Fonts won't outline in Flattener

Hi,
I have an issue.
When I create PDFs in InDesign, sometimes (for font issues) I need to take the PDF into Acrobat Pro to outline the fonts.
When I have done all of the process, I can use the Flattener to outline the fonts and it works.
I have received a PDF from a client that won't go through our Platemaker RIP because of some font corruption.
They created it from Quark 7. I have tried the same Flattener settings that work for my PDFs, but the Fonts just won't outline.
It doesn't matter what I do in Acrobat Pro, the fonts just stay put.
Does anyone have any suggestions, apart from ask the client to outline the fonts their end?

only fonts that get flattened get outlined. if the text is not overlapping any other
part of an image it will not outline.
You can try adding an blank page as a transparent watermark (using the add watermark option in Acrobat) over the text, then flatten again.

  • Fonts won't load into Leopard Font Book

My fonts won't load into my font book, but they are loading into the system. I reloaded my OS software hoping it would fix the problem, but it hasn't. Anyone with suggestions on what to do would be greatly apprecitated!!!

My fonts won't load into my font book, but they are loading into the system.
That's kind of contradicting. Are you saying you can manually place the fonts into a Fonts folder and they'll work, but can't be added to Font Book? Or they aren't working at all? If they're Type 1 PostScript fonts, read on.
Type 1 PostScript fonts are a set. One file is a suitcase containing all of the low res bitmap screen fonts. The rest are the outline printer fonts. As an example, here's Adobe Garamond.
    Adobe Garamond
    AGarBol
    AGarBolIta
    AGarIta
    AGarReg
    AGarSem
    AGarSemIta
The first file which I highlighted in green is the font suitcase of bitmap screen fonts. The rest are the outline printer fonts.
    1) The files for a Type 1 PostScript font must have both the screen and printer fonts for a given set in order to work. They also must be in the same folder.
    2) The suitcase of bitmap fonts will work alone, but output will be terrible since the system will print the fonts using the 72 dpi screen fonts in the suitcase if the outline portions are missing.
    3) Having only the outline fonts will not work. You will get exactly what you are having problems with. You can see the fonts, but they will not load. That's not a problem with Font Book, Suitcase or other font manager. None of them, nor the system itself will load outline fonts without the matching suitcase of screen fonts present.

  • Fonts won't display in CS3-- particularly Photoshop & Illustrator

    Hello Everyone,
Thank you for any help you may be able to provide for this question.  Recently my laptop with my installed softwares crashed.  Luckily I was able to recover most everything and restored it on my newer iMac.
One of the few software that didn't play nice was CS3, so I had to re-install it.  Now, many of the fonts won't show up.  I'm doing a logo for a client and I need some fonts but fonts from the following- New Peninim, Corsiva Hebrew, Ariel Hebrew and/or Raanana-- don't appear after you engage the Type tool.  What shows up in both Photoshop and especially Illustrator is a square box with nothing in it.
I've gone to MANY of the help columns on line and followed 4 or 5 different "solutions"-- nothing seems to work.  I even, against my suspicions, called the Adobe customer service and the best they could offer was to post a question here if my answer was not apparent.
So, does anyone have an opinion on the matter?  Bearing in mind that I've put fonts in the Adobe folder, reset characters and a few other things since yesterday.
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
    Thanks,
    Andre

If you have the fonts installed and activated and they are not functioning, you may need to clear your font caches.
Are you using any font management software?  Can you confirm that the fonts are active?  If you're not aware of any font management, open up Font Book (applications -> Font Book) and see if you see the fonts in there.  If they are in the list, are they active?  If they are not in the list, you need to add them there (I think just by dragging them from the finder) and activate them.  Not being a Font Book user I'm not sure, but you may need to restart Illustrator to see the newly activated fonts.
If you don't have the fonts active, your type will be displayed in the default font (Myriad, unless you changed it) which likely doesn't have the hebrew characters, thus all you see is the squares indicating missing characters.

  • Problem with fonts converted to outlines

In CS5, when I convert a font to an outline.  The stroke and fill is lost and is no longer editable.  Obviously, in this instance, I need to edit both in the resulting outlines, but am unable to do so.  Anyone have any help to offer?

Do you still have the vector paths after creating outline?
If so then create a graphic style(to save all your strokes/fills, then convert to outlines, then apply the graphic style.
You may have these appearance attributes asssigned on the type(on some strange combination of charachter, type, group level), but after it going to outlines Illustrator gets confused and assigns none.
If you have vector paths you could reassign your file & stroke attribute, then graphic style will just back up your hard work.

