Force Sensor with Signal Conditioner to NI 6009 DAQ

Hello,
I am currently conducting a unique impact test using a pendulum. Currently, there is a rotary potentiometer measuring the shaft rotation and a force sensor to measure the impact. The rotary potentiometer and DAQ work like a charm in SignalExpress but I am currently having problems with the force sensor.
The setup:
Force Sensor --> Signal Conditioner Box --> DAQ (Analog Input 1 & Corresponding Ground).
In Signal Express, when I procede to "Add Step" - should I be choosing "Acquire Signals --> DAQmx Acquire --> Analog Input --> [Voltage? Force? Custom?]
Thanks a million,
AW (big noob)

Hi a_wishart,
I don't think the evaluation version of Signal Express is the reason you are getting that error, please see the related document, as there are multiple possible causes for that error.

  • I have an SCXI-1531,1126,1120D (with 1327) connected to PCI-6052E. How can I measure an ICP force sensor with some/all of this?

As I understand it, I may only need to use the 1531. Although it says it is used for accelerometers, it sounds like the techincal specifications of the card are adequate. I will be measuring in the range of 30 Hz with force sensors. The sensors are made by PCB Piezoelectronics, model 201B02. This equipment was somewhat inhereted, so I don't really know what of it I must use, or how. Any guidance would be appreciated.

    Dave,
It appears that your force sensor is compatible with the SCXI-1531. This module supports all Integrated Electronic Piezoelectric (IEPE) sensors. Thus, it is not limited to accelerometers. I examined the data sheet for your sensor, and it indicates that a Constant Current Excitation of 2 to 20 mA is required. The SCXI-1531 provides a constant current excitation of 4 mA. In the same way, it appears that the other specifications of your sensor are compatible with the SCXI-1531.
    Good luck with your application.

  • Foot Force Sensor

    Hello People,
I am currently enrolled in a course (mechanical measurements) which requires a project from us.
Unfortunately, we decided to go with a relatively 'over our level' project instead of the recommended ones and even though the professor and t.a. were very excited about our project, we have recieved no help till now.
Our project is very similar to this one:
    http://decibel.ni.com/content/docs/DOC-12243
Ofc our project is not exactly the same - we are just solely focusing on the force (the above one also has % body weight etc. which we don't need).
Where can I find the VI for the above project? If not, where should I begin?
Basically we have two sensors and the circuit we've configured, and we now need to begin on the VI. I must mention that we will use a wireless DAQ.
So in that case, what should I do?

First install LabVIEW and the needed drivers (NIDAQmx for a starter, which should be installed when you install LabVIEW). This should also result in the installation of the National Instruments Measurement and Automation Explorer, referred to colloquially as MAX on these forums. This tool is VERY helpful when you are beginning a hardware project as it can allow you to talk to a lot of hardware before writing a bit of code (in any language), which allows you to troubleshoot hardware setups and connections separately from debugging your program. You mention a wireless DAQ, is it a National Instruments one? If so that is good, because MAX doesn't "play" with  other companies' DAQ hardware, with the exception of those that are talked to through VISA (a driver abstraction that allows communications with serial, GPIB,TCP based instruments), but a non-NI wireless DAQ probably won't fall into this later categories. If it isn't a National Instruments DAQ all isn't lost, it will just be more difficult. You say the circuit you have configured. Do you mean designed, or have you connected and "configured" this, gotten information out of it?  As to where the VI for the example you refereed to, probably on one of the author's laptops, or a CD in some professor's desk. The PDF diagram shows the entire vi, it would be mildly educational to replicate it from scratch, but I say mildly because it will have removed much of the thought process from solving the problem, will only be showing someone how to find the various components, which isn't very educational.
Look at your force sensors, see what their outputs are, voltage, resistance, whatever. Then try and determine how to take what is probably a small signal, which would be prone to picking up environmental electrical noise, and figure how to amplify the signal to a useable level. You determine what would be a useable level by looking at the requirements of the DAQ units inputs. Are the signals big enough? Do they change value at a rate/frequency that is compatible with the DAQ's inputs. You then build a basic VI to capture these signals, maybe display them (if the DAQ is compatible with MAX you can check out the hardware connections using that, which can also show you what kind of issues of electrical noise, etc., you may have.) Then once you have the basic VI working and successfully acquiring data you can start focusing on what to do with the data, what kind of "signal processing" you may have to perform to "clean up" the data to get at the underlying information.
But just copying someone else's work may get you the grade, but really won't help you when you actually have to do this from scratch in the real world. Make your mistakes in school, they are more forgiven, there usually are more resources to turn to for help, it is the place to make them. Not that you won't make mistakes once you are in the "real world", but it is usually better to do it in the "nest" of academia.

