Forgotten password for Pages document

I have forgotten my password for a Pages document.  Is there any way I can open the document?  Even with the hint I cannot get it right.

Do you perhaps have a backup copy of the document from prior to when you set the password? Have you checied your Keychain.app records to see if there might be an entry for this document?

Under the Spanner in Pages there is Set Password where you create a password with hint. You really have to deliberately dig this out to do it.
Do you get a hint when you are asked for the password?
The Password is very secure, if you can't remember what it is, you will have to recreate the document.

  • Locking/password securing pages documents

Is there a way to lock or password secure pages documents? I am starting to journal in pages and I'd like to keep the files private. I know there's a way to restrict privileges for other user accounts but I'd like to be able to password secure the file on my account as well. Is there a way pages would allow me to do that?

passing a record id in the url is not a problem as long as
    you use
<cfqueryparam> in your queries to prevent sql injection
    attacks. passing
sensitive info in url (usernames, passwords) is not a good
    idea at all.
you may also want to set the scriptprotect attribute of
    <cfapplication>
tag in your Application.cfm to appropriate value ("all" is
    good).
on your hosting server they should have robust error
    reporting turned
off - if they don't consider finding another host...

how can I retrieve or reset an old forgotten password for a old discontinued email address.
I have lots of bought music that my new laptop can't play because it's not authorized

If you can't get it reset via http://iforgot.apple.com (do you remember the answers to your security questions or have a rescue email address on the account ?) then you will have to contact Support in your country to get the password reset (they can also reset security questions).
Contacting Apple about account security : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5699
If your country isn't on that page then try this form and explain and see what they reply with
    : https://ssl.apple.com/emea/support/itunes/contact.html
Then update the primary email address to be an email account that you have access to : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5621

  • Can i use iCloud for pages documents iMac?

can i use iCloud for pages documents iMac?

    Hi lmdavis72,
    It looks like you can.
From "iCloud: Documents in the Cloud overview"
You can download a document from icloud.com/iwork to your Mac or Windows computer, edit it, and then drag the revised version to icloud.com/iwork. It’s then automatically updated on all of your iOS devices. You can also drag an iWork ’09 (Keynote, Pages, and Numbers) or Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Word, and Excel) document created on your computer to icloud.com/iwork.
So it looks like it can go between iOS devices and your iMac.

  • Password for a Document folder

I have not needed a pasword in the past and I remember years ago in was not possible for a P/W for a document folder.
Has there been any changes that now allow for passwords for a document ?
If not, any free apps out there for it ?
    thanks,
    Greg

Yes, you can create an encrypted folder and save files into it. Only someone with the password will be able to open the folder or its contents.

  • Forgotten password for time capsule

Forgotten password for my time capsule

    Which one,, there are several..
If you still can get into the TC.. ie you have not lost the basic admin password.. the airport utility will give you full clear passwords for everything else.. exciting eh real security.
If you managed to even lose the admin password.. then I strongly suggest.
    1. Don't bother changing it from public.. then you cannot forget it.
    2. Soft reset the TC.. and magically.. all passwords are null and void for 5 min to give you time to change them all.. exciting eh.. such great security.
Soft reset.. you press the reset button for 1sec. That means 1-4sec.. or less than a hard reset.

  • In Pages 5.0.1 option to set password for editing document is gone when exporting as a pdf

In last version of Pages, I would make a proposal to a customer and then go to 'share' and then choose 'PDF' from the drop down. Next screen allowed me to choose the option of password protecting the document from being edited. This new version of Pages only seems to allow setting a password for opening the document. I do not need to password protect the document from being opened, just edited. Any help for this new problem? Apple always seems to remove features that are so helpful and useful when they 'upgrade' apps., very frustrating!

Apple has removed over 90 features from Pages 5 and added many bugs.

Pages '09 should still be in your Applications/iWork folder.
Archive/trash Pages 5, after Exporting your files to Pages '09, and rate/review it in the App Store, then get back to work.

  • Is it possible to open a password protected pages document made on my mac on my iPad?

I can't find the answer anywhere in the Pages documents or googling, so I thought I'd ask here. I own Pages on my ipad, but not my imac. The ipad version won't create a password protected file, but the mac version will. Could someone who has Pages on both their mac and ipad do a quick test for me to answer this. It should be as easy as:
    1) create and save a password protected document on the mac Pages
    2) sync it through icloud to the ipad.
    3) try to open it on the ipad Pages.
    4) report back
If the answer is yes, I'll probably buy Pages for the mac, but if not, probably won't.
    Thanks in advance,
    Paul

  • Password for Pages Doc

How do you suggest a person remember one of the stronger passwords created by password assistant?  It's kind of a catch 22 situation.   While the stronger passwords are cool, nobody could remember one of the strongest ones.   Unlike, 1Password, which allows you to click and have the difficult password be accessed and engaged, I see no way to do the same with Pages.

