Formatting URLs

Hi,
I'm wondering how to format a long url. I want it to be allowed to break
at the end of the line anywhere within the URL, without adding a hyphen. So:
http://www.microsof
t.com
would be fine.
I've tried creating a character style with the language set to [No
Language] but that doesn't seem to do the trick. If I disable
hyphenation in the paragraph containing the URL, things are better, but
the cost is rather high. I'd rather not disable hyphenation.
I'd also prefer not to have to add discretionary breaks of one sort or
another if avoidable.
Finally, for my scripting brethren, I found this intriguing property:
Text.allowArbitraryHyphenation
Data Type: Boolean
Adobe InDesign CS6 (8.0) Object Model
If true, words unassociated with a hyphenation dictionary can break to
the next line on any character.
But applying it to some selected text by running this line of script
app.selection[0].allowArbitraryHyphenation = true;
doesn't seem to achieve anything at all.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Ariel

Thanks. Yes, tracking could help in some cases. But it's not a direct
answer to the question -- how to allow InDesign to break before any
character.

  • Formatting URLS as clickable links in an outgoing message

    Surely there is a way, either manual or automatic, to enter a web URL and have it auto-format as blue, underlined and an active hyperlink.
    What am I missing

    just paste the url as text. it will be correctly interpreted as a clickable link by the email client of the recipient. try it out by sending something to yourself.

  • Format URL for Spry XML Data Set

    I've searched and searched the forums to no avail, but please
    link me to the solution if already posted.
    I want to create a Spry data set where one of the fields is
    simply an URL such as:
    <name><a href="
    http://www.aim-us.org/">African
    Inland Mission</a></name>
    I want the name to appear in the list as a hyperlink. I'd
    sincerely appreciate anyone straightening me out on the correct XML
    format to accomplish this. Thanks!

    The idea for Design Time XML is that you can use a static XML
    file instead of a dynamic source, in case you don't have access to
    the real data. You can use the Design Time XML to make the query
    and design the page.
    This gives you access to the data references for designing
    the page.
    If you are getting schema errors, the numbers that the dialog
    shows is the line number and character number (1,1)
    You should be able to see the XML directly in the browser. If
    you can, then DW should be able to consume it.

  • Formating URL for Discoverer plus returns an error

    Hello I have been playing around with formatting the URL. In Viewer this is working great with have created one click extracts to excel. However when I try to just create a link to discoverer plus to startup the connections page also pops up. We would like just the discoverer plus app to popup not the connections page. This is with 9.0.4 version. I have tried adding the following
    plus_popup=Fales&framedisplaystyle=embedded
    option on the end but when I do although the connections page no longer shows up I get an error on startup. The error states there is a runtime error has occured. Line 0 Error:'Window.opener.connListPage' is null or not an object' The msgbox asked if I want to debug or not. If I choose no then plus opens fine. My string looks like below. Does anyone know what I am missing?
    http://domainname:7778/discoverer/plus?cn=cf_a110&nlsl=en-us&release=true&_plus=true&plusp_FrameDisplayStyle=embedded

    I doesn't happen on mine, but I'm now on SP3. It might help if you upgrade - even if you don't want to go to SP3 yet, your OWA version appears not to be at rollup 2 level. I only mention this because if it is a problem specific to version 14.2.247.5 (which
    could easily be the case, because MS change the OWA scripts with surprising frequency) , it's going to be hard finding people who can reproduce the problem.
    But to answer the question in the last sentence, searching the GAL and searching Contacts is, in a technical sense, very different. The GAL search is done with an LDAP query against Active Directory, whereas Contacts are usually going to be mailbox items,
    plus a few AD contact items.

  • Read_image_file issue resizing when format= url

    Hi,
    I'm migrating from 6i
    I have some images to display, let's say logos and such, which in c/s I loaded with read_image_file into an image_item.
    Now, in the 11g version, I've put all that logos in a jar, as the read_image_file is now relative to the weblogic server, not the forms client.
    So, I'm changing this code:
    Read_Image_File ('H:\mypath\logos\mylogo.tif', 'TIFF', 'block.image_item1');
    by this:
    synchronize;     -- now this is neccesary
    Read_image_file (file_name => 'aenor.gif', file_type => 'url', item_name => 'BLOQUE.LOGO1');
    after converting my logo to gif and putting it inside a jar (which I load properly in formsweb.cfg).
    The problem:
    I see the image, but,
    If I set sizing style property to adjust, the image appears very tiny inside the image_item .
    If I set that property to crop, the image crops as expected (the gif is bigger than the item).
    Any hint or workaround (other than resizing the gif)?

