Foreign keys issues

hi guys,
i m using jdeveloper 11 release 2
i have created 3 tables one for employee, second for evaluator, third for screening.
by creating the relationship pk empno(employee) become fk (evaluator) ,then pk evaluatorNo become fk for screening
i would like when using the LOV ON the screening form to display the employeename and save the evaluatorNo on the database.
the issue when i select the LOV ON evaluatorNo,on the edit LOV
I select the list of the data source,on the available object view i select the employeeEO shuttled to the view accessors ( screeningVO)
back on the edit LOV ,I select empNo under list of attributes.
then i have view attribute as evaluatorNo
and list attribute as empNo
then on the UI Hints i select employeename
when running the application it shows the employee names on the list box
but trying to save it says foreign key not found
any help
regards

Some trouble-shooting ideas:
1. Are you using the application model tester or is this on a web page? Try it on the am tester. If that doesn't work, then something is wrong with your model.
2. How are the primary keys being created? Are you creating first a parent record, then a child record? Is the key for the parent being created? Does the child foreign key populate when you create that record? Have you tried saving the parent record first, then creating the child record?
3. What method are you using for primary key creation? DBSequence (database trigger) or create method? There are differences in how they are created and that may affect the behavior of the parent/child relationship, or lack thereof.

  • Can not insert null into foreign key issue

    Hi ,
I am having parent-child relationship table.
In the child table when I am adding a new record , data is getting inserted with foreign key.
After insert if I immediately update the same record. Its giving error that can not insert null into foreign key.
If i click on rollback button I am able to update that record properly.

  • Composite foreign key issue

    Hi,
I am trying to create a composite foriegn key. I have created my primary key as a composite key, made up of three fields.
    Table 1
    PatientID - Made from 3 fields(a,b,c)(primry key)
    Table B
PatiendID- (should be the foreign key which references table1)
However i am finding that when i try to create my constraint i get the following messages
error 02270 - no matching unique or primarty key for this column list.
below is the sample code i am using to create my foreign key)
(ALTER TABLE XD_PatientSedation ADD CONSTRAINT fk_Sedation_PatientID FOREIGN KEY (PatientID)REFERENCES XD_Patient_Demographics(PatientID)
I am really stuck on this and dont quite know what to do.
    Hope you can help.
    Thanks

Just speaking about design, when you want to use a foreign key, it already means that the referenced columns represent something important enough to be a primary key of some other table. I don't understand the business logic of your example (using real table and column names would help), but the solution is probably one of these two :
    a) your foreign key should in fact refer to (a,b,c), the complete primary key of the first table (what was suggested by the others).
    b) your foreign key should stay as 'a' (patientid?), you should have a third table (patients?) whose primary key is 'a', and your "Table 1" should have a foreign key on 'a', referencing the third table. In this case you may find it silly to create a new table with only one column, but I would bet that you will very soon think of interesting attributes which could be added to this table.
In any case, I think that Oracle did a good job by forcing an improvement of your design !

  • MBAM console not accessible after new installation and self service re-direct to give foreign key issue

    Hello Everyone,
i am novice to MBAM and i have gone thru the virtual lab and material and i am in process of implementing it for my Organization. i am having 2 issues :-
    1) After installation, i am confused how to access the console or does there is no Admin console and it is just servername:portnumber\helpdesk only.
    2) If i enter just servername:portnumber\ then it get redirected to selfservice portal which is not an issue. Issue is after accepting agreement and clicking continue i am getting below error :-

I have checked and usersupportservice.svc is leading to the pade giving below page which i believe it is working OK or kindly correct me if i am thinking wrong :-
This is a Windows© Communication Foundation service.
Metadata publishing for this service is currently disabled.
only thing which i deviated from process was because of some condition i have to rename my MBAM server before installation however by before rename SQL and IIS was installed.
i will really appreciate any help in this regard.

If that is the only link or admin console as well then if anyone can confirm what rights difference a user get when he is member of MBAM helpdesk, MBAM Advanced Helpdesk and MBAM Administrator group.
Also if i can get any help with the self service portal redirection then that will be really helpful. i was also checking if this could be because of any kind of certificate issue as server name was renamed after SQL and IIS installation.