  • Din font won't display in pdf file since December update to version 11.0.10

I upgraded my Acrobat to version 11.0.10 just before the Christmas break. Din font is my corporate typeface and I used it yesterday to create an invoice in Mac Pages only to discover that I cannot view the pdf as the font won't display in Acrobat. And to add to the problem my clients who are using the same version of Acrobat are unable to view the font either on the pdf. It all worked fine before the upgrade.
What can be done to rectify the problem? I need to fix this asap.
This error message appears when I try and open the file "Cannot extract the embedded font 'DQPJNL+DIN-Medium'. S"
The DQPJNL bit changes depending on the file being opened but essential Din font won't display.

    Hi,
Please check if DIN font is embedded in your PDF by going to File > Properties > Fonts
If no, then you might need to go to 'Tools > Print Production > Preflight'
Then, open the PDF fixups section, click on Embed fonts fixup and choose 'Analyze and fix button'.
Please check and let me know if you are able to view the font now.

  • Fonts won't activate in Mac OS X 10.4.6

Ever since I performed a Mac OS X combo update (10.4.6) my fonts won't activate in Suitcase 10. Here is the statement that shows up when I try to activate a font: "There are fonts in the suitcase Armada that conflict with fonts in the System Fonts Folder. You must remove the fonts from the System Fonts folder and restart before you can activate these fonts with Suitcase."
I did not have this problem before I updated from 10.4.4 to 10.4.6. The System fonts folder does not have a conflict or any fonts that don't belong.
I went to the Extensis help site and deleted the font cache files as suggested. Still not working. Any ideas?
    PowerMac G4 933Mhz   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Is your Armada font a single PostScript font, or is it a TrueType suitcase? If it's the latter, there may be multiple fonts in the suitcase. The 10.4.x combo updates put a modified version of Courier into the /System/Library/Fonts/ folder. If your Armada font contains a copy of Courier, that would be the conflict.
Do you have any way of examining the contents of the suitcase? If you have it (you can also download a trial copy), open the font with Font Doctor. You would launch Font Doctor and then press Command+D. Click on the button (either one) that says "Open Font Suitcase File". Choose the Armada font. If there are multiple fonts in the suitcase, you will be able to see what they are.

  • Some fonts won't import into font book

I am importing fonts, ttf files, into Font Book from the Vault of the discontinued font manager Fontcase. A few have brought up error messages, and I do not import them. But many more, maybe 20%, simply do not get imported; no error message appears. Some are a decade or more old, but all are ttf files and were imported into Fontcase without difficulty, back when.
Same thing happens whether I drag the fonts into FB or double click on the ttf file itself and click Import.
Why might this be, and what can I do about it?
    Using Font Book 5.0.1, OS X 10.9.4.
    Thanks for any suggestions.

From Kurt's excellent article (linked below).
Fonts which cannot be used in OS X:
Apple bitmapped fonts from OS 7.5 and earlier
Linux Type 1 PostScript - Paired fonts with .pfa and .afm extensions.
Type 3 PostScript - A fairly short lived PostScript variant. They allowed for the full use of the PostScript language such as shading, color and fill patterns. However, they lacked hinting, an important typography attribute. Obsolete.
Old, very old third party bitmapped fonts. Way back before TrueType or Type 1 PostScript fonts. There were no outline vector fonts for printing. Each point size for a typeface had to be built as a high resolution bitmap file from a companion program, or purchased separately. Good riddance.

  • One font won't export

Hi, all. Sorry if this is basic--I'm just a simple artist-designer, and am less skilled at software management and presets.
I just reinstalled my ID CS4 on a new-to-me machine running OSx Mountain Lion. For an unknown reason, the software now won't export the Helvetica Neue Regular font (all other fonts in the typeface are FINE.) 'Regular' exports as lines of boxes. HNeue has been my go-to for many years, and I'd rather not reformat all of my old stuff. Thoughts?
HNeue Regular shows up in fontbook, and I already tried 'restore system fonts.' Also set "Subset all Fonts" to 0%. I have no idea what this means, but the internet told me to do it.
Thanks for your ideas. This is really messing me up.
    Emily

Saw this post and thought it can be easily fixed but I haven't worked on a Mac for about 10 years. I'm sure there's someone that can help.
The only thing I would suggest trying is disabling it in your Font Management and copying the font to your system Fonts folder.

