NLS_LANG can only be set at OS level: as env. var. in UNIX/Windows and as registry setting in Windows.
    See OTN NLS_LANG FAQ http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/globalization/nls-lang-099431.html.
For example in Windows 7 if I want French settings and keep same character set:

  • Where can we find information on date and time for rollback on Oracle 11g ?

Like to find out which log Oracle writes to in order storing information about rollback that is performed. I have an issue wherein, I believe a rollback has occurred after external reports have been generated... hence, the report no longer has the correct information on the state of the system. However, I need to confirm that this is what happened, as I couldn't explain why transactions that were performed prior to the reports were not on the system, yet it was reported in the transaction report. Thank you.

You should be able to find some rollback information in redo logs with LogMiner: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e17110/dynviews_2035.htm#i1408263.

  • Oracle 11g - Memory used for sorting

    Hi everyone,
I would like to know how I could analyze memory used for sorting in Oracle 11g. When I run the below query, it returns 1531381.
select value from v$sysstat where name like 'sorts (memory)';But when I check sort_area_size parameter from v$parameter, it returns 65536. Does it mean my database is using more memory for sorting than sort_area_size. Or is the way I interpret v$sysstat view and sort_area_size wrong? What is the best way to monitor the memory usage for sorting? Thanks in advance.

    check the valuse of pga_aggregate_target
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14237/initparams157.htm
    Note:
Oracle does not recommend using the SORT_AREA_SIZE parameter unless the instance is configured with the shared server option. Oracle recommends that you enable automatic sizing of SQL working areas by setting PGA_AGGREGATE_TARGET instead. SORT_AREA_SIZE is retained for backward compatibility.
What is the best way to monitor the memory usage for sorting? try v$sort_usage
    or v$tempseg_usage
    col sid_serial for a44
    col size for a22
    col SID_SERIAL for a22

  • Oracle 11g unreasonable large data file that can't be shrunk

I got this Oracle 11g installed on my win7 just for running my local application. In the Enterprise Manager the "USERS" tablespaces shows over 12g for allocated size, about 1g for Space Used(also see the table snippet below), only about 8% of space is used. However, when I tried to shrink the data file/space even to half of its current size, both from command line(resize) and Enterprise Manager, i got the error that says "Failed to commit: ORA-03297: file contains used data beyond requested RESIZE value ". I was able to resize my TEMP tablespace successfully with the same command.
Any insight on this? thanks a lot. I'm about to run out my hard drive space.

You have an object stored at the end of the datafile, you will need to move it down the file (or to another tablespace) before you can shrink the file. I though OEM had a "tablespace map" feature to help you see what objects were located where but if not, see:In EM (or 10g dbconsole, at any rate), you select a tablespace, drop down menu Show Tablespace Contents, then there is a tablespace map icon to expand the map. It can be slow. Then you can scroll down to the bottom, scroll up and look for where the last non-green extents are. Also, you can find the beginning of datafiles (if you have multiple data files in the tablespace) by watching for purple header blocks. Hovering over the segments gives information, and clicking on them (or selecting segments in the contents list up above) shows where all the extents are in yellow. I haven't tried the reorganize link...

  • Oracle 11g client latest

    Hi
Please give the oracle support document or link with instructions for installing
Oracle 11g client (latest version) on windows server 2008 64 bit.
Please also give the link for downloading the oracle 11g client too.
    Many thanks

    Hi
I did the full installation of the database 11g R2 using the universal installer. So the client dlls and database dlls will be installed in the same location?(oracle home\bin) or will it be separate locations?how will i check this? Its just a matter of pointing the path settings to the client dlls for our app to run correctly, as no separate client installation will be needed then.
Another question related to this is,
we have got a few clients who use 10g database who import our data to their 10g databases.
We used to use 10g exp utility before.
Now, its documented that the 11g exp utility wont import to 10g database.
So if we have to use 11g (not installing 10g at all on our side), expdp instead , what should be the value of VERSION parameter to be used?COMPATIBLE or specific version?(Different customers are different versions of 10g yet single application running export)?
    Thanks&Regards..