  • Foreign-key autocreation in child table giving issue in the application

    Hi,
I am facing an issue with partitioning a table that foreign key relationship is created on the original table with interim table. This gives exception in the application because of its existence. Please suggest me how to get rid of this issue.
Let's say my table T_TABLENAME has to be partitioned. It has a child table T_CHILD_TABLENAME which references (FK_T1) ID column of T_TABLENAME.
While partitioning, COPY_TABLE_DEPENDENTS function copies/creates the key/index/trigger objects for the interim table. [I need copy_constraints => TRUE in COPY_TABLE_DEP call], Fine.
But, after partitioning is done, the foreign key (TMP$$_FK_T1) object exists with the child table which should absolutely not happen as this forms dependency with interim table as well along with parent table.
    Here my script goes:
    i) Creating interim table
    CREATE TABLE T_TABLENAME_PT
    PARTITION BY RANGE (CREATED_DATE)
(PARTITION P_2007 VALUES LESS THAN (TO_DATE('01-JAN-2008','dd-MON-yyyy')),

PARTITION P_2011 VALUES LESS THAN (TO_DATE('01-JAN-2012','dd-MON-yyyy')),
PARTITION P_2012 VALUES LESS THAN (TO_DATE('01-JAN-2013','dd-MON-yyyy')),

Thanks for your information. I am using Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.1.0.2.0 - 64bit.
    1) I am logging the exceptions in a logger table.
    2) If CAN_REDEF_TABLE gives exception, flow goes to the final EXCEPTION block and program terminates. So if no exceptions, the other steps comes into the flow of execution.

  • Foreign Key Relationships to external associations - Is it really this dodgy or is there a better way?

    Hi All,
Let's picture that I have a GW service called Search Helps and within that service I have a PersonalAreas Entity Set which acts as a search help for drop down fields effectively that need to select a Personal Area.  I have 3 properties, with Personal Area Id and Company Code being the keys, and the text for Personal Area being the 3rd and last property. You really need to filter PersonalAreas by Company Code otherwise it's a fairly useless result set.
Now within a different GW service, I have an entity called Position which has a single key of PositionId.  There is also a a property of company code on this Position.
Now rather than asking the UI developer to get the Company code value and filter PersonalAreas with it directly, I thought it would be nicer for the UI developer just to use the navigation from a specific Position to PossiblePersonalAreas.  e.g. Positions('123')/PossiblePersonalAreas returns the entity set of PersonalAreas filtered by the Position's Company Code.
So with that in mind, I add the external model reference pointing at the search helps service; then create an external association via the sneaky External Associations Editor button (that doesn't appear on the Wizard just to confuse you), and set up my Dependent entity to point at the Search Helps PersonalAreas entity.
At this point I really want to tie the Position's Company Code to the PersonalAreas Company Code, but all I can do is set up a referential constraint of PositionId to CompanyCode or have no referential constraint at all (note - in my example I added the referential constraint as there is an issue with navigation keys being provided to external associations from what I can tell - more about this below).
So, without any other option, I go into my GetEntitySet method of PersonalAreas and write something like the following:
      CASE iv_source_name.
        WHEN 'Position'.
          READ TABLE it_filter_select_options ASSIGNING <filter> INDEX 1.
          CHECK sy-subrc = 0.
          READ TABLE <filter>-select_options assigning <select_option> INDEX 1.
          CHECK sy-subrc = 0.
          position_id = <select_option>-low.
    *     Get company code for position
          TRY.
              CREATE OBJECT o_position
                EXPORTING
                  i_position_id = position_id.
              o_position->get_cost_centre_information(
                IMPORTING
                  e_company_code = company_code
            CATCH zcx_hr_object.
          ENDTRY.
      endcase.
    * Continue with retrieving PersonalAreas for given Company Code
    <Remaining code not shown>
e.g. I have to assume CompanyCode is actually "Position Id" when the source of this call is from Position (I could also look at the navigation to find this has come from Position but if you're wondering, unfortunately for external associations, the key is not included in this for some reason but the same followup logic of reloading the object would be required).
So the question I'm hoping the answer to is Yes is: Am I missing something in my understanding here?
    Thanks,
    Matt
Edit since posting and playing around a bit more: Thinking about this further - it's unfortunate, but the navigation property in odata really implies the dependent entity has knowledge of the principal entity and realistically must know how to instantiate it if it needs to get data based on one of the properties.
Now while I'm fine with that (sort of) I think it's wrong that the dependent entity needs to have the required key properties to hold the principal entities as it makes something like a generic search help impossible to do with navigation - Maybe I just need to be done with that and expect filters to be used by UI programmers to find foreign key'ed entities....

