Force Copy to a local Folder

I have a workgroup accessing a large XSAN and Sharing files. It is quite common that users wish to post a copy of a file in a different folder for other users to access. Because it is a single volume, dragging files between locations results in a "Move".
Of course by holding the Option key while dragging will create a Copy but that leaves the choice up to the User, and mistakes are made.
I am looking for the best way to assign a local Folder a Property that will force a Copy to any file dropped onto it.
Thanks,
OSX Server10.6.8

This works as a simple case:
mount volume "afp://APEx.local"
set sf to POSIX file "/Volumes/Net Drive/Test"
set df to POSIX file "/Users/frank/Desktop/tmp"
tell application "Finder"
  duplicate every item of folder sf to folder df
end tell
Notr that the destination folder must exisit already

  • Copy emails from local folder to an IMAP folder on the computer?

    The title really doesn't describe what I want to do, sorry.
    My mum's Mini runs 10.7.5 and she uses Mail to read her Gmail account. Until now she's used POP to access and download emails but I've now set up IMAP.
    She has three local mailboxes on her computer - totalling some 1,5GB - which I would like to turn into Gmail mailboxes (i've already created the Labels in Gmail). I could copy the messages from these POP mailboxes to the IMAP boxes (both accounts are currently active in Mail) but that would eat up all of my mum's 3G broadband internet allotment.
    Is there anyway to circumvent this? What happens if I copy the local mailboxes in ~/Library/Mail/V2/Mailboxes to the IMAP folder in ~/Library/Mail/V2? Will that simply tag the messages or will that also move them across the internet connection?
    Could I use some Mail app rules or such which would be recognised by Gmail as labels?
    Thanks in advance for any insight. I have a feeling I will have to move the messages across the net but thought I should ask first.
    Many thanks

    Hi,
    I had tried using that very same extension right after messing things up, but it hadn't worked because I deleted the original folders as well.
    Then I tried doing a System Restore (luckily, Windows had decided to do an automatic one the night before), but still the missing emails weren't showing.
    A while after that I saw your suggestion and it hit me that I had not tried it after doing the System Restore, so I tried it and all messages were flooding back just like magic.
    Thank you very much for your help! I'm very happy right now.

  • Copy database file local folder is not working in 11g

    Hi,
    i am working on oracle forms 11g.
    the follwoing code is not working. could any one guide me to reslove the problem.
    declare
         lv_file_name varchar2(100);
         lv_command varchar2(200);
    begin
         lv_file_name := substr(:parameter.image_path,instr(:parameter.image_path,'\',-1)+1);
         lv_command := 'cmd /c copy_file '||:parameter.image_path ||' s:\temp\deposit\scanned_image\'||lv_file_name;
         client_host(lv_command);
         if form_success then
              message('saved..');
         else
    message('file copy process failed..');
         end if;
    end;

    Also, copy to the s: drive might not work. In your copy_file script you need to define the s: drive first
    net use s: \\some_shareor use UNC notation
    lv_command := 'cmd /c copy_file '||:parameter.image_path ||' \\some_share:\temp\deposit\scanned_image\'||lv_file_name;Oh, and use full path to copy_file:
    lv_command := 'cmd /c c:\some_directory\copy_file.bat '|| etc.;Edited by: InoL on Mar 11, 2013 9:20 AM

  • Any single file in my local folder of RoboHelp 10 which can be copied onto the application server?

    Pleasant Hello Pals, ( This is Vipin Nambiar from Bangalore)
    I am currently evaluating Adobe Robohelp 10 version for one of my technical architecture writing. Requesting help at the very earliest for the below-said big time hurdles.
    I have completed my technical writing for a in-house application system and have generated and viewing the primary layout (courtesy File -> View -> Primary Layout. ) as Contents, Index, Glossary and would like these to be hosted onto the server so that all the users of this application can access these Contents, Index, Glossary and act as a knowhow notes to use this application.
    Is there any single file in my local folder of Adobe RoboHelp 10 which can be copied onto the application server ?
    (My Adobe RoboHelp 10 local folder contains
    a.)Sub-folders called !Language!, !ScreenLayout!, !SkinSubFolder!, !SSL!
    b.)File Types called *.ALI File, *.APJ File, *.Bitmap image, *.BRS File, *.Cascading Style Sheet Document, *.CPD File, *.FPJ File, *.GIF image, *.GLO File, *.H File, *.HHC File, *.HHK File, *.HHP File, *.HTML Document, *.HTT File, *.JPEG image, *.JScript Script File, *.LDB File, *.PPF File, *.PSS File, *.Robohelp HTML Project File, *.SSL File, *.XML Document)
    Any help here will serve me in plentious

    First, your username cannot be changed and it is not a good idea to have email addresses visible on any forum, unless you enjoy reading spam.
    This question is covered in the online help. When you create an output it is generated to whatever folder you specify in the single source layout. Everything that is in that folder needs to go on the server.
    If the help is in !SSL! > WebHelp, then everything in that folder including sub-folders is what needs to go on the server.

