Force update during processor intensive routine

hello all,
i have a swf with several processor intensive subroutines within a main init() routine at start up (about a 5 secs startup wait). it needs a preloader not due to asset loads but to the processor intensive routines.
i'm trying to create a preloader that will display progress as the routines complete but when i try to write text to text field as each subroutine completes either the textField.text is not updated or the text field display is not updated after each subroutine finishes. this prevents me from tracking the progress of the start up.
is there a way to force an update to the display list in the middle of a processor intensive routine? i believe flash is supposed to update after each frame but i'm not seeing this.
also, the text field i'm displaying *before* this processor intensive routine *does* display when running locally but *does not* display before the routine when running online. not sure why.

The usual way is to use a Timer or a setInterval. So if you know that you need to create 1,000 vector shapes and you know that it takes 10 second to do all of them. So instead of trying to do them all in one function you would set a Timer that called a function every little bit -- something like 50 milliseconds or so.
Then you would make a list of the shapes you needed to create, start a timer that called a function every 50 milliseconds, each time the timer calls the function it will make (just to be on the safe side) 4 of the vectors, crosses them off the list of those that need to be created, then the function would be done, the frame would render, any preloader could render, and so on. It would repeat until the list of vectors that need to be created was empty.
You would probably want a custom class that handled this and dispatched some kind of progress and complete events.
However I'm not sure why you are taking this approach. You can create all the clips inside the Flash IDE and then export them for actionscript. Then it is just a mater of loading them and the preloaders for that are generally simpler that what you are doing.
There are also probably tricks to making things appear to be created and load more quickly.

IPAD: Forced Shutdown During Update. iPad No Longer Working! Help?

I did a force shutdown during the latest ios6 bug fix update and now my ipad will not work at all. iTunes does not reckognise the device when I connect it to my pc via usb. I have tried everything I can think of to have it start but with no success. It just keeps displaying the Apple logo, then flickering, then showing some text data in white, then goes to a blank black screen, then the logo and all over again. It does shutdown but cannot do a startup to the swipe lock page.
It would be hard to believe one could fully kill an ipad so quickly and easily. Please tell me that this is a fixable problem! Any way to get it to start again?

You will need to restore your iPad to factory from recovery mode and connecting to your computer. Connect your iPad to your computer and hold the home and power button down for 15 to 30 seconds until you see the silver apple. Once you see the silver apple let go of the power button but keep holdng the home button until you see the itunes logo and white usb cord. At this point you should be able to restore in itunes.

Lightroom crashing during 'move file' and other processor-intensive operations

Hi Everyone
I've been using various versions of Lightroom on my Mac for many years without issue. I love the program. Recently though, when using the last iteration of Lightroom 3 I began to experience problems when performaning processor-intensive work. For example, my library has nearly 200K images, and these are organized into hundreds of folders (bird species), each folder containing from 1 to up to 14K images. My workflow is to bring in the photos, rename them, and then shift them over into these species folders. For me it's an easier and faster way to get my hands on specific images than using tags. In any case, when I try to move images between folders lately, Lightroom slows down and eventually crashes. It also crashes the other apps running on my Mac at the time (usually just a web browser). I get the gray screen of death and have to reboot the Mac. Start over and after a few minutes of work it happens again.
Today I upgraded to Lightroom 4.3 hoping that might solve the problem, but I experienced the same crash behavior tonight while shifting some photos around. The Mac is a Macbook pro, recent model with latest OS and with 16GB RAM. I don't experience problems like this with any other application, but Lightroom is now bringing my computer to its knees! I even took the Mac into the Apple store and had the full diagnostics run and they found no problems internally. I keep my photos on external drives connected by firewire. Another potential wrinkle: Lightroom doesn't seem to be able to find a few of my previously imported images even though the directory is looking for them in the right folder. I get a "File offline or missing" issue. I tried pointing the folder to a new location (the same one) but that didn't work. Oddly, it does seem to find others.
In any case, any help here would be much appreciated. I have a feeling that my catalog might be corrupted and may be causing these problems, but I'm uncertain how to tell.