    Hi Matt,
I'm not surprised that you have an issue with this. One bugbear I have with Gateway is that for some reason the designers don't think any context beyond the immediate preceding navigation node is important. They don't support this within the same service,so it's hardly likley to work in a service reference.
I may be wrong but I don't think GW is OData compliant in this respect. If I have the navigation path /blindservice/FromHereSet(1)/ToAPoints(22)/ToBPoints, it's rather restrictive to say I cannot see the initial key of '1' in the path when I am trying to resolve 'ToBPoints'. If that value - where I started - is key to the context, I have to know it.
Currently the only way to access this context is to embed the 'key history' in the intermediate entities, i.e. /blindservice/FromHereSet(1)/ToAPoints(1,22)/ToBPoints. In my view that is corrupting the URl to suit the limitations of the SAP OData implementation. What's even more confusing/frustrating is that the technical request context appears to be able to store the stacked navigation keys but doesn't make use of this design.
    I feel your pain
    Ron.

  • Error when sorting foreign key fields in a view

    Hello all
I created a view and links to other views, and then created a table. In the table I put different attributes from the view and the views it is linked to. When I click the sort ascending or descending button in a column attribute that is in the original view, everything works fine. However if I click the same arrow button for a different column, one that is in a linked view, I get this error message.
Definition OnlineTerminalId of type Attribute is not found in ObjektiView1.
I do not understand why this does not work. It shows the values inside these linked views just fine. I did change names of some attributes in the database but I had the problem before then, and after I changed them all back so I doubt that is the issue.
If anyone can help I would be much obliged

    Dino2dy wrote:
Hmm, what I did is slightly different, but what my way does is give me the ability to create forms that change automatically when I click a row in a table, which I thought would be useful. I could do it your way too but I would have to do everything again from the beginning, which is something I am trying to avoid. There should be a way to fix this problem this way, as it would be kind of stupid to be able to show the data in the table but just not be able to sort or filter by it.You can still accomplish this by relating the combined VO with your children VOs using View Links, same as what you are doing now.
Also that view would be HUGE as it is a single table that is connected to a lot of other tables via foreign keys, so my single view would cover 10 tables. Not necessarily. You don't have to include all Entities in your combined VO - just those that you want their attributes displayed on your table.

  • CMR - Can a primary key also be a foreign key?

    Hi,
Has anyone come across the following problem? Although I mention Jdeveloper below I believe it is a general J2EE issue!
    I have two tables
    customer
    customer_id (PK)
    individual
    customer_id (PK)
customer_id in individual is the primary key for that table. It is also a foreign key ( related back to customer).
If I use JDeveloper to drag in the two tables ( into a class diagraqm), I have a problem.
JDeveloper "sees" the Individual bean foreign key mapping and generates a getCustomer() method (which returns a handle to the appropriate customer bean).
However as it "removes" the getCustomer_id() method(which returns the actual customer_id), the primary_key reference is dropped.
When I try and compile, JDeveloper quite rightly complains with "where is the primary key".
Can anyone help? Do I need to make it a rule that the foreign key is not also the primary key?
    thanks in advance,
    Kevin

    Hi Kevin,
I would not pursue this model if I was you. The only thing OC4J supports without killing yourself is to let each table has its own primary key (preferably not composed) and to make all foreign key's optional !
We have spent months trying to make it work and we are getting little or no support from oracle, even though we are paying many euros for a partnering contract.