  • IMAP messages not downloading to local folder?

    Hi. I've just switched from an iBook G4 to my new monster, MacBook Pro. However, I've run into a problem:
    I'm using an IMAP account in Mail, hence there was no problem getting all my emails to my new computer, as they were all located on the server. However, on my iBook, I stored some of the emails locally as they were too big to store on the server over time. To get them downloaded to a local storage, I simply dragged the messages from my IMAP-folder to my local folders in Mail. I thought this deleted the messages from the IMAP-account and stored the complete message (including attachements) locally. However, now it seems like I was wrong. I've tried to import all the locally stored messages into my new Mac Book Pro, but Mail refuses to import them, even though they're in mbox-format. Then I tried to upload them to the mailserver from the iBook, and then download them to the MacBook Pro. This sort of worked, but then the messages appeared as they were all blank. To me, it seemed like only parts of the messages were downloaded when I first dragged them over to my local folders? So basically, I'm wondering if anyone can give me a hint on what causes this? Am I doing something wrong when I'm trying to download it to a local folder? I'm suspecting this might be the reason, as it seems like I'm using much more storage space on my mailserver than I can find any reason for. Any suggestions? Thanks a bunch!
    MacBook Pro, Intel Core Duo 2.33 GHz, 17"   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   2GB RAM

    David,
    Sorry for not being more specific in my last post. It had been a while since I tried to import, so I trusted my memory on what happened. Obviously a mistake
    Anyway, I've now tried to import once again, and you're right, they are in fact .mbox-folders, not files. Also, I've always tried to select the mbox-folder itself, or files within the mbox-folder. What I did wrong, as you pointed out, was that I did not select the folder which contained the mbox-folders.
    Now, after I imported using your instructions, everything worked like a charm. I got all my emails imported Thanks a million!
    I have one last question, though: To store emails locally instead of on the server, I've always dragged them onto a local folder. Is this the correct way of doing it? Will the emails on the server (which I store locally) be deleted, or will I just get a copy of them stored locally?

  • How do I move all the messages and folders in `Local Folder' to my main account folder? The stuff in local is from importing from Outlook

    I imported my mail from Outlook and they went to Local Folders. I want them in the main folder section for my account. How do I move them there?
    At the moment I have to create each folder and then copy the contents from one folder to the other - crazy, and I have dozens of folders

    As Chgrist1 said, that is how it works. Having looked as how Outlook stores mail, and everything else. It is a wonder anything ever comes out that is useable. PST files are a mess. First thing they do is pull the email apart and store header, body and attachments is three different places.
    You will also find (most likely) that your accounts in Outlook were POP and the default in Thunderbird is IMAP. merging IMAP and POP files and folders is fraught with difficulties and dangers. It would be a brave developer that tried that in an import.
    In the case of IMAP all your mail is one the server, so import is not all that important. However copying a gigabyte or two of of outlook mail into your imap server could exhaust your available message storage space there and cause the import to fail completely.
    So If you want to do what your saying, first confirm that your not using IMAP mail. Otherwise your experience is most likely going to be exceedingly poor.
    If you are using POP mail, then changing the setting in your pop account to cause it to use the global inbox will make a single mail account appear, "Local Folder", with your outlook mail as a sub folder of that.
    Dragging a folder from the imported outlook tree to Local folders is not difficult, as long as you remember that folders hang of other folders, so your dragging them to a parent, not a position on the screen you like.

  • How do I create a repo on a local folder

    I use FaunOS which is a live version of Arch.  The build is somewhat outdated but at any rate,
    Sometimes I need to install or upgrade a package for a session, but do not necessarily need to save it in the squashfs overlay.
    i copied the files out of /var/cache/pacman/pkg into a local folder.  I can do something like
    pacman -U /path/file/*
    but this is kind of ugly, as I have to make sure I clean the cache between installing different apps and copying them to an appropriately named folder so I don't end up installing a whole bunch of things I don't need, hence taking up the live memory.
    I know there is a way to do call pacman o install a file and just its dependencies from a local folder by somehow telling it that the folder is a repo, but I forget how, and posting to the FaunOS forums has been down for some time.

