Forcing Domain OU selection in SCCM 2012 R2 UDI

We have added various domain OU to our UDI so that a newly imaged machine will join the correct OU during imaging. However, I can't figure out how to make OU selection required. When left as the default, it will select the top OU in the list. I've added
a blank line at the top with "Make a selection" as the "Friendly name". If someone does not select an OU (leaving it on "Make a selection") the computer will join the domain Computers OU.

Okay - I am on the same page as you now.
Create a OU (manually) like this:
Friendly Name: Please select an OU
DN: Sel=domain.com
And then create an validator using a regular expression (RegEx) using this
^(ou=) as the regular expression.
I have not tested this but it should work
Thanks for the info. However, either I didn't understand, or this may not work. Here is what I've done:
When I try to save the file I get the same error that I was getting in the screenshot of my previous reply:
The element 'Field' has invalid child element 'Default'. List of possible elements expected: 'Validator'.
As you can see above I tried putting in a default value, however, it also gives the same error when I leave the default value blank. Before adding this regex validator the default value was left blank, and I didn't receive this error. This error only occurs
when I try to add a validator and save the file.

  • Implications of Domain Migration / Rename to SCCM 2012 R2

Our agency is preparing to migrate our entire AD to a new AD domain with a new name. I'm looking for any docs or user experiences with SCCM 2012 R2. Will I need to reinstalled a new SCCM 2012 R2 site in the new domain or is there a way to 'move' the existing
    site over?
    Orange County District Attorney

You can do it without installing a new SCCM.
    - Discover the new Active Directory Forests in the Administration /
    Hierarchy Configuration in the console.
    - Modify Active Directory System Discovery settings to discover new domain resources.
    - When you are ready to make the migration, remove Boundary config from old Active Directory and add a new boundary for the new Active Directory.
It will assign resource from new Active Directory to your actual site assignment and content library.

  • Allowing the domain users Group to SCCM 2012 Remote Control

    Hi There,
been working on this issue for the last few days now and its frustrating the crap out of me. My company has requested for all Domain users to be allowed to Remote Control to everyone's computer. This is so that users will be able to show each other how to
use in house application. In SCCM 2012 console, I've added the Domain users to the Premitted viewer tab. I've also added the domain user group to the administrative user section, added the Remote operator role and assigned the
ALL security scope to it. On another machine, i run the CMRCviewer to this machine and it prompts for username advising me the one i provided isn't authorized. when i check on the targeted machine, i can see domain users populated in the ConfigMgr
    remote control user group
It seems only domain admins have rights to Remote control in. i've only got one client setting defined (default policy).
the interesting thing is the following layout
WINDOWS XP ---> WINDOWS 7      prompts for username
WINDOWS 7 -----> WINDOWS XP  works

  • Migration of SCCM 2012 SP1 to SCCM 2012 R2 in a new domain.

I am wondering if it is possible to migrate objects from a SCCM 2012 SP1 server in one domain to a new SCCM 2012 R2 server in another domain ?
I read this article, but it does not state this particular combination.
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg682006.aspx
    Thx
    Thomas

For Migrate from SCCM 2012 SP1 to SCCM 2012 R2 in same environment/Domain, it's support and applicable.
But migrate to new domain, it's not support. Also you can't migrate database for new domain or object. you will need to rebuild it.

  • SCCM 2012 R2 cross forest with one-way trust feasible?

We are planning to replace our existing SMS 2003 server with SCCM 2012 R2 (running on Windows server 2012 R2).
Our requirements are to support client our Windows 7 client PC's in Domain A and also support Xen Desktop clients in a separate domain (Domain B) and forest. We have a one way trust established (Domain B trusts Domain A). The SCCM 2012 R2 server will be
in Domain A the same as our current SMS 2003 server.
What we want to do, at a minimum, using SCCM is:
Client inventory (hardware, software, user) and package distribution.
Is this do able or a no go? If not directly is there any work-around for this? Appreciate any helpful advice or feedback.
I have made the below diagram to better illustrate the scenario:
Note: Domain B does not have WINS implemented (Domain A does). Both domains are running DNS of course.