Also for above issue , we increased the timeout in transaction manager
transaction-timeout and syncMaxWaitTime properties as follows:
Property     File Location     This Value Must Be...     Example
transaction-timeout     SOA_Oracle_Home\j2ee\home\config\transaction-manager.xml     Larger than the transaction-timeout value in orion-ejb-jar.xml and the syncMaxWaitTime value.     7200
    transaction-timeout     SOA_Oracle_Home\j2ee\home\application-deployments\orabpel\ejb_ob_engine\orion-ejb-jar.xml     Less than the transaction-timeout value in transaction-manager.xml.
Note: You must set all transaction-timeout properties that display in this file.     3600
    syncMaxWaitTime     SOA_Oracle_Home\bpel\domains\domain_name\config\domain.xml
where domain_name is the name of the domain to which you are deploying.     Less than the transaction-timeout value in orion-ejb-jar.xml.     240

  • Adding a foreign key based on composite key of other table

    Hi All,
I have two tables one named 'products' (T1) and other 'codes' (T2). The product_code column in T1 needs to reference code_id values where code_type="STREET" from T2. T2 primary key is based on two columns 'code_id' and 'code_type'.
The issue is t1 table has only one of the column from T2. i.e; product_code (T1) corresponds to code_id (T2) and code_type should always have value "STREET"
I am not getting how to implement the foreign key constraint on T1 in such scenario. Hope my explanation is clear. Feel free to ask for more clarifications. Please suggest.
    Thanks

  • I am unable to create the Foreign key

    Hi,
I need to create the Foreign key which reffered to composite primary key.
    the following table structure
    Parent table
    DIVISION, PROJECT_NUMBER, COMPETITION_PROJECT_NUMBER, COMPETITIVE_STMT_TYPE, SEQUENCE, CATEGORY, STATEMENT, USER_ID, RECORD_MODIFICATION_DATE
    Here composite primary key columns(DIVISION, PROJECT_NUMBER, COMPETITION_PROJECT_NUMBER, COMPETITIVE_STMT_TYPE, SEQUENCE)
    Child Table
    DIVISION          VARCHAR2 (4)
    PROJECT_NUMBER          NUMBER (10)COMPETITION_PROJECT_NUMBER     NUMBER (10)
    COMPETITIVE_STMT_TYPE          VARCHAR2 (2)
    SEQUENCE     NUMBER (2)
    CATEGORY          VARCHAR2 (100)
    STATEMENT     LONG
    USER_ID     VARCHAR2 (100)
    RECORD_MODIFICATION_DATE     DATE
ALTER TABLE COMPETITION_STMT ADD (CONSTRAINT COMPET_STMT_FK_PROJ_NUM foreign key
              (PROJECT_NUMBER) REFERENCES PROD_COMPET_XREF (PROJECT_NUMBER));
when i am trying to create foreign key i got this error
ORA-02270: no matching unique or primary key for this column-list
this is production issue Please help me.
    Thanks in advance

    ALTER TABLE PROD_COMPET_XREF ADD (
    CONSTRAINT PROD_COMP_XREF_PK_DPNCPNCT
    PRIMARY KEY
    (COMPETITION_PROJECT_NUMBER, PROJECT_NUMBER, DIVISION, PRODUCT_LOC_INDICATOR)
When you create a foreign key, it must reference a unique or primary key. The primary or Unique key must consist ONLY of those columns upon which the Primary key is based.
You must Alter the table and add a Unique key if you want to keep your compsite primary key constraint. The Unique key must be for only the column that your foreign key references. Then try to recreate your foreign key.
I doubt you will be able to add a foreign key because I suspect you might have multiple rows with the same value for this column based on your composite key; however, if you only intend for the project number to be listed only once and to be unique for each row, then the unique key may work or you may want to revist your primary key on this table. Perhaps you don't need it to be a composite PK???
If you can't work around that, one thing you can do is build a table based just on PROJECT_NUMBER that contains details about the project number and have other tables reference that. That is, if you have multiple rows with the same project number in that table. You may already have one? Perhaps you can build your foreign key to reference that?