  • CS5.1 Missing fonts - converted to outline

Hello, I have PC with Adobe Master Suite CS5.5 installed.
    Problem:
I had to open eps file, where is font Obelix Far East, which I don't have and needs to be replaced to Myriard.
When I open this eps, all Obelix's words are automaticaly converted to outlines.
    original:
    CS5.5 - immedatelly after opening:
Is any way to prevent convert words? I can see it first time, because before CS5.5 I used only CS4 and there was no problem with this. I simply replaced missing font for the known one and that's it...
Thank you very much for any idea.
    Regards...Ilja

like maybe I hit some odd key command that made it all go away but I've been unable to get anywhere.
Yes that is the case, you accidentally must have hit the cmd + T key and now you have set Bridge to show only thumbnails.
Under the menu view you will see a checkmark in front of the option: "show thumbnail only" . Click on it again to deselect or hit again cmd + T (on a Mac) and you get back to the normal situation

  • Fonts won't stay

I just downloaded Thunderbird 24.5.0 three days ago and have spent the past three days researching forums, help topics, etc and cannot find a fix to fonts that won't stay put. On both my outgoing and incoming message the fonts default to something incredibly small, probably size 8. My old eyes just can't read this small size. I need a font which is size 12 (probably Times New Roman) and that will be the default for what messages I compose and for what messages I read. Any advice is greatly appreciated as this issue is a deal breaker and I truly want to keep Thunderbird. Thanks!

Sander G, yes, that block is unchecked. Thanks for your response.

  • Cambodian fonts won't work in inDesign CS5

Hi! I am unable to get inDesign to replicate correct Cambodian fonts. I've downloaded a wide variety and though they are correct in word, they do not work in inDesign, the differences are very small, a few missing characters, incorrect symbols, etc.  I've attached a photo of what the font should look like (top) and what it comes through as in inDesign (bottom).  Look at line two, in inDesign note the missing j-like symbols and crosses that don't belong but are replacing something else. I feel like I've tried everything and nothing is working. Please help, I would greatly appreciate it!!

First, he sent it to me in the Khmer OS font and I got the missed characters and odd symbols in inDesign. Second, he re-wrote it and sent it to me in the Kh Moul font with the same results on my end.
Long story short - Unicode fonts like the KhmerOS font should work if the world-ready composer is on. I don't recognize "Kh Moul" but you can test to see if it should work. If you open up the Glyphs menu (Type -> Glyphs) and pick the Cambodian font of your choice, and then hold the mouse over a character, it should report the name of the character in a mouseover popup. If you see something like "LATIN CAPITAL LETTER OE" or something like that, or no character name at all, it means it's a bad font and cannot be trusted in InDesign. Most of the Cambodian fonts I've seen are font-hacks like this (where the English letter is erased and replaced with a Cambodian character). I've made those work in the past, but it usually requires editing the font.
Double whammy, I also need to make this work for chyron (television graphics). I'm hoping if I figure out inDesign, it will use the same fix.
The World-Ready Composer turns on some features of InDesign that allow it to support complex scripts like Cambodian, if the font is constructed correctly. It's a feature of InDesign, so if it works, you won't be able to assume that it will work in any other application. I searched the Chyron knowledge base and found nothing, but nothing, about Unicode or complex script fonts or anything like that. You'll probably need to make images of your text, so you will need to find out the target specifications from whomever is setting this up for you. If you have that spec but don't know what to do with it, I'm sure that we can help you figure out how to spit a file out of InDesign that the teevee people will be able to use.

  • Custom fonts won't load

    Hello!
One of my users got CS6 installed a while ago, along with some custom fonts our company uses (called Bliss fonts). I installed the fonts myself, going through the windows Fonts folder - Add fonts. But Photoshop won't load in the fonts. They are nowhere to be found in the fonts list, and when the user opens a picture that contains the font and he tries to edit it, it says that the fonts are not available and PS will do a font substitution.
I've tried reinstalling the fonts, renaming (adding .old) to some maps accociated with PS (it was about corrupted files, something I found around here) but that didn't solve it either. The fonts are readily available in other programs such as Word and PPT. Does anyone have any tips? We're running WinXP if that's any help.

Your fonts do not contain proper identification info/ redundant identification info that matches anotehr font and Adobe programs therefore ignore them/ hide them for safety. This needs to be rectified in the font files themselves using a font editing software. Happens a lot when some lazy font designer just slapped in the company logos into a standard font and didn't edit all that stuff...