You seem to have enough resources in your MacBook Pro to run Lr smoothly. Your catalog is not corrupted, or Lr would not open it.
When was the last time you ran <Optimize catalog> (>File >Optimize Catalog)? When was the last time you made a catalog backup from within Lr (your Mac backups don't count here). From within Lr because optimization of the catalog and of the previews is part of the backup from within Lr while your Mac backup doesn't optimize anything - it just copies.
The problems you are experiencing might also be caused by a drive that is nearly full, i.e. 80% or more. Usually the free space is not one big "empty stretch" but is distributed in small chunks. So when you try to move lots of images "in one fell swoop", Lr has trouble finding space to "park" images (a) for the moment, and (b) permanently.
Since you seem to move your images often, your drive might also be highly fragmented - although - if I remember correctly - defragmentation is not necessary on a Mac.
Finally, moving images between folders is not one of the strengths of Lr. It is known that - during a move - Lr sometimes "drops" images, i.e. they disappear from the computer to be never seen again. Also, Lr might loose the link to the image, indicate that the file is missing, and when you try to re-link them it says that this file is referenced with another image. You say that this is happening to you.
Therefore I would strongly recommend that you change your image organization to a workflow that is more conducive to Lr, i.e. organization by keywords and Collections.
You still can have folders, but constantly moving images between folders is not a good practice - as you are experiencing now.
And, the fact that you find it necessary to shift images between folders indicates clearly that organization by folders is not satisfactory. The reason is: an image can only be in one (1) folder (either in the petrel folder or in the shearwater folder) - but an image can have multiple keywords and can be in multiple collections.

Forcing Update of Default Global Address List

How can I force update of the Global Address List (Default Global Address List). I have about 62 000 MailContacts objects which are synchronisze regularly with AD and the information feature correctly both in AD and under Mail Contact (EMC) in Exchange2007.
However, most of the MailContacts are not showing in the Global Address List. The Mailcontacts are missing both in Outlook and OWA.
What is the default schedule for the GAL created during exchange installation?
Though I know there is now possibility to edit it and that is not my wish, but can at least force an update so that it takes all the available information

I started this thread in summer 2010 and occassionaly still being faced with this problem.
The Problem is actually to be able to "STAMP" Mailcontacts received from external source, without any addition EmaiAddress entry from the Default Policy (our
DomainName) being added to them. Everything works fine with OWA once „Update-GlobalAddressList“ is applied, but outlook seems not able to work correctly until
the “STAMPING” - Update-EmailAddressPolicy”
is applied. I get this error message when trying to send mail:
„Delivery has failed to these recipients or distribution lists:
RecepientDisplayName
The recipient's e-mail address was not found in the recipient's e-mail system. Microsoft Exchange will not try to redeliver this message for you. Please check the e-mail address and try resending this message, or provide the following diagnostic text to your
system administrator.“
In case there is not workaround to avoid the additional EmailAddress, then with which PS command can I run through only the Mailcontact and delete this additional EmailAddres
entry.

Prevent quantity updating during Goods Receipt

Hi,
We have a particular requirement for a type of subcontracting process (not the standard SAP subcontracting) as mentioned below.
We create a Purchase Order for a material (without a standard cost) and giving an account assignment category in the PO. The Net price mentioned in the PO is the processing charges for the vendor (service charges). It does not indicate price for the material.
When we receive the finished material from the vendor, we perform a Goods receipt. The stock gets updated and accounting documents are created.
Our requirement is to stop this quantity updating during Goods Receipt. But, at the same time, we would like the accounting documents to be created as we need to pay the vendor.
Is there any way of achieving this?
Pl let me know. Any inputs would be appreciated.

I understand that in the standard process, the parent item inforecord takes care of the processing charges. But this is process that has been customized differently as the client has SAP as well as legacy systems talking to each other.
Turning off the qty updating at the material type level will turn it off for all purchase orders created for the material at that particular plant which is something we would like to avoid.
We would basically like to turn it off for particular purchase order type. The reason for turning it off is that after the GR is done, there is a separate process that comes from the legacy system and updates the same quantity of finished product and also posts the consumption of components.
So, our basic requirement is , is it possible to turn off qty updating for the GR of a particular purchase order document type and yet create accounting document. Material is not a valuated material and has a standard cost zero.
Any inputs in this regard will be helpful.