    My system uses ....pacman --cachedir /mnt/md/upgrade....
    I have a raid0 array of three Compact Flash cards which have combined read speed of 133MB/s and 22MB storage space.  These are combined and accessed in /mnt/md (using mdadm soft raid).
    This system is in use in FaunOS and in x86_64 on the same machine.
    In addition to the pacman files, I also have pix and video files and some seldom used folders with pacman packages which include depends and are addressed when needed.
    The key to the arrangement is the ...--cachedir.. as provided by pacman.  The files are .pkg.tar.gz and are installed with pacman -U (package .tar.gz)
    In FaunOS, this installs the package in ram via aufs but does not retain the package in reboot unless "save" is enabled.
    I have had this system for four or more months now and use it a lot.
    I hope this info is helpful................

  • RSRT: Error in Exporting File to Local Folder

    Hello Kumar,
    Use the transaction RSRT2 (this will force the HTML display mode)
    You will see some extra buttons as Export to CSV and Export to Excel.
    Use these options. It should work. Otherwise, let me know the error message, if occurs.

  • Import photos without copying? I Have thousands of photos on a hard drive separate from my mac and i dont have enough space on my mac to copy them to. Any way to import without copying to the local hard drive?

    Import photos without copying? I Have thousands of photos on a hard drive separate from my mac and i dont have enough space on my mac to copy them to. Any way to import without copying to the local hard drive?

    Yes, but you might want to think carefully about it.
    A Referenced Library is when iPhoto is NOT copying the files into the iPhoto Library when importing. The files are then stored where ever you put them and not in the Library package. In this scenario you are responsible for the File Management.
    This is an attractive option for some users at face value, but it contains a significant number of issues that you might want to consider before making the decision to run a Referenced Library
    How to do it:
    iPhoto -> Preferences -> Advanced and uncheck the box at 'Copy items to the iPhoto Library'
    Now when you import iPhoto makes an alias in the Library Package that points to the stored file. Note: iPhoto still creates a thumbnail of the image and it makes a Preview of edited photos inside the Library Package.
    Issues?
    1. You are responsible for file management. That's more work:
    You must first move the files from your camera to the storage location before importing.
    If you want to delete files then you must first trash them from iPhoto and then afterwards find them in your storage and trash them.
    Thereafter, you cannot move the files on early versions of iPhoto at all, on iPhoto 08 and later you may move them on the same Volume or Disk. If you move them to a new volume or disk the aliases my break. If they are on an different volume and you move them the aliases will break.
    You cannot rename the files.
    Migrating: moving to a new machine, moving the files to another disk are all a lot more complex.
    2. You gain no extra functionality from running a Referenced Library. Nothing. This is just storage. You still manage the files via iPhoto. You edit them with iPhoto or via iPhoto's External Editor setting, otherwise you're changes will not be available in iPhoto. You don't save  byte of storage space.
    3.  If you have the Library on one volume and the photos on another you if anything changes in the path to a file (Like if you upgrade your machine, move the files on the NAS or on to another one?) then the alias will break, and you'll have to repair it manually. For every photo in the Library. One at a time.
    Why do you want to run a Referenced Library?
    Because my photos won't fit on my HD?
    You can run a Managed library from an external disk. Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.
    You're worried about accessing the files?
    There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:   You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Command-Click for selecting multiple pics.
    (Note the above illustration is not a Finder Window. It's the dialogue you get when you go File -> Open)
    You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
    There's a similar option in Outlook and many, many other apps.  If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
    If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
    If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running:
    For users of 10.6 and later:  You can download a free Services component from MacOSXAutomation  which will give you access to the iPhoto Library from your Services Menu.
    Using the Services Preference Pane you can even create a keyboard shortcut for it.
    For Users of 10.4 and 10.5 Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
    Other options include:
    Drag and Drop: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    File -> Export: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    Show File:  a. On iPhoto 09 and earlier:  Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.    3.b.
    b: On iPhoto 11 and later: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Reveal in Finder -> Original. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.

  • Unable to transfer an entire local folder to Inbox

    To transfer a local folder to an inbox I usually can simply drag the folder from the 'Local Folders' section up to '[email protected]' and it will begin copying the emails to the server. However every time it hits email 377 it errors out saying that the email cannot be parsed. I need some information as to how to identify which email is 377 as there are many conversations/emails back and forth in the folder. There seems to be no way to transfer the folder any other way that I know of. Is there a way to fix/properly parse this email other than deleting it?
    It's also worth noting we do not manage the mail server and have no way to drop the local folder there on the server side.