Hi, I am new to Apple Support Community so I hope I am not being rude by jumping in here but I am a wee bit of a password freak and thought I'd share some of my thoughts.
You asked how to remember a difficult password.  I find it easiest to use a phrase and codify it.  By that, I mean that come up with a meaningful phrase for you - something like "I love my big dog, Jack" and then put it into a code.  I've made up my own code using symbols and numbers to replace letters (not all the letters of the alphabet but some of them) and I use the first letter of each word in my phrase for the password.  So, for example, your phrase about your dog Jack might look something like this: 1L^^bdJ4cK.  (In this example I have actually spelled out the whole word Jack - at least in my mind it is spelled out.)  I would advise a longer phrase so you can get a few more letters/symbols/numbers in there as the longer the password the more difficult it is to break.  I also will vary capitals and small letters (1 big, 1 little) if I use letters in a row.  You don't have to do this, I'm just saying come up with a pattern you like and use it all the time.  I have about a half dozen passwords I have created this way and they are very strong (according to password testers) and relatively easy to remember.  Also, if you need to constantly replace a password as with some very secure websites, just change one character, such as the first or last letter and switch back and forth each time you have to put in a new password.
Now, if you are REALLY security conscious as I am - say you have very sensitive documents that could get you fired or imprisoned if they were hacked - or if you like to keep a journal, then I suggest encryption.  I use a sparse disc image to do this and I really love it.  You can keep many documents/folders in the sparse disk image and just use one password to open them all and you can leave it open all day if you are working on them and then when you want to close out, just unmount the sparse image (click it in Finder) and everything is encrypted.  If your computer is stolen you will be pretty sure that most hackers will not be able to access anything.  After much fussing over passwords to protect documents, I have found this to be the easiest simply because you can use just one password for all the documents and folders you want to protect.
You can also run File Vault but I think that in most circumstances, this is overkill and probably not what you want.

  • Why when I open my password protected Pages document it doesn't require me to enter the password that I have set to see the document?

When I open my Pages app and try to open my previously password protected document it doesn't require me to enter the password to see the document. It just takes me straight to the document like any other document that isn't password protected. Isn't this the point of having a document password protected so no one can see it without knowing the password? Am I missing something when I set the password in the first place? Thanks.

When you set a password in Pages v5(.2), you are offered a check box to remember the saved password in your keychain. If you do not enable this check box, you will always be prompted locally for the document password. If checked, before opening the document, Pages queries keychain if it knows anything about the current local document security, and once confirmed, it simply opens the document without a challenge.
To disable the keychain knowledge for the local document, you open the document, and choose File > Change Password… . Enter the current (old) password only, then select the Remove Password button. Now, you can use File > Set Password… again to set the password, and omit the Remember this password in my keychain option. The desired document password prompt will occur on your local (and remote) access.

  • How do I retrieve a forgotten password for my encrypted backup?

Ive set a password for my backups on iTunes 10.2.2. and I have forgotten it! There is no "Forgot your password" button anywhere!! How do I get past this crap???!!!

I'm sorry you forgot your password, and have to recreate a backup of your phone.
But encrypted files, and passwords are your responsibility to save.
    Hammeredd wrote:
What idiot came up with a password system which has no failsafe?
There are plenty of systems that do not have failsafe for lost passwords.
My Visa and bank cards do not have a "failsafe" pin number.
Encrypted folders, disk images e.t.c do not have failsafe passwords.
What the encrypted back up does is encrypt your data using a key (the "password") that you supply.
In order to have a "fail safe" as you put it, the key would have to be saved somewhere else.
This then it would have to be stored on your computer.
But would you need it also protected? Yes, otherwise it is a useless password.
They could put it in your keychain, which has a password to protect it.
But what if you forget keychain password?
Where should Apple put a failsafe copy of your keychain password?
How about in another encrypted file, with a password.... what if you forget that password?
    This could go on forever.
...every other system we use has a facility to either email your password to you or have you answer a number of security questions to change it.
Are you suggesting that Apple store all encrypted file passwords on their servers?
I am sure then there would be an uproar over Apple being "Big Brother".
no security system is worth losing all your information, this must be a mistake.
No mistake. This is normal practice.
There is also an option to delete your iPhone if the wrong passcode is put in 10 times.
    I have that.
If someone tries to get into my phone I would rather have all the data deleted.
But then I back up data, and save passwords.
THERE MUST BE A WAY OF RECOVERING THIS BACKUP INFORMATION!!!!
There is not. The data is encrypted.
That's the point, no one can get it; unless they apply and very complicated decryption system and spend a lot of time on it (like the CIA)
otherwise my intention to buy my partner an iphone has just bit the dust. And this one will be going as well.
So because you made a mistake in not reading, and not saving your password?
There is a clear warning when you choose to encrypt your backup.
This really is a case of you not taking responsibility for your own mistake.
    You made a mistake.
Now step up and accept it; and don't make it again.
What you can do in future is create a "note" in your keychain and save your passwords there if you are prone to losing passwords.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions
Password protection of iWork documents is not available in iWork '08. The feature was added with iWork '09.
However, you can use an encrypted disk image to secure your documents.