Statistic condition values not updated during Sales order Settlement

In our client we have different Price condition types for based on scenario wise. Ex: Domestic Sales (ZPR1) and Export Sales ZPR2. I have maintained separately value fields for each price condition types.
We are booking some financial charges, and interest on working capital etc., this cost we need to transfer to COPA each Material wise based on sales revenue.
For this purpose we have created one COPA Assessment Cycle. Tracing factor is Sales Revenue and receiver is Materials.
In COPA Assessment cycle we can give only one base means ZPR1 related value field or ZPR2 related value field.
For this reason we have created one new statistic condition type, what is amount there in ZPR1 that amount will updated automatically in statistic condition place and so that we can give once one trance factor in COPA Assessment Cycle. We have assign this statistic condition all pricing procedure
Now my problem is in MTS scenario statistic condition values updated correctly. But in MTO scenario sales order settlement time statistic condition values not updated.
So is it possible update during sales order settlement time statistic condition values.
Please give me suggestion.

As you said is correct.
But in our client we have around 9 Plants and each plant manufacturing product are different. Client Requirement is in COPA Report they need see each product wise sales revenue. In this way we mapped product wise value field. System already mapped one guy in this way earlier. Now I am doing some changes for relevant to month end activities.
Some financial changes transfer to COPA each plant wise on Material. Here sender is cost center and receiver is Material. Base is Sales Revenue.
Please suggest me is there any alternative.

Stop pre from trying to force update to 1.3.1?

So like most other posts after 1.3.1 was dumped on the unsuspecting populace, I updated, saw none of my major bugs fixed, introduced only worse ones, and I flattened my phone back to restore back to 1.2.1 until palm gets their act together (hopefully). I spared my wife the woes of upgrade after she saw how bad it made my phone react, but almost immediately hers began trying to force her to update, and a few days later me too. Even worse we couldn't get it to stop trying.
I need to know how to stop this incessant nagging until I actually see some positive result from attempts to upgrade to non-buggy software - I'm afraid im going to accidentally let it upgrade and have my phone paralyzed/unuseable again on 1.3.1. What can we do to stop the forced upgrade other than keep telling it "upgrade me later" at every charge?

Ok, now I'm pretty much p*ssed at palm... So at some point over night it decided to auto-update itself without asking prior to me removing patches and everything else, so in essence now my phone is completely hozed - again. So now not only are all my patches gone that actually made the phone usable, I get the joy of 1.3.1 freezing up my phone every 2 seconds, yahoo/msn/communicator are all broken, and I need to flatten the phone yet again (and this time doing the recommended killing of UpdateManager).
This is really disappointing that the community takes up Palm's shortcommings in fixing problems and adding functionality they're lacking, only to have Palm come along and completely screw them up. Palm is well aware of the community fixing their inability/inactions through homebrew, but still choose to force updates that can cripple the software automagically. They need to learn to co-exist, and not hard-handedly update when homebrew is present! This will just continue to fracture their community as they've been doing already.
No matter how good linux itself has become, vendors like Palm can still screw it up with buggy java stacks and poor overall software implementation.

Indexed field num_comments on blog post not updating during incremental crawl

Hi,
Have a webpart that rolls blog posts from MySite and other Team sites.
Everything works fine excepts that the property ows_numcomments (which I have a managed property mapped to) is only updated after a full crawl has run (ie once per night or manually started).
Why is it so and what can I do to make updating during an incremental crawl?

Can you do full crawl and check this property is getting updated. If not then either incremental crawl is not updating the value or there is some problem with the field configuration.

Nvidia to put more force behind Intel processors

Nvidia, a maker of graphics chips, on Friday announced plans to create a version of its nForce chipset for Intel processor PCs. That's something Nvidia couldn't legally do in the past but can do now, thanks to a broad patent swap with Intel.
A chipset is a PC's nervous system; it stewards data as it travels through the machine.
The patent swap will help give the chipmaker access to a broader swath of the chipset market. Nvidia--along with ATI Technologies, its rival in the market for graphics chips--entered the PC chipset business several years ago in an effort to remain competitive as desktop and notebook PC makers moved to so-called integrated graphics chipsets, which incorporate graphics processors.

Intel spokesmanDespite Advanced Micro Devices' efforts to encourage companies to build chipsets for its processors, Intel still dominates the PC processor space, with around 82 percent market share.
Intel's large processor share, in turn, bootstraps shipments of other companies' chipsets, making it important for manufacturers such as Nvidia to offer chipsets for both Intel and AMD processors.
But despite the fact that its nForce chipset has been popular among owners of AMD PCs, Nvidia wasn't able to build a version of the chipset for Intel processors until now because it lacked a license for Intel's front-side bus, the pathway for shuttling data back and forth to the processor.
The agreement between the two chipmakers--which spans years, product lines and product generations, the companies said in a statement--also grants Nvidia a multiyear license to the Intel bus, paving the way for an nForce for the latest Pentiums.