    The URL option does not support scaling.
    Consider what Francois suggested in this other post:  Display an static image

  • Gives error The requested URL "/", is invalid but I gave a valid format

    I gave firefox 3.6.6 what I think is a properly formatted URL, namely http://www.3dfx.com. Firefox changes this to http://www.3dfx.com/ I think the added / indicates it got a response from the URL I gave but then it says The requested URL "/", is invalid.
    Reference #9.eb4a595.1295368725.9366789
    so it seems like it did not understand the format. By comparison, I enter http://www.purdue.edu and it is changed to http://www.purdue.edu/ and the page is displayed.

    Here's a (maybe THE) solution, assuming you have the HTTPS Everywhere add-on installed. If not, then this will probably be of no help at all (sorry).
    I was having this exact issue, only when attempting to reach the Washington Post website, which had always worked for me without problems before. I received this error message:
    The requested URL "/", is invalid.
    To make matters even more confusing, I could reach the desired web site (using the same URL--http://www.washingtonpost.com) on the same PC using Internet Explorer, and on another PC using Firefox.
    After an annoying search, Googling this error message, and trying a variety of suggested remedies, I was finally able to resolve the problem by changing the settings for the Firefox add-on HTTPS Everywhere.
    In Firefox, click on the Tools menu, then select Add-ons, then click on HTTPS Everywhere and click on the Options button. The HTTPS Everywhere Preferences screen will appear asking, "Which HTTPS redirection rules should apply?"
    Uncheck the website you're having the problem with and click OK. That should solve the problem. At least, for me it ended the problem immediately, without restarting Firefox, my PC, my router, or any of the other "remedies" I had tried during my earlier troubleshooting efforts.

  • Acrobat 8.0 crashing when copying url into link.

    I'm attempting to create web links on a pdf. I've done this before, but
    today Acrobat is "quitting unexpectedly."
    - I choose the link tool.
    - I draw the rectangle around the text line to be the link area.
    - I choose "Open a Web Page"
    - I click "Next"
    - I attempt to paste the url from another document into the box
    - I receive "Acrobat quit unexpectedly" error message.
    This happens regardless of whether I'm pasting the following:
    - formatted url text from Word
    - unformatted url text from Word
    - unformatted url text from Notepad
    - unformatted url text from InDesign.
    Help?

    The problem is likely that the web page does not conform to standard HTML. AA8 crashed on me also. You can print the file from your browser. The only thing that would be missing would be the 3 links near the bottom and they are easy to add.

  • Dynamically building a Database URL

    Hi all,
    I'd like to create a database URL at runtime without knowing which database driver I'll have. I'd love some advice on how I should "discover" the sub-protocol for a selected driver, and the exact format for the url string. Wouldn't it be great if the programmer could supply connection properties like server, port, database, schema, and get a properly formatted url? Does this capability exist anywhere?
    Thanks,
    Mac

    Wouldn't it be great if the programmer could
    supply connection properties like server, port,
    database, schema, and get a properly formatted url?Yes, but it isn't going to happen.
    The information that appears after the driver name can take any form. And some databases don't even have 'server' much less 'port'. And many databases don't have 'schema' although many have something called 'database' it can take different forms. And there are many other parameter types that can appear in the connection string and those are much more exotic.

  • Is it possible to give link of document library in sharepoint list in 2010

    Hi All,
    Using share point list data we have shown in reports. For this we create 1 view and shown as reports. we have 1 document library with title field, same field is in list also.when we click on link on list - it redirects to library folder.
    Is their anyway to do that where as list is custom list.
    Any help is appreciated..!

    Hi Bangara,
    According to your description, my understanding is that you want to create a link in your list, then this link is linked to a library folder. Is it right?
    You can create a Hyperlink field in your list as opening your list->clicking on ‘Create Column’ under List ribbon, then type a name for the column, select the type of the column is Hyperlink or Picture, and Format URL is :Hyperlink.
    After that, when you create a new item or edit an item in the list, you can type the URL of the related library folder in this link field.
    I hope this helps.