    I don't like dragging folders in Thunderbird. I don't know what's supposed to happen. I don't see any formal descriptions of how/if this functionality is implemented.
    If it's using IMAP then it would be most unusual for Thunderbird to be unable to create a folder on the server.
    Try this: go to your Inbox, right-click and select "New Folder" or "New Subfolder" as appropriate. Then open your folder in Local Folders, select the required messages, use right-click and "Move to" and select the required folder in the account.
    Do you have no access to the mail account via webmail, i.e. via your browser?

  • Download all excel files from sharepoint location to local folder

    Hi,
    How to I copy all excel files stored at sharepoint location to local folder?
    Regards,
    Nidhi

    Hi NidhiP,
    To download Excel files from a SharePoint library by using SSIS, we need to make use of the Script Task. In the Script Task, we can use the methods provided by
    Lists Web Service to work with SharePoint files, and then use the
    WebClient.DownloadFile Method or
    FileStream Class to transfer the files from SharePoint to local file system.
    For the code examples, please refer to:

  • Does itunes automatically copy files to its folder?

    If I download music from a website to my desktop, and then doubleclick the icon on my desktop, it starts playing in itunes. But it also looks like it saves a copy of the file in the itunes music folder. Can i just safely delete the files off my desktop now (and still play the music in future) because they have been automically copied into the itunes folder?
    Also, is there a way to turn this feature off, so that I can still play the music by clicking on the icons on the desktop, but itunes doesn't automatically copy the files into its folder?

    Hi Jeff,
    iTunes does put a copy of the song in your Music Folder, and yes, you can delete the file off your Desktop as soon as it opens in iTunes, I'll take a minute now to see if you can turn off the automatic copying feature.
    Edit:
    You can turn off the auto-copy setting by going to iTunes-Preferences-Advanced-uncheck the box next to "Copy files to iTunes Music Folder when adding to library"

    I have to programatically save multiple pictures (jpeg) from the folder on my PC into Oracle table LOB column. I have to be able to choose local folder on my PC where are the pictures, and press button on Oracle Forms to save pictures in LOB column in database.
    I'm using Forms 6i and Oracle 10g Rel2 database.
    Is this possible with Oracle Forms or the only way to do that is to use create directory database command and use dbms_lob package which I shouldn't do, because Oracle database directory is not allowed to see my local folder.

  • Saving data to local folder

    Hi, I am new using LiveCycle and this question would seem stupid but I create a form to enter clients data. I need to submit that data to a folder located in the same computer as an XML format. How can I set up the submit button to save the data in that local folder?
    Thanks in advance.
    Edmundo

    You woudl not submit to your own machine. You can add a button to save the data locally. Put a normal button on the form. In the click event add this javascript code:
    xfa.host.exportData("", false)
    This will bring a dialog up and allow the user to choose the location and filename of the data file. If you do not pass parameters then the default extension of XDP will be used. By passing the false param then you are asking for a file extension of XML. In either case you are saving xml data it is just the extension that will change.

  • Help Fetching files from an FTP server into a DBase or local folder

    Hello Gurus!
    I need help to automate or design/write an app capable of (replace a manual process) reading log files in an ftp server folder, this log files are called CDR (Call Detail Record) and named as follow cdr.txt.20020221010000 meaning that this log file was created on 2002/02/21 at 01:00:00.
    This CDR log files are generated every hour by a Lucent telephone switch using a software/program called EXS ExchangePlus in ASCII format (fixed length delaminated, Char data type). EXS ExchangePlus writes a record in this CDR/log files after the call is completed, i.e. Calling_Number, Called_Number, Date_connect (yyyymmdd), Time_connect (hhmmss), Charged_time (hhmmss, duration of the call), and so on.
    The manual process I am using now is:
    1. Log in the ftp server into the folder where the CDRs log files are, located the latest generated CDRs log files and downloaded them into a local folder/directory. Normally I download the CDR for full day or 24 CDRs log files.
    1a. Optionally sometimes I used a program called VEdit compiled/gather all 24 CDRs into a single file.
    2. Once I have downloaded the CDRs I want to process (normally I process a full day 24 CDRs) I imported then into a Data Base temp table, where then I do the conversion of data types (i.e. Dates and times fields from char type -> to ->Date type) and calculations for billing purposes.
    So if somebody can help with this, I would really appreciated ideas or any kind of information on how to automated this process.
    Im familiar with Java2 platform (using JDeveloper ) so if somebody has done something like this before using java, this would very helpful. Or Maybe using Visual Basic 6.0 would help too.
    Thanks Gurus, and I look forward to hear from you soon!
    Alf Pathros!

    Thanks for the idea, even though an example would help me more.
    I already found the FTPClient class.
    I also would like to knwo if there is a away Ican append/merged various files CDRs into a single/one to then dump/import it into the database