However, when the company does start offering them, it will face stiff competition from Intel--which makes chipsets and motherboards for its own processors--as well as from several other chipset manufacturers. ATI, Nvidia's chief graphics rival, along with Acer Labs, SiS and VIA Technologies, all have agreements with Intel to build chipsets for PCs based on its chips, and thus offer numerous chipsets for Pentium processor PCs.
Intel still enjoys a lion's share of the chipset market and lately has begun viewing chipsets as a much more important part of its business, as it can use them to add new features to PCs and thus boost processors sales. It also aims to make its chips more attractive by bundling them with new elements, such as wireless modules. Centrino, its chip bundle for wireless notebooks, is one such example.
However, Nvidia and other chipset makers have an audience in submarkets, including smaller PC manufacturers and enthusiasts who build their own PCs.
Yet Intel's licensees have proved more aggressive than the chip-making giant, adding new technology more quickly (which has helped them gain the loyalty of enthusiasts) and building speedier graphics into their chipsets. Thus they have able to carve out niches in the business. ATI's Radeon IGP chipset, for example, has been used in numerous notebook PCs.
Still, Intel, which once protected its bus technology much more closely, leading it into legal battles with Via Technologies, regards its agreement with Nvidia as a positive for its customers.

How To: Deploying Windows & Office updates during task sequence

How do you guys apply windows and office updates during the task sequence?
Right now for Windows, I am offline servicing using my software deployment package.
For Office, I had the software deployment package, but can't figure out how to add it to my task sequence. All the options don't allow me to choose the package.
My end goal is to keep everything as up to date as possible, and if people image a computer and run Windows Update, they only have to download 10 or less updates, not 100+.

Is Office part of your image or do you deploy Office as part of your task sequence?
If office is part of your image, i'd recommend that you create a fully automated build and capture process using the MDT lite touch, and use a separate WSUS server to update the image with Windows , Office and other updates.
It's pretty easy to setup.

If Office is not part of the image, you need to deploy the updates using Software Updates In SCCM as part of your Task Sequence.

It's a task sequence. I'm confused how Software Updates works with SCCM because I do not want to use it to update All Systems. I only want to update it to computers that get imaged which are Unknown Computers. We have WSUS to take care of updates.
If I deploy to Unknown Computers the updates in SCCM, once it joins the domain though to install all the other applications in the task sequence, will updates still go through now that it isn't a "Unknown ComputeR"?

After you share an app datafile, is it updated during synch

I have set- up a couple of datafiles to be shared between my computer and my Ipad. However, if update the file on the ipad, the shared file on the computer is not updated during synch, and vice versa.
Am i missing something, or does this just not work?

I use jdeveloper 903 version to create only one entity bean, and set the force-update=true in the orion-ejb-jar.xml, when verify it, it is ok, when deploy it to the oc4j 903 version, it throws error message.
you may try it using jdeveloper 9.0.3 version.

Batch Classification data not getting updated during the GR of the PO

Dear Gurus,
While doing the GR of the Purchase order the classification data for the batch should get updated .However we can see those data in MSC2N (Change batch) but not in MSC3N (Display Batch) .While consultuing with SAP we found that the data in MSC3N is directly picked in the AUSP table but the data in MSC2 N reads the information directly from the
reference table field (MCH1-LWEDT & MCH1-LIFNR .My Qusetion is why this the AUSP entries are not getting updated during the GR itself.

I am not sure about your question, but if you want to populate the classification data during goods receipt then you need to maintain characteristics values in material master for classification tab under class type batch i.e. 022. After then it will apper during goods receipt for characteristics value for batch.

Force update lumia 800: Will I still be able to do...

Hi,
As I mentioned in my previous post, I was not able to get the official update for my lumia, even though the website says that updates are available.
So I decided to force update it. However, I still would like to install the official update whenever it's available.
Is this still possible given that I have force updated my phone? Or do I have to downgrade back to .12070 ?

Yes. Apple > Software Update is only for Apple products. For other products, you need to check with the people who made it.