    Hi,
The following blog describes the technical requirements that have been put in place for the support of cross forest communication. You could have a look.
    Quote:
Inner-site Communication (site to site communication) exists in the form of both File Based Replication (SMB Port 445) and Database Replication (TCP/IP port 4022 by default).
In order to install and configure a child site (primary or secondary), the child site server must be located in the same forest as the parent site or reside in a forest that contains a
two way trust with the forest of the parent (CAS or primary).
Site System Roles (MP, DP, etc.) with the exception of the Out of Band Service Point and the Application Catalog Web Service Point can be deployed in an untrusted forest.
The SLP functionality as known in ConfigMgr 2007 is now performed by a Management Point. In this blog I will refer to this as the Lookup Management Point.
Most of these items were taken from this TechNet article – please refer to the article for more information -

  • SCCM 2012 R2 Computer reports not displaying users and domain information for some systems.

I have a recently deployed SCCM 2012 R2 server which has been running well so far.
I have, however, noticed in the reporting (example: "Computers in a specific site" report) that some computers are not showing information like "User domain" and "User Name" (for about 500 of the 1500 computers).
If I go to a collection, select such a computer and right click to properties and go to the general tab I can see that the below fields are blank:
    Last Logon User Domain
    Last Logon User Name
All other fields are populated similarly for both affected and non-affected agents. Agent versions are the same as well. Hardware/Software inventory appears to be completing on all systems.
Has anyone else seen this type of behavior and found a solution? Appreciate any advice. Thanks.
Edit: Most agents have been installed for close to 2 months.
    Hardware inventory: Daily
    Software inventory: Weekly

    Hi,
Those two values are populated by the Heartbeat agent and if no user is logged on when the heartbeat is sent, then the value is blank so I would say this would be as expected.
If you want to know which user has been using a computer you should have a look at the assett Intelliengence reports with console usage, then you can see who has been using a computer most frequently.

  • SCCM 2012 - How to add domain id to local administrator group of all clients

SCCM 2012 - How to add domain id to local administrator group of all clients
    Hi,
i have a domain id sccmadmin which is a part of domain admins group too.
Need to add this ID to the local administrators group of all clients. How do I do this? Please help!

    Hi ,
you need to choose the second option .
First option will remove all the domains users from the local administrator group available in all the PC'S .Then local administrator group will only have the users updated on the members list present in group policy.
Note : Local admins accounts on the local administrators groups will not be removed.
Second option will add the newly created group to the local administrator group in all the PC'S and it will not remove the existing members in the local administrators group.
Step 1 : Just try to create one new group for SCCM management .
Step 2 : Then add the SCCM account to that group.
Step 3 : Then please create a new group policy on that just choose the second option. On that option just add the newly created group to be an member of administrator group in all the PC'S
Why i have asked you to create a new group ?
Because in second option , we don't have a option to add a individual user .
Once you have created a group policy it will like below snap.
As an additional i will tell how to find the newly created group policy is applying to computer objects or not ans also i will tell you how to force update the group policy
1.gpresult /r ----> To find the which group policy is applying on user and computer object .
2.rsop.msc ----> There you can able to find the change has been applied or not .
3.gpupdate /force -----> Forcefully updating the group policy in a client machine
4.In gpmc.msc there is one option called group policy results .That option will be used for centralized management to find the policies that are applied to a user and computer account.
5.Just check the event viewer in all the PC'S for group policy related events.
Most importantly you need to make sure all the computer accounts are placed in an ou ,where the newly created group policy is applying and also make sure that OU doesn't contain any inheritance block.
Please feel free to reply me if you have any queries.
    Thanks & Regards S.Nithyanandham

  • SCCM 2012 R2 - Management Point deployment to untrusted domain

    Hi all,
we've got two domains in our environment which have no trust relationship. I have sccm 2012 r2 installed on a Windows 2012 R2 server in the larger domain
and have just installed a DP and MP on a Windows 2008 R2 server in the second, smaller domain. The Management Point installed ok according to mpmsi.log but the problem i'm having is that the mpcontrol.log is now repeatedly throwing up the following message:
Call to HttpSendRequestSync failed for port 80 with status code 500, text:Internal Server Error
On the dp/mp server in the smaller domain i can browse to http://sccm-dp1/ ok. I can also browse to http://sccm-dp1/sms_mp/.sms_aut?MPCert ok. I cannot
browse to http://sccm-dp1/sms_mp/.sms_aut?MPList (receive a HTTP 500 error).

Can anyone provide any suggestions as to where i should begin troubleshooting this issue? When i deployed the MP to the smaller domain i ensured it
had a Management Point Connection Account which could access the SQL DB in the larger domain. I'm wondering if the two error messages i'm receiving are related or whether i have two separate issues here?
    Thanks for the help!