  • FTP List search for file in XI JavaMapping

    I wonder if anyone has ever done a JavaMap in XI with a FTP List search for e.g. filename*.xml
    With the standard FTP URLstring there is no ‘*’ possible within the filename.

    This JavaMap works fine for picking up a file with the exact filename:

                      // read file into String
                      b = 0;
                      StringBuffer file = new StringBuffer();

    well, i think the best solution would be make a recursive search through the directory tree. I don't know if you are familiar to this, but the functions that searches for the file would look like this:
    public String searchFile(String name) {
      File[] roots = File.listRoots();   // List all file roots (in windows the different units, c:, d:, etc.)
      for (int i = 0 ; i < roots.length() ; i++) {
        String aux = recursiveSearch(roots, name);
    if (aux != null) {   // If the "recursiveSearch" returns something different than null is that the file is founded, so we return the path.
    return aux;
    return null; // If we get there nothing has been found
    private String recursiveSearch(File f, String name) {   // f is the directory to search for the file with name "name"
    File[] childs = f.listFiles();
    for (int i = 0 ;i < childs.length ; i++) {
    if (childs[i].isDirectory()) {  // If that is a directory we search inside
    String aux = recursiveSearch(childs[i], name);
    if (aux != null) {   // We have found it inside this directory
    return aux;
    } else {  // Is a regular file
    if (name.compareTo(childs[i].getName()) == 0) {   // If the file is what we want we return his path
    return childs[i].getCanonicalPath();
    // If we get here is because the file is not inside the directory or any subdirectory on it
    return null;
    You should just call the function searchFile(name) with the name of the file you want to search. If it finds one with this name it will return his absolute path, and if he doesn't the desired file he will return null.
    If you don't understand anything just ask.
    (Note: i have not tested this code, so can be some mistakes, but it think it is almost correct. mmmhh don't now why, but [ & ] appear in my code as < & >. Just replace them.).
    Hope that helps.

  • On a form w Validation, how to redirect to a custom page

    Hi. I have created a form in Dreamweaver CS5 that uses spry validation successfully. Once the form is submitted, the user is redirected to the home page. But I don't want that redirect.
    My question is, how can I have the validated page redirect to a custom thank you page I designed? I don't know the exact code/syntax to write to make it do what I want and, even if I had the code, I wouldn't know exactly where it should be placed. Please help if you can. Here's the source code. )BTW, when I use Dreamweaver Behaviors to add a URL redirect, it ignores the required validation and simply allows you to click the submit button and redirect.) Many thanks!

    Thanks for replying. The  URL you've bolded is actually the correct page I'd like the redirect to go to when the form is successfully submitted after validation. But for some reason, that URL request is being ignored and the redirect brings me back to the index page in the root directory. I don't see anywhere in the code that makes the request to do that. Unless that's a default behavior if I've gotten the redirect wrong?
    I don't know if this is helpful, but there is also a .js file that Dreamweaver created and attached to the above HTML source file. The .js file appears to have all the spry code validation including code for features and widgets I'm not even using. I searched through the code several times trying to identify where there might be a redirect to the index page but didn't recognize anything that made sense to me. Here is the complete, unedited file:

    individual field, but there must be at least one numeral in every
    field (except for the case described in 2.2.2.).

  • EncodeURL - uses semi-colon or question mark in path?

    I am confused about the encodeURL method and how it formats urls when adding the session ID. It was my understanding that the sessionID is added as a path parameter, which means it becomes part of the query string following a "?" in the url, like so:
    www.mydomain.com/servlet/CheckOut?jsessionid=567
    However, the book I'm using (Java 2 Web Developer Certification Study Guide by Sybex), says that a semi-colon is used instead, like so:
    www.mydomain.com/servlet/CheckOut;jsessionid=567
    Which one is it? Or is this entirely server-dependent? Either way the next processing servlet needs to be able to access that ID using getPathInfo().

    encudeURL exactly does what you says
    www.mydomain.com/servlet/CheckOut;jsessionid=567
    I am also using the same book you use, it seems that you are preparing for the exam?

  • Display thumbnail preview for images in a Document Set

    I have a Document Set with Images in it.  I would like to show a thumbnail preview of the images in the view of the files in the document library.  I added the Thumbnail Preview column but it just shows a large File Icon.

    Hi,
    According to your description, my understanding is that you want to display the picture of the images in the document set.
    I recommend to create a hyperlink type column and format URL as picture to show the images in documents set.
    Thanks,
    Victoria