  • Basic doubt about Primary Key/Foreign Key in Oracle Tables

    Hi,
I have a doubt whether Primary Keys/Foreign Keys are allowed in Oracle. Some of the people I know are telling me that Oracle does not encourage having Primary Keys/Foreign keys in its database tables.
However if I go to the ETRM and look for information about some of the Oracle Tables, I am informed that Primary Keys do exist. However I am being told that ETRM is not a reliable way of having correct information about table structure.
It would be great if any one of you provides me with some insight in this. Any pointers to a document would be great.
    Thanks

It is not that PK/FKs are disallowed in Oracle Apps (there are some on the standard Oracle Apps tables), but they are typically not used. I am not positive what the logic behind this is, but my guess is that it was party due to the earlier versions of Oracle Apps pre-dating declarative database referential integrity in Oracle DB and also on performance issues with the standard referential integrity with the earlier versions of declarative database referential integrity.
As far as eTRM is concerned - I understood that the data is based on a design repository rather than a physical Oracle Apps DB. So all of the information in there is logically correct, but not necessarily enforced via the standard Oracle DB declarative referential integrity (rather by the application code or APIs).

  • Foreign Keys for a Logical Table

    Hi All,
I want to know in which scenarios we create the Foreign Keys for a Logical Table. Once we create the foreign key for the logical table, does it mean that it will automatically override if any joins are there.
Physical Table A, B ( no physical joins)
    Logical Table A, B (logical join B(Dim)-->A(Fact))
created the foreign key in logical table A with B .(A.1=B.1)
Will the rpd generate sql with A.1=B.1 join condition for reports.
I tried to create the logical foreign key for logical table A, I could not see any corresponding table option. Here is its snapshot
    http://tinypic.com/r/jq1gkz/6
    Thanks,
    Virat

In general when we go complex joins in Physical layer we go for Logical foreign key joins in BMM layer, best examples is SCD Type-II.
Physical Table A, B ( no physical joins)
-->You need to have a physical join so that this can be override by BMM layer
created the foreign key in logical table A with B .(A.1=B.1) Will the rpd generate sql with A.1=B.1 join condition for reports.
-->Yes you can see this join in BI Physical query.
I tried to create the logical foreign key for logical table A, I could not see any corresponding table option. Here is its snapshot
-->2 cases: 1)You need to delete existing logical joins 2) You might not have join in physical layer.
    Hope this helps

  • EServer Model Diagram and Cross Reference schema -Foreign key

    Hi,
I am doing reverser engineering to generate ER diagram from Designer. Version of designer I am using is 10.2.0.2.
While trying to generate SMD (Server model Diagram) from existing database schema, it is failing on generating foreign keys reference to other schema and its table.
Can anybody help me to solve the this problem ?

  • Code generation - foreign key relationships

I'm using the code/descriptor generation tab to generate classes from existing tables. It offers an option of choosing which relationships to generate, but seems to miss out some of the defined foreign key relationships in the database.
I have three tables, CLIENTS, TXNS and REG
The following constraints are defined in my database:
    TXN Primary Key: (TXN_ID)
    CLIENTS Primary Key :CLIENT_ID, TXN_ID)
CLIENTS Foriegn KEy : TXN_ID references TXNS
    REG Primary Key: CLIENT_ID, TXN_ID
REG Foreign Key: CLIENT_ID, TXN_ID references CLIENTS
I select these three tables and choose generate classes and descriptors for selected tables. When the "Choose Relationships to generate" screen comes up, it only shows me the CLIENTS<-->TXNS relationship, but not the REG<-->CLIENTS relationship, even though the database foreign key constraints all look as though they've been defined in similar ways.
    thanks for any help.

    Hi Matt,
I'm not surprised that you have an issue with this.
    Ron.