    Hi Paul,
thanks for taking the time to help. I registered asp.net v4 with IIS as per your suggestion, unfortunately it hasn't made much difference and i'm still seeing the "Call
to HttpSendRequestSync failed for port 80 with status code 500, text:Internal Server Error"
message repeating in mpcontrol.log. Have you got any further suggestions of things
to try? Seems like an error message i really need to fix!
As far as the MP to SQL issue goes, the network team assured me the connection is allowed
but i might get them to double check this just in case.
    Thanks

  • Why is it not possible to move a SCCM 2012 Server to a new Domain?

    Hello everybody,
I know it is not supported to move a SCCM 2012 Server to a new Domain. But I am still missing why it is not supported or possible....
I could not find anything that explained it in detail on the forums/internet. So when the question comes up in front of a customer it is always better to have a good argumentation...Can somebody describe the reasons why??
Thank you very much in advance!

    Have them call CSS then.
It's ultimately the result of the design of the product but not an explicit decision. To my knowledge, it relies on the domain name for certain things and this is explicitly embedded with no defined way to change this. Could it be changed? Probably.
But, that would take a lot of work and effort and is not something Microsoft has ever invested any time in.
The grass is green and the sky is blue. Knowing why doesn't change these.

  • SCCM 2012 Multiple Domains with a single SCCM instance

    Hello:
Can SCCM 2012 be deployed to multiple untrusted domains within a single install?
I work for a company that maintains multiple client networks all Windows Domain and non are trusted / or are even aware of the other sites.
I would like to setup a SCCM 2012 (and also a Virtual Machine Manager for HyperV) at my office and manage all my different client sites from the single SCCM server.
The connection would be from my office over the Internet in through their on prem firewall
Currently we use Centra Stage and have used Kaseya in the past. I am looking to move from them and focus on SCCM to do this for me.
Is this even possible to do with the product?
    Thanks in Advance!
    -David

Yes, ConfigMgr can manage (un)trusted forests, but what exactly do you mean with "not aware of the other sites"? A requirement is that name resolution and a connection is possible.
For some good scenario's see also this series:

  • ¿Is it possible to upgrade from SCCM 2012 a domain controller in Windows Server 2008 R2 TO 2012 R2?

    Hi all.
I want to know if is it possible to upgrade a domain controller from Windows Server 2008 r2 to 2012 r2 installing from SCCM 2012.
    Thanks.
    Regards.

    Hi all.
I want to know if is it possible to upgrade a domain controller from Windows Server 2008 r2 to 2012 r2 installing from SCCM 2012.
    Thanks.
    Regards.
Anything is possible if you can script it. You could create a task sequence to do the following (with scripts):
    1. Demote 2008R2 DC to member server
    2. Remove 2008R2 member server from domain
    3. Build new 2012R2 member server and join to domain
    4. Promote 2012R2 member server to DC
You can do this. However, why would you? Just because you can doesn't mean you should. In my opinion it's more trouble and testing than it's worth. How many times would you need to do this?

    https://blogs.technet.com/b/configmgrteam/archive/2013/09/12/how-to-migrate-user-data-from-win-xp-to-win-8-1-with-system-center-2012-r2-configmgr.aspx
All things worked fine, but the user files from my test Domain user are not restored.
Here some extracts of the loadstate log.

The user sccm\test.user is my test user but, i cannot see any error in relation to that user.
    Has some some an idea?
    Thank you

  • Can we assign 2 IPs for a SCCM 2012 primary site server and use 1 IP for communicating with its 2 DPs and 2nd one for communicating with its upper hierarchy CAS which is in a different .Domain

    Hi,
Can we assign 2 IPs for a SCCM 2012 primary site server and use 1 Ip for communicating with its 2 DPs and 2nd one for communicating with its upper hierarchy CAS . ?
Scenario: We are building 1 SCCM 2012 primary site and 2 DPs in one domain . In future this will attach to a CAS server which is in different domain. Can we assign  2 IPs in Primary site server , one IP will use to communicate with its 2 DPs and second
IP for communicating with the CAS server which is in a different domain.?
    Details:
    1)Server : Windows 2012 R2 Std , VM environment .2) SCCM : SCCM 2012 R2 .3)SQL: SQL 2012 Std
    Thanks
    Rajesh Vasudevan

