutputStream getOutputStream() throws IOException
    throw new IOException();
    htmlText.setDataHandler(new DataHandler(htmlSource));
    htmlText.addHeader("Content-Transfer-Encoding","base64");
    This works for me as shown by the Unicode chars in the html.
    If you intend to take this to production create a decent external DataHandler class and avoid the use of the anonymous class - which then avoids the need for the final String and the string can come from anywhere then.
    Hope this helps,
    Barry

  • HT1338 Font Problems with Snow Leopard

    I'm having font problems after updating to Snow Leopard.  It seems to have problems with spacing the fonts properly and reading some fonts properly in Page and Keynote.  Any suggestions of how to fix it?

    Dear Kurt,
    in bigger companies thinks come slow :-)  Actually we are switching from 10.4.11 with Quark 6.52 and FontReserve to 10.6.8 with Adobe CS5 and FontBook.
    And as you may guess we're running directly into the HelveticaNeue problem.
    We cleaned up the system fonts so that only the absolutly needed are in /Sys/Lib/Fonts/ and all other fonts (from MacOS and our own) are in /Lib/Fonts/ where they are in folders for better handling.
    The number of additional fonts were radically stripped down to the REALLY needed (about 70 fonts with their families).
    We removed the protected fonts and replaced Helvetica, HelveticaNeue, Times, Symbol and ZapfDingbats with PS Type1 fonts.
    Our goal was to have no font conflicts to keep our users save. In addition we put fonts in predefinded collections to switch them on/off with an AppleScript that picks the collection name.
    And from here it went fancy: The Apple apps are working fine but external app like Adobe CS5 and MS Office only see the fonts in /Sys/Lib/Fonts/.
    When we put the HelveticaNeue.dfont back (no matter if it's in the system or at ~/Lib/Fonts/) the other apps also get all installed fonts. We found out that this works even if the HelveticaNeue.dfont is deactivated.
    Unfortunately this brings up two problems:
    The HelveticaNeue.dfont can't be put to a font collection without taking the corresponding font from the Type1 font with it, so it's more difficult to handle with the AppleScript (we have to pick the exact single name).
    The second is that if something goes wrong and all fonts are switched to active we have a font conflict and the possibility that the dfont is used in documents.
    I think I have read all (ok, many :-) of your posts about the Helvetica problem in 10.6 as well as your really great document about font handling in OS X.
    But I wasn't able to get it to work.
    Do you have the one big hint for me???
    Thanks and best regards...      Udo

    FontExplorer™ X." it will not manage fonts for classic.
    (http://www.linotype.com/fontexplorerX/FAQ?issue=57&category=8)
    an upgrade for $50 to extensis suitcase fusion, does not support classic font management either.
    some info to try to make suitcase work.

    both the preview pane, and font cache are solutions to try.

  • Times Font Problems With PDFs

    Hello,
    I am having an intermittent problem with PDFs with Times fonts.
    Sometimes the PDFs print OK and other times words will be jumbled together or strange characters will take the place of certain punctuation marks. There are several other things that seem to happen, but I cannot remember every issue. Every time there is a problem, the PDF "Looks good on the monitor!".
    This happens on 10.3.9 and Os9 machines also.
    I have done Permission Repairs on a regular basis, cleaned my Font Caches, used FontFinagler etc.
    I have run Norton on the Os9 machines, taken all fonts out of ATM and put them back in, trashed Adobe prefs, etc.
    Sometimes this happens on PDFs from PCs, other times it happens on PDFs from Macs.
    All of the versions of Acrobat we are using are Professional versions with the latest updates, so that shouldn't be the issue.
    If anyone has any input on this, it will make my life considerably easier.
    TIA,
    David

    David,
    It sounds like the problem PDF docs did not have the fonts embedded into the docs when they were created originally, and the Times font on your computer is different. A couple of possible options, (a) ask the original creator to re-make the PDF doc with embedding the fonts, or (b) try re-writing the doc by doing a Save As... in Acrobat.
    Hope this helps.