  • SC-2345 signal conditioner module

Has anyone worked with this hardware before?
DAQ interface to the [SC-2345] signal conditioner module. It is configurable with individual SC modules.
    (2) Using equipment currently being procured: NI CompactDAQ 9181 over Ethernet housing one NI 9213 x16 channel thermocouple  module.
Functionality should be such that a variable sample rate may be employed from 1 sample per second to 1 sample per minute for all channels.  One sample per minute shall be the threshold requirement.  Only temperature is expected to be measured.  All available channels having temperature modules shall be measured and recorded.  The data should be viewed on a graph for the current test mainly for troubleshooting and calibration purposes.  All data shall be stored on hard drive to a data file in a usable file format, preferably *.csv file format.  User interface shall support start and stop of a test in a single mouse or keyboard action.  Each start of a new test shall create a new test data file not to overwrite other data.

What you are trying to do is possible with the equipment you have and LabVIEW.  The 9213 has built in cold junction compensation for up to 16 thermocouple measurements.
To get started programming this try looking at the example under Help-> Example Finder-> Hardware Input and Output-> DAQmx-> Analog Measurements-> Temperature-> Cont Acq Thermocouple Samples-SW Timed.vi
This link may help you to program the start and stop for your measurements:

  • Inductive proximity sensor with DAQ

    Hi everyone
I am planing to connect my inductive proximity sensor with NI-9215 DAQ but not sure will that thing work perofectly. Also i don't know how to connect my sensor with the BNC terminal.
The sensor I am using is from automation direct AM9-05-1A with input volatage of 10-30 VDC and output voltage range from 0-5 VDC.
I want DAQ to monitor my output signal from sensor.

    Hey lynn
I am planing to use NI-9215 DAQ. Here is the link for that.
    http://sine.ni.com/nips/cds/view/p/lang/en/nid/208793.
Since this kind of DAQ has BNC type of connectivity with it so I am not sure how to connect my sensor with this connector.
    Thanks

  • IMac G5 (no isight) will not start up.. fsck exited with signal 8

I have a 4-year old iMac G5 running leopard. WIll I was on internet, the computer froze; I shut it down (forced, as nothing else was possible) and when I tried to start up again, it would not boot. I entered the single use mode (apple+s) and run /sbin/fsck -fy and the file was modified. When I repeated, i got the following:
    /dev/rdisk0s3
    root file system
verifying volume when it is mounted with write access
    checking journaled HFS Plus volume
    checking extents overflow file
    checking catalog file
    disk0s3: I/O error
    invalid record count
    (4, 42378)
    volume check failed
dev/rdisk0s3 (hfs) EXITED WITH SIGNAL 8
I tried to run disk utility from install Leopard CD, but is also failed...
    any ideas?
please provide any help as I do not know what to do.
many thanks in advance for your time and help

Your drive directory is sufficiently hosed that neither Disk Utility nor the fsck routine can correct it.
Instead, use DiskWarrior from Alsoft to attempt to rebuild it.

  • Using a TCP/IP Connection to REQUEST and RECEIVE data from a iDRX Signal Conditioner through a EIS-2B Server

First let me say that I am new to labview, please bear with me.  I want to use Labview to querry a iDRX thermocouple signal conditioner using tcp/ip.  The signal conditioner is wired to a EIS-2B server.  The server is at 198.162.10.53 and port 2000.  The data request command is *10x01\r and the expected data to be returned is 01X01+00064.6 (or whatever the actual temperature is).  The conditioner and server are working and testing correctly using the iDRX supplied software.
My attached vi runs, creates no errors, but returns no data either.  I can find many examples of how to set up a listener, but I need to QUERRY and then RECEIVE the data.
    Thanks in advance.