First, it's not possible. You cannot attach a primary site to an existing CAS.
Primary sites in 2012 are *not* the same as primary sites in 2007 and a CAS is 2012 is completely different from a central primary site in 2007.
CASes cannot manage clients. Also, primary sites are *not* used for delegation in 2012. As Torsten points out, multiple primary sites are used for scale-out (in terms of client count) only. Placing primary sites for different organizational units provides
no functional differences but does add complexity, latency, and additional failure points.
Thus, as the others have pointed out, your premise for doing this is completely incorrect. What are your actual business goals?
As for the IP Addressing, that depends upon your networking infrastructure. There is no way to configure ConfigMgr to use different interfaces for different types of traffic. You could potentially manipulate the routing tables in Windows but that's asking
    for trouble IMO.

  • SCCM 2012 report w/ selectable collection

I am trying to create a report with a selectable collection parameter.  The original query I'm using is as follows (Stolen from
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/infratalks/archive/2013/09/10/sccm-2012-reporting-get-system-serial-number-amp-create-custom-ssrs-report.aspx):
    Select sys.Name0 Machine, CS.UserName0 'User Name',OS.Caption0 OS, OS.CSDVersion0 'Service Pack',CS.Manufacturer0 Manufacturer,CS.Model0 Model,BIOS.SerialNumber0 'Serial Number',RAM.Capacity0 Memory, cs.SystemType0
    From v_R_System SYS
left join v_GS_COMPUTER_SYSTEM CS on sys.Name0=cs.Name0
left join v_GS_PC_BIOS BIOS on sys.ResourceID=bios.ResourceID
left join v_GS_OPERATING_SYSTEM OS on sys.ResourceID=OS.ResourceID
left join v_GS_PHYSICAL_MEMORY RAM on sys.ResourceID=ram.ResourceID
      --Where sys.Name0 = @variable
      order by sys.Name0
This works fine, but it gives me that information for EVERY machine in our infrastructure globally.  I am only interested in getting this information from machines in certain collections and I want to be able to select the collection each time I run
the report.  I found this article:
http://it.peikkoluola.net/2013/06/02/report-with-a-selectable-collection-parameter-sql/ and followed the steps, but cannot run the report successfully.  I'm guessing it has something to do with needing to modify my query, but I am a newb with SQL and
have no clue what or where I should be tweaking.  Just adding "WHERE(dbo.v_FullCollectionMembership.CollectionID
= @COLLID)" gives me a syntax error.  Moving it above "Order by sys.name0" gives an error about not being bound to anything, which makes sense but as I mentioned, I don't know what to tweak.  Help!  Thanks.

    Select sys.Name0 Machine, CS.UserName0 'User Name',OS.Caption0 OS, OS.CSDVersion0 'Service Pack',CS.Manufacturer0 Manufacturer,CS.Model0 Model,BIOS.SerialNumber0 'Serial Number',RAM.Capacity0 Memory, cs.SystemType0
    From v_R_System SYS
left join v_GS_COMPUTER_SYSTEM CS on sys.Name0=cs.Name0
left join v_GS_PC_BIOS BIOS on sys.ResourceID=bios.ResourceID
left join v_GS_OPERATING_SYSTEM OS on sys.ResourceID=OS.ResourceID
left join v_GS_PHYSICAL_MEMORY RAM on sys.ResourceID=ram.ResourceID
      join v_fullcollectionmembership fcm on fcm.resourceid=sys.resourceid
      Where fcm.collectionid = @COLLID
      order by sys.Name0
Try the above, note that @COLLID is a placeholder for a variable.  It is presumed that you are creating this using Report Builder 3.0 (or better) or some other SQL tool to create reports for use on your SRS reporting point.  If you happen
to be using Report Builder, once you save the above, under parameters you'd have a place for COLLID.  Now, what you want is to be able to have that parameter be populated with your collection names, so that you can select from the list when the report
    is run.
So... another DataSet, with a query like:
    select collectionid, name
    from v_collection
    order by name
Then, back to your parameters, COLLID, available values, Get values from a query, and you'll want to use that dataset you just made, and Value field is collectionid, and Label field is Name.
If you want to test the top query in regular sql, don't use @collID.  figure out the collectionid of a specific collection, and put in where fcm.collectionid='ABC00012'
    Standardize. Simplify. Automate.
