Force Specific Screen Saver - %windir%\system32\rundll32.exe user32.dll,LockWorkStation

I am trying to force a specific screen saver using the following in Group Policy.
Enable screen saver - Enabled
Force specific screen saver - %windir%\system32\rundll32.exe user32.dll,LockWorkStation
Password protect the screen saver - Enabled
Screen saver timeout - 600
On some computers it works, others it does not and still others show the bubbles screen saver.  I have been unable to figure out why it's not working 100%.  It's as if the local screen saver settings are overriding the domain group policy settings.

Hi,
Force specific screen saver - %windir%\system32\rundll32.exe user32.dll,LockWorkStation
What's the path of this?
The correct path should be: type the name of the file that contains the screen saver, including the
.scr file name extension. If the screen saver file is not in the %Systemroot%\System32 directory, type the fully qualified path to the file.
Local setting was unable to overriding the domain group policy. It might be the group policy was not applied to client. We could use gpresult command on client side to confirm:
Run "gpresult /h gpreport.html" command to saves the report in HTML format with the file name "gpreport.html" at C:\Windows\System32\ directory.
Open this file to check if this group policy was applied successfully.
Also check it on client which worked fine to compare this group policy setting.

  • Microsoft visual c++ runtime library error system32.rundll32.exe

I've tried serching for this specific issue to no avail.  This message seems to pop up frequently and I'm not tech savy enough to know what it's in regards to.  The message is "Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library    Runtime Error
-Program C:\Windows\System32\rundll32.exe."  Sometimes when I hit ok it disappears. but other times, it just keeps coming back.  Do I need to reinstall something or remove something?  Thanks for any help you can provide.

Well then, how am I supposed to know what DLL will be called with rundll32? Where do I find this information?
You are not. These people are not interested in the fact that Microsoft want to cripple customers by distributing half-baked code to give you a headache and a time-suck.
I say that as the problem is also glued into Windows 10 also.
I just upgraded to the Official preview, from Windows 7 Ultimate for a dynabook i7 laptop; and the same old shyitt exits glued into the sys files..
If only they could code properly.

  • Difference between Control Panel Credential Manager and rundll32.exe keymgr.dll,KRShowKeyMgr

    Hello
With keymgr.dll,KRShowKeyMgr I can find Lync certificates not showing in Control Panel  > Credential Manager. Is there a difference between the two? What would be the explanation for that?
    Thank you and regards,

    Hi,
    They are the same settings.
If you sign in your Windows 8.1 and Lync with the same account, it will not save the credential in Credential Manager.

    Best Regards,
    Muhammad Arshad,

Following you have to do:user configuration -> Policies -> Administration Templates -> Control Panel / Personalization  settings as follows:
    Enable Screen Saver : Enabled
Force Specific screen saver : Enabled
Screen Saver exe name : scrnsave.scr
Password protect the screen saver : Enabled
Prevent changing the screen saver : Enabled
Screen saver timeout: number of seconds 1800 (30 minutes)
Time out interval depends on your requirement.

    Hi,
    I agree with SenneVL.
After you have created the .scr file that you want to apply, you may deploy the screensaver via the following group policy.
    User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Control Panel\Personalization\Force specific screen saver
If you enable this setting, type the name of the file that contains the screen saver, including the .scr file name extension. If the screen saver file is not in the %Systemroot%\System32
directory, type the fully qualified path to the file.
Note: This setting can be superseded by the "Enable Screen Saver" setting.  If the "Enable Screen Saver" setting is disabled, this setting is ignored,
and screen savers do not run.

  • Turn off the screen saver is greyed out in Presentation Settings

    Hi,
We are using Windows 7, and want to allow laptop users the ability to "turn off the screen saver" when they are running presentations. However, this option is greyed out and the box is not selectable.
We have the usual screen saver group policies, i.e. enable screen saver, Prevent changing the screen saver, screen saver timeout, and force specific screen saver. I have tried to Disable all these apart from Enable screen saver, since if I disable this then
it says users cannot change screen saver options, so I left this one as enabled.
However, the "Turn off the screen saver" box is still greyed out. Does anyone know which group policy setting will enable this option?
Also, is there a way to keep the screen saver settings and also be able to use Presentation Settings, so that the screen saver does not come on and lock the machine in mid presentation?
I've seen some sites mention utilities that run in the background and simulate mouse clicks, but we're not allowed to run these kind of utilities, and no forums seem to be able to provide an answer to this problem.
    Thxs.
    Jaz

    Hi,
    >>i.e. enable screen saver, Prevent changing the screen saver, screen saver timeout, and force specific screen saver. I have tried to Disable all these apart from
    Enable screen saver,
Before going further, please make sure that the group policy settings were applied correctly. We can run cmd command
gpresult/v or gpresult/z on clients to collect group policy to check this.
Besides, if the issue persists, we can try setting all these settings to
    Not Configured.
    >>Also, is there a way to keep the screen saver settings and also be able to use Presentation Settings, so that the screen saver does not come on and lock the machine
    in mid presentation?
Based on the description, it is not easy to do this. However, we can reduce the effect of screen saver by choosing to not enable
Password protect the screen saver, and not set the setting
On resume, display logon screen on Screen Saver Settings dialogue box. Besides, we need to not let our power plan settings lock out the computer within a short time.