  • Font problems with dreamweaver on Mac

    Hi, i installed dreamweaver cs3 as a part of web premium
    suite on intel mac os x 10.4.10. My international settings are set
    to Turkish. There are some oddities with fonts. Dreamweaver font
    list displays some fonts with CE suffix (Helvetica CE, Lucida
    Grande CE ...) but these fonts are not installed on my computer.
    How does dreamweaver displays these fonts? I checked the install
    log and couldn't find where these fonts are located. Other
    applications in the web premium package doesn't show these fonts.
    Also, dreamweaver is having problems with Turkish characters
    if I don't use these fonts. For example, I want to use default
    operating system fonts Helvetica or Lucida Grande (which have
    Turkish character support and works fine with Adobe Photoshop CS3
    and Illustrator CS3) in css font family but Dreamweaver can not
    display Turkish characters with these fonts. If I use Helvetica CE
    instead of Helvetica, Turkish characters are displayed without any
    problem but this is not an option because most people have
    Helvetica (not Helvetica CE). Previously I was using Dreamweaver MX
    2004 on windows and didn't have any problems with Turkish
    characters.

    Update,
    I have this type of code in the old pages on my body text I'm guessing it's because in most of my pages i.e. old dreamweaver mx days I've selected the text and formatted with the property inspector instead of css by mistake.
      <p><font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">text eh?
    </font></p>
    But I want them like this so i can change it all with css vs manually.
        <p>text eh?</p>
    So I've followed your advice and searched and replaced the former with the later on the dreamweaver template page and on a few individual pages, hoping that will allow me to eventually use css to adjust it all.
    I am very very tempted to do a global search and replace with changing
    this   <p><font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">
    to this <p>
    and this </font></p>
    to this </p>
    but I'm kinda worried if I don't do each page manually and test each one, all 148 pages, oh joy, and check something it  could bork my site in ways i'll take forever to find out and fix. Am I correct in worrying about this?

  • Fonts problem with forms on web

    Hi
    I have deployed an application developed in forms 6i on web. I have strange problem with Arabic fonts. When I browse the application from win'98 client PC I have no problems. When I browse the same with win2000 pro client PC, I have problem with fonts. Characters get displayed properly but they get displayed from left-to-right. Text on some buttons/display items is ok but some buttons/display items have above said problem in same form. Strange problem.
    Please help to overcome this problem.
    Thanks in advance
    Syed

    Hi again - i logged to metalink and saw, that there is a workaround for this.
    The problem is solved, when I edit the form's package and comment the RETURNING clause.
    It is simple for me, but if I give to other the ability to create forms, should I repair every of them ?
    Is there a patch for this ? The problem with dblinks and forms is old, isn't it ?
    Thanks for explanation.

  • Fonts problem with Smartforms...

    Hi Gurus,
    I have a problem with fonts in smartforms.
    My smartforms fonts are working fine in testing server but not working fine in development server. We work like after development we transport the object to stage (Testing) & then to production. I see the last modifications done were 1 st may 2008 but in development the last changes are shown 7th July 2008. So what I think is the object is not completely transported to testing server? What could be the other reason please let me know ASAP.
    Thanks,
    Hemal

    Hi Hema,
    May be the reason that your smartsyle is not activated .Jus check whether the smartstyle is activated and transported properly.

  • Font problems with Mavericks

    Since downloading to Mavericks I am having problems with fonts in certain programs. For example I have a font called Kabel which is showing in Font Book with no problems indicated, I can use this font in Quark XPress and other programs, but since upgrading to Mavericks the font is not appearing in Adobe Illustrator CS5. As there was no problem before, can anyone explain what the problem is and how I get round it.

    Just noticed that Kabel appears on our iMac which is running exactly the same version of Mavericks and CS5 but doesn't appear on our new MacPro

  • Font Problems with Safari

    I've been trying to fix this font problem I'm haveing. I go someplace like ebay and most of the fonts are fine but some fonts are not the ones I want. And when I go to the perfences nothing happens. Then I go to the font book and I can't find the font. I tryied to reset Safari and stills the same problem.
    Macbook Pro, Intel Imac, PowerMac Quad G5   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Back up all data.
    Launch the Font Book application and validate all fonts. You must select the fonts in order to validate them. See the built-in help and the support article linked below for instructions. If Font Book finds any issues, resolve them, then boot in safe mode* (by holding down the shift key at the startup chime) to rebuild the font caches. Boot again as usual and test.
    Mac 101: Font Book
    *Note: If FileVault is enabled under Mac OS X 10.7 or later, or if a firmware password is set, you can’t boot in safe mode.