Hi Alyeska!  Welcome to the forums!
I took a quick look at the VI, and I have four quick suggestions for
you that may give us some information about what is happening.
You may be experiencing an error that just isn't detected by the VI -
normally we add an error handling VI at the end of program execution to
report any errors that occurred.  Also, it's helpful to have a way
to exit the while loop so that the program can finish executing if an
error occurs.  Third, you may need to introduce a delay between
the query and the read command to allow the server time to process and
respond to the request.  Lastly, if you already know how long the
return message will be, you should wire this length to the Bytes to
Read input of the TCP Read VI so it knows to return the data once it
receives that number of bytes.  I've attached a modified version
of the VI incorporating these - give this a try, and let us know if you
still see an error, and if so, what error.  Also, if you haven't
taken a look at it already, there are excellent resources for learning
LabVIEW at the LabVIEW Fundamentals page - it's a great way to introduce yourself to LabVIEW and get up to speed quickly.

    Hi
I am using the same vi which you have suggested and i have selected proper com port and other settings, but i am not getting any data, but if i send "ADC0" and "*IDN?\n" command alternatively then it is giving the data...but if i do that i will get zero and data alternatively.I want to get data without zero in between.. any solutions on why i have to send *IDN?\n?

  • Is the connection of thermocouple need any signal conditioner if we use a NI USB-6216 Card?

I have a NI USB-6216 Card and I want to use it to measure a temperature using a thermocouple but I want to know if I need a signal conditioner circuit in this case
    Best regards

    Hi kukarobot,
Themocouples do typically require signal conditioning becuase they have such a small signal and are succeptable to noise because they are antennas.  A low signal input range (minimum for 6216 is -200 to +200 mV) helps to get better resolution with the thermocouple, and a lotpass filter can help to knock off the noise on the line.  This can be done in LabVIEW with a filter.
Also, you can opt for a low-cost TC01 for a single TC or multiple or USB 9211 or 9213 for multiple thermocouples.  The devices have lower input ranges and the filtering built in.

  • Can I use the same nike+ sensor with two differet Ipods and register the trainings in onmly one account?

Hello, I would like to know if I can use the same nike  Ipod sensor with two different ipods. I want to use the same sensor sometims with an Ipod touch and sometimes with an Ipod Nano, I want my trainings with both Ipods to be registered to the same account. I want them to be registered to only one account, not as it had been used by two different people.

Of course. You should use the same AppleID on all your devices. Why would you create a new one?

  • GNU compiled app crashes with signal 11: Segmentation Fault

    Hi Community,
I know this is not a GNU oriented forum, but maybe this is a common issue.
We have a C++ multi-threaded application running properly in Solaris 9 Sparc. Due to some issues mostly related to the NICs we needed to have the application running in Solaris 10 x86. The problem is that the compilation is ok (always with GNU) but during run time, we have the application crashing in different instructions because of a signal 11.
It always crashes in a malloc call within the libstdc++.so.6
It was compiled with the option -mt and -lthread. Is this a known problem? Do you recommend any direction to start seeking for a solution?
Pls, find attached the gdb outcomes after the crash.
    Thanks in advance, Pablo

A crash in malloc in multi-threaded code could be a bug in the system malloc or a failure to use a thread-safe malloc. The default Solaris malloc in /usr/lib/libc.so.* is thread-safe.
A crash in malloc can also be caused by a heap corruption. Probably the most common causes of heap corruption are
    - writing beyond the bounds of a buffer or variable (off by one, for example)
    - deleting the same object more than once
    - using an invalid pointer:
    --- uninitialized
--- pointing to a deleted object
--- pointing to an out-of-scope object
    - failure to guard a critical region
    - failing to declare shared objects as volatile

    Hi, all.
The database is 2 node RAC 10.2.0.2.0 on 32-bit Windows 2003 EE SP1.
We are not using Grid Control. I installed Enterprise Manager by using

    Dear DBMS_Direct.
    Thanks for your reply.
There are errors in emagent.trc and emoms.trc.
But I do not know what they mean.
There are several log files in sysman log dictory.
    1. emoms.trc
    2. emoms.log
    3. emagent.trc
    4. emagent.log
    5. emdb.nohup
    6. emdctl.trc
    7. emagent_perl.trc
What processes are writing log to these files and what do they mean?
    Thanks and Regards.