  • Some Preferences not sticking ie screen saver jump back to random after setting a particular screen saver

I set a specific screen saver in the preferences file, after a reboot, random savers box is always checked. Also when I move items to the side bar they stay there until a start-up after which they have disappeared.
    Thx  AL

I think that it is something wrong with kernel and graphic drivers but i'm not able to solve it from the beginning of using of Arch by me.
I'm not so sure this issue is software-related only because in my case it seems the laptop screen enters power-saving mode (10-min timeout) on its own without any events logged (as shown by dmesg) so my next thought was OK, I'm going to get rid of this issue disabling the screen power-saving timeout in the BIOS and set it to never power down or something like that and from then on managing power mode manually; ie: when I want to power down I will just use systemctl suspend/hibernate which work fine ... problem is: there are no related options in my BIOS for such timeout.
The only timeouts I have are in /etc/systemd/logind.conf set to 30min (#IdleActionSec) (commented) by default so these are not in effect because the screens goes blank after 10m which is less than the (default) 30m in logind. Maybe setting loggind to 9m (un-commented) to catch the event before the machine-default one ?
    IdleActionSec=9min
    IdleAction=suspend
Will check it and report back.

  • Screen saver not working with iDVD

I am having a concern with my iDVD program. When I tell the iDVD to burn a disk-image it looks like everything is working. Note it takes many hours on a 1.25 Ghz G4. For some reason the screen saver and the energy saver for the screen will not kick in. My screen stays at full brightness the whole time.
I can move my mouse to a "hot corner" and force the screen saver will come on but never the energy saver. It only happens when using iDVD. I tried resetting the PRAM and I also deleted the idvd.plist file and did the permisssions verify.
Is there some reason the iDVD software would not want the energy saver feature to kick in? Anyone else have this problem.
    Scott

I guess the way I should have phrased the question is "is it normal for the screen saver to not kick in". I don't know if I have a problem or that I am seeing normal behavior. On iLife06 the screen saver did kick in.
I understand the idea of freeing the computer of all non-essential tasks. My only concern is having the monitor on for the 15 hours it takes to burn the disk image. This is a downside of the iMac, you can't turn off the monitor and leave the rest of the system run.
My long term solution is to get new hardware. I would like to see the 15 hours be more like 1 or 2 at the worst case.
    Thanks for the feed back

  • Windows Server 2008 Standard 32-bit gives Rundll32.exe error and blank screen on bootup

Last week our file server installed automatic updates and then requested a reboot.  After rebooting it repeatedly gave a blue screen and rebooted.  After 5 hours on the phone with Microsoft support we all gave up on it with no solution.  Later
we were able to get the machine to boot using an old mirrored hard drive of the system drive.  We can now access our data drive, however after login we get this error:
Rundll32.exe : Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permission to access the
    item.
and the console just shows a blank screen.  We are not able to do anything on the server.  I can Ctrl-Alt-Del and bring up Task
Manager and I see that SQL Server is not running, so not all services are running normally.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hi,
Based on my research, this issue occurs because the Rundll32.exe file is corrupted. You need to extract a new copy of Rundll32.exe in C:\Windows\System32.
To do this, you can either copy it from another same version of Windows or perform an In-Place Upgrade.
How to Perform an In-Place Upgrade on Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows
    Server 2008 & Windows Server 2008 R2

  • OS5.1 forced album artwork screen saver on me.  How do I get rid of it?

I just loaded the newest OS for the Apple TV.  I use my own photos for my screen saver.  But the new OS has forced album artwork into my photo rotation.  All I see is album artwork.  I dont want that.  Anyone know how to get rid of it?  There is no on/off with that option in the screen saver menu.

    Tophipherous,
I was confused too because i did not see the "My Computers" option that the jmfindley referenced. Here is how I was able to solve this problem on my Apple TV (5.1.1)
On the main screen go to "Photo Stream"
    Select "Settings"
If any photo streams are currenty signed on (linked to the Apple TV) select "Sign Out"
Then, sign back on using the apple ID associated with Photo Stream you want to see displayed through your Apple TV. It should start building the library slowly on the screen, the number of photos will increment upwards a few at a time.
Finally, double check that your screensaver settings are correct (this happened automatically for me). On the home screen go into "Settings". Under "Screen Saver" check that the Photos option is now set to "My Photo Stream"
    Hope this helps.

  • Screen Saver stuck at 3 Minutes and spinning ball / Force Quit !

I am try to change my screen saver which is set at 3 minutes , when I open Desktop and Screens Saver, the spinning balls comes ( forever ) and I must force quit. I cannot change the setting, I looked up past problems of the same nature and found " Old Toad " giving advice for this problem, when I found the "By Host" folder I could not find the exact com.apple.screensaver.xxxxxxxxplist ( or something close to that ) that I should delete and then reopen my System Pref. I found others close to that , but that exact one, Any Help ? Thanks

I Think I found the answer, I found some com.apple.screensaver in the " ByHost" folder and dragged each one in and out until I found which one was causing the spinning ball problem, presently I have it in the Trash, but not sure if it's ok to delete form Trash, it must have been in the " BY Host " folder for some reason to begin with ? Thanks

  • Blank Screen after Screen Saver

I have a MacBook Pro with an external VGA monitor connected - desktop not shared (i.e. different desktop regions on both screens).
All is fine until the screen saver kicks in. When I wake the machine up again, only the external monitor shows an image - the laptop screen remains blank.
If I use Screen Sharing from another Mac, I can see what is on the laptop screen - and interact with all the applications there exactly as expected - but the screen remains stubbornly blank.
Is there a way to force redrawing of the screen/nudge the Mac to start using the laptop screen again (or better still a fix to stop the problem happening in the first place?)

To be more specific - I think it's when the power settings kick in rather than the screen saver - I haven't explicitly changed any screen saver or power settings from the default.
The Mac sits there for a good while with both the laptop screen and external screen on. The laptop screen dims after a while but still has a complete display. Then after a further period the laptop screen goes black/off but the external screen remains on. After this I cannot get the laptop screen back without a reboot (achieved through screen sharing from another Mac to avoid a hard boot and losing open documents).
